My buddy and I stopped by Stormy's at the recommendation of my father-in-law as we headed back from golf in Sebastapol last weekend. We grabbed a couple seats at the bar and were casually treated to one of the best dining experiences I've had in a while. Our bartender (also the owner) poured us a couple of stiff drinks and walked us through the cuts of meat offered. Had a great bowl of clam chowder, a nice salad, then dug in to the biggest, juiciest porterhouse I've ever had. Nice and crispy on the outside, and very pink in the middle... just like I ordered. We couldn't have been more pleased with our decision to stop in. I'll be back to Stormy's anytime I'm within 20 miles of that place. read more

We invited our employees to dinner and we were not disappointed. The communication was wonderful and helpful in planning for a party of 14. We were offered menu items and they were quite accommodating when they discovered that we had a few with dietary restrictions. I preordered several appetizers and the only complaint was that the garlic bread was a little strong. Everything else was wonderful! Service was spot on.....communication was great. I truly appreciate all of their hard work to accommodate us all!! When dinners began arriving, I was pleasantly surprised! The fried chicken and prime rib dinners are generous portions! I was looking for a new "hidden gem" for date night and a friend recommended Stormy's. I'd never heard of it, so I looked up their menu and was instantly excited! This evening we made the beautiful trek out to the restaurant from Petaluma. We were greeted by a warm atmosphere of friendly people and a cozy fire. We were seated promptly and we both gazed around admiringly at the rustic charm of the beautiful historic building. Having already perused the menu online, both my hubby and I knew what we wanted to eat. Our waitress (the owner's daughter) was courteous, prompt, and had a great personality. We were in a bit of a time crunch and I wanted to try their fried chicken, but since it takes 40 minutes to cook she advised us that it wouldn't work out timing wise. She even recommended that we call ahead next time so that they can get it going ahead of time! Instead we opted to share the 30 oz bone in rib eye and boy am I glad we didn't order another entree! Everything is served family style (with delicious clam chowder soup, house salad, and sourdough bread) and along with our appetizer (a generous portion of perfectly cooked calamari), we both were not only full, but also had leftovers!! We both left satisfied and will definitely be returning. The icing on the cake was that our niece is named Stormy. Before leaving we noticed they had t-shirts, so we bought her one and she was thrilled when we gave it to her. New York scallopini was so salty almost inedible. Chicken portion was so small had to take my son to get a sandwich after. A great funky, relaxed place to enjoy drinks and good food. After starting with an honest margarita, we were served the calamari, which was abundant, lightly battered and excellent. Good clam chowder, crisp green salad, huge portion of crunchy fried chicken with sides of mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. The 16oz, prime rib cooked exactly as ordered. What is not to like? The portions are so generous, we took 3 pieces of chicken and half of prime rib home for leftovers. We will return. read more

I've drove past this place hundreds of times, and never stopped. Went there tonight for a friends birthday dinner and holy smokes! Why have I not been here before?? My husband and I love Stormy's, we go each year on Valentine's Day. Stormy's is owned and run by family, they serve, cook, clean and everything in between. It's has a relaxed family style atmosphere, like having a great steak dinner at your mom's house. The food is consistently great, with a basic menu of mostly steaks, they also have chicken, lamb and seasonal fish. Your meal will include clam chowder, salad, steak and steamed veggies and potatoes. If your expecting phew, phew exotic food with a huge staff waiting on you, then this isn't the restaurant for you. But if you enjoy a relaxing dinner, waited on by a family and a great meal, then visit Stormy's! read more

After reading the article in the PD, we figured we would take a drive out there for an nice sit down dinner in an old Sonoma County institution. As we entered we sat down at the bar, since there was no one to greet us around the front door area. The bartender was nice enough to greet us and asked us if we were staying for dinner with them. We acknowledged the fact and ordered some cocktails. After sitting there an finishing our cocktails, I asked the bartender do we go sit down or what. He went back to the kitchen I guess and brought out a middle aged lady who showed us a table and never asked if we wanted another drink or if we were going to have wine with dinner. Our menus arrived about 5 minutes later, with which would have been nice to have another cocktail while perusing the menu. But no. ( they missed out on another round of cocktails) She