This company does not even deserve 1 star review we purchase the car on Feb 6th 2018 and here it is June 14 th 2018 still do not have registration and now they will not even send new paper plates. Called on Monday they said plates were ready so we went to court house and spent 2 hours at the court house to find out they have submitted the wrong paper work 2 times. So now 3 months have gone by and now we have to go and get a new inspection since the one we received the day we bought the car is now expired. Go somewhere else to buy your car the people do not take care of there side of the sale or thier customer. read more

The only reason I can think of for terrible reviews, is an unlucky situation, or impossible standards. I don't make a ton of money, and my car was recently totaled, so I was looking for something fairly cheap, but within a strict budget. I got pre approved for a car loan and went to Stohlman with a few vehicles I had seen online in mind. After a test drive of one of the three, I was ready to get started. Nikolay Tomov helped immensely in making this process as painless as possible. I had to wait quite a while, because of situations that arose with the vehicle and needing to pass inspection, but Nikolay made sure that EVERYTHING was taken care of, including a wash, detail, and gassed up my car before I left. He made sure the car was in perfect condition and up to snuff before I left the dealership. I even received PERMANENT tags so I won't have to hope they arrive before the temporary ones expire! If you are in the market for a quality used vehicle I would highly recommend Stohlman VW of Tysons! Ask for Nikolay or Khalid and you won't be disappointed! read more

After years of research and planning (and longing), I am finally the proud driver of a Subaru Forester! Shopping around for a new car is stressful by default, but Stolhman's star Bernadette made choosing my 2017 Forester Limited a wonderful process. Living in the District, I didn't have the flexibility to make frequent trips to Tyson's Corner as I was shopping around, and few dealers were willing to work out numbers and answer my questions unless I came in. But Bernadette stood out, and was quick to answer all of my financing questions and was even patient enough to answers my father's second opinion questions for several days leading to our final decision. Although the actual process at the dealer did take a while (busy Saturday!), I am happy that I was able to drive away in my dream car all thanks to Bernadette and Stolhman. The reviews that say there is "no pressure to buy" are definitely not true. Recently, I came here to check out a used Subaru that I found online. The appointment process was easy, which was appreciated. I went on the test drive. I was familiar with some features of the Subaru, but it had been a while since I went to a Subaru dealership so I was hoping that someone could explain them to me on the test drive. I asked a lot of questions during the drive like "what do these buttons do" and "how do you activate this," but I could tell he wasn't familiar and couldn't answer my questions fully. It's a Volkswagen dealership so I can't blame them for not being Subaru experts - but I just wanted to note this for anybody coming here. Finished the test drive, went back inside to talk pricing, etc. FYI not all of the salespeople have closed offices, so my family and I sat at a desk in the open area of the dealership which I didn't feel comfortable with since we kept negotiating the price and everyone could hear our conversations. The problem with the people here is that they don't go the extra mile to make sure their customers are satisfied. All they care about is the price WHICH I understand because this is their job - but also I am in my 20s. This is my first car and a huge purchase. I have never shelled out $20 some thousand on anything in my life so I'm sorry if I wasnt ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN on the spot. The entire negotiation process was me politely saying, "this is my budget, I really didn't want to go any higher than x," and being told "well your budget is really too low to be looking for a car like this." RUDE and unprofessional! Then they tried to sell me other cars that were apparently in my budget that I didn't even want. I said multiple times that if they're unable to meet my budget at this time for this car, then it is perfectly OK and I can leave and come back when I have enough saved up. I literally got up, had my jacket, thanked him for his time and information, and these people WOULD NOT let me walk out the door. PLEASE RESPECT YOUR CUSTOMERS! If they tell you respectfully that they will need to take some more time, THAT IS WHAT THEY MEAN. He says, "why do you need more time? You like the car right? Well I really don't understand what you need more time for," with a straight pissed off face. Look, I understand the hustle (I have worked in customer service and held down two simultaneous jobs all through college). But throwing a customer dirty looks and shoving papers at them without looking is just simply unecessary. In the end he pulled his manager over because I guess I was being a "difficult customer" to try to make a deal with me. The manager was a little bit more professional than the salesperson and at least kept his smile on the entire time. Ultimately I purchased a car that was slightly above my budget but I felt was a reasonable enough deal and at this point I had been at the dealership for HOURS and was ready to be done. Here comes the apathy. I noticed a small paint chip on the car which I asked politely if they could fix. No. I was told that the paint shop was closed and he wouldn't even be to get his hands on a bottle and that I would need to go purchase my own $10 touch up paint. I approached the manager I just worked with - once I asked his smile immediately faded and I was told that this was not included in the deal. He put on a straight face and told me that he would have to talk to the other salesperson because "he is more familiar with the car." FYI other dealerships DO fix all paint problems and allow their customers to return. Though I have my new car, I hope I never have to return to work with the same people again. I would not recommend coming here for anyone interested in purchasing a used car. If you are looking for a professional team who will actually provide some quality customer service, do not come here. read more

