I have been going to the Stoneleigh P for over 30 years. That should tell you something. I keep coming back. Is the food impressive? In context, yes. This is a bar, a drinking bar, and the food is not an afterthought, it is quite good for bar food at places like this. Yes, the burger bun is too much bread (though quite tasty). Yes, the menu is pretty limited, but what's there is thoughtfully-prepared. The service staff is quite good. The crowd is one of the better crowds in Dallas if you like young, urban professionals. So, lay off the P. It didn't promise to be a great restaurant when you walked-in, shut up and have a shot. read more

I've lived in Dallas a long time and I have been to the Stoneleigh P a lot over the years. Many times I have gone I've had a great time. My last trip for lunch on a Saturday was a disaster. I met some friends from out of town and I was expecting a nice laid back lunch. Food and service were so bad it was comical. I am a super nice guy, work hard for my money, I have busted my ass working in restaurants... so to get major attitude from a waiter totally sucks. Then the food. The french fries must have been cooked hours before. Soaked in oil and cold, dreary and limp. The best thing about the hamburger was the bun and the garlic mayo. I don't know what the heck was going on with the burger meat. It seemed to have way too much Worcester sauce or something else really funky. So to make matters worse, I did something stupid. I left my credit card in the bill folder. I forgot to tip, sign and take my card... but my friends did take care of their tabs. I got distracted or something and made that mistake. I came back a couple hours later to see if it was still there. I was cool if they did not have it and I would just cancel it but the attitude when I asked about it was bizarre.. I was thinking they might have it in the register but they would not even look. Unfortunately, my waiter was gone and the bartender and other staff thought I had lost my mind when I asked about the card. When I told the bartender which waiter we had, he said "buddy you might want to cancel that card". I laughed and left. read more

A good place to hangout outside and have a beer when the weather is comfortable. The decor is quite relaxing and the staff is friendly. Others have said that the bar is loud, but seeing that I have only been on weekdays, that has never been a problem for me. The drinks are a litte pricey -- about $5 for a common draft beer on the weeknights -- which is my main impediment to coming back. Otherwise, I would love to visit this bar more often. read more

A great bar with great bartenders that are helpful, and fun. They pour well, and keep you entertained. The crowd is eclectic and a nice place in the Uptown near Downtown. It's nice to see the other side of things and get near the museums and see all that surrounds this neat area. Another one of my favourite places. This old place is still getting it done, and whenever I go to visit family back in Dallas I have to stop in. In fact, when I was on a round-the-world trip from my home in Sydney last year, I made it a point to meet old college pals here. I've had some pretty good times here. I started going when I lived in Dallas some years ago. Some friends of mine and I would sit on the patio on a sunny Sunday afternoon and have a few beers. Or we'd go after work for happy hour. I used to be such a usual that one waitress/bartender would swing round the table and drop off a shot of Patron for me, gratis. I always bitched about that, because let's face it -- if you're there at 6 p.m. on a Friday and you're planning to go out that night, you don't need to be doing shots of tequila 30 minutes into happy hour. But I didn't complain; I just took my medicine. Great burgers -- they're different than what you'll get elsewhere. Beware, though: no french fries, only potato chips. Good ones, though. read more

Hey everyone...been going to this bar for over 20 years...its become like an old shoe, comfortable--feels good for the soul. Its great going to a bar /grill that is classy in a non-upscale way. I go there ALOT for lunch....i order the chicken sandwich, their tomato salad (not on the menu anymore but its sliced roma tomatoes sitting on top of bed of spinach with an amazing balsamic shallot vinagrette poured on top of it. The xotillo soup is like a healthy tortilla or lime soup with chicken, vegetables, rice, avocados ...anytime im under the weather I get it....plus the godiva pie is outstanding! Its my favorite place in dallas to go for drinks....great pours for decent price. read more

I visited Stoneleigh P because it was near my hotel and I wanted soup. I had a bowl of gumbo (to-go). Very well seasoned, full of an assortment of meats, accompanied by white rice and yummy tortilla chips. It was less than $6 with tax. Definitely a neighborhood pub"ish" kind of place. But if I was in the area for some strange reason and wanted soup, I would return. read more

