I couldn't sleep last night so of course I decided to do some research on some local bakeries in…read moreour area. I am always down for something sweet! I have driven by this shop a million times but never got the chance to make it in. After checking out all their photos and goodies off their website, making my way in today was a must. The shop is very small and intimate. You are immediately greeted by all the goodies as soon as you walk in. Colorful macarons, the cutest cheesecakes and beautifully displayed scones and muffins. The display case is nice and bright, allowing you to be able to see the details and coloring of each macaron. The pretty piping on the cheesecake. The fun layers of the cakes. It was hard not to want one of each thing out of the case. It was our first visit for my daughter and I. As a new customer, you're trying to absorb everything about this store. You want to look at all your options! The gal that initially was going to help us pretty much just stood there and stared at us. Didn't really talk to us. Didn't ask if we had any questions. She had the most unpleasant look on her face. It honestly made me feel so unwanted and uncomfortable to be at the shop. I offered to let another customer go ahead of us so she wasn't just standing there waiting for us to order something. The second customer also needed some time. Finally a gentleman came in and she got him some coffee started. Another gal was working and she helped us. At that point, I was so turned off about getting anything but we were already there so we decided to grab a few things. My daughter and I decided to share a 6 pack of macarons. We snagged lemon, birthday cake, coffee, chocolate, creme brulee and cookies and cream as our flavor choices. She also got a red velvet cheesecake for us to share after dinner tonight. On our ride home, we broke that box of macarons open and had to try them all. The lemon was sweet and tangy, I love the lemon custard in the middle. Birthday cake reminds me of a pink frosted animal cookie. The chocolate was my favorite! Very chocolate forward and sweet. Coffee reminded me of a vanilla latte in cookie form. Cookies and cream was much like cookies and cream ice cream. More cream forward and less chocolate cookie. Creme brulee had sugar toasted on top which created a slight bitterness to the cookie but it was balanced with how sweet the cookie was. All 6 macarons were fabulous! I look forward to having the red velvet cheesecake after dinner tonight. I like that there are so many gluten free options at this bakery. I adore how petite and prettily decorated the pastries were. I appreciate that this joint is local as I love supporting local businesses. But, first impressions are so huge for me and my first impression of their customer service wasn't there for me. You can push out great products all you want but how you make someone feel during their purchase can make or break your business. As fantastic as my macarons were, all I can think about was how uncomfortable I was when I was just being stared at. Macarons and cheesecake can be purchased at a few joints in our valley. I'm happy I got to enjoy some goodies with my daughter but I'm going to go support another local business that will actually make me feel like a valued customer and not a bother.

The Dolce Co. is a Boise-based macaron company "dedicated to making and sharing sweetness from…read morescratch." They are available via local pop-ups. They can also be ordered and shipped throughout the US. During the pandemic, Molly Renaldo found herself buying a daily macaron from her local coffee shop. She decided to use her extra time at home to learn how to make them herself. Her first pop up was in January 2021. I discovered this business at Payette Brewing Co.'s Holiday Market on 12/2/21. There were six flavors available: Hot Chocolate, Snickerdoodle,Candy Cane, Maple Bacon, Strawberry Chocolate, and Lucky Charm. For $12, I bought one of each. These macarons are sweeter than any I've had before. Personally, I prefer a macaron that is a little less sweet and more strongly flavored. But the interesting flavors will appeal to others. The macarons are nicely packaged. The two pack is the perfect size for a stocking stuffer. My favorite flavors were Hot Chocolate and Snickerdoodle. My second favorite flavors were. Candy Cane and Maple Bacon, though I couldn't taste the bacon. My least favorite flavors were Strawberry Chocolate and Lucky Charm. Both were overly sweet, to the point that I struggled to pick up any other flavors. When I closed my eyes and took a bite of each, they were barely distinguishable from one of them. Lucky Charms was my favorite cereal as a child, but it doesn't works as a macaron. To keep track of The Dolce Co.'s pop-up schedule, like and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.