If I could buy all of my cars from Mo (Abdelaziz) at Stohlman for the rest of forever I would. I bought a new VW Tiguan a year ago and he still picks up the phone immediately when I call, does everything he can to help with my random requests (selling an older car this phone call), and is just a joy to work with. I had a baby, needed a new car, and like most people HATE the process of buying. I had test driven MANY different models of midsized SUVs and dealt with many other salespeople. I was pretty sure I was going to go with the VW, but had a lot of questions. Mo never made me feel any pressure and was a straight shooter. I just liked the time I spent with him AND he was able to give me the best deal around (believe me, I shopped it). As much as I'd like to believe differently, I am NOT easy going when it comes to making a big purchase. Mo handled every question, request, query with grace. He made me feel totally taken care of and valued even though I'm sure I was a giant pain in his booty. Since buying the car I've had reason to visit the service center once. Mike there is great- a good communicator and also made me feel like I was in good hands. Mo saw that I was there and came running out to make sure everything was ok (and just say hi!). The Volkswagen Taos that we purchased from this dealership wasn't what we were expecting. In less than two years while driving this car less than 10K miles, we had a bunch of problems. First, the dashboard monitor began freezing and won't come back until you spend several minutes driving. The service person told us that that was due to cold weather, something doesn't make any sense and wasn't addressed during routine maintenance. Second, coolant began leaking, so we had to request a new coolant. Third, horn stopped working suddenly. So, before other problems get addressed, now we have to start thinking about this since it is not safe driving without horn. Fourth, I was surprised to see that we get charged for annual safety inspection when other dealers offer this at free of charge. To be honest, German cars are so overrated and overpriced regardless of their brand names. Definitely not planning to buy them again. read more

I definitely feel there was a bait and switch/scam type of situation that happened. I was corresponding with a sales rep about a certified used car which was priced great. Scheduled to have my spouse go in and take a test drive. The receptionist forgot to tell the sales rep that we had arrived, waited for 45 minutes. Finally get around to test driving the car. Perfect. No need to negotiate, we were ready to buy. Start filling out the application and are abruptly told THE CAR WAS ALREADY SOLD. Left unhappy obviously because we wasted so much time and were clearly serious about buying. The sales rep emails and apologizes, says he'll make it up to us. I point out the most comparable car they had which was priced a little higher, told him what our budget was, said he would see if he could make it work. Never heard back. Get a survey asking how our experience was and replied back honestly. The manager replies back apologizing again. Told him the car we were were interested in, what our budget was again, and to make it work. By the way, the car we are now asking about is also used, certified pre-owned, and has been sitting on their lot for over 100 days, you'd think they'd use this as an opportunity to get rid of it. Nope. He tells us we have to increase our budget by 25% to get a car. No attempt to rectify the situation, just a list of cars that priced 25-50% higher and saying we need to up our budget. Fast forward a few days later, today, and that car is still on their lot and they dropped the price again. Still not enough. But definitely makes you wonder the legitimacy of this dealerships sales tactics. read more

