By far one for the best chill bars I've ever been to in DC. Shanika is the best bartender ever.

I am actually quite impressed by the menu at Stoney's, which is lengthy in a Chinese-restaurant kind of way, but well-diversified (as in, there aren't eight different ways they serve spicy beef). Typical American-bistro/pub style food, but the quality and prices are good. I was charmed by the special of the evening, which was a rockfish sandwich. It was a very sizable portion of fish (5 or 6 ounces), but quite fishy-smelling. I do not have a problem with this, but others may. Just saying. If you're a fan of cole slaw, the slaw here is top-notch. Thin and crunchy, more vinegar-y than most other places. This is not slaw that's been swimming in mayo under a heat lamp. Solid beers on tap, but nothing too crazy or unique. The upstairs lounge is nice when you need to get away from the crowds downstairs (and it can get pretty loud and busy on the weekends). The service is never surly or brusque, but it is quick and to-the-point. No idle chit chat here, which you may find either efficient or rude, YMMV. The only reason I don't give more stars is because I inevitably wind up here after I've already been out for a while. It's the tiredness and alcohol that makes things start to sag, not Stoney's itself. read more

Definitely my "go-to" bar in DC. The fact that I live a few blocks away was the factor that originally got me in the door, but I continue to go for the food, cheap beer, and overall (as close to dive you can get in Logan) atmosphere. It always feels welcoming, whether at 6pm on a Wednesday or 1am Saturday. Service is ehh, but that clearly doesn't seem to be a priority and at the same time nobody really seems to care anyway. I have only eaten one thing on the menu here, and I never will try anything else. If I am coming to Stoney's, I am coming for the grilled cheese. Unlike some of those fancy grilled cheese places that have opened up over the years, this sticks to the basics. Thick cut bread, simple american cheese, and butter. Lots of cheese and lots of butter. The best day to come is half-priced Thursday, where I can gorge myself on grilled cheese, french fries, and lots and lots of pickles. Heaven. Buttery, oozy, cheesy. I have heard the "wonders of Stoney's grilled cheeses" but my oh my, the tales are TRUE! On a rainy monday night, a friend and I sought refuge at the bar. Bartender was very nice and hit all points of service. We ordered a round of beers, salad app and I went for the classic grilled cheese with added tomato that made Stoney's #famous. Shortly after our order, out came our salads and grilled cheese with fries. Salad was great and refreshing with fresh crunchy vegetables and a tasty dressing. Grilled cheese sandwich comes on THICK garlic roasted texas toast with oozing cheese and tomato. Delish! Fries were thick cut and great with salt. Bar is chill and laidback attracting many locals watching games on tvs everywhere you looked. Great service, amazing grilled cheese/late night eats, and tvs all around. Its Sunday, late night, gotta catch the last Metro train, hungry, where to go for take out? Did a yelp search and found Stoney's. I am so happy I did. The grilled cheese was soooooo good. I am looking at the reviews on the side panel as I am writing this and they ALL mention how good the grilled cheese is. I had no idea what they had when I came here. I was just hungry. It looks like I ordered the right item. Also, the fries arent too shabby either. As I was waiting for my food I realized I miscalculated the time of the last train. Since it looked like I would be taking a taxi home I figured I would hang out for awhile and sat at the bar to eat my food and had a couple of beers. Plus they had Shark Week on the TV. How awesome is that! The bar tender Phil was super down to earth and overall a nice guy. Were both in grad school, fairly new to DC and he's been all over the world so we had alot to chat about. A very cool guy. The overall vibe of the bar was cool too. No attitudes, no pretentious folk,and not overrun with hipsters. Just a good variety of "normal" chill people hanging out. If I lived in the area this would definitely be my go to chill spot. read more

Stoney's is solid. Reasonably good selection of beers, decent bar food - burgers, grilled cheese (mmmmm), onion rings, fries, etc. It's your basic college dive bar, but add 10 years to the average age of its patrons. It's not too noisy, not too quiet, not too dirty, but also not that clean. read more

