We were looking for a new and different place that serves barbeque other than Luicille's and Wood Ranch. Thanks to Yelp, it led me to Stonefire Grill in Fountain Valley. I went through a few pictures and I liked what I saw. It looked like a place that would make my two sons very happy as one wanted BBQ and the pickier one only likes pizza and pasta. Once we got into our car, I looked up the location and the Irvine location came up as well so we decided to go there since it's easier to get to. When we got there, I was a bit relieved because I didn't see a big line outside and there are empty tables in the patio area. It's never fun to wait for a table with kids on a Saturday night. Once we headed in, there were tables available as well. It has a very spacious dining room. It's a place where you order at the counter first then you can pick where you want to sit. We ordered a pepperoni pizza, tri tip meal with garlic mash, a full rack of baby back ribs, pesto pasta and a roasted cauliflower. At the beverage bar, you can also pick up your plates, utensils and condiments. Each ordered meal was brought to our table with friendly staff. The pesto pasta I ordered for myself was raved by the whole family. The rigatoni or the tube pasta was al dente. Surprisingly my 8yo preferred it more than his own pepperoni pizza. The tri tip slices were moist, not dry at all. The roasted cauliflower was something different but delish. It's served with a sauce like tahini and lemon juice mixed together. It's so good that my fiancé ordered another one. When our full rack of baby back came, it looked a little burnt on the top (BBQ sauce caramelized). That didn't bother us until a staff named Chandler who checked in with us asking if we wanted a replacement. We thanked him and told him we would be ok with that. After a few bites, other than the burnt parts, the meat was tender and fell off the bone easily. We had no problem finishing up the full rack but I thought in my mind I wished I had asked for a replacement. Chandler came back again to check on us and we gave him our feedback. He then offered us a brand new rack to take home happily. My fiancé had a pleasant chat with him for a while and we learned he has been working for the restaurant for about 21 years. Apparently this location has been in Irvine for 10 years even thought I only just found out about it for the first time today. The other staff worth mentioning is Michael Lance! He was so awesome and offered us more breadsticks. He checked in with us numerous times too. We all had a great experience tonight and we would definitely return again and again. While it may seem a bit like a fancy Pat and Oscars when you walk in, the similarities stop there. Great menu depth that focuses on BBQ, homemade pizza, pasta, and of course breadsticks. Everything I've tried here has been very tasty, and service has been excellent every single time. What makes it 5 stars is the Stimulus Package and the Salads (I personally like the Stonefire BBQ Chopped with chicken) because it is unbelievably cheap for the quality you get, especially in Irvine! Stimulus Package is ~$25 (not shown on menu) and includes a choice of a combination of their meats (ribs, chicken, tri-tip), a medium sized pizza with 2 toppings of your choice, a salad, and hot garlic parmesan breadsticks which is good for 4-5 people (or 3 very hungry guys). Don't be deceived by the price though, it all tastes amazing! The salads taste very fresh and the "small" portion is roughly twice the amount of salads anywhere else with twice the variety of ingredients and I'd say tastes twice as good. Just brought the relatives here last week and they loved it all... roasted vegetable pizza was one of the best pizzas around here that I have had. and you may not know this, but tri-tip is NOT AVAILABLE in many other places besides California! My texas and chicago family always ask for it. Its been 5 years since the last time I ate here and the food is just as good as I remember it. The service is pretty good too. Paola took my order and explained the plate sizes to me. If you haven't been here before, you place your order first at the front and pay. After that, they give you a tracker which you place wherever you decide to sit. Then highly skilled, GPS powered food runners bring your food wherever you are and also offer to grab anything you might need like extra forks, napkins, etc. The drink station is self-service. I ended up ordering a small BBQ Tri-Tip Salad. Don't let the size mislead you, though. A small feeds 1-2 people or me when I am starving. I came here with a few friends looking for some good BBQ. The establishment at first looks like a fancy restaurant but it has somewhat a fast food layout as well, where you order up front first then you get seated at your table. We got some breadsticks to start with... which were okay. As for my order, I wasn't really hungry but I just ordered a small order of Mac and Cheese. It was huge! And not bad of a price, about $5. It was pretty good. My boyfriend ordered the Tri-Tip, which we thought looked kinda small for the price he paid... we were expecting a big mess of goodness... like most BBQ places we go to, lol. But nonetheless the tri-tip was good. Our friends both ordered sandwiches. They said they were both good, but nothing too crazy like a need for a second visit. Overall, an Okay place. I placed a phone order around 5:38pm and walked in 6:10pm to pay and pick up my order. The young girl that took my payment, Anne B, seemed she wasn't at all interested in working, maybe having a bad day. I dunno...Anyway, she didn't tell me how long it will be and didn't say it would be a few mins. I expected the order to be ready by the time I walked in which was at