This place is amazing. We came in from Miami, Florida, and our very first stop in Weaverville was this restaurant--and it did not disappoint. Our server recommended the Twisted Philly Steak Sub and the Fat Jake's Chicken Ranch Sub, and they were hands down some of the best food we've ever had. The service was impeccable, the food came out fast, and everything was delicious from start to finish--we honestly didn't want it to end. We loved the experience so much that we came back one more time before heading home, and our server Tatiana was fantastic. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming. Hometown favorite! Per usual had the big chef salad as an appetizer for my boyfriend and I. Ordered drinks first. We DO NOT like to be rushed and unfortunately our waitress just kept interrupting our conversation and asking us to order. It was a Sunday afternoon and it was NOT super busy. Nobody was waiting for a table. This is why we have stopped coming here as much as we used to. So I had the cheese ravioli for my main- was really rushed into that decision and my boyfriend had the Reuben with fries... he was told that she would have to check with the kitchen AFTER she said that a special was shrimp and grits!!!! We were in the area for my niece's wedding. Some of us went downtown for the arts and crafts show on Main Street. We happened along this place and surprisingly got a table right away. I liked their eclectic menu. I ordered the traditional Greek Platter with lamb. It was great! The others all raved about their food, especially the ones who ordered the Chicken Salad Croissant. Meh, at best. Great ambience and great service. My pecan crusted trout was, well, tasteless and accompanied by "risotto" that looked like mashed potatoes and tasted like heavily salted paste. My wife's BBQ ribs and baked beans were better tasting; but, if you add enough sugar anything tastes good. She couldn't stomach the cole slaw and stopped me from even tasting it. We were surprised by our experience given the great reviews which motivated us to try it out to begin with. I was in town for a group dinner before staying on a worksite for a few days. I was a bit blown away by the tucked in back space that was plenty of room for me and the group. The server was attentive and recommended a tasty Raptor Juice beer, a local brew. My main entree was Chicken Alfredo with a side Greek salad which was probably top 3 best Greek dressings I've had. We ate here on a Saturday night as a very large group (16 with 5 kids) and we had made a reservation for 6pm. Honestly we were off to a rough start when somehow the system didn't have our reservation despite us having the email saying we were confirmed and we weren't sure if we were going to be able to have a table, BUT they told us they would def seat us. We did have to wait about 15-20 minutes because they were very busy, but we did get a large table for everyone. Our waitress was very nice and had chill vibes in the best way. They made up for the mix up by giving us a few free appetizers and comping our kid's meals. We were not expecting this and it was a very pleasant surprise. The drinks were good and the food was great too. The food came out hot (it did take about 40 minutes to come out tho) and other than a mix up of chips on my plate instead of sweet potato fries (which they quickly and easily fixed) all the food was exactly how we ordered it. I got the philly cheese steak and the bread was so soft! The sweet potato fries were awesome! We got kids pizza and they destroyed it. I wasn't a huge fan of the garlic mashed potatoes, but that may be just me. I also got the chocolate cake to go and I WISH I HAD GOT 2 slices. It was sooooo good. Picked up from this local spot for a night in. The only decent item was the pizza, which was a solid combination of flavor. The spaghetti and meatballs were basically noodles drenched in tomato paste; not much flavor at all and the meatballs were quite dull. The garlic bread was fine but my daughter equated it to the garlic bread she had back in elementary school. The salads were fine, we did like the house Greek vinaigrette but there wasn't much to the rest of the salad. The traditional Greek platter was a disappointment, not much there (just look at the picture). I was expecting more; maybe some hummus, maybe some olives but no, it was just gyro meat and a pita. The meat had flavor and it was better than it looked but it did not look good. Full disclosure: we got our food to go, not sure what it's like at the restaurant. Service was great. Second time here. First time I got the Philly Cheese Steak ..pretty good in regards to most of the catastrophic Southern attempts I've had over 35 years since moving from PA. Skip the mayo of course ..there's no mayo, lettuce, tomato, etc on a Philly. This time I decided to try their pizza. I got the large Supreme ($19.50). It was your typical doughy pie . Good quality toppings but I wish they had sliced sausage instead of ground..rare these days...but Blue Mountain just up the street does use sliced sausage !. Plenty big enough for two people to share. I give it an 8 ...way better than Mellow Mushroom but not NY style or artisan level in any way. Now for the WARNING! portion of my review : the beer. They had a paper menu for their brews . They list the funky names and their alcohol content and price. What they don't list is the SIZE. I ordered the AreYouABigEnoughBoy draft for $6 dollars expecting a full beer and what I got was this Optical Illusion glass (pictured) that "supposedly" contained 10 ounces of beer. Pretty sure it was more like 8-9 ounces at best. Not only did the glass have an inch of glass at the base it also had an inner rim going up a good 3 inches from the bottom to take up even more space. They need to nip this shit in bud (add Barney Fife voice here). If you're going to play these games then at least list the ounces on your paper menu so we can make an informed choice. After I drank my first tiny beer I looked up the beer menu on their website which actually contained ounce info and ordered a full beer called White Zombie. Again..I like this restaurant...but be upfront on your beer servings/cost. read more