As a casual place to go and have drinks, eat some bar food and meet friends, Stoney's is great. It's definitely one of the best in this category in the Logan Circle area (although Churchkey is better). However, if you're going for dinner, you'd be much happier going to Logan Tavern or even Commissary next door, where the food variety is better and the actual food more tasty. The best choices here are the chicken sandwiches. The buffalo chicken and barbecue are my favorite. They're flavorful, just spicy enough and not too dry. Steer clear of the "famous" grilled cheese, or it's close relative, the hot ham and cheese. The sandwich comes on Texas toast and the butter on mine had soaked at least 1/2 inch deep on either side of bread. I felt like I was eating a melted stick of butter. The first few bites were good, the second few were mediocre, and eventually I pushed it to the side of my plate and seriously thought I was going to throw it up. Stoney's is a nice place to have in the neighborhood, and has some decent food options, but is much better for drinking that eating. read more

Kind of a non-descript bar on P street across from Whole Foods. It feels a little bit less pretentious than Logan Tavern or some of the other places. The beer menu is kind of the bare minimum for a DC bar these days (craftish without being exciting) but they have decent happy hour specials. Service is slow, but they don't harass you if you want to sit with your friends for a while. None of the food I've seen has inspired me to order any myself. They have a couple of outdoor tables on the front sidewalk but its a prime location for pan handling. read more

I am always disappointed with cheeseburgers. There are tons of potential shortfalls in the world of burgers: overcooking meat (should be considered a sin), pathetic patty, soggy bread, etc. To go further- while I love beef, cheese and bacon all respectively- I am usually not a bacon cheeseburger fan- the bacon overwhelm the burger. So frankly the other night when craving a cheeseburger I wasn't quite sure where I wanted to go... There were a lot of place I could have picked and THANK GOD we went to Stoney's. I know they are famous for their grilled cheese and fries (which is are in fact amazing). But I was ready to move on to their burger. Let me tell you that I will be going back there asap. The bun was perfect, crispy as it should be on top, soft inside, sturdy enough to handle the massive sandwich. The patty (ordered rare/med rare) was more on the medium rare side but that was ok. It was juicy and perfect. Cheese to bacon ratio spot on. Last night fell within one of the top three burgers of my life (big statement). My advice- order it on the rare side and consider an extra order of fries for the table. It will help you avoid smacking your friends hands as they reach to snag your fries. AMAZING! read more

I've been to Stoney's often but it was never to eat. Recently, I went in for the sole intention to try the Super Grilled Cheeseburger and boy was it something! It was everything I was hoping it would be. It comprised of the following ingredients and in this order: bread, cheese, onions, beef patty, cheese, bread, bacon, tomatoes, cheese, and bread. I ordered mine without the tomatoes, which was a good choice. The monster of a sandwich was served with a side of fries. Unfortunately for all, this was only an April special and is not served throughout the year. This is your average neighborhood bar and grill. If you live in the area you probably love the place but if you are coming by to grab a burger or their "famous" grilled cheese do not have high expectations. The service was good, food tasted great, and location is perfect to continue on with your night after a tasty meal. Here are my disapointments: The place is narrow. The bar is small. There are not that many TVs. Feels old/cafeteria-like. As another Yelper mentioned, with so many good food and drink options in Washington DC these regular old sports bars don't really cut it when there are so many new, modern places opening up all around. I seem sort of spoiled or prissy by saying that but see for yourself. Id visit again during happy hour but unless someone else is picking up my tab i will be grabbing food elsewhere. Stoney's is a throwback. A non-pretentious pub in D.C. I'll take it! Found directly across from the Whole Foods on P, Stoney's offers cheap eats and drinks. Good burgers, a delicious grilled cheese, and some surprisingly good pizza; Stoney's has definitely come through for several late night grubfests. They just started doing the Wednesday night trivia, which is a neighborhood rarity. Head upstairs and ask for Geoff, the bartender. He'll top you off...over and over again. When you're sitting in Stoney's, sometimes you don't even realize you're in D.C. That can be a welcome change of pace. read more