The food is pretty basic, but the porch and cocktails make it a safe bet for dinner and drinks with friends. It's a very casual place, but the old building gives SP enough character to keep it charming. Prices and service are fair, certainly good enough but not noteworthy. Don't stray far too from the burgers, and you'll be fine... For a place that's known for it's burgers, they do serve a pretty good burger. I'm not a fan of their pumpernickel buns, but the ciabatta buns are A-OK. Salads are good too - they've got a pretty killer Cobb-ish salad with chicken, avocados, and the rest of the kitchen sink in a bowl. I ventured down to the Mexican side of the menu a couple of times, with mixed results. Pulled pork tacos were quite tasty (and listed on the daily specials board). A later plate of beef enchiladas tasted about like the crap you might make at 2:30 in the morning - you know, making a mess of the kitchen, clogging the sink with the half-eaten slop, and invariably leaving the fridge door open. So, yeah. Stick to the sandwiches and salads. The building is cool, the patio is nice, and the location is good. However, the service can range from passable all the way down to rude, all from the same waitress - go figure. More than once, I've walked out after I got tired of waiting for her to stop at my table*. One time, the waitress made eye contact several times, noticed me, and gave the be-right-with-you Heisman about 5 times before I got tired of it and left. These were all instances where I walked in, sat down, and waited... sometimes for half an hour. Having said all that, I do enjoy eating a burger on their patio from time to time. I just wish it wasn't such a pain in the ass to do so sometimes. *No, I've never walked the check. read more

I had the privilege of taking my wife out for Valentine's Day lunch to the Stoneleigh P for my first time. She works nearby and suggested it. The wait staff is a little slow, but lunch time is a busy time for this restaurant. I had a bowl of gumbo and it was terrific. The wife tried a little of it and thought it was good as well. I then had the rancho grilled chicken sandwich, but the meat seemed a little dry and burned on the edges. The mayonnaise sauce that it came with was good. The wife had the mesquite smoked chicken sandwich with sliced avocado. Both sandwiches were good overall and she has liked this restaurant from past experiences. We will be back! read more

Not only were there two ants in my drink but my chicken from the Stoneleigh Cobb wasn't even cooked properly. When I accidentally dropped my phone I saw a few roaches on the ground near the kitchen. Then when I told management about my concerns I experienced racism and homophobia. I wouldn't even recommend this bar to my worst enemy... That's how bad my experience was. read more

When the girls and I feel like Slumminhg, This is the place to go. We enjoy dining Al Fresco at the great outside patio they have. Perfect place to watch the local denizens parade their pooches. Much to the chagrin of the owner-they always order the burger sans buns (They are on a low-carb diet). There seems to be some pushback against Bella & Cherie eating meat from The Stoneleigh P's prized heard. Also a little difficulty with them being seated inside-yes, they are not 21 yet. But hey, they're cute! The food is always great, I love the selection of beer, and the service is fantastic. They always accommodate the girls with special seating requirements and a fresh bowl of water to wash down their scrumptious meal. Been coming here for decades and can only say great things about them. They never disappoint and the ambience is always friendly and welcoming. read more

Walked in and walked out. Seemed like a dive bar with no redeeming qualities. This was really just a first impression walking through on a Wednesday after it had rained. Seems like I drove by about a week ago and the patio crowd seemed well-heeled. However when I walked through tonight (Wednesday evening) it had only stopped raining about an hour before. However, the bartender across the street did tell me that the Stoneleigh P has a rep as a dive bar so I'm guessing that my experience is inline with it's general reputation. If I go there again I'll post an update but I REALLY liked The Common Table down the street so I'm not sure if I'll be back. read more

Not only has this place served as a second home to my late auntie, but I have found it to become a living room full of colorful people of all walks of life with a few things in common: we all enjoy great (strong) drinks, delicious food (they can make anything you request except pizza), and friendly staff who serve (pun intended) as friends, too! First of all, I like their parking lot. It's a decent size and adjacent to the building. If you have lunch in the uptown area, you will understand the importance of good parking. Normally, I order the chicken sandwich, but today I tried the Stoneleigh burger and I'll admit it was pretty good. The atmosphere is a bit masculine and a bit outdated, but it doesn't seem to change the taste of the food. A good place to go when you are having a bad hair day. read more