I wanted to wait till I made a decision on the car I would buy before leaving this review. I highly recommend working with TJ if you plan on purchasing a new or used car. He will work and be in your side during the time of negotiation. On the other hand, I recommend being wary about one of the Pre-Owned Sales Managers: Kelvin Irizarry. I would have left a 5 star review even though I didn't buy a car from this dealership, however Kelvin completely killed that with his games/story telling. I came by Stohlman VW on October 12th around 8:30pm around the time they close. I met with TJ and had a great experience test driving a 2016 Civic Ex and learning about the car. My biggest concern from the get go was the amount of miles and I let TJ know from the beginning that I would be comparing cars. He did not hesitate when he recommended that I take the car for the night and get it inspected. After I agreed, he went to get approval from Kelvin his manager. Kelvin comes back and tells a great story and explains to me why I can't take the car to get it inspected. If I could star Kelvin for a role in a movie as a Used Car Salesman, I would. He had the classic hard handshake and did not miss an opportunity to project his voice. My biggest pet peeve is being lied to or being treated like a fool--and Kelvin did both. He wanted me to believe that the car I looked at was in the process of a deal that night and that the lady that was sitting right behind us earlier had to have a credit approval before they would let her take the car. An ordinary person may have believed Kelvin but one thing I kept from the dealership is that I am also I Sales. And I know a made up story on the spot when I hear one. If it is too good to be true, it is too good to be true. Kelvin could have simply explained that he did not trust me, or I came in late and he did not feel comfortable letting me take the car. Too bad for him I was ready to pay in cash. Once again my experience was not completely negative and TJ did a great job accommodating my needs and answering all my questions. 5 stars for you TJ--great follow up as always! May I add that the owner replied to the original review on google and it was anything but professional. When you hear them trying to explain their story after the fact, it's another big red flag. read more

I purchased my '14 VW GLI from Stohlman automotive. I purchased this car due to the salesman selling me on the fact that I would never have to replace the timing chain. I just had my car serviced this week and my current VW dealer told me that I must replace the timing chain and the water pump immediately. This is 4k worth of repairs, both of these items are currently under class action lawsuit as they are faulty mechanical parts but cannot be replaced under their extended coverage as I am at 130k miles and the lawsuit only extended to 100k. Stohlman refuses to back up the word of their salesman who said that this would never happen. I have spoken to their sales manager Mo who said he would talk to the GM and call me back. It never happened. DO NOT TRUST THIS DEALERSHIP. I will never buy a VW again and especially not from these people. read more

I had terrible experience with their service department. One year ago I had vehicle maintenance service there. Right after the service my car started to have air leak. I went back and they told me there was a nail in the tire and charged me $300 to fix that. I gave them the benefit of doubt. This year right after service my car started to have air leak again. What a coincidence. They told me the same story: there is a nail in the tire. I don't know how many nails they have around their dealship. But one thing I know for sure: I am not going to this dealership for any service again. It is a trap there. read more

I bought a new VW at Stohlman all by phone from out of state. My sales person was Tom Ryan. Everything worked as planned. Tom picked me up at the airport. The car was ready and even gased up all the way. Paperwork took 2h, then I was on my way. Stohlman did the registration in my state and 40 days layer I had my plates. In the 40 days I was provided with two temp plates from Stohlman. I would buy here again any time. read more