came back and asked us if we were ready to order. I told her to please return in a few more minutes and asked if they had "rare" prime rib. Without asking she said they always have rare and that was their house specialty as well as their clam chowder. The first thing I noticed is that their prices were kinda high when comparing the place with other Sonoma country places. $15 bucks for an order of onion rings, which were priced at the same price as a calamari or fried shrimp. Last time I checked onions were less than a buck a pound, where prawns were in the 10-15 dollar a lb price. The New York was also pricey at around $ 38 bucks where the prime rib was 34, but it didn't say how large the cut was going to be. Anyway, my wife ordered the New York and I ordered the rare prime rib. After a few minutes a couple of bowls of clam chowder appeared, without any other word, no asking if we were ready to order wine or not. Our clam chowder was nothing special, mostly potatoes and a few pieces of clam in a thick flowery semi diluted paste. We both had about 4 or 5 spoons of the soup and pushed away the bowls, to work on the salad that they had brought almost at the same time as the soup. During this whole experience the waitress never seemed to be enjoying her job, or at least making an attempt to be semi friendly. Curt and unwelcome comes to my mind as we sat there. After a few minutes after we finished our salads, which were OK, our entrees were presented. My wife's medium rare New York was overcooked to a medium well and my "rare" prime rib was medium, not even medium rare. Rare is when the inside of the meat is warm and pink, no amount of aujus poured on the top of the meat will magically reverse the cooking process and make it rare. I sat there for a few minutes waiting for the the waitress to come back to check and see how are entrees were and after about 5 minutes figured out that she wasn't coming back. It was probably a futile attempt to get a more moist cut of meat, so I decided to cut into it and eat it. After a few more cuts, I tasted like the meat was not cooked today and was just rewarmed with aujus and passed off as freshly cooked prime rib. There is nothing more disappointing than not getting something that you were wishing for, which was a nice moist rare cut of prime rib. My wife's strip steak was ok, but also over cooked. The waitress finally came back after about 15 minutes not to ask if everything was OK, or if we wanted coffee or dessert, but to drop the bill off. Needless to say the whole experience was a big let down. We didn't both drive all the way out there just to leave saying to ourselves that we will never return here. It's too bad because the place has the opportunity to do a decent job, sans the fact that the people working there just don't seem like they enjoy what they are doing and express that attitude to it's patrons. I am sure that the regular band of locals club, enjoy the clique and find it perfectly fine. That's not what the hospitality business should be. read more

My steak was so badly charred on the outside that it was inedible. when I brought it to the attention of the waitress, she said she would talk to the chef / owner Roger and send him out. Roger didn't come out, but she came back and accused my wife and I of complaining every time we go in there. I've only complained about a steak one time in there. She was very rude and actually refused to cook another steak. She did offer a piece of prime rib which I had and it was good, however because of her attitude we will never ever return to Stormy's. read more

This place ruined my birthday! My husband decided to throw a surprise party here. I believe there were 16 of us, including friends from out of state. We arrived 45 mins early (6:15 pm) and could see our table all set up and ready to go... yet we still stood there for almost 2 (8:15) hours waiting to be seated. Once we were seated we sat and waited. No one took drink orders, or even brought water, I had friend playing server to get drinks from the bar for us. We continually tried to get a servers attention and were either ignored or blown off around 9:00 pm 10 of my guests bailed. By 9:30 they finally took our orders and once the place was closed and almost everyone (guest wise) had left, our food was served. The food was divine... but nothing could prepare me from what happened next! When we received our full priced bill, they charged us 18% gratuity!! on a party of 6 because everyone else left. So I refused to pay this charge! They did NOTHING to deserve it! Well... here comes the crowning jewel on this birthday crown of doom... They chased me down in the parking lot!! Forced us back into the restaurant and loudly claimed we ran out on the bill and they were calling the cops!!! I asked them what they were talking about, we paid for our meals. THE OWNER started ranting about the tip and how it is charged on 6 people and we are EXPECTED to pay it. I calmly looked at him and explained that it is NOT written on the menu and, from what I understood, NOT LEGALLY OBLIGATED. He continued