We catered STIX for the office and everyone LOVED it. I'm vegan so obviously I didn't try a majority of the food but everyone's feedback was positive. In a word: delicious!!! STIX is one of the few Thai/Lao restaurants in the Bay Area. A lot of the menu items are Thai, but there are several dishes you can't get in regular Thai restaurants, and I highly recommend trying them. A few examples... Crispy Coconut Rice Salad This dish is amazing. There's little pieces of deep fried crispy rice with fermented pork, mint, scallion, red onion, and lime dressing. So good!!! Don't miss out. Fermented Sausage (Naem) You have to try it to understand. The flavor of the fermented pork isn't really like anything else. So tasty. Maybe not quite as unique, but the Garlic Fried Rice is amazing. All the noodles were stuck together in clumps and very soggy, there were 8 or 9 peppers, and a million onions. I can usually make it through some bad food but not this time. The wait time, was average as I waited for my take out. I ordered the red snapper cakes, not so good, a but runners not like a crab cake. If you're a college kid or eat at McDonald's from time to time, this place is probably pretty legit food for you. We ate in and oh-my-lanta was the service slow. The flavors were not great and the textures were like mush. The veggies were not plentiful and you can tell they rely heavily on whatever protein and starch components of the dish are. Plus one star for the generous service size for the price... however I'm not inclined to eat the leftovers so not sure that extra star is warranted. read more

This review is based solely on the service. We never received any service after being seated. We arrived on a Friday night at 8:30. We were hesitant to enter as the prices were steep considering the menu options but we enjoy Lao/Thai food and wanted to try it. We were seated nicely enough, hence the one star. We were seated to the far left of the kitchen where another couple was finishing up with their meal. After 15 minutes of reviewing the menu, we were not approached once with a drink offer or any order offer. The other couple was not approached during our time there either. We wanted to try something new so we went here. The service was really slow, and they were down a cook so they were extremely busy. Our servers were nice, but we literally had 3 people come and take care of us. They are a bit unorganized. I was also really unhappy with one of my food options. I had ordered the shrimp balls, and they were a super odd texture, almost soggy, and i cut it in half and it looked like their was octopus inside. I asked the server about it, he was so super cool about it and actually ended up taking it off the bill since not all the ingredients were disclosed on the menu, as i would not have ordered if it knew it was a fish mixture ball, not a shrimp ball. i was super bummed that the shrimp balls actually come from a package pre-made :( and that they couldn't even be fried right - fried things aren't supposed to be soggy! They serve their drinks in big mason jars which is super cool, the thai iced tea looked bomb. I just got water, and pretty much didn't drink it - they should really add lemon or something becuase it was super foul tasting I think maybe since this place is so new, will eventually have their things together. I told myself i'll go back in a few months to try it but my first experience left a bad taste in my mouth-literally! It could have been an off day. I usually order to go and the food was cool. I got the fried rice the first time and the vegetable spring rolls the second. Loooove the spring rolls. Got them both pretty fast. I just came from there and i must say the service was terrible. Took forever to take our orders and get drinks. I had to remind another waiter to get my drinks.. i didn't get my food until over an hour of being there which is crazy because Togo orders who ordered after me left pretty quick! I guess you can see where their priorities are. On another note, the fried rice is yummy. The udon soup is mediocre. Nothing to wait over an hour for. The Thai tea is BOMB! Can't go wrong with that! Love this new spot in Concord! So far I've liked everything except the udon soup, which was completely flavorless. The Thai Noodle Salad is my favorite thing here. Reminds me of Burma Superstar Rainbow Salad with tons of great flavor and fresh herbs. It definitely has some kick to it so stay away from it if you don't like spicy stuff. My father in law is super picky about every place we go (I mean everywhere!!). And he didn't complain about anything when we brought him here last week. He silently ate everything with zero complaints. That's a first for us!! The first time we came here we had to wait a while for our food, but I think it was because of a huge online order that came in as we sat down. Food wasn't anything special. I've had better Thai food. It was pretty average so not sure what the hype is about. I enjoyed the Pad See Ew. My family thought the Pad Thai was very simple and below average.. and again- nothing special. I agree in that the service was not great. I will say our two waiters were attentive to my allergies and very accommodating. However, for a night that was very much NOT busy our food took a whole 25-30 minutes to come!! There were literally 2 other parties while we were there. I fear for this place on a packed night. Also, our initial waiter wasn't the friendliest. Seemed like he didn't want to be there. I didn't even know this place opened and I am sad I moved away before I had a chance to go here again. The food was delicious and came out pretty fast. I got the pad-se-ew and my friend got the drunken noodles. We shared them both because they were both really good! We couldn't finish all of the food, so we took it home but mine didn't even go into the fridge because I ended up wanting to eat more of it. We got ice cream sandwiches at the end and I had a dream about mine the next night.... My wife and I visited STIX for dinner. She ordered the chicken pad thai while I ordered salmon curry with brown rice. STIX offers a reasonably diverse menu with a few vegetarian and fish choices. There are a variety of fried rice, curry, and thai food choices. One can order meat on a stick. With curry entries, one can request noodles, white or brown rice, all at the same price. The restaurant is quite casual. Most tables have backless stools rather than regular chairs. We chose one with chairs for the back support. Our waited returned to our table to inform me that STIX was out of salmon and would catfish be OK in my salmon curry. We waited about 30 minutes for our food to be served, which seemed to be a remarkably long time. Finally, we called a waited to go check on the progress. Another ten minutes later, it appeared steaming hot. The pad thai was not bad. It came with a good portion of chicken meat but it was made with a mix of clear rice noodles and wheat flour noodles that gave it an unusual texture which didn't improve the dish over more traditional ingredients. My catfish curry was very tasty - plenty of fish and vegetables in a pleasing and somewhat spicy sauce. The prices were a bit above average for this type of fare - $15 per entree. We had hot water with our meal but one could order lemonade or Thai tea that came in a large mug for $4. Overall, the service was congenial but incredibly slow. The food was good but not exceptional. And the pricing was just slightly higher than similar restaurants. We were satisfied with our meal but not so impressed that we'd go out of our way to return. read more