Worst dealership service department I have ever talked to. I have bumper to bumper warranty and on top of that electronics warranty on my car and they refused to check my car because it wasnt immediately throwing some form of check engine light but has a bunch of faults the computer is spitting out when you scan the car. Go to Lindsay VW Dealership in Dulles, they actually do care and love working on cars, after one phone call 5 minutes after Stohlman told me they wont work on my car Lindsay immediately told me they would check the car out for me. Stay away from Stohlman Service as much as possible, the fact that they told me to go away even though my car has 10k miles and full warranty still is mind boggling to me. Had a negative experience and wanted to share. Think they tried a bait and switch with me. Found them through a car buying service. Went to their lot, drove the car which had less than 40k miles. Negotiated a price for the car and arranged to pick it up the next day. They knew I lived over an hour away. Less than an hour before I was to pick it up (I was already on my way there), they called to tell me they couldn't sell me the car because it had failed an emissions related inspection (although it had just passed a state inspection?). 2 hour round trip wasted. I told them I'd give them a week to fix the problem. Their service center allegedly worked on it for a week but was not able to get it to pass the test. However, they offered to sell me a nearly identical one -- with less features (although a cleaner Carfax) and for $1000 more!!!! No extra consideration for my time and effort wasted, nor for their trying to sell me an "unsellable" car. During this entire time the first car was still listed as available on their website, even though they knew it was "unsellable" -- (the bait)? At the time of this review (over a week since the problem surfaced) it is still listed as available on their website with no mention of its problem. They either tried a bait and switch or are actively trying to sell cars that are "unsellable". Either way, shady practices. Buyer beware. This dealership appears to lack quality and customer oriented processes. Lots of other reputable VW dealerships out there. read more

Summary: The best car purchase I have ever had in 9 car purchases. Ask for Julio Rodriguez. Details: I came to Stohlman with my wife to test drive a used Subaru for my daughters first car. The Subaru dealer told us the Used cars sales department was in the VW building. We walked over and we're greeted kindly by a gentleman who said he would find some one in used cars sales to help us. He returned shortly and said they were all eating their lunch. It was 12:55 pm. A sales rep who sits by the door spoke up and said he would be happy to help us. This may have been a stroke of luck as I have found the sales person can make all the difference. Julio Rodriguez was excellent to work with. We took a lengthy test drive including the beltway as I wanted to drive at highway speed. We fairly negotiated on price and I feel both parties are happy. I would highly recommend buying from him and from this Stohlman location. My only recommendation is that they speed up the paperwork process that took about 90 minutes after we agreed on the price. read more

David from the service that I don't have warranty. Had a problem with my Assisted Cruise Control unit on my 2017 Touareg (love this car!) a few days in advance of a long family trip. Experienced outstanding service from the team at Stohlman VW. Service manager Mike Parrelli really worked hard to deal with a parts delivery that was delayed to get my vehicle done in time for the weekend trip we had planned. Communication was outstanding and the final price was actually almost $100 less than originally quoted, which I had never experienced at a car dealership. Purchased the vehicle from another regional VW dealership; however, I had several bad experiences with their service department that I vowed never to return. Was so pleased to find a dealer that exceeded expectations. Mike and his team has earned my service business for my Touareg and Stohlman VW will be the first place I go to purchase my next VW. read more