to raise a stink, swearing he was going to call the police if I did not pay it. I sat down and said please do, I would like to hear what they have to say about these slanders and being held against my will. He had the audacity to tell me to leave and never come back, like I would EVER waste my hard earned money in an establishment like that!! Needless to say, my birthday ended with me so upset I cried the whole way home, and my husband feeling horrible for the whole evening. We had heard a lot about Stormy's so we thought we would take the 25 minute drive to try it. We figured maybe the people on Yelp were just the complainers; that most people liked it and didn't take the time to write a review. So, on a Saturday night, my wife, son and I took the journey to the boonies (and this place is in the middle of nowhere). Arriving at this quaint building from times long past, we opened our car doors anticipating the smells of tantalizing barbeque meats; instead our senses were attacked by the odors of cow manure. Fair enough - we were on our way to an unpretentious home style feast. Well, half the restaurant was closed, the remaining smaller portion 3/4 full. We were seated right away and bread promptly brought - sourdough, served at room temperature (not warmed) with a scoop of butter the size of a lightbulb. Next, promptly came their "famous" clam chowder - served luke warm and no clams to speak of - more like warm milk with chunks of tasteless potato and carrots. The salad comes with only one dressing - an italian oil and vinegar and the lettuce was soaked with it. You can have as much salad, bread and soup as you care to but who wanted more? They were out of prime rib (at 7:00 PM) - I had the rib eye, my son the New York and my wife, the filet. Meat portions were large - my rib eye could have been 2 pounds - but tasteless, almost juiceless meat sandwiched in between two charred (they probably would call it "seared") outer briquets. This was not "black and blue" steak - I' ve had that at good restaurants that know how to cook it. This was medium rare ala Kingsford. The small order of string beans it came with was greasy with butter; two small potato pieces were tasteless but nicely cooked. At $29.00 per entree (no drinks,dessert or other extras) (including bread, soup, and salad), it still could have been reasonable if the food was good. But it wasn't and it wasn't. First off I should have reviewed yelp prior to going to Stormy's, I guarantee you I would have made a completely different decision as to where I would have spent my 69th birthday party. I raved to my family about how good Stormy's was in the past. My husband and I visited Stormy's many times in the past. I made reservations a day in advance as I knew from past experience that the place filled up fast. Well when we arrived there was no problem finding a parking place it was almost completely empty except for two cars. Since the parking lot is in the rear of the restaurant we got a great view of a collection of junk piled high outside the back of the restaurant along with a few older cars that appeared to be parked there for a while. As we entered the restaurant I noticed the porch area could use a good sweeping and cleaning. But the beautiful front door seemed out of place with the rest of the appearance. Upon entering the place a lady was standing at or near the bar area, she looked up at us with a frown! She then proceeded to say are you the 4:30 reservations and I told her yes. She didn't say anything, instead she walked away and grabbed some menu's. I then assumed she meant for us to follow her into the dining room. Other than a few people at the bar and one table in the bar area occupied the dining room she directed us to was empty. I figured it was because we were early. Since we were quickly seated I thought for sure it was going to be a good experience, little did I know that the people that work there may they be the owner or family members really do not care if they make their customers happy or not. After we were seated the waitress didn't ask us if we were interested in ordering drinks. My son finally called her over to ask if we could order some drinks. Her look on her face told me she was very put off having to be asked. We ordered eight drinks she brought them out in stages on a tray rather than putting them all on the same tray and bringing them all together. (Oh and she was the bartender also.) I ordered kahlua and cream, it was so full of ice that it had very little drink in it. It also was in a very small glass. My son ordered a kamikaze. He has ordered this drink many times before so he knows how it should taste He took one sip of his drink and said oh no this isn't right. He called the waitress over to the table to tell her, she then became irritated and told him in a very stern voice "She has never had anyone return a drink". Well there is always the first time for everything, the way she acted made everyone at the table uncomfortable. Then we were served very thinly ice cold French bread that was not fresh along with a large portion of very