I have loved strings since they first opened in mt shasta. today, I popped in unexpectedly for an impromptu lunch with my brother and was quickly greeted by Whitney, who was the highlight of the visit. She had a wonderful smile an positive attitude and was so attentive; even as the only front of house worker on a busy afternoon. I ordered the Milan pasta with chicken, which was so tender and well seasoned! My brother got the eggplant Parmesan, which he felt had a tougher texture and a somewhat off taste to the sauce. Upon informing Whitney that he was not a fan, she immediately said "I'm sorry to hear that, let me ask my boss what I can offer to remedy the situation." he was full from the soup and breadsticks, and declined the offer for another item from the menu, and so she comped his meal, as he only had taken 3 small bites. its always hard to know how to go about saying you don't like something, and she assured us that it was not a problem, she just wanted to make sure they remedied the issue. she was extremely knowledgeable about the wines, and eager to take care of all of her guests. read more

The food is always first class. The problem is always the temperature. It's never hot enough. I always have to eat fast and not fully enjoy it, to finish before it is completely cold. I have sent it back to be re-heated and got dirty looks from the owner. Should be a very easy fix, serve it hot on a warm plate. But I guess they just don't get it. This keeps me away. read more

We we're passing thru on our way to Sacramento (from Portland) and was looking for a place to eat. Saw good reviews on the food so we decided to give it a try. And boy are we glad we did! It was nice and quiet when we came in and we were helped and seated right away. Our server Tasha was very nice and attentive. I ordered Fettuccine Milano (vegetarian) and my husband ordered Pasta Siena (comes with prawns and chicken.) Best pasta I've had in a very, very long time! My dish was nice and hot and creamy and had lots of veggies. This will definitely be a dish I'll crave again later. Too bad we live so far away! I enjoyed my visit but the heat was not on their side. The staff was helpful in making's food choices. I tried the lasagna wrapped in pastry dough. I've never had it before. It was good and different, but I don't think I would have it again. Their meat sauce was very good, reminiscent of my own, (I'm a red sauce connoisseur) I would give them another try. My salad was a over dressed, made it hard to eat. But if I'm in the area again I'd like to try again. read more

This was a pleasant surprise! Excellent service even for take out. An item was left out of our bag, and when we called, they were sincerely apologetic and asked if we were close enough to come back and get it, that they'd have it ready immediately, which we were, and we did, and it was! They had also given the option to take care of us on our next visit. When we did pick it up, the server apologized again, gave us a double portion of the item, and asked if there was anything else she could do for us. I had the Cafe Salad with house dressing, bread, and minestrone soup. They were all great. Had some cheesecake for dessert(made by The Cheesecake Factory). Food was mediocre and their Pasta Sienna was probably the best thing we ordered. We ate here a week or so ago after perusing the website and menu. (And after finding ourselves in Yreka for the evening.) According to the website, this is a chain of 5 restaurants that started in Sacramento. The restaurant in Yreka definitely had a more limited menu than what was on the website. The website appeared to have more innovative and fresher sounding menu items. But what we had was decent food and the staff was super friendly so I'd rate it as a good experience. read more