Not sure what happened to the service at Stohlman, but I've decided to end a 16 year, two purchased vehicles, relationship with Stohlman. I recently had my car serviced on 8/6/16, and had the most awful experience ever. Mike was working alone and a gentlemen from Suburu came over to help him. The guy from Suburu kept telling me he would tell me the status of my car in 2 minutes, and actually didn't tell me what was going on for 4.5 hours. Additionally, he only told me the recommended services at this point, one of which was extremely timely and costly. When I came back from an errand 30 minutes after I was told my car was ready, my car still wasn't ready and I asked to speak to the manager. Had I been told that my car needed a 12 hour recommended service, I would have immediately asked for a rental and left the car there. The gentleman in the service department did not give me that courtesy and left me waiting and subsequently made me come back for another trip. Joe (manager) came out to tell me he agreed that the service was unacceptable and would cover the cost of the recommended service on a later date. Additionally, my second key to my car was no longer working, so upon arrival to the dealership, I asked Mike to test it to see if it could be repaired. He tried a new battery and said it no longer worked and that I would need to purchase a new one. Following the discussion with Joe, I made an appointment to bring my car back and I would pay for the additional key since I was told it no longer worked. After getting the appointment squared away with Joe, and returning home, I learned that my steering wheel had not been properly put back on my car and that my driver's air bag was not functioning. So to top off the long waiting and lack of communication, the technicians left my car in an extremely dangerous position. I returned to drop my car off for all of the corrective work on 8/23/2016 and came back to pick it up at 7:30am on 8/27/16. I was initially relieved about everything since I thought Stohlman was having a one off bad day during my initial drop off on 8/6, however, the incidents that took place on 8/27 made me realize I could no longer continue to have my car serviced at this location. When I came to pick my car up, George could not find my keys, then when my keys were finally located, the new key had not been programmed, but the key that I was told no longer worked was reprogrammed and worked on my car again. Since Mike was too lazy to (or incapable) try to fix my key other than trying out a battery, he left notes that my entire key needed to be replaced and caused me to spend an additional $250 on a key that was never needed. All he had to do was attempt to reprogram the initial key. I asked to get my money back and George said he couldn't do it, and since it was so early in the morning no managers were around, but would leave a note for the manager to call me. After 4 days, I never heard back from the manager and called George back to see how they would remedy this situation. George said he'd speak to the manager and give me a call back. I've sent two emails that have not gotten responses and its now been about two weeks and I've still yet to hear back from anyone at Stohlman. The service here used to be impeccable. I still think Jack Smith is an awesome service advisor, however, I shouldn't have to go to the dealership only when he is working. At this point, I can no longer stand behind this dealership as the service has gone completely out of the window. After my family purchased both my sister's car in April 2000 and my car from Paul Turk in March 2010, this place has pretty much been the tradition of where we go for vehicles. It's really sad to move on, but they obviously don't care about customer safety, satisfaction, or retention. read more

Crap dealership trying to sell cars the 1980s style: High pressure, crap service all while trying to rip you off. I came in recently with a friend that was ready to buy a Golf R, but the salesperson we were dealing with was slow and terrible. He was actually trying to talk my friend into a Jetta. No, not a GLI, just a regular Jetta. We "blasted" ourselves out of there all while the sales guy was trying to get us to stay until he "touched the tower." Those are all car dealer sayings. Decided to give you another try. Initially because the specific vehicle in the specific model in an automatic, resided on their lot. I checked in advance and was told it was there and waiting to be driven. When I arrived, Tom Ryan assisted me as Paul Turk, whom I had chatted with earlier, was with other customers. Tom had already been made aware that I would be in. He grabbed a copy of my license and off we went. Before starting the test drive, I had a few questions since I had already tested the GTI SE a week before at a different dealership. He answered them and off we went. Took his standard route as we took our test drive on a Friday afternoon in traffic. I was still able to get the car up to speed and test the DCC, which was the most important feature for me to verify. We spent about 20 minutes test driving and another 45 minutes discussing the car, its features and other questions I had about the car, dealership and other generic questions. It helped that he owns a GTI and has owned a TDI in the past. Tom was very thorough and appreciated both his knowledge and personal information from his VW cars. Tom introduced me to Jaime Dent, the general sales manager. Jaime and I had corresponded two years ago just after I purchased my Jetta TDI from a different local dealership. It was nice to put a name with a face. She made me feel welcome and was happy I had stopped by. A few weeks ago I was really angry at this dealership when I came to test drive cars and they were closed on the first Sunday of the year. I wanted to test drive this car and that is one reason why I came back. I would recommend to the dealership to be more aware of when they close for a day to put a sign on the door. Express the reason you are closed and if necessary, lie as to why you are closed. You got me to come back because of a particular vehicle, but you won't necessarily get back the others who had to come a distance to get here. Personally, give this dealership a try. I went to another VW dealership last weekend, in fact the one where I purchased my Jetta TDI and where I have all of my service done. I wasn't treated as I should have been and gave Stohlman's a try. They have certainly won me over as a dealership. read more