They always have such a big variety of goodies. Walking in, it's hard not to get overwhelmed by all the goodies, colors and displays. We went straight to the display counter to look at the truffles and to see if they had the Dubai bar. We were the only ones in the store. It was quite weird not to see a sales associate for a good amount of time. We located the bar, she decided against the bar since she can get one local for the same price and almost double in size. We walked around the store and looked at all the fun stuff. I love how everything is so organized and clean. When you have multiple customers through out the day going in and out of a bin, it's nice to see that it's clean. I personally don't like candy in bulk cause of potential germ contamination. But honestly, I have boughten candy from this joint and I have never had any issues since they keep it so clean. If your looking for a small sweet treat, Lolli and Pops would be a great store to grab your goodies at. Our even a fun gift for someone that likes sweets. They have a little of everything which is nice! Customer service wasn't the best when we were there. But we didn't stress about it. Maybe next time customer service will be better.

There are lots of vegan choices thanks to the potato flour used for the donuts. We got the Hipsterberry. It was huge and perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. We got the Southwest Breakfast Burrito and it was delicious. I love the chill vibe here and the relaxing music in the background not being blasted so that you can have a conversation. I love the artwork on the walks and the friendly staff. I even recommended them to my friends and they showed up an hour later. Definitely a must do donut stop if you love donuts like I do.

This is what I use as a comparison to other doughnuts. It's my baseline. This one was good, but not at the top. The outer crust was good, and the icing was the perfect amount of sweetness. The interior was just right. We also grabbed a cup of doughnut holes, which is where we struggled. They were overly sweet and fairly dry on the inside. We ended up throwing the rest out, unfortunately. My other baseline is an Apple Fritter, so if I give them a second chance, that will be my next choice!

Headed to gym event, but needed doughnuts haha! Did they have them? Nnnnnnope! Made me very sad. This place sells their cookies in WinCo and I think Whole Foods. Their cookies are RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING! I could easily eat a bag of 8 in probably half a day lol. Then I'd get all depressed because my bikini wouldn't fit right :( So when I asked about the doughnuts she said they haven't been making them and I think she said it was because of staffing issues. Thanks to the virus and people now refusing to work because the government is giving them too much in unemployment, this is the case with way too many restaurants, bakeries, etc. That's my subtle jab at the current government and what they're doing to the country lol! So I left without doughnuts BUUUUT I did buy a bag of cookies. The same bag I could have bought at WinCo or Whole Foods. She said basically everything they did that morning was make the cookies for the stores and she watched them leave to take them to the stores. Exciting! I felt all guilty as soon as I bit into one of the cookies but OMFG THEY ARE SO GOOD! Have y'all ever been to a crumbl? If you have one where you live GOOOOO! This places cookies are basically they lower calorie version of Crumbl because some Crumbl cookies have 850 calories in ONE cookie hahahaha! Is it worth it tho? Absolutely lol So are these cookies, but if you are trying to watch your calorie intake then maybe stay away because you can tear through a bag of these with ease. Chocolate crinkle and snickerdoodles are my go-to's! Ooooooh! Ok, y'all, WTF is with the twist ties you used to tie up the bags of cookies? STOP using those! They are literally THE WORST! I'm sure they're cost effective but stop! I'm also sure with selling to those two major grocery stores plus selling them in your bakery that you can absolutely afford to use better ties, ones that we can actually open and reuse vs these where you can't just open them, you have to cut the top of the bag and then basically...the bag is useless after that. I know this sounds petty, but ugh they're they worst! Aside from that, this place is super nice. It's in a very weird location tho, I was surprised by that. It's like the only sit down place on this street. Across from them is a warehouse of some sort, half a block up are homes, it's just seems like it would be better on the north end, or NW Boise, basically anywhere other than where it is lol. The staff is super sweet, the ones that were there lol. I'll definitely be going back. Glad my first experience there was a decent one even if they didn't have doughnuts for my heffa ass hahahaha! Thanks for reading, Yelpiiteees! Cheers!
