I just rented a space today with StorageMart. The manager Tysean was really helpful and friendly. She answered all my questions thoroughly. She even let me change my space mid contract when she informed me that there was a space that was more suited to my needs. The space itself is a little old and aged, but as long as there are no leaks all will be well, it doesn't have to be beautiful, it's just a storage space. I will update after move in. I just moved my stuff out of here and only give it one star because the staff were nice. But I've only rented a storage space for the past 4 months. I went on a couple of days ago to open the door to the smell of mold. Just to find out the roof is leaking. So I mentioned it to yunos who told me to go and find the maintenance man and he would patch the ceiling. First it's not my job to track down the maintenance man and if the roof is leaking what's a ceiling patch going to do for me. So I decided I'm getting my stuff out. Only to find out there is black mold everywhere as well as boxes chewed up from rats and things are just ruined. But apparently they have no responsibility. But I can file a claim with my renters insurance. But of course that's means I have to pay the deductible. So if you chose to rent know you might be risking your stuff. read more

For the past 10 years my girlfriend has rented storage space with this business. Recently we moved her out of an apartment and placed nearly all of her posessions in storage . furniture electronics clothing pots pans tools everything she owned. Two months ago we where contacted by a Storage Mart employee who simply said the unit was broken into and provided a photo of the trashed remains that were left. we live out of town now and had difficulty communicating with management. Naturally we inquired about security cameras but were informed they were not installed in our area of the building. Our losses were in the thousands an we had purchased additional insurance. But found they cap losses at 2,500. However that didnt matter either since they denied our claim. Good luck to you! read more

October 2012 is when I signed my lease with them. Sebastian was very helpful and showed me a couple different units as I wasn't 100% on what size unit I would need. Long story short I used them for over a year and finally moved everything out. I have to say that for the most part this is an ideal place to store your things. But communication if you have two names on your lease sucks the big one. Even longer story short they have carts to use to move things in and out, freight elevators and stairs. And sometimes a confusing map of units to wander though in order to find your unit. read more

These guys are great. I got screwed by UPS Freight services, but thankfully StorageMart accepted the delivery and was able to keep it until I got there. Very friendly and really try to help out. read more

Pros; Looks like a nice place People there are nice Cons; Elevator has been busted for at least 3 months. That sucks esp if you have to move heavy stuff. There's a fire escape but it's bolted shut. Restroom is out of order forever. read more

The manager that was on duty when I moved into this unit went above and beyond to accommodate me. I moved in later in the day and didn't reserve a big enough unit for all my stuff. She helped me get into a different unit that was larger and stayed late to allow me to finish moving in. Their units are some of the most affordable in the area. read more

I came here to pick up and return my u-haul since Berkeley doesn't have a u-haul store. When we got there they were very nice, but when I went in to return it the guy was so completely rude I left fuming and crying. Yeah that bad. You think that just asking a question would get a polite response, but instead I was yelled at, interrupted and talked over. I tried to remind him that I am the customer and that he should allow me to ask my question, but he didn't, he continued to yell at me. I asked for the manager he told me he was the manager, and that there was no one higher than him. Well in addition to this review I intend to call corporate and complain about him there too. His service was so horrifying and appalling that I am shocked. Because of this, I think that u-haul has lost my service too. My advice steer clear of storage mart. read more

It's an excellent location for me and I was happy to find this place. The workers are awesome tooo.... But the only problem is the internal suffocation of toxic stale air... I cant breath in there... when moving stuff, it makes the body needing to breath more n well... and the stale air there is horrrrrible!... why isn't fans, or windows to breathe fresh air with hard Labors? read more

Don't do it! This is a hugely inconvenient place. Often the elevator doesn't work. Usually you cannot find a hand truck. The office is staffed erratically. The result is that you drive down to move stuff into or out of your storage unit, and you cannot access it. And don't bother trying to call in advance to see if the elevator is working or a hand truck has turned up - you'll just get the voicemail. A really bad experience, down to me getting charged an extra month's rent - attributable to delays in moving my stuff out because the elevator was busted again. read more

I came in to sign up for my unit only to realize I had reserved the wrong size. This occurred while I had two movers on the clock & a truckload of items that needed to be unloaded. Sebastian expedited his process & found me another unit quickly & efficiently. I appreciated that he took the time & empathized with my situation. This is the worst place you can choose. I urge you to avoid it at all costs. Repeatedly, I pay my bill, then get notices they are selling my stuff for non-payment. Once I can see, but this is repeatedly. I have paid every month, but I guess they forget to process it. The people who work here do not know what they are doing. It is a disaster. I would give it 0 stars, negative stars, if possible. read more

The manage, Bo, is great! He made renting a U-Haul so easy and hassle-free. I highly recommend this location over a regular U-Haul location. He is a private renter, so there's no BS involved. He also has storage units on site if you need them. read more

Local management is great! However, the company sucks. My storage unit was broken into twice. The building security is a joke. They weasel out of covering your losses when you make a claim. The cameras are poor quality even when they are working. The security DVR only records a few days at a time. So, the camera system is completely useless. I would not recommend storing anything you care about here. read more

Rowland Browne made it a very nice experience. He helped us find the packing materials we were looking for and he was very friendly.