This is mostly for the service department. But I will not be doing business with them again. I have bought three cars there: two Subaru's and a VW. My experience with the Subaru department is that they do not want to solve problems. The first car I bought, a 2005 Forester, the Radio kept dying -- finally after three times, they replaced it, and it was fine. The car also had a dashboard squeak when it was below 25...they could not fix it...I finally found a TSB, and presented it to them, on the sixth time. They did fix it then. The car also ate O2 sensors. While on warranty, I went through 5 of them, and two more out of Warranty. I finally gave up, and sold the car after 4 years. My other Subaru kept having issues with trim that they could not find. To this day, I do not know why, but it is off off warranty now. The final experience involved my VW, a 2013 GTI. At 7K, it started making noise. I brought in, but they said it was tires...I had worn out the tires in 7K miles, and wanted me to buy new ones. I did not. Instead, I started taking it to another dealership, and they looked at it, and told me it was the wheel bearings, and replaced it under warranty. read more

I encountered a distinct lack of "bedside manner" here along with a revolving door of a service department. I have lived in the area for more than three years and I've taken the car to Stohlman for warrantied and non-warrantied work. I will just post this as a caveat to prospective customers. I purchased a 2017 Golf GTI SE at the end of January 2017. I had been researching this purchase for well over 2 years and finally decided to pull the trigger. I found the vehicle through my credit union's TrueCar service and was able to secure an excellent price for it. It is my first brand new car WOO! Stephen Tyler was helping me with the sale. He guided me through every step of the process, I didn't feel rushed into any decisions or feel forced into buying anything I didn't need. Stephen and the team introduced me to everyone I might need to work with over the life of the vehicle, service department, etc. Every once in a while, Stephen follows up with a call just to check in and see how the car is running and to see if I have any questions or concerns. I also really credit Stohlman for removing dealer stickers (decals with the name of the dealership) from the vehicle at the time of delivery. As I was checking out dealers that is one thing that would make me walk away from a sale is being forced to advertise (for free) or pay out of pocket to get them removed. Fortunately, that was a non-issue and I walked away a very happy GTI owner! One thing that stood out for me, too was that Stohlman threw in a cargo management system for the back, as well as heavy duty floor mats (Monster Floor Mats) which generally run about $80+ I thought this was a nice touch and help keep the carpeting in the vehicle nice and clean. I'm a hiker and I sometimes forget to clean my boots before getting in my vehicle. I really appreciate you protecting me from myself. Without a doubt, I would recommend Stohlman VW to anyone in the market for a Volswagen. As for the vehicle itself. It's definitely a blast to drive! I essentially wanted a vehicle that was quick in traffic, had decent storage and utility, ability to be customized, fun and comfortable to drive, and easy to park. The GTI checked all those boxes. Part of me wishes I opted for the Golf R because I would have appreciated the 300+HP with AWD, but the R didn't have a sun roof, and for some reason that was really important to me. Regardless, I'm VERY happy with my decision to buy the GTI! read more

Update: I am bumping this review to five stars because I was pleasantly surprised to get a call from the sales manager promptly apologizing and ensuring that something like this was not in line with their dealership practices. On the contrary they turned a bad situation into a good one by selling me the car at a good price with the options I was looking for. It's very rare in the auto industry where you see a business turn a bad situation into a good one. Keep it up guys! Horrible sales experience, I would give them an absolute 0. After their sales person contacted me several times to buy a car from them, I decided to call them back and give them a chance with the VW Atlas. While talking to the salesman who was giving me his quote, I overheard the sales manager behind him drop expletives about the deal. This was directed at me, I was absolutely appalled by this behavior. Totally disrespectful and unprofessional, I have decided to put this dealership on my block list. DO NOT GO HERE!!! read more

