Sergio is big on promises, bad on delivery...and he stole my money! Sergio did a nice job on my backyard around 6 years ago, and at a good price, so I encouraged my homeowner's association to hire him to install a small patio and pergola in our common area - BIG MISTAKE! While promising repeatedly to get the work done, it took him 3 months to do what was arguably a simple 2-week job. In the meantime, he left our common area an unsightly and unsafe mess. After many, many promises, he didn't show up day after day for weeks and months. He only managed to finally get it done because we offered him more money if he finished by a certain date. It was a stressful, awful disaster! But the worst thing is that Sergio stole my money. At the beginning of the job, after he delayed the start by a couple weeks, Sergio came to me to ask for a loan of $2500 to fix his truck so he could start my association's work. Foolishly, and because I felt my reputation was also on the line, I loaned him the money. Nearly a year later, he has not paid me back. He has, of course, made many promises to pay me back over this time, but he has not. So my nightmare continues to this day. Sergio is communicative and seems nice and accommodating, and he'll give you a great price (especially by Chicago standards), but he's not an honest man in the end. My sense is that Sergio over-promises, gets in over his head, and doesn't have the staff to complete the work. I suspect his workers have gotten tired of his empty promises, too. read more

STK Landscaping did an amazing job on the pavers in my backyard to the point that afterward I asked Sergio, for his suggestion for the front and side of the house. He came up with a paver and perennial garden design for the front that also came out amazing! Sergio is great to work with, he is always responsive, professional, and takes the time to explain your options. If you have ever worked with a poor contractor, you know just how helpful this can be if you are a novice. I also love their professionalism and process with providing a software generated electronic quote documenting everything and ability to pay online - super convenient! We paid Sergio thousands of dollars in advance of work being completed and he continuously told us over and over that he would be there the next day and then he would not show up. He installed fence posts but then never came to complete the job leaving us with ridiculous looking posts in our front yard. we asked for a refund for weeks but have received 0 dollars. This was the worst experience we've had working with contractors and we truly regret the day we decided to move forward with him. read more

Sergio is a conman. STK Landscaping has 2 Better Business Bureau ratings of "F". He's running a scam trying to get more money from clients with the feeble/unbelievable excuses for not being able to start projects that have 50 percent deposits, or complete projects that have even more monetary investment. He asked for multiple advances on top of the deposit PRIOR to starting work, disappeared and blew past numerous new "start" dates for MONTHS on end. Would come for a day and disappear for months. Someone needs to ipen an investigation into this business. I'm sure there are many more clients scammed out of their money or a final product through his practices. Or just left with a laughably shoddy, unworkable end product. Don't believe anyone who claims he's a good value. Look up the company on the BBB site for yourself. I would barely believe the complaints there and here on Yelp if I didn't have a trail of text exchanges virtually identical to them. His practices are deceitful and could leave you having to repeat whole portions of the job, if not all of it. read more

Sergio responded to my inquiry to have a patio built along with a draining system and sod installed in my backyard. He was kind and knowledgable. We negotiated a price and he offered to install sod in my front yard for no additional cost the next day, if i paid a 50% deposit. I paid the deposit and the sod (left over from another project, some dying) was installed. We also agreed on a deadline to complete the work. Less than a week after I paid the 50% deposit Sergio reached out asking for an additional 25% because his truck had broke down and he was unable to complete jobs. The work on my place (minus the sod in my front yard) had not been started. He agreed to make my patio larger in exchange for the 25% advance. I gave him the additional advance. I was constantly calling sergio (he's never actually answered my phone call, will only text me after i've called) inquiring about when the work would be started and reminding him of my deadline/our agreement. He started the work and the day it was to be finished he asked for additional money to purchase materials. After getting my backyard at a place in which i could host an event Sergio asked for the final balance to pay his team. The drain system was not complete nor the front yard sod or patio. The additional pavers used to enlarge the patio were taken from an old project. Sergio explained that they would be pressure washed and cleaned after installation. As of today, I am still waiting for Sergio to pressure wash the pavers, seal the patio and finish the sod in the front yard (some was dying and there was a patch never installed). i've called every week for almost a month, he responds with a text saying he'll complete the work and never shows up. My hope in writing this review is that he will finally complete the job. read more

