Taco Mesa has become my taco Tuesday spot! Conveniently located right across from LA fitness, I get my workout in then head straight in. They get pretty busy on Tuesdays, could be because they have great deals that day, but they get everyone's food out very quickly. We never wait too long. We order at the counter, we're given a number, find a table and they bring our food right over. Their agua frescas are delicious with the tacos. My favorite tacos are the tacos fritos since they're thin and crispy. I love the texture and the portion is perfect! I recommend the beef ones. Ambience is modern and clean. There's plenty of seating inside and outside of the restaurant. They're puppy friendly in the patio area. read more

A healthier alternative! Came in for cinco de mayo, they were busy! Cashier told us it would be about 30-45 minutes on our food before we ordered, I appreciated the heads up. Ordered the steak nachos with no pico and 2 blackened shrimp tacos. Since the ingredients weren't listed for the nachos we asked what was on them, the cashier told us chips, beans, cheese, pico and a protein of choice. When the nachos came out it also included jalapenos and sour cream, so if you like/don't like certain ingredients keep this in mind. A decent amount of seating to choose from both indoor and outdoor, it was just busy for the time we came. Place was as clean as it could be for a holiday dinner rush, the decor was nice, the warm lighting was an interesting choice. Received our food about 40 minutes after ordering. Shrimp tacos were great, would definitely come back for these. Aside from the unexpected nacho ingredients, the tajin made the chips too salty in our opinion, the steak was mixed reviews (i thought it was too crunchy, my husband who likes well done steak thought it was very good). He said the jalapenos were "a little much" but for the $20 price point it did fill him up which he was happy with. Overall, it was just okay. When I was in high school my friends and I would often drive down to Costa Mesa to eat at Taco Mesa, we loved it so much! When I saw that one recently opened up over here I was super excited. My husband had never had it, and while it had been about 20 years for me, I knew it would be good. Since it had been so long I asked my friends who live in Costa Mesa, and frequent the OG location, what they like. They did some rebranding and changed the menu and their entire look. My friend said he loves the Best of The West Tacos but those weren't on the menu. I sent him a pic of the menu at the AH location and he told me what tacos he likes. He also said they have a great tomato soup on Fridays, I am not sure if this location offers soup. He commented that the Yelp pics portray this place as sterile and boring, and I have to agree. He said the one by his house has latin flair, which I remember from my many visits years ago. I am not sure why they changed to this look. Husband went in and picked up the food to bring home, he also said it's super boring and sterile looking in there. But the food is what matters! We ordered beef taquitos, Alambre tacos, a crispy chicken taco, a blackened chicken taco, and a battered cod taco, along with a side of rice and beans. The crispy chicken and Alambre (steak, bacon, peppers, Oaxaca cheese) were pretty good, but the Alambre was dripping with grease. Blackened chicken and battered cod were really mushy - it's only about a 5 min drive home so they didn't sit very long. Taquitos had zero flavor and we didn't finish them, rice & beans were underwhelming and we tossed them. None of the salsas tasted good to me. We love Taco Mesa's location in Orange and have been longtime customers - but this new location does not feel like the Taco Mesa we know and love.. If you want a more hipster, college aged hangout this is the spot, the menu, color scheme, and ambiance just feels sterile, not warm and welcoming like the Orange location. The quality of food is on par with their other location, their salsa bar is my favorite always fresh and offering a variety of options, their chips are always warm fresh and flavorful and their agua frescas and horchata are top notch. I personally will be sticking to the OG Orange location for future visits, but come by and see for yourself if it's your jam! read more