So close to a deal both sides were happy with but then they did a bait and switch (twice). Worked with Saad Laouaouda and his manager, Mike. Saad hasn't been working there for too long, seems like a nice guy, but he definitely didn't have all his facts in order before negotiating the price and the condition of the car. I was looking at a used GTI that was less than a year old. Through phone conversations and e-mail it was stated they would sell it as a CPO (certified pre-owned car). This was stated numerous times. Awesome, right? Much more peace of mind on my part. But when it came down to the wire, and after a pricing snafu that added around $700 to the out-the-door cost, they took that promise back. To everyone I know in the car business and to all the people I talked to afterwards they were shocked and said it was a good thing I got out of there without a deal. Just a big red flag. Couple of other things to note, they won't really answer any questions through e-mail and will try to get you in the door. Good strategy on their part but is another reason maybe not to come here. The building, showroom, and waiting area are pretty nice though. Very clean and appealing to stay in for 3.5 hours. I have heard them be talked up by others, saying their good people. Apparently under new management and the experience certainly demonstrates the negative impact the changes. A few years back had an absolutely wonderful experience and naively expected similar results today. Complete and utter waste of time dealing with this g Following the receipt of multiple physical mailers, a number of emails, and a handful of phone calls I was lured into the dealership under false pretenses and fraudulent misspeaking claims. To make things worse, during the phone calls the sales manager and his associate derided their local competition in a blatant attempt to dissuade me from following up on emails/calls received from those other local firms. If there were avenues to report Stohlman to the CFPB or to somehow recoup the hours wasted dealing with these folks I'd like to know. At a minimum I can help alert others to their practices and recommend that you consider a different local dealer such as but not limited to Alexandria VW. **Update regarding Stohlman VW response below: Sean, thanks for the response. I had been working with Moe directly and the issue stems from offer letters your dealership mailed out and related discussed with Moe that we're used to lure me to the dealership before then claiming that the letters were a "mistake". For reference I've since received yet another copy of the same false and misleading (fraudulent?) offer letter. Simply shameful behavior from what was once a fantastic dealership. read more

Every repair shop and dealer has their good and bad stories about them. My first experience with Stohlman, however, was overwhelmingly positive ... so much that they may become my new VW dealership of choice. I recently had an accident and did quite a bit of damage to my GTI. I had a repair shop in Manassas handle the work for me. When I got it back, we noticed that there was still one minor issue - a clicking noise from the back wheels that was the rotor on the right rear brakes. Unfortunately, when I got the car back from my repair shop the first time, I had somehow misplaced the locking lug key, and needed to find a replacement. I went to the dealership that I bought my car from first, and while they were friendly and eager to help, they had some lug keys missing from their set and could not help pop the lug or order a replacement. They suggested I go to a nearby dealer and mentioned Stohlman. When I arrived to Stohlman and went inside, I was promptly greeted and after telling them the story, the service rep grabbed his lug set and quickly popped the lug. After sharing the story that the other dealer had lost the one I needed from their set he chuckled and said "We have like, ten of these sets. I can't believe they have missing lug keys. How would they do a repair on your car?" And not only were they able to pop the lug, but they had the replacement locking lug set in stock. Regular price was just under $80, but they gave me a $20 discount (even though he said he shouldn't because of by blue and silver jersey. But hey, at least it wan't a Romo jersey!) Everyone here was nice, helpful, and handled my issues with the greatest of ease and speed. That kind of customer service for a relatively small sale is how you earn someone's business and get a new customer. read more