OMG! I love working with Sergio aka STK Landscaping, Inc. Sergio and his staff are very professional and well knowledgeable in landscaping. I love that Sergio was on time, when he told me he would be at my home at a certain time, trust & believe he was at my home at the time he gave. His staff did the most wonderful job with laying sod & bricks around my home and they made sure they cleaned up every little piece of dirt after every visit. Incredibly well-run company with talented landscapers. Built beautiful short parkway walls for us. Everyone else on our street had these lovely gardens with little walls. We had a disaster weed jungle with showing landscape fabric - it was a mess. Mulch kept rolling into the street and onto the sidewalks every day. I requested a couple of quotes for a relatively small job and probably it being spring and landscapers being swamped didn't help the responses but Sergio was 1 of 2 that replied. He mentioned he was very busy but could probably fit my project in between some bigger ones he was working on. From start to finish Sergio was a class act, very communicative and i explained him what i wanted done basically by email. I had bought the bluestones needed myself and Sergio went to pick them up on the day he started the project. He actually needed a couple more stones and took them from his own yard not even charging me for it, he said they were left overs, so no need to worry about it. You dont hear these things often anymore. So we never actually met and he got the job done exactly as i wanted, there is not many of businesses like Sergio around these days, listening to their customers, not upselling anything and more then reasonably priced as well. I know he does not have many reviews and i went blind with him as well but i could not have been happier with how it worked out from start to finish. We have Sergio and his son Ethan over right now working on a large landscape design job. Sergio was very helpful during the design phase with recommendations on materials, sizing and grading of the area. He also provided good input on timing and phasing with regards to other work in the backyard. Their estimate was competitive and Sergio was professional throughout. The execution of the work has been awesome. The team pays attention to detail - they did everything by the book and were conscientious of the existing landscape/plumbing and electrical work in the back. I wanted to get my driveway redone. I needed to get my driveway redone. It was a gravel driveway, over 1100 square feet that over the years had become more weeds and dirt than gravel. I had done the gravel, which was beautiful, but now I was looking into having pavers installed. So, after much research on driveways, watching how to videos on paver installs, speaking with contractors and researching the major paver makers and dealers, I was thorough, I finally came to the realization that the job was too big and too important to me to take the chance on having me and a few of my friends to tackle it. But all I could see was complete disaster because I knew it would be a pretty sizeable and complicated job, if done right, and I figured this job was also going to set me back a pretty penny and to be honest, I hadn't had the best luck with contractors during that time. Incompetent, unprofessional, they weren't willing to guarantee their work, showing up late or not at all. Then, the estimates I was getting for the job was outrageous. It was clear these contractors were trying to take advantage of a situation and many just weren't doing installs in my area. Then, one of the paver supply companies suggested I visit stores that carried my desired product so I would get an idea of cost for myself and to get a look at a wider selection before making a decision to make sure I would be happy with what I was getting. It just so happened that this particular company gave me two referrals, one was for STK landscaping. After the initial meeting with Sergio to discuss with him what I wanted, I just got a good vibe from him and felt that he was honest and forthcoming. He explained that, if I hired his company, this would be one of the biggest jobs he had done at the time, but explained to me how he would approach the job and everything lined up with my research. I then went online, checked his references, looked at some of his other work and reviews. This lead me to believe that he knew what he was talking about and I could trust him to get the job done. In late May of 2018, they broke ground on the project. I was impressed with how each phase unfolded, for each phase there was a different team that worked in tandem. Each day they did their work for that day, cleaned up and set their tools and prepared the area so that the next work day, they picked up right where they left off until the project was completed. In all honesty, I can't say that I didn't have issues or concerns throughout the whole time they were there, but when I had a question or a concern I called Sergio and he resolved it right away to my satisfaction. As the project went on, I felt comfortable enough with his team that I could go directly to them and they were right on point to resolve any issue that arose. I felt like with STK, the customer came first. You're not always going to agree, but if there was anything that I didn't like or wanted to change, it was no problem. But, most of the time, each of them were on point and didn't miss a beat, this company was definitely a change of pace and didn't perform like your everyday/average crew. It was clear each of them had been at this awhile and had worked a number of jobs together to have this type of rapport on the job. Due to various issues with product availability and inclement weather, there were quite a few delays, but Sergio and his team came back as many times as it took to complete the job. They had been at my house so many times, we kinda missed having them around when the job was done. These guys went above and beyond on this one. Work was completed in late June, I got the gorgeous driveway I always wanted, fit for a showroom spotlight all its own. It compliments everything around it, the house, my car, the garden, etc. I've gotten a ton of compliments from friends, family, neighbors and even passersby. The water company was doing work on my block at the same time I was having my driveway redone and a number of the workers came over to get Sergio's information so they could have them do work for them. I am happy to say, all in all, the project went really well. I'd hire them again and I highly recommend them. read more

We needed a contractor to replace the gravel in our rock garden -- a job too small for many of the landscaping companies we called, but more than we could do ourselves. Sergio replied to our request for an estimate promptly. His work was very competitively priced, and he was available to start within days.