I've only been to Stoney's once, but it was a markably pleasant encounter. First of all, let's marvel and laugh at the name Stoney's. Perf. Anyway, on to the review, this place has got the perfect balance of chill yet not totally dead. My friend and I went in here hungry and looking for some decently priced beer when we were waiting around for a friend and Stoney's took us in right away. It's a cute little bar, you know the kind. Comfortable, full of regulars, the occasional "intellectual" dude reading a book in the back, friendly bartenders. I got one of the burgers, can't remember which, that was more than decent, and my friend got the quesadillas, which he describes as "a six out of ten." Not great, but definitely not bad for bar food. The beer prices were pretty reasonable too, and I noticed that they had some great happy hour specials. Also they brew their own beer, pretty good and relatively cheap. Definitely recommend it if you're in the area and looking for a low key bar. read more

What's the point of having so many microbrews if your happy hour specials are just on macro beers. I'd rather get $1 off an $8 Natty Greene IPA than pay $3 for a Bud Light. Just sayin.... Walking from the bus station to my friend's place at the start of my trip to D.C., she suggested we stop for dinner at Stoney's, which she described as "a dive bar with good food." There are few combinations of words that would get me more interested in going to an eating establishment. Specific references to bacon, steak and/or potentially inappropriately dressed women are the only better things I can think of off the top of my head. We got there and grabbed a table right by the door. There's a small outdoor area if outside is your thing. Let's separate the two descriptive phrases used by my friend to describe Stoney's: 1. A dive bar - Maybe for this area of D.C., Stoney's is a dive bar. Not to a guy that used to live on a steady diet of The Village Idiot, Yogi's and Red Roch West. But it is a very cool, laid back bar. I liked the vibe. 2. With good food - On this my friend and I agree. We split an order of sliders to start, 4 decently sized tasty burgers with some fries as well. They served the burger with salsa, which is obviously a little unusual but it worked. For dinner I had the chicken reuben, mostly because I had heard of reuben reubens and turkey reubens, but never chicken. It was a little hard to eat but it was good. Overall it's your typical laid back bar. Service was a little spotty, but nothing worth complaining about. Lots of beer selection, TVs and decent food. Stoneys is a fantastic DC bar. I've visited twice, and each time ordered the wings. They are the most delicious wings that I've ever had in my entire life. They don't give you the option of mild or hot or any other flavor, like at other restaurants. They're just...wings. They definitely are hot, though, and are served with bleu cheese, so if you want ranch, you have to ask. I've told many people to go, just for the wings. I've also had the Super Grilled Cheese, which has not only a plentiful amount of cheese, but also bacon, tomato, and onion on it. Absolutely delicious. 3.5 stars sounds about right. I would say this is a good place to end your night. It's really nothing special but it is a good place to just chill after a night of boozing. The grilled cheese is pretty tasty, although I would say it's more of a full on sandwich than a grilled cheese (comes with bacon, tomato, onion), not that there's anything wrong with that. They also have a pretty solid beer selection. Major plus points for having Long Trail Ale, minus points for replacing Bell's Oberon with a porter. That made me kind of sad. Also, avoid their Stoney's Amber Ale. I love amber ales but this just didn't really have much taste. read more

I was in the area a little too early for a happy hour meetup and needed somewhere to kill time. This seemed to be the only bar place in the immediate vicinity that was open. I'm glad I stopped by because I found the bartender to be very friendly, their beer list was solid, not fantastic, but did have some good choices, and it had a very home-y neighborhood feel. Lots of the patrons seemed to be regulars and there were people just there at the bar to have a beer and read a book in a relaxed setting. Kind of like me! I sat back, relaxed, watched some of the soccer game on the TV and tried their special cask ale, which was very tasty. I did look at the menu - I was thinking of getting something simple and small that I could have as a quick snack before I had to leave. Unfortunately I didn't see any kind of snack things that looked to me and the menu was in general very bland and underwhelming. So I would not recommend coming here if eating is the primary activity you want to partake in. Next time I am in this area and have to wait, which actually seems to happen fairly frequently, I'm glad there is a nice chill bar that I can sit at and enjoy some slow time. I went here with my alumni group for trivia night. They had pretty good happy hour drinks and food. I had the super grilled cheese and I have to say that it does not disappoint! The buttery bread was grilled just right with the amazing fixings inside. They have the new Belgium white IPA, which is definitely a favorite of mine. When we went, there was a private party upstairs in one section. I don't like that we had to go all the way downstairs for a beer, when there was a bar right there. I came here a week ago and sat in the back of the first floor of this bar with my boyfriend and a group of other guys on a Saturday night. This was great as it allowed everyone to chat without being overpowered by those standing near the bar and entrance. I don't usually drink alcohol and didn't eat that night, but the waitress was polite, patient, and courteous with all of us, refilling our waters and checking in every so often to take new beer orders. It seemed like a good selection of beers for the guys, and everyone had a great time. read more