Abe is the man. I emailed him my terms and he did his best to meet them. No hassle, no fuss. Enjoyed the car buying experience. Very much a contrast between Romano VW in Alexandria. That place sucked in comparison. New owner's clinic was really helpful in introducing me to staff and making me feel comfortable with the people working on my car. Free stuff was great too! I also just went for my 10k servicing. Despite the construction, things went smoothly. Customer service was great, they picked me up in a nice and clean vehicle, and they washed my car. Disclaimer: I purchased a vehicle from another dealership ONLY because Stohlman's did not have the used 2015 Golf GTI SE that I was looking for during the time window when I was purchasing; However, I am writing this because I think that Stohlman's customer service and culture is both noteworthy and superb for this area, and that deserves a 5 star review based on my experience. Check out Stohlman's, and ask for Tom Ryan especially if you are looking for a new car. He worked with me to delve into the world of 2016 and 2015 Golf GTI's, to include S, SE, Autobahn, and all of their accompanying packages and options. Tom demonstrated both honesty, integrity, attention, and an easy-going nature that was perfect for exploring Volkswagens in Tyson's Corner where everything and everyone else on the road in that area are anything but easy going. He responded to all of my questions, emails, and phone calls in a timely manner and went the extra mile to dig for the information that I was looking for with no unnecessary questions asked. I definitely sensed that Tom was looking out for my best interests, unlike a lot of other places that tend to have skeezy, questionable salesmen (as I'm sure many of you are aware). The experience at Stohlman's VW and with Tom was top notch, and although I ultimately didn't buy a vehicle from them, it was solely due to the unavailability of my particular desired vehicle. After 8 years, I am ending my toxic, exploitative relationship with Stohlman's service shop. Why have I put up with it for so long? This latest incident has been typical of these past years. My car couldn't pass its annual inspection because the airbag light was on (which occurred the last time I took it in, but with a hectic schedule, I foolishly didn't take it back.) Stohlman's kept the car for 3 days, awaiting the part. OK, fair enough. I was charged $1,700, picked up the car, drove it off the lot, and then saw that the airbag light was still on. Furthermore, it had certified and passed the car's inspection! How sloppy, corrupt, and dangerous can Stohlman's be? I then took back the car to get the airbag light fixed for real. Stohlman's then returned the car after busting the emergency brake, which worked just fine until I took it in. I love VWs, but I can't find a decent VW mechanic for the life of me -- literally. It's time now to find a new service repair shop to play with my life, falsify my car's inspection, and return it to me with new problems and repairs. Last but not least, Stohlman's never takes anything off for its blunders, and it tries its hardest not to honor online coupons. RIP, Stohlman's. read more

I bought a pre-owned Subaru Legacy and had a positive experience. In recent weeks, however, I am really starting to sour on Stohlman. My employer has a discount program through TrueCar, so I wanted to see what it was all about because I am looking to purchase a car in the next couple years. I filled out the information to find out what kind of deal I could get on a Passat. Once I did that, I began to get e-mails from Stohlman almost on a daily basis. I replied to one of the e-mails, saying that they were coming across as desperate and was making me not want to do business with them. I received a reply a few minutes later in which I was called out, saying that they weren't desperate but proactive (I used to work in sales, so I know what desperation looks like). Upset by this, I called Stohlman to get the name of the general manager, and the girl who answered the phone was extremely rude and condescending, spelling simple words at me. I e-mailed the general manager stating what I just posted above. I gave him my e-mail address and my phone number, but I have not heard from anyone. This shows me how much I matter to them, so I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I recently visited the service department for the first time for a routine check. My car is only a few years old so I didn't expect much in terms of issues. The point being take my experience lightly in terms of overall exposure to dealing with the department. However I must say that they were extremely friendly and willing to help/walk me through maintenance,etc. This should go without saying anything, but all too often we see service departments sticking it to us, so its a friendly reminder. OK, so the actual reason I'm posting. I do need new tires which they quoted me at $800+. I have not purchased tires in some time, so my apologies if I'm stating the obvious but this is wayyyyyyy too high. DO NOT have them replace your tires. I'm sure they are quite competent, but its simply paying too much for the service. I received quotes 50%, or $400 less than what they offered. I don't blame them since it is probably covering high overhead plus marked up labor for VW certified technicians. But simply don't do it. read more
