I went on to check it out because I needed a little somethin' somethin', and more than a decade later, I've been here at least twenty times and have even used its DriveUp & Go services a couple of times. For a suburban Safeway, it's on the smaller side, but it isn't small. The selection is very good for the size of the store. The parking lot can be a mess, but it's shared with other businesses, so that's not really Safeway's fault. The most annoying part of the store is familiar to supermarket goers everywhere: There's not enough room between the checkout stands and the aisles themselves, so while you're waiting to check out, you're blocking people who are trying to zigzag their way through all the aisles. But why am I focusing on the negative? The people who work here are always nice, and they always have everything I need. I often come here before I go to Costanoa; and the first time that happened, I picked up a very reliable, affordable, and lightweight flashlight from here. I've since bought at least five more flashlights from that company, although I haven't seen them here (I ordered the rest from the company website) since that first time. It can feel like a trek getting here, but I had this entire ritualized pattern that is now slightly altered because of a certain restaurant's lack of pinball machines. You probably don't know what I'm talking about, and that's fine. Oh, and when my friend Dan lived near here, which wasn't for very long, we came to stock up on pretzels and carrots before a night of Wiz-War, and I was shocked that it was the UPS Store Safeway, as I think of it--sort of. There might be another Safeway farther down Homestead Road, and that store isn't as good. I think/believe this because GPS once led me to a different Safeway, even though I had punched in Homestead Road. Speaking of the roads around here, the blocks are ridiculously long in this part of Santa Clara, so if you miss the parking lot, don't do the San Francisco right-right-right move. Just make a U-turn. I'm normally a right-right-right guy, but if you do that here, it will take you forever.

The store was clean, fully stocked, and the employees were friendly and helpful. Prices matched those at other Walmart locations. Parking was easy to find in the spacious, private parking lot, and the store is conveniently located just off the US 101 freeway.

Sometimes the things in life that you travel far & wide to find is merely next to you. I swear,…read moreit's been years since I drive to a Walmart store to buy something, the full Walmart store is about 8-10 miles drive away, so it's never the first option I'd opt for when shopping. It was on a recent accidental trip that I found myself at this Santa Clara Walmart Neighborhood Market. It essentially is a larger size version of your typical supermarkets like Safeway or Lucky, except it's a lot more spacious & carry more grocery options. Due to its warehouse-like operation, the prices are slightly more affordable in general than those aforementioned stores; especially when things go on sales. For example, I scored a dozen maple glazed donuts for $4.69 (normally, $6.99, Dunkin or Krispy would have been more than $15. And if you take the time to look through each aisle, you may notice that they have some red stickers with significant markdowns, for example, a 10oz brown gravy mix normally $0.99-$1.39 elsewhere, it was $0.32, I got a whole bunch, it's perfect for my Canadian soul food - le Poutine, it works really well! And yes, the staff can be a hit or miss, depending on who you ask, but in general, they are pretty helpful, I never had problems. If there's a minor complaint, it's that you need the physical credit card to self-checkout, no GooglePay or Apple pay, etc, that's kind of pain in the you-know-where, but when I get my groceries with low prices, I'm really OK! In summary, it's been such a long time, I completely forgot that there's this Walmart Neighborhood Market within 2 miles of where I live. With dollar stores no longer offer DOLLAR items, some raised to $1.25, $3 - $5 in certain freezer items. it makes more sense to just drive here where they offer more choices at equal or better prices.

They had the usual array of nonstick pots, which don't work very well for me. They had a small but useful section for clay pots. I thought Amazon and AliExpress had overpriced clay pots, but I was wrong. These prices were significantly higher. I can only hope these are the best of the best. Checking up on 99 Ranch, I couldn't even find clay pots in there more limited kitchen utensil section. I ran across one item where knockoffs are ubiquitous. They've completely flooded AliExpress and you have to watch it with Amazon. Hankook had the authentic item and at significantly lower price than both Amazon and Aldi express. I found a tea section to be well stocked. I also recognize some of the tea brands. 99 Ranch has gone with lower cost options, but if you buy 6 ounces of tea, are you gonna be stuck with an enormous supply. Better to go with reliable brands that I have enjoyed in the past. I loved the produce section. It was nice and fresh. It also had wider selection of produce than other supermarkets. The store itself is stunning. The the aisles are spacious. The store is meticulously clean. The shelves are fully stocked. There were only about two items which were shopped out. The snack area and the frozen foods were even more interesting. It's obvious in those two sections that there were many more Korean brands. I should've tried some, but it's hard for me to resist snacks and there was a good chance that would finish the entire bag in one go. Better to skip it entirely. The parking lot for the supermarket is spacious. I had no trouble finding a spot even though I arrived in the late afternoon when everybody has gotten off work. I live about two hours away. And I am very jealous because there is no Hankook near me.

We have purchased a wok from here, twice, and they were reasonably priced (around $35 if I recall), and we got a spare lid for a reasonable price as well. They always have inexpensive produce, lots of fresh stuff. I got a bag of bok choy for $2. I think if you are looking for Asian produce, a great place to shop. They also have a lot of prepared foods, snack foods, etc. Everything is reasonably priced. They do have a large enough parking lot, and usually we park on the side to avoid the chaos.

Everything is made fresh to order, and you can really taste the quality in every dish. I especially loved the grilled meats -- they had that perfect smoky char flavor straight from the grill. The staff were incredibly friendly and took the time to explain the different dishes and the best way to enjoy them. Beef, Kofta & Chicken: Super flavorful and packed with spices, with an amazing grilled/charred flavor. I loved being able to build my own wrap with all the different veggies and sauces! Hawawshi Traditional (Egyptian Meat Pie): Similar to arayes, but even more flavorful and juicy. It comes generously stuffed, and the arugula paired perfectly with it. Chicken Breast Bowl: OMG, the fries were so good! The chicken and fries combo worked perfectly together. The chicken had subtle hints of lime and was served over a creamy mayo-style sauce that tied everything together. Salad: Light, refreshing, and topped with onions, pickled veggies, fruit, and vinaigrette. Overall, it's such a fun and casual place to hang out. There's an outdoor patio with self-serve tea and water, and I loved the cozy lights and tent setup. I'll definitely be back!