We came to Stoney's on a friend's recommendation. The bartender was friendly when we walked in. The food was standard American fare, prepared decently. At our table, we ate Reubens and Grilled Cheese. We also had tomato soup. All was tasty, but nothing to write home about. The service, however, was pretty bad. The server was dismissive, and almost threw our food/drinks/silverware at us. No words, just tossed them and walked away which was bizarre. Broc-style chicken tenders and Fish-n-Chips are excellent but the bar layout leaves some customers out to dry, especially the ones toward the long end by the kitchen. The food is better than most in the area. Could be a top-notch place if staff were friendlier and more attentive. They tend to just pass you by even when the place is not that busy. read more

After having dinner at Logan Tavern a few doors down we decided to step into Stoney's based on a recommendation from an employee at the hotel we were staying at. It really is a dive bar, which I didn't mind one bit. I also liked the $3 Bud Light special during the Nats game. What I didn't like was paying $7 for a pint of beer, another $3 for a Bud Light and then be completely ignored. Maybe it was because we only stopped in to have a drink and not eat? We were ready to go, but no sign of a waiter to be had so we drop some cash with the bartender and bounce out of there. read more

Huge roach crawled up the wall above my daughters head. Was on a wall where the staff stored the water glasses coffee and soft drinks. When we informed the staff of the roach, they replied with " get the broom for this one". A man from the kitchen chased the roach down the wall with a broom and proceeded to beat it with the broom next to my table. We had just finished our meal or else I would have walked right out. The waiter handed my a check like it never happened. I complained twice to the waiter and the manager who tried to tell me it was a beetle. Don't eat here. I'm calling the board of health. The staff did not seemed phased by the episode in the least. I'd give it zero stars but the review won't let me. The way the staff handled this was beyond unacceptable. read more

Stoney's has done a great job reinventing itself from downtown dive bar to yuppie neighborhood bar. SUCCESS! I love being a regular here. Since DC lacks any decent diners (with a dismissive nod to The Diner and Steak and Egg), the cravings can sometimes be filled by bars with good food, of which Stoney's is the leader of the pack. I'm giving Stoney's 3 stars. I've eaten here once before a few years ago with friends and it was better. The bartender took forever to acknowledge me and when she did, she was doing other things while I ordered and not paying much attention which drives me crazy. (Hence the wrong salad dressing) The bbq chicken sandwich was dry but the bbq sauce on top was good. The fries were great. The side-salad was lettuce, 2 slices of green pepper, lots of red onion and olives. I don't like olives or green pepper and it came with the wrong dressing. So- I paid $5.95 for lettuce and a few slices of red onion. sidebar- the chef salad that I saw at another table looked hearty and really good and was only a few dollars more. Next time, I get a entree salad... Overall, I left paying $24 with tip for a dry chicken sandwich, a bowl of lettuce, and a diet coke. I think the overall atmosphere at Stoney's is good so I won't be afraid to go again, but hopefully the service will be better and I'll know what not to order. Breakfast pizza: dough + ham + cheese + fried egg = much happiness (add some hot sauce to make that happiness seemingly endless). This was our second visit to Stoney's. There food is great for the price. Nice portion sizes; great selection; lots of flavor. Service was nothing to brag about (both visits). But, the servers weren't slowing us down, either. I think I've been hungover on both visits, so I haven't tried any alcoholic drinks :(. read more