least 30mins later. So I stood around waiting, thinking it shouldn't be more then a few mins. So, 5-7 mins later I went back to the cashier and got a different girl, Camille. Who was much more pleasant, seemed like she was having a great day, and had a smile on her face. I told her I had placed my order over 20mins ago, could she check the status. She found it immediately and told me it had been ready. I was like well, the other girl maybe didn't realize because she didn't check. Anyway, I saw they had fresh cookies and inquired about purchasing one and I told Camille I would like one. She was so sweet, pleasant and professional that she immediately turned my experience (which I'm a frequent patron of the restaurant) right back up. All because she gave me a free cookie, which I of course placed a tip in the jar and thanked her. Stone Fire Management, I'm a manager myself and I know a good employee when I see one. Found this place randomly and was very pleasantly surprised. The food is great (ribs & tri-tip) and prices are very reasonable (cheap). Great place for big parties b/c plenty of seating and you just pay up front (don't have to worry about bill after). Okay, so I have been comming here since I was in high school, about 12 years and I finally gave up on the restaurant. I was a regular 2+ times a week with my family. They even catered my wedding! Which I have to say was the best catering experience I have ever had. The staff are always friendly ! So where does it go wrong. It is the constant inconsistency in the quality of the food that has kept me from returning. Some days you will have the best tri tip you've ever tried and the next time it is cold and tough. Almost every time I go the order is messed up or something is forgotten. It doesnt matter if its busy or not, something almost always goes wrong. On the bright side, the carrot cake is the best in town and the salads are always delicious. This used to be the place to go for a great deal and some delicious grub but that has been lost now and I am not sure why. Best. Tri-tip. I've ever had. Now maybe I haven't been exposed to that much tri-tip but the one at Stonefire just melts in your mouth. It is so tender and the BBQ sauce that comes with it is just heavenly. I've had it twice and it has not failed. I'm actually going to order some right now just thinking about it! My coworker who introduced me to this place has tried many other things and she has never had a bad plate so I'm very excited to try different things. Stonefire is one of the best restaurants in socal. I've bee. To 5 or 6 locations and it's always the same high quality experience and food. The service is top notch (seriously) and the food is diverse and an excellent value. The owners have clearly spent the time perfecting every aspect of the business... The take out process is the gold standard in my book. The califlour meatsauce is amazing and addresses us low-carb people which believe it or not is very rare. The salads are huge and tasty. I went to eat here on Monday September 9th with three other friends after 7pm. My friends received all of their meals and sides before I had to stand up and ask for my food. The nice waitress apologized and went to check on my food. Nearly 10 minutes later, she came out with my food but all my friends were done eating. So if you do your math, nearly 35 minutes later, I got my food minus a salad that was also ordered. I told her to package it up for me as I was no longer hungry from the anger and she went back. Over 5 minutes go by and the manager comes out with my packaged food and says, "I'm sorry about your food. We must have lost the ticket or something." Not wanting to cause a scene, I looked in the bag and saw the wrong salad (Ceaser). I asked him for the correct salad (Cauliflower salad) and he says. "Oh I'm sorry I wouldn't get that salad, the cauliflower is not looking so good." Seriously!?! Why would you even sell that salad if you know it's no good? It's not that the food was late and that's one portion, but why would the manager make excuses for something he knows is already wrong? All of my friends were disappointed and I left there angry and hungry. I would seriously consider another restaurant before going here and them losing your ticket, getting no food or bad food because as the manager said, "The cauliflower is no good." You have to know what it is before you go in. This is not an average sit-down restaurant. You order at the register, you are given an number, and you get your own drink, silverware, etc. They bring your food out to you. That being said, I think the food is pretty damn good for the money. The portions are huge-- this normally is a negative for me because I often see places skimp on quality so they can serve you larger portions. I am honestly surprised at the negative reviews on the food. The salads here are HUGE and they are chocked full of the good stuff-- you know, the grilled chicken, chopped tri tip, fresh veggies, etc. Another reviewer compared this place to Pat and Oscars-- no way, I think the food is much better. Honestly I'm surprised at the reviews of this place in general. I have been several times and always have been very happy with my meal. I have been here before every once in a while, but I just found out about the Stimulus package. Now every trip will be worth while!!! The package includes a salad, choice of pizza with two toppings, breadsticks, and choice of meat. Thats a lot of food, can feed about 2-3 people. We got the caesar salad, pepperoni and sausage pizza, breadsticks, and the bbq tri tip. I am not a fan of caesar salad but it was amazing at Stonefire! I loved the garlic bits and it was just the right amount of dressing and cheese. I kept wanting