Today we went in for a late lunch and were the only table in the dining room, yet we still had a very disappointing experience. We all ordered appetizers, but it took about 20 minutes for everything to arrive because the dishes came out one at a time instead of together. The same issue happened with the salads and entrees -- no one at our table received their food at the same time. One couple ordered the beef on weck sandwiches. The beef was extremely dry and overcooked. Being from Buffalo, I know what a good beef on weck should be, and this definitely was not it. My wife ordered the scallop dinner, which came with only five very small scallops that were overcooked. I ordered the beef tips, and they were so overcooked they were almost like jerky. I sent them back, and while they did remake the dish, it took another 15 minutes. Because of the delay, everyone else at the table had already finished eating before my replacement meal arrived. Our server was around, but overall was not very attentive throughout the meal. read more

It was a Monday and most restaurants around this beautiful rural area of Western New York were closed. The one place close to us was the Stockton Hotel, an historic roadhouse that's been around since 1899. The place was crowded with other guests also looking for an open restaurant. What they called beef stroganoff was nothing more than some cut up meat and a little gravy slopped over noodles, it was NOT actual stroganoff. Terrible experience. Four of us sat down and ordered food and drinks. I ordered a water with my beer, it took the waitress 45 minutes to even remember after I asked her 3 separate times. I had to go to the bar myself for the water. We waited an hour and fifteen minutes and never got our food. We decided to pay for the drinks and leave. Service was terrible. Not our first time here, came back cuz we knew it was good. Sat at the bar because we like the interaction with the staff. Saw a number of things that sounded good on the menu. House made chips, Onion rings and French onion soup originally caught my eye. Saw the people behind us get the mussels. We love mussels if they're done right. So I asked them if they liked them. They said they were outstanding. Would not have ordered otherwise. This is out in the country, what do they know about cooking mussels? Obviously, everything. These were the best damn mussels I've ever had! I've had them at Sunset Grill, I've had them at bonefish Grill, I've tried to make them at home... I'd come back here tomorrow to get the muscles again. They were made in a butter garlic sauce and let me tell you, so good! We actually even thought about taking an order home. We didn't get served silverware and we ate them right out of the shell scooping up the sauce and then dipping the garlic bread they were served with. Besides that, we ordered the blue cheese burger. Got that with the onion rings. The burger was really good, as well. They had two decent IPA's on draft. Full bar and restaurant. Clean bathrooms. The parking lot was full. A woman at the Dollar General said the Stockton Inn was the place to go for dinner. Perhaps this was my first mistake. The person with me said the grilled haddock was good. But the Greek salad had brown lettuce and instead of tomatoes or cucumbers, had sliced banana peppers. I love peppers, but not pickled banana peppers. The service was adequate but far from friendly. Not gonna lie, we came here for the first time thinking it would be a little more upscale (I guess it was the name?). But, as soon as you walk in there are funny signs, Bills gear, and lots of camo, so we knew we had misjudged. Even though we were hoping for a mid-rare steak with some sort of bougie glaze, we were not disappointed. We sat at the bar and had a local wine. It was dry enough for us and pretty good. The wine choices weren't huge, but did the trick. Carla, the bartender was awesome and she and our fellow diners made the trip out there a top notch experience. We ordered the black and blue burger, mid rare. Let me tell you--it was the bougie bite we were hoping for! omg. The blue cheese was chosen perfectly--it melted and wasn't too bitter. The bun held it all together beautifully. But, the meat, woah. So freaking good. It had that nice char, juicy, cooked perfectly and just every bite had us ready for the next bite. I usually like fixin's and sauces but this burger didn't need a thing more than the perfectly seasoned meat, the cheese, and the bun. We'll be back for sure. read more

My wife and I went there on a Sunday for lunch. When we arrived, the main dining area was closed but there were tables in the bar. The bartender was very polite and asked us what we wanted to drink. I ordered a Makers Old Fashioned, when she brought it over she was very adamant that I tasted it and made sure it was too my liking. She had used the bottom of the bottle and there was more than one shot of Bourbon in it. Before tasting it, I informed her that there's no such thing as too much bourbon. She smiled and laughed making me feel right at home. The drink was perfect. Both my wife and I had the hot roast beef sandwich. I have never had one when the bread was toasted, but it made the sandwich taste better by not getting all soggy. I had fries with gravy on them, they were ok but they were thin cut fries and they didn't hold up to the gravy it would have been better with steak fries. Overall, was a very good meal at a fair and decent price. We will have to try it at night sometime for dinner. We will be back!!! read more

