Healthier options like Curry-rubbed Mahi-Mahi with Asian salad, Salmon salad with rice noodles and watermelon radish, and Buttermilk Chicken Salad have impressed me, and heartier dishes including Lamb Curry with cumin rice, Garlic Chicken with black pepper rice, Garlic Pork Bites with polenta cakes, and today's Beef Bourguignon have all been excellent! The Lamb Curry dish is in my top 3-5 all-time favorite dishes from Downtown Kitchen! I'm a big Clam Chowder fan, but I'm picky, and the one I had a month or two ago may have been the best one made here. It had a thick and creamy, well-seasoned base with plenty of clams and potatoes. Definitely a strong showibg! They have chili available daily now for the colder seasons, and I look forward to trying it again soon, since it's been very good the past few years!

I do want to mention that I arrived about 45 minutes before closing, but the staff was still incredibly accommodating and never made me feel rushed. I started with the mac and cheese, which had amazing flavor. It was a little saltier than I personally prefer, but the noodles and sauce were cooked perfectly. The only thing I would have changed is adding a little more cheese to make it even creamier. The complimentary bread wasn't my favorite since it was a little messy to eat, but if you enjoy a savory, crunchy bread, you'll probably like it. For my entrée, I ordered the ribs with mashed potatoes, and they paired so well together. Part of me wishes I had tried the braised short rib with the mashed potatoes, but I was still happy with my choice. The ribs were tender and practically fell off the bone. I would have liked a little more barbecue sauce, but they were still delicious. The mashed potatoes, though, completely stole the show. They were hands down the best part of the meal. 10 out of 10, and an absolute must try! The restaurant was pretty busy, which is always a good sign. I was seated in the back corner near the kitchen, which wasn't my favorite spot, but it didn't take away from the experience. The service was friendly and attentive, and overall I had a really enjoyable meal. I'd definitely recommend stopping by if you're staying at The Pfister or looking for a nice dinner in Milwaukee.

My favorite Gouda Girls sandwich is still, and likely forever will be, their Wisconsin Cheese Steak, served with grilled onions, fresh mushrooms, and choice of cheese, which now includes a new and exclusive beechwood cold smoked gouda. That cheese is amazing and I loved it on my cheese steak! Today's mac n cheese flavors included chipotle cheddar with Andouille sausage. I've had that one before and it rocks! The Gouda Girls are often at Chill on the Hill in Bay View, members nights at the zoo and other events and corporate locations. Find them around town and eat their food!

GLUTEN FREE GRILLED CHEESE. Need I say more?…read more My gluten free tribe knows how hard it is to find these foods. Ever since the closing of the late, lamented Melthouse on Kenilworth, there has been nowhere for a gluten free foodie to get a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich in Milwaukee. Search no more!! They have a large menu of hot sandwiches, most of which can be made gluten free. On my first visit I tried the Havarti Hottie, a fabulous combination of Havarti and ghost pepper cheeses, thick bacon, and fig jam, all grilled to toasty perfection on GF bread. The sweetness of the jam nicely cut through the slight heat of the pepper cheese. I was blown away by how delicious the sandwich was. I know I have to come back and try all the other ones. I highly recommend this spot as downtown's best kept secret. Great place to meet people for lunch. Easy and ample (metered) street parking nearby. Tons of sunny (indoor) seating. And it's a mini food court, with three other restaurants so your friends have choices. One week later: I returned to try the Cheesesteak on gluten free bread. I got it with all the fixings:. Onions, peppers, mushrooms. I must say, everything was great EXCEPT the steak. For one thing, it was cut in chunks, which I thought was weird for a Cheesesteak. Worse, the meat was all gristle. I could not chew it. I ended up taking all the meat out of the sandwich and eating it that way. Also, the sandwich would have been easier to eat if it had been cut in half. I'll return, but I'll be sticking with the grilled cheese.