cold butter. When will these dinner houses learn to serve warm bread if they are going to serve cold butter or serve butter that is at room temperature if they choose not to warm their bread!! We ordered two Hors d'oeuvres that she served one at a time rather both at once. We were served two large bowls of soup that they called clam chowder. It didn't have any clams in it nor any clam favor. Instead it tasted more like a very thin and watery version of potato soup. The celery in it was large chunks that were only partially cooked. It also had some julienne sliced carrots in it and rather large chunks of onions. To top that off it was served warm not steaming hot the way soup should be served. We then received a salad that they had spent a lot of money on the ingredients, unfortunately it was basically pretty unfavorable except for the beets. My grandson ordered his steak well done, he asked for it crisped, she proceeded to tell him that it would not taste good and he said that was ok as that is how he wanted it cooked. His girl friend on the other hand ordered her steak rare. His steak came medium well not well done and his girl friends was medium rare not rare. When the waitress brought out the main entrees they were delivered to the table in stages rather than all at once. I was served my plate by an another lady who seem pretty perturbed with the whole thing. The sides consisted of a very small portion of mashed potatoes and vegetables . The waitress ignored us after that even though she only had two other tables seated. We had to call her over to our table to ask about dessert. She first told us she had several desserts that included cheese cake, but walked away only to return to say she only had the cream puff sundaes and did not have any cheese cake as they had ran out the night before. As we left my grand daughter spoke to the older women telling her how unhappy we were with the service. She in turn spat out the she had never had anyone return a drink in all her life. I told her she may want to look at why the dining room was basically empty. She just rolled her eyes. She was not interested in hearing any of our remarks. I used to love this roadhouse and now its not worth the drive for me. Food quality seems to have declined since day 1 and service isnt anything to write home about. Quite possibly the worst dinner I've ever had at a restaurant. We arrived at 6:30 and the place was nearly empty which seemed odd for a Friday night but now I understand. It took almost 90 minutes for us to receive our main entrees. The butter was ice cold as another reviewer mentioned, the potatoes in the clam chowder were gritty. I had the prime rib which was just lousy and the portion was comically huge compared to the two pieces of red potato (two pieces that is correct) that is passed off as a side. I have never spent this much on such bad food. I've had better prime rib at Carrow's which was disappointing since this is what Stormy's is famous for. I don't understand how this place has managed to stay open so long. Service was nice enough but painfully slow and the whole operation seems disconnected and not well organized. read more

AND the kicker was when paying the bill was told "hope you don't have any more Restaurant.com coupons. If you do you must use it by the end of this year". I told her I actually did have one more and there is no expiration date on it but not to worry I wouldn't be using it! I really hate to say this about any restaurant, especially one that I would love to love. HORRIBLE!! We have gone to this place a few times over the last 10 years and every time it seems the food has gone farther down hill. The last time was in January 2011 for a friend's birthday. We were sat in the bar- noisy and chairs so close to our neighbor we might as well have joined them! The drinks took 20 minutes!! For 2 beers and 2 margaritas! And they were NOT busy...wait-staff just forgot us! Hello!? We were IN the bar!! The menu indicated a huge jump in pricing as well. Who pays $39.95 for a steak??? Husband had fried chicken...$19.95 and one had the Prime Rib $39.95 and one had the "special shrimp dish" $19.95 and I had the rib-eye...$29.95. First came cold bread slices, and the weakest form of clam chowder ever. We played a game called "find the clam"...no one did! The salad looked like something a child threw together and then the wait....hmmmm...waiting... Finally the waitress strolled over and blamed the delay on the fried chicken. Said it was "hand breaded" etc. One and a half hours after entering,,the food arrived. What a joke! The fried chicken was this dark shade of brown...obviously burnt and husband said it was horrible...my steak was full of fat...prime rib was tough and friend's shrimp smelled and tasted like it had been outta the sea waaay to long! When the waitress came back and said "does the birthday girl want a celebration ice cream sundae?" She jumped at the chance to have something decent to eat! We came here once upon a time for a special occasion, & it was pretty good. We're not big beef eaters, but that's what you