After living in the area my entire life, we finally had a chance to check this place out today. We ate in the bar area as it was only after 3:00, but they were serving pub food and the wings were on special for $.65. Sold! The service was friendly and the wings were done perfectly. If you're looking for humongous jumbo wings, one might be disappointed...but if you like crispy, medium sized wings (as I do), these wings are for you. I ordered one of the specials - black cherry whiskey and while I didn't really detect that in the flavor (more of a seasoned dry rub) a requested cup of hot sauce spiced them up nicely. Sig other got the Glazed Teriyaki and they honestly tasted better than mine! Looking forward to going back to try more flavors in the future. Couple that with a great selection of Southern Tier drafts and a handful of decent domestics/imports with a full bar, and you have a great combination that just works! read more

We ordered three appetizers, and although they had an empty dining room, after 45 minutes they were delivered cold. Every time I go here I leave very happy. I have had everything from burgers and wings to scallops and steak. The steak is always cooked perfect and everything has always been good. First of all it is out in the boonies and the food and service is amazing - the vibe is totally positive. I am have yet to go there without having a great time. I write this review with a heavy heart, as this was one of our favorite joints in recent years on the occasion that we got a night out. We haven't been in a while and our first visit back to the Stockton Grill was vastly disappointing. One of my other half's favorite dishes here was the blackened cod and mashed potatoes. This time around the fish almost tasted as if it had been reheated from a prior cooking. It was rubbery in that awful way fish gets when it is cooked more than once. The garlic mashed potatoes were a horrendous texture and tasted as if they had raw minced garlic in them. There is no way they were tasted before sending them out to the dining room. I ordered the scallops over wild mushroom risotto. The scallops were done well enough, but the risotto was bland and again tasted as if it had been made in advance and reheated. I know that some restaurants pre-cook the rice to speed up cooking time in the kitchen when firing dinner orders, but this tasted as if the whole side dish was made in an advance and reheated on the stove or in a microwave. We sat at the bar for our meal and the bar tender was great. He was attentive and knowledgable about his drink selections, from beer to bourbon. He is the reason they are getting 2 stars and not just one. read more

Love this place! My husband & I stopped in here late Saturday night on our way home from a wedding. We live about an hour away from where this wedding was and we needed a snack before making the long drive home. It was about 10:15pm when we drove by and noticed this nice restaurant on the corner! I turned the car around praying that they were still serving food!! When we walked in there were a few people at the bar and we asked is your kitchen still open? They kindly said yes but only a limited menu. No problem with us! I quickly looked and saw that they had a pulled pork sandwich on the menu and I didn't even think twice! I ordered that which came with fries and my husband ordered a dozen wings. Our food came our about 15 minutes later, which I was super happy about since I was pretty hungry! The pulled pork sandwich was seriously the BEST PULLED PORK I have EVER HAD! Huge pile of pork on a very soft roll! I topped it off with some additional bbq sauce...oooh finger licking good!! The fries were hot, homemade and fried just perfectly to have a little crunch on the outside and nice and soft centers, just the way I like them! The wings were hot, spicy & delicious too! The hot sauce was very tasty with just enough kick to it! After we finished eating, we moved up to the bar to pay our tab and ended up staying for a nightcap! Great service & everyone was so friendly!! We were so thankful that they made us food even when their kitchen was pretty much closed. We ended up meeting the owners, Jim & his wife too! You can tell that the owners take much pride in their food and service and it shows! If we live closer, we would be regulars here for sure! read more

I came here and I was really just in the mood for desert. The waitress didn't know how to explain what I wanted when I asked for further detail, so I guessed with the options she gave me. The chocolate cake was ok and if I knew it had little nuts inside, I'd kinda of would have select the salted caramel instead. We've eaten dinner 3 X since they re-opened as the Stockton Grille. The food and service is great. We prefer eating in the bar as the menu is more varied and they still offer several of the dining room selections. The salmon is fantastic, crab cakes are fantastic, beef on weck also fantastic. Only complaint is that the A/C vents on the floor can be excruciating when they are blowing on your legs. Keep up the great work! read more

Nicely restored country hotel. I started with onion soup, which was all it should be. Beef-on-weck followed. Lots of thinly sliced, tender beef - a very nice portion. The shortcomings were the horseradish, which was not even close to being fresh or even noticeable, and the roll - a softish bun with caraway and kosher to be sure, but NOT a kummelweck. It had no body, and quickly turned to mush. Still, that beef was good! The service was friendly and attentive. The local country music station competed with conversation, but that's OK. It's Stockton. No need to remove your truckers cap here. read more