All right, let's "taco" about this place. I came here on a Tuesday and their taco Tuesday deals. We're pretty weak because it's 4 to 5 dollars a taco depending on what you get. We ordered the chips with guacamole, chicken hard taco, mole chicken taco, and their pozole. Their chicken hard taco and their pozole was good, but not great. I think both were a bit bland. I did enjoy the chips and mole chicken tacos. I guess you can't expect amazing Mexican food in Anaheim Hills. Service was great and the restaurant was very clean. Bottom Line Up Front: A cozy place with great service and average food for above average prices. The Food: My wife and I came here for Taco Tuesday, looking for delicious Mexican food for cheap (or at least affordable prices). Shocked to find the special prices ranged from $3 to $5, which means their regular cost ($4 to $8) is overpriced. We ordered the chicken mole taco, beef taco, pozole, crispy beef taco, chips and guac, and a Mexican Coke. The tacos were fine but nothing to write home about. I disliked how the tortillas disintegrated like a wet paper bag due to the meat juice and salsa. The pozole was rather bland, as if it lacked oregano and other seasoning. Fortunately, the chips and guac were excellent. Naturally the bottled Coke was perfect. The Service: Our server was fast, friendly, and very knowledgeable. I wish I had asked for his name to give him his due (he was a bald Latino man in his 20s or 30s). A+ rating in this regard. The Overvalued Setup: Another reason for my so-so rating is that this is a fast-casual restaurant. You walk up and order at the front counter like a fast-food joint but they bring the dishes out to you. Nothing wrong with that, per se ... except that the meal prices are as high as sit-down full-service restaurants. The Location: It's located at the corner of Imperial Highway and Santa Ana Canyon Road, tucked inside a shopping complex with a poorly designed parking lot. It's across lot from the LA Fitness, so parking can be difficult to find during peak hours. Inside, the place is clean with spartan-like decor. But I dislike the layout. In the center of the main dining area is a giant rectangular table with stools, serving as a kind of shared counter. That area could have easily housed 3 to 5 separate tables for less awkward seating arrangements. To make matters worse, there are cutouts in the tables where tree stick out, like some form of artwork. I sat at a table in the side dining area near the rest rooms and it has chairs and benches, which were uncomfortable. The Conclusion: Taco Mesa is hit and miss: authentic offerings but bland flavors; excellent customer service but awkward interior setting; average food but above-average prices. read more

Spotted a new Taco Mesa location in Anaheim Hills a couple of months ago and finally made it here for dinner. I've been eating at the costa Mesa original location since 1994 so I'm super excited to have one close by. The food is slightly different, a few less protein options but everything is delicious. I ordered a carnitas burrito, wet style and a carnitas taco with a Mexican coke to drink. Then I hit the salsa bar, grabbed the roasted red and green salsa. I love cilantro so I never pass up on the chance to load up on fresh cilantro when it is available. The food didn't disappoint. I can honestly say that it is associated good as if not better than the Costa Mesa location. Order at the counter, paid for my food, was handed a number for the table and my drink. My food was brought to my table, when the server realized that I hadn't picked up utensils he immediately stated that he would grab them for me and brought them right back. Well lit and bright restaurant, open late with taco Tuesday and late night happy hour deals are offered as well. Beer and margaritas are available for sale. I can't wait to return. read more

We live in Anaheim hills now, and we always loved the taco mesa in Orange. I was super stoked to see that there is one so close to us now. Different menu, but same great taste! The person at the cash register was very help and full of answers to any questions we had. They have a very clean dining area inside and outside. Plenty of tables. I'm a sucker for nachos. They have the bestttttt chips and the best quesadilla cheese. They're spot on with flavors and just never disappoint. I gave it a 4 and not a 5 because it is a bit pricey. A fun, new spot for fresh Mexican food in Anaheim Hills. Right as you enter, there's an instant feeling of tranquility because of the soothing color choices and streamlined seating arrangements. They even have 3 live trees nestled into a counter seating arrangement :) Orders are placed at the counter and are brought out to your table when they're ready. Placing the order was easy and the workers were super friendly and happy to answer any questions. On this visit I tried their fajita plate and their freshly fried chips with a side of freshly made guacamole. Notice the freshly made theme going on? It's amazing! Their corn tortillas are also freshly made by hand with stone ground corn. The chicken fajitas were tender and perfectly seasoned with just the right ratio of protein to veggies. The plate came with rice and frijoles de olla. A nice little surprise addition was a jalapeño popper. My favorite side, however, was the chips; lightly seasoned with Tajín and fried in beef tallow ~ all I can say is AMAZING!! A definite must try!! They also have a serve yourself sauce/salsa bar. New and clean. Great addition for food in the Anaheim Hill area which is relatively a sleepy area compared to neighboring spots like Yorba Linda, Orange, Tustin, Brea. Quality, fresh ingredients. I had never been to a Taco Mesa before, this just opened near my home