We were driving back from the hill country with relatives from the north and wanted to find a place for a quick lunch in Glen Rose. The reviews sounded good so we drove to it but we're taken aback by the outside and the fact it was listed as a "deli". It looked like an abandoned resale shop so one of us went in the check it out. He walked in the door and immediately waved us in. What a gem! The inside looked like an old library with uniqueness around every corner. The staff was super friendly, as Texans should be and very attentive even though it was busy on a Saturday lunch. We had a deck of Uno cards on the table to entertain us while we waited (which wasn't long). Best of all the food was really good!! We even shared a cobbler at the end -- one dessert and four spoons. Their hours were posted as 11-3 Mon- Sat. Not sure if that will change in the summer but for now it's lunch only--but definitely worth it. read more

Very cool theme and great atmosphere. We decided to come here for lunch at a very popular time, it seemed. The waitress warned us of the extra wait time (halfway asking us to leave it seemed), but we decided to stay anyway. The food was good - fresh and tasty. The service - well - I hope we just caught our waitress on an off day. She overall just seemed rather annoyed. I would definitely recommend this place, but just hope the service is a bit more friendly. read more

It might have just been a bad day. It's my only visit there. It's neat inside. Clean. The grilled cheese was dry. I don't think the cheese they use is supposed to be on grilled cheese. No gooey ness just dry. Fruit cup was good. The 2nd plate we had , had extra dry non edible roast beef. The person with me threw up. They did not charge us for that plate but made the comment it was on the house. I don't think that is the words for a plate that was not touched after one bite. The wAitress was nice so I gave them 3 stars. read more

we hit storiebook cafe on the way back to houston from fort worth and am so glad that we stopped here. honestly, the sign in the front made me hesitant to try it out. i hate that they use curlz font...and so prominently, too. the cafe itself was redeeming, though. my 2 year old son started getting fussy as we were getting ready to go in so i was concerned about how he'd do in there and whether or not it was going to be kid friendly. i was so pleasantly surprised and relieved to see a whole corner of the cafe dedicated to entertain kids with a little wooden kitchen, toys, books, and stuff to play dress up. my son instantly brightened up and went to playing right away. our server was really friendly and welcoming. we both ordered sweet tea which came out in clear glass goblets which i thought was a nice touch. my husband ordered the SOUTHWESTERN WRAP with plain kettle chips and i ordered the CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICH with salt and vinegar kettle chips. we ordered our son the soup of the day which was the CHICKEN NOODLE. my husband's southwestern wrap was the best southwestern wrap i've ever tried even though i am not usually a fan. it was so fresh and didn't have this overpowering southwestern, bean-ey flavor that i just don't like. there was even a pleasant little kick and crisp of jalapeno in there without being too spicy or overwhelming. my chicken salad was served in a croissant (big plus). they include grapes in their chicken salad which i've only recently begun to like (i'm normally weird about fruit and meat combinations). it was good but i was really wishing that there was more of the chicken salad. there really wasn't a substantial amount in there. and what was there wasn't much chicken at all. there were actually more grapes in there than chicken. :i the chicken noodle soup was tasty and flavored well without being too salty. there was one piece of carrot in there, though and my son LOVES having a good amount of veggies so he was bummed when his first bite of carrot was also his last. the book shop part of the cafe itself was so nice. i asked if they had a certain book and was pleasantly surprised that they knew right away that they had it and where it was and that it was HALF OFF! it was used of course but that doesn't bother me at all. i didn't realize it at first but my husband pointed out that there is a book room toward the back of the cafe. i wandered in and was so tickled with the quaint little shop. was so nice to be able to support a local business and bookstore at that. there aren't enough of these places. will definitely be coming back next time we are in the glen rose area. and definitely to try something off of what looked like a yummy coffee/espresso menu. read more

Chose the day's specials and more: Cobb Salad Wrap with generous portions of chicken, bacon, avocado, fresh greens, and a deliciously spicy dressing in a fresh wrap was the highlight of the meal. Choose from 5 potato chip flavors. Homemade vegetable beef soup was just OK. Turkey and swiss on sourdough was piled high. Could have left off one of the layers of bread to better suit our taste. Pasta salad was unique in that it was made with spaghetti rather than the traditional elbows, twirls, or shells. Books are for sale at a reasonable price. Service was exceptional! read more

Really great little cafe in the hills of Texas. You won't find anything like this for miles and miles so if you like little eclectic cafes with a menu that doesn't include FRIED EVERYTHING you better stop here. I was very pleased with the lighter fare here. I didn't have to decide between gigantic meal vs fried gigantic meal here, which you often have to do when you are in Texas. They also have a wide range of chips to choose from and a sandwich comes with pickles, which I have an inkling they are pickling themselves, because they were quite delicious with a spice I could not detect. Nice lemonades come in giant mason jars and you will enjoy the whimsical feel of this place that is like a mish-mash between a library and Alice's tea party in Wonderland. read more

Unique, cozy, atmosphere, and (mostly) fresh food. My cobbler was good, but my friend's cobbler was not so great. Hers was cold in parts. Oddly enough, mine was warmed perfectly. Still, the atmosphere alone is reason enough to check the place out. Of course, having fresh ingredients is a great way to retain your customer base. We LOVE this little spot! I always get their Greek salad or Greek wrap and just love it. Service is great and the waitresses are super nice! There is a kids area where they can play and dress up while they wait on their food. Half of the restaurant looks like a library and is decorated with all kind of books. The StorieBook Cafe was a great choice for us in Glen Rose. The cafe is a restaurant and bookstore and has lots of character to it. We were looking for sandwiches and greatly preferred this over Subway since we're sick of the chains. Desserts are good, as is anything with bacon (club / BLT). The staff is very friendly and knowledgable about the area. I definitely recommend stopping here at least once. We'll be back. read more

Best People you will ever meet! Kid friendly! We take our kids every time we are in town. I even bought one of their large metal roses that everyone loves at my house. This time, even the dog will get to visit the patio for lunch. Oh and they even gave my 5 yr old tips on how to make furniture like theirs in the Fairy Garden. Love them! read more

18 of us arrived (8 adults and 10 children under the age of nine). To our surprise, we were actually welcomed! A lovely store and cafe for all ages. The owner was attentive and friendly as was our server. I loved my Reuben sandwich. The bathroom was clean. In Glen Rose, TX, you're hard pressed to find food that isn't sauteed in bacon grease, deep-fried and smothered with BBQ sauce. StorieBook Cafe was a little haven of healthy, homemade soups, salads, sandwiches and wraps. Even the BBQ-lover in our group (grumpy that we were eating sandwiches for lunch) had to admit his grilled cheese and tomato soup were awesome. I had the Turkey Avocado wrap, an incredible "stuffed" potato soup (which does actually have bacon on it, but big chunks of actual bacon, none of that bac-o-bits garbage), and a real cappuccino (a delicacy in a small Texan town). Everything was delicious. The atmosphere wraps you up like a warm blanket, and the staff were as friendly as can be - even staying open late to accommodate us. I wanted to hang out there all day. The only critique I can come up with his that they don't take American Express (but Visa & MC are ok), and the simple side salad was a little blah according to one of my co-workers. We didn't try any special salads though. I'm sure they're terrific. If you're in the area and need a break from really heavy food, do yourself a favor and stop here. You won't be sorry. read more