I was staying in Yreka for the night. Went to strings to get some dinner. They were busy told it would be a 15 minute wait, I said ok. Another gentlemen came in he was told it would be 15 minutes. Shasta, but like the brewery across the street, I have never warmed to this iteration of the establishment. I bought a personal pizza- $14.50 w/ house salad tonight to go by phone. I walked inside and was walked around and past by 3 or 4 waitresses before one finally asked if I need help. After finally receiving my food(cold, dry, old, and soggy as the bottom of a swamp) getting change for a $50, I had some 1's in my pocket I was planning on giving the woman helping me. She handed me my change for the 50 in all larger denominations, while I was digging the ones out, when she realized I wasn't giving her the larger denomination for a tip-(she assumed she wasn't getting a tip at all) her "Thank you" quickly, tonally; drifted into a "F You" cadence. This tells me things are way to lax around here. I think this place needs a visit from Gordon Ramsay. The one waitress I get consistent decent service from is a waitress named Tasha. Based on my one meal, this is a very friendly Italian restaurant with outstanding food. I ordered the Calimari steak with shrimp. The calimari was super tender with a luscious breading. I used to live in the Bay Area, and loved going to the Osteria restaurant in Palo Alto for their calimari steak. We heard from the Bay Area Back Roads show that the host and many viewers considered Osteria's to be the best calimari steak in the Bay Area. I enjoyed this one from Strings more. The supporting dishes, minestrone soup, shrimp scampi, angelhair pasta, and broccoli were all well prepared and tasty. The waitress was the chef's wife and was super friendly and attentive. My favorite thing here is the Caribbean Chicken Salad that comes with a delicious creamy cucumber dressing that is out of this world. The salad itself is very simple, just romaine lettuce and strawberries and mandarin oranges and chicken, but the dressing is what makes it. I could literally just drink the dressing. I also love their meat lovers calzone, seriously the best calzone I've ever had. Loaded with meats and cheese. I'm sure it's calorie count is off the charts, but that's what makes it delicious right? Their pan fried raviloi is also very good. It isn't my most favorite Italian place, I've been to better, but it's nice to have an Italian spot in Yreka that at least makes good food. This place is simply adorable! Most reviews mention the waitress with the one black glove and I was confused about how a person could be that remarkable; now I understand. This waitress is unbelievably friendly, kind, and bubbly. Her particularly high voice only complemented her friendly demeanor. She is very accommodating, as my vegan friend asked about ingredients. Seating is spacious and the place seems fairly popular, contrary to our beliefs that it may be borderline abandoned because of its location. As for the food, I wasn't blown away but my friends really enjoyed their dishes. I won't deny that their bread is exquisitely fluffy and flavorful. Their salad is also surprisingly amazing for what it was: It contained romaine lettuce with sunflower seeds, raisins, artisanal croutons, red onion, and sliced Roma tomato tossed with creamy Italian (the dressing isn't vegan because it includes egg). The flavors wonderfully blend and it's delicious. The salad is a side for the entrees, but it comes in a large bowl for the table. We got another bowl and it seems like you could get unlimited salad and bread if you really wanted to. My friend and I both ordered the fettuccine Milano which had mushrooms, artichoke hearts, and sun-dried tomatoes. I personally wasn't a big fan of the overall flavor, but my friend rates it as five stars. Another friend had the shrimp scampi, which included some broccoli and an awkwardly small amount of angel hair pasta. She liked the portion size and the balance of garlic and lemon flavor, but it was a bit too salty. She ranked it four stars. Another had their "award winning combo" with lasagna-stuffed pastry, stuffed mushrooms, and tortellini. He really liked the cool ham cubes in the tortellini. It was interesting that the dish was split between half Alfredo and half marinara. The lasagna-stuffed pastry was deliciously flaky and I was a little jealous. Five stars for that one, even though it only came with two stuffed mushrooms. The rest of the dish compensated for the lack of mushrooms. My vegan friend had the penne de la casa. The penne was dressed in olive oil with some garlic. The olives and mushrooms added a fresh flavor and were well-cooked. He says it was four stars. Overall, portion sizes were smaller than typical, but plenty for a normal meal. Flavors were diverse and satisfying. Most importantly, the waitress brightens your day. We had a wonderful experience here at Strings. We walked two blocks from our hotel and stepped into Italian paradise. Well, that may be a slight exaggeration. We ordered mussels, veal Marsala and fettuccine Milano. Every dish was hot, flavorful and fresh! The salad was crisp and the house dressing spicy-good. What a great hidden gem. Stopped here for lunch while on a long road trip and it exceeded our expectations in every way. Our server, Kathleen, was one of the nicest people you could hope to meet and the food was excellent. The salad and bread tasted super fresh with excellent flavor. I ordered a meatball sandwich expecting the generic meatball, sauce, cheese combo. What I got was a few notches above that - really fresh, flavorful bread with meatballs, peppers, onions, cheese and excellent red sauce. L-O-V-E this place! Our hotel recommended Strings. We came in and were greeted by the nicest woman with absolutely beautiful eyes and a stunningly happy personality. She took time to get to know a little bit about us. I ordered the artichoke dip because I wasn't very hungry and my husband ordered the spaghetti with 2 meatballs and meat sauce. Both meals were excellent. The dip was light and tasty. My husband said the meatballs are the best he's ever had and the pasta with sauce was excellent. Oh, and the salad was also good. To me, this was just your typical Italian restaurant like Olive Garden, nothing too special or different. I don't know what it was but the service for me was slow. I was just there by myself and knew what I wanted but my waitress kept skipping me and serving those who came in after me. Basically I was there for 2 hours and all I had was one entree, dessert to go, and a glass of wine. I mean, they were busy because there was a large party but still. I ate here recently. Previously I've only ordered their minestrone soup, which I absolutely love. We decided to order stuffed mushrooms and the Chicken Parmesan. Unfortunately they were not very good in our opinion. The breaded chicken piece was rock hard and very dry like it had been frozen before it was cooked. The mushrooms just weren't something we liked.
