Strut Hair Solutions is truly that - they really do have a good solution to all your hair concerns. Kayla and the other girls at this shop are very knowledgeable, kind and fun to work with. I went into the shop a few years ago with a friend to get a wig for a cruise that we were taking when she confided in me that she often wore a wig ( I could never tell) and that she loved to take them on trips, especially cruises. I purchased two really fun wigs and wore them every night on that cruise. After that, I was spoiled, and I would pop a wig on whenever we went out at night at home, especially if the weather was humid or foggy, and I knew that my own hair would fizz up. Then things got serious and when a few months later I found myself going through Chemo and radiation and I really needed to wear a wig as my hair became very thin. The girls at Strut were wonderful and helped me find the perfect wigs and did a fabulous job of cutting and styling them for me. Now that my hair has pretty much recovered I still go into to purchase toppers that add volume to my hair and they look great! So glad that this store is here in our community. Absolutely AMAZING service!! Nori was incredibly helpful. We (my mother, father and I) stormed in, a ball of nerves and a whirlwind of energy, yet Nori greeted us and steered us through 3.5 hours of dedicated assistance. My mother just finished her chemotherapy and was very nervous. Nori kept our spirits high and was so patient as we all went back and forth trying to make this difficult decision. She trimmed the final wig ( my mother tried on about 20, and went back and fourth many times) and styled the winning wig in store so we were ready to hit the ground running!! I'd been wanting to check out City Wigs since it opened and finally made it in yesterday. What I saw was really impressive. Unlike a lot of wig stores, which feature dated, mostly short styles, City Wigs had a beautiful selection of long wigs and stylish shorter wigs, plus hair pieces and extensions. The wigs were easy to view in well-kept open surroundings. Besides a selection to do Southern California proud, there were service areas, including a special room in back for those who prefer to try on and style wigs in private, and there were open stations for cuts and styling. Helena, who i learned is the owner, greeted me as soon as I walked in. She spent a lot of time with me, and I learned she has a location that's been going strong in Fresno, California, for ten years - even through the economic downturn. She knows more about wigs and hair pieces than anyone I've ever met and last year published her own book on the subject. She apparently has a national reputation as a wig expert and consults and teaches for some of the top wig manufacturers in the world. I understand that she was asked specifically to open a store in North County due to the lack of quality wig retailers here. And for those who don't live so close by, I can tell you: it definitely is worth the drive. One thing I want to share to save hundreds -if not thousands- of dollars for anyone who needs or likes wigs and hair pieces: You can spend a lot money with online wig retailers, but because individual needs are so distinctive, it is MUCH smarter to go to a respectable store. That way you don't have to worry about mistakes in color, mis-impressions from photos, or how a particular hair piece will look on you. At the shop, you can try on the wigs - dozens if that's what it takes - to find your most flattering look before you part with your hard-earned cash. I'm pretty sure that services like the cut and fitting are included in the price at City Wigs, and it's a huge plus to have a knowledgeable, live person to help you in the selection process and answer any questions you might have. This is important because health codes - like those preventing the return of undergarments - prevent the return of wigs, making it especially important to get it right the first time. If you buy online, you may be stuck with a hair piece that doesn't work for you. Back to City Wigs specifically: the emphasis on modern styles and knowledgeable service, plus a clean and open presentation of merchandise, make it the best wig/hair piece/ extension store I have visited. When Jessica Simpson and Beyonce wear wigs every day, and others starlets get hair pieces and extensions for photo shoots, public appearances, and special occasions, it's nice to know that a work-a-day girl like me can go in for some star treatment and walk out camera ready. read more

I have had a wonderful experience in the Strut Hair Solutions in Solana Beach. Be careful about having your hairpiece cut or shaped here. I bought a beautiful hair topper for 1000.00 only to have it so badly cut I cannot wear it. Helena the owner could not have been more helpful even though at my scheduled appointment time she was having her hair highlighted. I now have a hairpiece and cannot wear it to my son's wedding. I already know that despite what Yelp claims this will be placed in the "inappropriate comments" section. If only one new customer sees this before that happens I will be happy I wrote this. I first came to City Wigs looking for a hair piece to compensate for my hair loss due to a minor illness. I was absolutely delighted to find so many current trendy styles in a variety of colors, lengths and textures. Helena was so welcoming, compassionate and well informed. We clicked immediately! She spent a lot of time with me as I tried on wigs, discussed the options available (real hair versus synthetic) and how to care for them. I left wearing an adorable wig, feeling so confident and happy! Now six months and many cute wigs later, I no longer need to wear one. However, since City Wigs offers all sorts of alternative hair solutions I continue to go there for tape in hair extensions. Jane is an awesome stylist and colorist! Recently she skillfully put in my extensions, highlighted my real hair, and blended the two so it looks simply beautiful! I've been to the store many, many times and I've personally witnessed both Helena and Jane provide the same outstanding personal attention, patience and compassion to all of their customers. It is a "whole solutions" hair salon in my opinion, not only a store for hairpieces. I am so happy with the service and products that I drive from El Cajon to Solana Beach because I can not find another place in San Diego that comes close to the same caliber as City Wigs. I am in love with my piece (and it's very easy to put in and take out) and have gotten SO many compliments when I wear it, which is pretty much all the time. I came into Strut about a 2 months after being diagnosed with breast cancer and right before my first chemo treatment. I wanted to purchase a wig before I lost my hair and as soon as I met Kayla I knew I was in the right place. My daughter was with me and Kayla let us both try on numerous wigs. She selected various wigs that matched my current style and color and helped make me feel comfortable with what would ultimately be very uncomfortable. I lost all my hair 2 weeks ago and started wearing my wig that I love. Kayla picked a winner and even cut bangs for it. Honestly everyone thinks I just got my hair done.! When I had to wash it this weekend for the first time I was so nervous I did it wrong I left a message at Strut and Kayla called me back and assured me I had done it correctly. I have never written a yelp report in my life, but I feel the public should know about this shop. Even though City Wigs has a large selection of wigs the owner/manager is extremely unethical. She charged us for a wig for my 88 year old mother, and what should have been a lovely surprise turned into a nightmare. My mother had previously bought a wig from her 6 months ago, and since she loved it, we decided to get another one for her birthday. The owner charged the price of the wig and mailing to Canada and said it was sent out. Almost 3 weeks after it should have arrived, mystery upon mystery, no wig. I found out she got around to sending it out on her schedule almost 2 weeks late, using USPS instead of FEDEX. I called her repeatedly about the wig not arriving, and she made excuses and was extremely passive aggressive. Low and behold, when it finally arrived, it was nothing like the first one. It was exactly 1/3 the size and multi-colored (brown, dark blonde, and blonde). I believe she knew it was the wrong wig when she mailed it!! I told her it was not in the store when we were there, but somehow she said she found one in the back. When I called her to tell her it was the wrong wig, she said, bring it back and I will refund the shipping and cost of the wig. This was a birthday gift and it has dragged on from January through the end of March. I called her today and she said she would refund the monies owed. My husband got to City Wigs (which is 1 hour drive each way) and the owner started to fight with him to get out of her shop. No refund!! Fighting about shipping costs! We have lived in San Diego for over 20 years and never had any experience like this! The owner is unethical and a liar. She does not stand by her product and took advantage of an 88 year old woman who lives in Canada!! We have invested countless phone calls telling her it did not arrive, it is being sent back, it is the wrong wig...She took no responsibility. She is a thief. I am writing this review so that no other woman young or old gets taken by this dishonest shopkeeper. read more