Upon arrival, we were disappointed to observe that the hostess and servers were dressed in mismatched, worn attire. While we understand that establishments often prioritize employee comfort, the appearance of the staff fell short of expectations looking as if they had just gotten out of bed. The server who took our order, a young woman with tattoos and a nose ring, did so without greeting us or offering a smile. Okay, it's the new generation. We proceeded to order the bison burger with sweet potato fries. Unfortunately, the patty lacked flavor despite its generous portion size, and the fries were undercooked, lacking the desired crispiness. The bun had a greasy substance applied to it and was so overly greasy, which required us to frequently wipe our hands. Furthermore, our booth's upholstery was worn, and the table was so unstable that we feared spills would occur. My husband and I were hungry on a Saturday afternoon during a summer trip to Asheville, and with some dinner reservations later that evening, we knew we wanted something tasty but not too filling. Enter Twisted Laurel - a solid lunch option in adorable Weaverville. We were seated right away, and opted for sodas instead of alcohol because of the time of day, while noting their extensive beer selection. We both ordered from the Handhelds section of the menu - I went with the Turkey Brie on a croissant, and my husband ordered the Gyro. My sandwich was phenomenal! The mix of sweet (apples and cranberry mayo) and salty (brie and bacon) made for a delicious lunch, with each bite just a little different from the last. My side salad was a little meh ... but I appreciate the offer of something a little healthier. My husband didn't dislike his sandwich, and finished most of it, but made a comment that the meat could use a little more seasoning. The fries, on the other hand, were seasoned perfectly - and I stole more than a few from his plate. We don't typically order dessert with lunch ... but Twisted Laurel had several delicious sounding options. We ended up ordering a the Baklava, expecting a small slice. Instead, we were surprised with a HUGE piece of perfectly cooked, sticky and flakey Baklava, and we almost licked the plate clean. The prices weren't bad at all, and although the service was a little slow, our waitress seemed to be juggling a lot, so we gave her the benefit of the doubt. First, thank you for letting me get brunch even though I was 3 minutes late. If it was McDonald's, I would've been out of luck. My server was awesome. Very attentive. Very friendly. She is definitely an all-star. The atmosphere is nice. It can get rather loud because the walls echo the noise. But overall, it is a nice place to enjoy a meal. The food was good. I got the chicken and waffle. The waffle was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Great job. The butter was whipped. It was also plentiful. There is no need to ask for more. The syrup had a smokey flavor and smell. I ordered spicy syrup, but I didn't find it spicy at all. Now to the chicken. My only 4 star chicken. The coating was non-existent. It didn't protect the chicken breast from the fryer oil, and it resulted in a dry jerky chicken breast. Check out the picture, and you'll see what I mean. It was a decent meal. I'll be back again. I want to give this place more stars, I really do. But I was pushed through in 25 minutes. To be fair, I was a 1 top, but I did get an app (Caesar salad) and an entree (pecan crusted trout). The trout came with asparagus and risotto. The risotto and trout were fairly bland tasting, but the positive is they included a lemon wedge and salt/pepper from the table made it pretty alright. Service was good, just rushed. It has a great feel and look inside; I could see it being a great local dive. I'm not writing it off by any means. Some of the other food looked really good! Place feels like a hometown version of a rock & brews or TGI Friday's dye to a menu with no real cohesiveness. But this is not necessarily bad, actually it could be seen ad the opposite when you have a large party of people who can't make uo their minds on where to go eat. Firecracker Shrimp- These are not the small lightly fried popcorn style shrink tossed jn a spicy Mayo type sauce you might find at a Darden kind of restaurant. These are large, sauced, thickly breaded shrimp served on greens with crunchy wontons. Theses did, however, go over well across the table, although there were only a maybe 8 in the order. Chicken Parm- Another Darden style mediocre dish. Overcooked breaded chicken and basic restaurant style spaghetti with what I imagine was tweaked can tomato sauce. Looked better than it tasted for sure. Wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. Served with what I imagine is store brand Texas toast. Cheesecake- Advertised as New York with a Tennessee twist. After spending the day driving from MD, we stopped at the Twisted Laurel as soon as we arrived in town. This place is definitely eccentric but we had fun checking out all the decor. Our server was nice and helped us pick a few items to share. I really wanted to try the duck rolls as I love duck. They were probably my favorite thing I ate. While I thought the scallops/pork belly dish was good, I thought there was too much sauce. Either too many different sauces or just too much of each. I really enjoyed it when I didn't get all the sauce. The lamb tacos were good. Would have liked crumbled feta though instead of just one big piece. If you're looking for different food, I'd definitely try this place. I'd eat here again. read more