so I thought we would give it a try. We were not able to find a menu online (for this location) however we did view the menu from a couple of their other locations... Just to note, the menu at this location is much smaller and has only very basic items as opposed to other locations. (not saying it's a bad thing, just something to be aware of) I ordered tacos but when they told me they were served on Masa tortillas, I wasn't sure I was going to like that so I ordered one on the masa tortilla (just to try it) and the other two on flour tortillas. Although the flour tortillas were delicious, the masa tortillas blew them away. I love masa on a tamale, but had never had it in a tortilla. (Tip: When the employees give you a recommendation, take it!) He told me they were amazing and he wasn't lying!!! I will also add they are made fresh to order! Can't beat that! The steak taco was my favorite, it was seasoned perfectly, tender and had just the right amount of spice... a little kick so you knew it was there but not enough that your mouth was on fire! Came here for the first time today, and it was great. The parking is pretty easy, as it is a large center. I got there around 11:30am and ordered the blackened chicken tacos and a pineapple agua Fresca. The tacos and the drink were very delicious. The service was also very good. The employees were very nice and attentive while my friend and I were there. The owner/manager mentioned that they will start taco Tuesday specials and happy hours once they get a bit settled. Fresh tortillas. The fresh corn tortillas are so good. I had the veggie tacos, cheese quesadillas and watermelon agua fresca. I enjoyed all, but my favorite were the tacos. I also liked their topping and sauces bar. The salsa verde was the best, very mild but flavorful. All our entrees also came with a small mixed salad which was a nice extra. I also appreciate that they have a vegetarian option for all their menu items. Instead of cooking in beef tallow (their default), they can use olive oil instead. Unfortunately, the food itself was just okay--nothing particularly memorable in terms of flavor or quality. For comparison, I've had much better meals at Rubio's at a lower price point, with more satisfying portions and taste. Was excited to see Taco Mesa as a new addition to the Anaheim Hills community as we can always use more eateries. Spontaneously dropped in on a Friday evening with a voracious appetite since we were fresh from a workout. The staff was super friendly and good about proactively explaining the menu and that they substitute seed oils for beef tallow and olive oil, use only grass fed beef, and overall clean ingredients. We proceeded to order an assortment of four tacos: beer battered cod, al pastor, chicken, and steak. The tortillas were really good. The meat was unfortunately on the chewier and dry side. The salsa bar was the saving grace. They've done a good job with the atmosphere - it's fun, vibey, and has a cute aesthetic. I really appreciated the large community style seating smack dab in the middle of the restaurant. Glad to have tried this spot but won't necessarily be back as it was tough for me to find the value. I visited this new Taco Mesa location because I do love Taco Mesa, but they offered a $10 food credit as they were doing their initial advertising. I've been to many different locations, recently the one in Orange, and love that spot. I was disappointed though at the sparse menu- hoping they add more items in the future. Also, the kids meals here are basically $7-10 but don't come with any sides or even a drink.. So I am definitely not likely to get a kids meal here since I'd rather not pay $7 for a kids quesadilla by itself that my daughter may or may not eat. Considering the other locations offer kids meals with sides, I'd rather go to another spot to get more for my money. Food is always good at Taco Mesa, but prices here are a bit steep. I decided to get the entree quesadilla (to share with my daughter) and added chicken. But in the end, you pay $15 and no guac is included or anything else. I also got the chips, which my daughter inhaled. Those were awesome, and the salsa bar is pretty amazing as well. I'm not a cheapskate, but my family is on a budget and trying to be aware of what we spend. So I will likely be going to the other locations for bigger menu and a fuller kids meal selection. Ok so I've held off leaving a review for this place until I tried it 3 times. Their tacos are some of the best street style tacos I've ever had. The quality of their ingredients is noticeable in each bite, from the meat quality and taste, to the cilantro, home made tortillas and onions. Taco Mesa is unlike any other quick service Mexican restaurant. Everything is made from scratch. They use grass fed beef, tallow and olive oil, no seed oils. We ordered the tallow tajin chips, blackened shrimp tacos, blackened chicken burrito and fish tacos. Everything was super delicious and paired well with the salsas offered at the salsa bar.