more after I ate a good amount of it! The pizza was delicious as well. Thin crust but not like a flat piece of paper. I liked to dip the crust in extra caesar dressing. The breadsticks were freaking scrumptious. Again, the garlic on it was probably the star of the breadstick. I loved that they were not thick breads that would just get your stomach full. They were so fresh! The Parmesan cheese(?) on top= MMMMMMMMMMmmmMMM!!!! Last but not least...the tri-tip! We had the bbq tri-tip and the garlic butter tri-tip (we ordered two stimulus packages). Both were amazing, but I definitely loved the BBQ better. It was like heaven in your mouth. It was so soft, easy to chew, flavorful, you do not want to stop eating the tri-tip. My mouth is watering just thinking about this piece of meat. I do not know what Stonefire does to their meat but they are doing it right! I can not wait to go back. Service was good. When Stonefire Grill just opened, I went there quite often with my co-workers. It was THE place to go to for fresh salads and good portions. A small could easily feed two people. Almost all the salads are the same with few adjustments to distinguish them apart. My favorite is the BBQ with tri-tip or the South of the Border for the Avocados. I've always recommended the restaurant to friends and co-workers and everyone had good opinions of the place. But over time, I started to notice the quality starting to diminsh and what the restaurant was when first opened is different from how it is now. 1. The portions have changed. They used to give a lot more, but as of late, they started to cut down on the amount they give. 2. Quality - my corn today was not properly cut. It's apparent that they just quickly cut the corn from the cob and didn't do a quality check to see that they didn't cut off the cob completely. So my corn had hard bits to it and it was very annoying. The positive thing is that they have a lunch menu which allows you to order a smaller salad and get breadsticks. I would have given Stonefire a higher rating but due to my recent experiences, I will have to give it 3 stars. read more

For awhile this place had a bunch of food for a great deal. Pizza, tri-tip, salad and bread sticks all for 19.99. It would feed my wife and I for two night at least. However even without this deal, the place still has decent food for decent price. I highly recommend the pizza which is way better than those pizza chains. Went to this place for the first time yesterday and was pretty surprised by how good and how cheap everything was. At first impressions this place is a lot like Pat & Oscar's because you order in front and then go sit down where they bring you you're food. We got the Breasticks, the Tri-Tip, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and the Chicken Tortilla Soup. I especially liked the Tri-Tip over everything else. So you're feeling like you want a meal that could feed the whole village? Go here. A "small salad" is more like a medium, "medium" is more like a large, you get where I'm going with this. I've tried the chinese chicken salad, the bbq chopped salad (comes with choice of chicken or tri tip), and the south of the border salad. All are pretty good, come tossed, and they don't go heavy on the dressing. Except they're friggin huge! You can always tell who the newbies are because they order the "small" but are mortified once they see a gigantic pile of greens set in front of them. I like their tomato basil pizza and has a pretty thin crust, which I prefer over thicker crust. The pizzas are not as ginormous as the salads. Currently they do have the "express lunch" menu which has a "petite" salad (which can still be shared by 2 people). I think there's about 5-6 options on their "express lunch", but don't quote me on that. Some come with soup, breadsticks, and a variety of salads. I've tried the meats here but I tend to think they're really dry. They have a bbq sauce pump next to the go get yourself fountain drinks and I think its pretty good to smother over your meat. They also have to go boxes underneath the bbq pump so that you can bring home the leftovers. Prices are decent, people are nice, its clean, and it has a fire pit out in front...hence stonefire. read more

But I guess it's a chain... sometimes I wonder if the city of Irvine only allows chains in... yeah, there's the occasional mom and pop joint but the vast majority are chain restaurants/stores. Went there today for lunch. While I have always loved their dinners of garlic tri tip and chicken, we were really disappointed with our lunches. My wife had the Santa Fe salad and I had the Italian chopped with tri tip salad. Both were so bland that all we wanted to do was reach for the salt! The dressing was watered down. And where was the beef? Seriously, at first I thought they'd forgotten to put some in my salad. Then I spotted a few pieces the size of peas. I doubt if there was more than 2 tablespoons of beef shavings in my bowl. We were really hoping this would be our new go to lunch place, but why would we return after this experience? Usually, my work place orders this in huge catering trays for meetings. They always order the Southwestern salad, pasta dish, tri tip or chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, and the garlic bread. Everything tastes delicious, even when it has been a couple of days old. Finally went to Stonefire during lunch. My coworker kept saying a small salad was huge, but I didn't believe her until after eating the food. I ordered the lunch combo with 1/2 of Lemon Garlic Chicken, a petite salad, and garlic bread sticks for $9 something. Such a great deal!! I was fully satisfied from consuming a petite salad and bread sticks, leaving the chicken to eat for dinner.