I'm a new fan, ordered the chicken pad se ew and it didn't disappoint! Whenever trying a new Thai place my fear is blandness especially when it comes to the stir fried noodles but their pad se ew was flavorful and portion size was hefty. I usually finish my meal still hungry but this hit the spot. They also combine both American and Chinese broccoli which was nice. I could have bought a whole Chinese roast duck at 99 Ranch nearby, a tub of red curry, tossed it in a pot and fed 6 people. No wonder Thai people are so skinny! I been there twice and it was empty but that shouldn't fool you. The service is good and isn't pesky. The pad Thai is solid and the curry in the bowl bread was okay just be ready for hella bread. Visited this restaurant twice already, same owners as Savanh in Pleasant Hill. Same great food with more entrees. This restaurant has lots of room, great for groups! They took over the former McDonald's location at the Park n Shop strip mall. The food is delicious! All dishes are cooked to order, so dont be surprised if some dishes may take longer to cook than others. The entree portions are enough to share. Parking may be a bit challenging but the lot behind the restaurant, Rockin Crawfish side always has open spots. I will be back soon to get my Thai/Lao food fix! read more

Arrived about 6:30 pm and the place was pretty empty. Pleasantly decorated; it is not reminiscent of McDonald's at all. We ordered the following: Pork ball skewers, $6: total of 9 balls (3 skewers). Texturally similar to pho balls, but juicer. Also had a crispy layer on the outside. Nice and salty. Came with a dipping sauce, but we preferred it without because the fish sauce in the dipping sauce overpowered the taste of the pork balls a bit. Laotian sausages, $6: total of two sausages. This was the standout of a very good meal. Juicy with notes of lemongrass, lime, and garlic. We've had the sausage at Champa Garden in Oakland a couple of times, and the sausage at Stix was hands down the better of the two. Complex and nuanced flavor. Tom kha, $5 for personal portion: I love Tom kha as a comfort food, so I had to taste it here. It was more lemongrass forward than coconut heavy, and you could also taste the fish sauce flavor. Many times coconut overpowers everything else when I order the soup, so this was a refreshing different take. BBQ park skewers, $4: total of 2 skewers. Again, juicy with touches of lemongrass or citrus. Garlic-fried rice, $10: homey, comforting, tasty. Garlic-noodles, $10: also homey, comforting, and tasty. My bf said he thought it might have been a touch too much garlic, but the garlic didn't bother me (it is called garlic noodles, after all). The service started out quite attentive. Someone came by to refill our waters regularly, and I got the sense they were checking our progress with our appetizers before bringing out the rice and noodles. However, all the servers disappeared for awhile near the end of our meal, so we had to wait a bit before getting our leftovers boxed and paying he check. They also did not yet have the Hong Kong style milk tea that's on the menu when we tried to order it. Overall, though, this was a delicious meal that cost $44 without tip. We were happy with everything we ordered, and very pleasantly surprised by the sausages in particular. It would be nice if they started serving beer. read more

We had checked out this place recently and it was quite a surprise. This particular strip mall already had everything as far as diverse restaurants ranging from Asian to Hispanic and even Mediterranean. The place used to be Mcd's before they totally remodeled changed it into this Asian Fusion establishment. The Thai/ Vietnamese restaurant offers Pad Thai, Satay, Noodles, and Fried rice dishes which are family friendly as in portions. The Vietnamese iced coffee was really large and quite smooth. We had started with Satay and Calamari as starters. One of the kids has peanut allergies and they were accommodating toward us if anything had nuts or cashews on the dishes. We had ordered the Hawaiian Fried rice with Spam, Beef Ball skewers, Chicken Pad Thai, and some sort of hot/ sweet chicken wings. All the food was really good and nothing was out of this world Spicy. There is a Spicy dish called the Volcano which looked very spicy, but they even warn you that if your "crazy" this is the hottest thing on the menu. I like it subtle so if you want a change of place; try this Family friendly eatery and you'll be pleasantly surprised too. read more

I first found this restaurant ~ 30 years ago (different name but same owners) on Oak Park Bvd, PH. Always had the same dish (tried others - that were good - but came back to same dish) the string bean chicken. Ko got me hooked on deep fried garlic on top. Then I went often but suddenly they closed. I'd looked for my fav dish thru the years w/o luck. Saw Stix Eatery last year & was open for something new. I walked in Stix the first time & was greeted by Ko who said 'I know you.' I didn't remember but she confirmed that this is the same as in PH back then.