On the recommendation of a friend, we stopped by Stoneleigh P for a beer late in an evening after a show downtown. They had talked about how it was a really laid-back and casual bar with great beer and great service. As to these claims: Laid-back: For the neighborhood, I'll absolutely give them that. It's not an uppity-uptown bar. Good job. However, the atmosphere was really ruined by way-too-loud music pumping through the speakers. The bar was maybe 1/3 full and I was shouting across a table just to be heard by my wife. If they'd turn the music down by about half, this bar could have great potential as a "laid-back" bar. Great beer: They had a good selection on draft, I'll give them that. Didn't amaze me, but it was a good selection. Mostly all locals, which was good to see in a city that has a great local beer scene. Served well too, right temperature. Each of our pints was $6, which is a wee on the high side for what we ordered (a Community and a Revolver), but not bad. Great service: I can definitely see this. The server we had was very friendly, very knowledgeable on beer, and attentive. Had the list of beers on tap memorized well. We didn't sit at the bar but I can definitely imagine that the other reviewers are right in their assessment of how good they are. Overall, it's not a bad bar by any stretch, but how incredibly loud it was in there was a real turn-off. Personally, I'm bumping my star up a notch because what I liked about it was what most negative reviewers don't: it is a "very laid back" place in an uptight neighborhood, where the DB factor can be quite high. A refreshingly nostalgic space in an old pharmacy, good liquor selection, mediocre wines, but great front patio, which is dog friendly - bonus points. Sweet pool table too. Cute servers. The perfect alter-ego - yet complimentary to - The Stoneleigh Hotel across the street. It wasn't packed on a temperate Saturday night, but those that were there were kindof multi-generational preps, perhaps with a bit of attitude, but it was in check. I liked it. read more

Over the years I have been to the Stoneleigh P and always thought it was funny that they don't serve ketchup (not a big deal for me because I don't like ketchup). Last night a couple of friends invited there for dinner. I had the chef salad and I guess I realized something was off with the dressing, but assumed it was just me and kept eating. Around ten I got sick to my stomach and didn't get relief until around three AM. I am pretty convinced it was the salad. Anyway, if it wasn't the salad the salad pretty much sucked. I won't be going back. On the other hand the waitstaff was really nice and polite. read more

Hard to enjoy a night out with coworkers and friends when one of the blind-drunk regulars pushes you and then threatens to sexually assault another member of our group. The bartender came over to "calm down" the regular and then brought him back to the bar (and apparently continued to serve him more alcohol) rather than kick him out. I'm going to be pretty partial to Stoneleigh P after my trip there Saturday night. The bartender in all his glory decided to give us our drinks for free. For FREE! We had been at the Stoneleigh hotel for a wedding and decided to grab a post-reception drink before calling it a night (actually, we ended up BACK at the hotel bar for a nightcap because we're lushes who don't have an off switch). We quickly grabbed a couple tables on the patio and I was surprised the place was so dead considering it was around 11 PM. We didn't have any issues with getting our drinks or with any sort of bad service, but for some reason or another the drinking gods were smiling on us and deemed us worthy of the elusive free tab. After a couple rounds, my roommate went to go close up shop and the bartender pulled the receipt, gave it a quick look, tore it up and said "Don't worry about it, you guys were cool." I'm not sure what my roommate or anyone else did to this guy to make him like us as much as he did, but bravo team. . .bravo. I liked the patio and I think we'll be coming back soon to give the food a whirl. Hopefully it won't ruin what was a pretty awesome first trip. read more

I've driven by for many years and never knew what a great spot I was missing out on. This is now one of my new Dallas favorites. Drinks and bar food are very affordable. Free parking and a great pet friendly patio make this a more desirable spot for me. Never crowded and has plenty of room for groups of friends. I am with Brad H.'s review. This place is not too bad for a Dallas "institution", but it really does depend on the night you are there and the crowd you must endure. I do like the pumpernickel buns on the burgers, but that's not any reason to go to a place. If I am in "uptown", it's one of the few places I don't mind going to, so long as the post wedding crowd has not taken over the place. It is not really an "uptown" feel inside. I did like the honesty of one of the bartenders who was acting as a server this past Saturday night. His brutally honest reviews of their wines was quite helpful. I stuck to beer! read more

WHY DID I TRY THE GUMBO? well, because it was called Swamp Mama Gumbo. it sounded authentic. NOT!