come here for. We enjoyed the historical atmosphere, & even had our picture taken at our table, in front of the Route 66 sign. The portions were so big that my wife had to take part of hers home. Stormy's has really fallen off the mark. They have been in a steady decline in quality for the past couple of years. In the day they were packed on a Saturday night. I really want to love this place so I've been coming back periodically, hoping my last disappointing visit was just an anomaly. But sadly it appears the poor quality is now their standard. It reflects in the lack of business on what should have been a busy night. We were one of about 8 people there at prime dinner hour. Dinner took almost took two hours. We went here tonight, for our 24th wedding anniversary. They had been closed since mid January and didn't open until February 12th. When we arrived, the hostess asked us if we had reservations and I said that we did not, my husband added that they had been closed so it was a little difficult to make one for this night(Valentines Day) She rudely replied that we had a couple of days to make a reservation and that in a few minutes, the place will be packed( we were there 2 hours and it did NOT get packed) she seated us and got us each a glass if water, took our order and came back with delicious clam chowder, soup and bread. Then we waited 30 minutes for our entree.My husband had the NY strip, which he said was good and I had deep fried prawns, which were fabulous. My husband asked for a refill on his diet soda and the waitress told him" the refills are not free..." What? At this price, they should be! Then we finished our dinner and I asked for the check. I told the waitress we were trying to catch the sunset I a few minutes. she assured us she would put a rush on it, but left and brought another table their drinks, another table she took an order, then finally gave me my check and walked away....I chased her down to ask if I could pay and she took my credit card and walked around holding it, while taking care if other customers! The drive to get there from Santa Rosa is usually beautiful. I have had only perfect meals over the years and so have my family and friends. The people that own it, work there. I could write a long review but most of the previous comments are spot on. It took forever to get the food. The food tasted mediocre at best. How do you have such poor prime rib when you're surrounded by cattle ranches?? The shrimp was nasty, but at least they took that off the bill. I was lucky enough to find this place by word of mouth out of Petaluma. It has quickly become one of my favorite places to 'get away'. The food is fantastic and the owner and his family are genuine and dear. Every time I have set foot in the place they have succeeded in making me not only feel welcome but a part of the nostalgia that the place gives off. It's really sad that this day and age we have so many self entitled people go into family owned restaurants with poor behavior and treat people how they themselves would never want to be treated. We had dinner there a few nights ago (or should I say "supper?"). The vibe was pleasant, and the service was friendly enough, but the food? Extremely disappointing. The clam chowder was the "highlight,"(a little slimy for my taste, but tasted ok once seasoned), the salad was, well, a salad. Then came their friend chicken, which looked good, but was dried out and completely flavorless, and served with "garlic"mashed potatoes that tasted like wet cardboard. This place is CRAZY. The hostess(waitress) and all of the drunk people there. First off when we walked in we stood there waiting for someone to seat us for 10 minutes. Then the waitress(hostess) was getting an attitude with us about EVERYTHING. I went for my birthday and we sat at a table by the fireplace, there was about 20-30 guys drinking at the bar(which is about 15 feet away from our table) and they are yelling and swearing and saying all sorts of moron stuff. Drove about 30 minutes with hungry wife to find that the restaurant was closed. Never been there and heard good things. Turned around and drove into Petaluma to Dempsey's and had a great dinner. I called Stormy's on the way home and they said they were spontaneously closed due to a family matter. Very frustrating that they didn't have a back up plan for people like me that drove a ways to get there. I can't give 1 star because I don't know how the food is, but I can't give 5 stars because again, I don't know how the food is. But it was a waste of an hour. Lame. Maybe I'll try again and adjust this rating after I go there, they're open and I eat. By the way, it was on a Thursday night during regular working hours. read more

Just Left Stormy's and what a refreshing experience, between us the prime rib was cooked to perfection the rib eye was superb and the 16oz steak nice and juicy great vegetables... Broccolli/cauliflower/green beans expertly seasoned. Caroline & Taylor filled in the history and what a charming Mother Daughter team. Watch the water glasses closer is the only minor moment.