The on-site people are helpful, courteous and professional. My praise ends there. The elevator in my part of the building was broken for weeks. They kept saying that it won't be long and "you can use the other elevator". The other elevator only goes to the 3rd floor, which left me carrying everything up to the 4th floor by hand! About 7 months ago, 2 of the 4 carts were stolen. They kept saying that they would replace them in a couple of weeks. Calling Roland, the regional manager, did not help - same story. Eventually he promised me they would be there in 2 days. That was over 2 months ago! The long waits for the remaining carts are ridiculous. The logjam is an embarressment to the company. I tried to contact the owners, but, the staff just said to go online. Then my report will reach the regional manager's desk, where he will decide what goes on to the owners! So, what's the point? What a lousy way to run a business. The poor service is just not worth the price. read more

I rented a storage shed from Storage Mart with a cheap introductory rate. Now i know why. The place is poorly run. The freight elevator doesn't always work and the management is awful. I have been there twice to try to pay for my shed, only to find a "be back in 15 minutes" sign that really means be back in 30 minutes or more. I made the trek to Oakland at the beginning of the month to pay for my shed and let them know I'd be moving out. There was the infamous "15 minutes" sign. I hung out for 10 or so minutes, then went down the street to get coffee. 30 minutes later, the sign was still up and I had to leave. When I finally get someone on the phone 2 days later to pay and give notice, I'm told it's MY FAULT that the place only has one employee and they can't regularly be around to actually help out customers. I've rented from numerous storage places, and this one is the worst. The manager is rude, unaccomodating, and runs the place with a skeleton crew which means no customer service and a time consuming nightmare while you wait around to pay or get any other issues with them resolved. I would highly recommend renting somewhere else--somewhere that cares about the people giving them their money! read more

They are super helpful, efficient, and friendly to boot. - prices are reasonable - easy to get to, just off West Grand Ave exit - they have a very neat store front (and i like neat) - i chose a small 4x4 storage unit, it's basically a large wooden box with a heavy duty full length latch closure (the endless rows of units in a windowless poorly ventilated warehouse kinda creep me out so I won't be going there alone) - security seems pretty tight and well-surveilled - if you have renter's insurance, be sure to bring it for them to copy and avoid coverage fees read more

Sebastien is great the company is not. Doors are frequently broken and takes forever to fix. Meanwhile its a warren to navigate with a cart full of stuff. Also be prepared for the 15 day notice that you have to give which I was unaware of they hold you accountable for that entire month! they are continuing to bill me even after I filled out paperwork and vacated unit. The experience overall was frustrating. I live in another city and, initially, was told I could do all the paperwork and pay by phone. However, when the lady who dropped off the items that we were buying from (let's call her Sara) arrived at the storage, she was told that the unit I paid for was occupied with items and too small. We had to get a larger unit and paid the difference. I have been trying to get a copy of the paperwork because Sara had to sign the paperwork for us since I was not there in person. It has been 4 days now and I have not heard anything back nor receive a copy of the paperwork via email. read more

Steer clear!! Scheister warning! I had been a tenant of the old Economy Self Storage for years without a problem. When I heard it was being taken over by Storage Mart, I was leery, and now I know that my uneasiness was correct. After a superficial clean-up - a coat of paint, and tranforming the office into something like the set of Oprah - they raised the rent, just as I predicted. I went in to pay the rent, and noticed that they had installed a giant flat screen TV behind the counter - I asked "So this is what the higher rent has paid for?" but the girl behind the counter just giggled nervously. I really don't need a giant flat screen at my storage unit. Really. They also changed the late date for pymt., Economy Self Storage let you go until the 10th before it was late. Storage Mart needs it by the 2nd or you'll pay a fine. Now I have received a letter offering some kind of protection racket... they're forcing you to either show proof of renter's insurance or pay for some kind of "protection"--- not insurance, mind you --- and I'm sure this is just the beginning of their fee mania. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you look elsewhere for storage, Storage Mart has proven that they'll nickel & dime you for every cent they can get. I'm looking elsewhere for my storage needs. read more

I really got the run-around in both the truck rental as well as storage space. I needed some climate control and when I showed up 2 hours later, they stuck me in a unit without it and a promise to upgrade for free. 5 months later I'm still waiting and stuck in a contract. Don't do it! read more

I made a reservation here mainly because it was nearly 1/2 of what I found online anywhere else and I'm pretty damn fugal, okay, fine, cheap. I knew it was a sketchy area when I made the reservation, no big deal. Sketchy areas=my thing, whatever. The guy at the front desk super nice (wish I could remember his name. One might even call him attractive....anyways) so I get there and there's alot of activity and yelling outside, still totally 5 stars though, then the front desk guy takes me to the upstairs (5X6) unit and the awful pesticidy, cheap air freshner? smell is just pervasive but I'm not completely turned off until we walk down a few dark corridors and he shows me the unit is actually not a ground level. Its some kind of ceiling unit. As I'm walking around several corridors with him hunting for the "ladder" I begin to notice the mouse/rat house traps at every corner and then the caved in black ceiling. That was my cue to call off the date...lol I mean storage rental. I said "Yeah umm I dont thing this is going to work" We never even found the ladder together...next lifetime, storage mart. I was in. family crises mode when I first went to StorageMart on Mandella way in Oakland.My family and I had just had a house fire in our home and between the fire and the smoke and water damage we lost most of are things.There were some things that we salvage but we needed to put them in storage and going on a recommendation from a family member I ended up at Storeage Mart on Mandella way in Oakland.At first I was very happy with the service and having my family's things in a safe place till we find a permanent home.I was really glad to be able to sign up for auto withdrawal for the monthly fee as I knew that I did not want the headache of trying to remember the due date each month.I did not even mind a mixup on which storage unit I was actully getting.Everything was fine until October when I get a call from a StorageMart employee stating that I had not paid my fees for Sept. and Oct.was due.I stated that I was signed up for auto withdrawal and to go ahead and put it thru for the fees.This employee told me that she could not find my account in their system.I asked if that is the case how do they know I have not paid my fees.The employee then got unprofessional and said well if you had been checking my account I should have known that the fees had not been taken out.Although this is true, I explained that I had been dealing with the aftermath of the house fire and that is why I signed up for auto withdrawal.She was not able to find my account and said that they would have to get back to me.So another associate calls me around the middle of oct.She stated that as of Nov. first I would owe three months rent.I told her that I was set up for auto payment and that had told the employee that called me prior to put the charges through but she could not find my account in the system.She put me hold for about 10 minutes and then came back on the line and told me she had found the account and not to worry that she would get it fixed.So that sounded great I was wrong.November 15 I get a voicemail message stating that if I don't make all back payments by Nov.25 My unit will be autioned off.So I go to the office of StoreageMart on Mandella way Oakland CA. on Sunday Nov 24 the assistant manger was at the desk.I explaind my situation and she was at a loss to explain what was going on.She started looking in the company system on her computer and she came up with a statement showing that StorageMart had taken the fees due out on Friday Nov 21.After Ic reviewed the statement I noticed that the info and charges on the statement were not mine.I showed her my signed contract that showed the amount I was supposed to be charged.As we looked more into it we found that the unit across from my unit had gotten switched in the computer with my info.I asked Her to please switch the info and she stated she could not do that.She said the store Manager would have to do that.I told her ok That I would back the next day.So I show up the nextday only to find out that had not taken the out and the problem had not even. been looked at by the Manager.I asked if I could speak to the Manager and she called him in his office and I could hear the conversation because the speakerphone was on.The Manager told her to tell me that he could not talk to me he was busy and he would get back to me.when he could.So. in addition to this headache I experenced things like dirty units,and when I had to put more things in my unit there were never any loading carts available and if there was a cart it had flat tires or messed up wheels.Also the elevators were not working some of the time.This StorageMart advertised that they had spacious aisles.Well the carts they had for customers to use did not fit in a lot of the aisles. So If You are Considering to Use Storage Mart on Mandella Way in Oakland think about if you have time to to deal with all this type of problems. read more

This storage place for my extras knockjed my inner stero type images on the b__! The rooms were clean and if there is any concern you have they address it.....Sebastian Gray was especially helpful. He explained everything thoroughly. I mentioned the unit I was considering was so much darker than the other; Sebastian painted it that evening! It did indeed look brighter. The floors are kept clean.The service he offered with his big smile always sincerely interested in how he could make my experience there better. I was flabbergasted that taking my things to storage was not the stereotype seedy dirty place I expected; if you have any clothes you want to sell on craigs list and you need to store until winter for example, these folks [all of the guys I met were pretty charming!] will make you happy you came. Don't be fooled go to 2430 Mandela Pkwy,or call them, ask for the guy who makes eye contact with a smile, Sebatian Gray!! They even are willing to do a 'little' negotiating, esprcially if you are charming anf you don't expect it.
