We went for dinner, place was busy, didn't realize we needed a reservation, as if we were down in Sacramento. Luckily two bar seats opened up as we were waiting. As we got seated, the bartender was prompt, but was busy as he was the only one making drinks and taking orders. Which wasn't a probably since we were in no rush. Well once we ordered food, we started with a appetizer, the calamari, took about an hour to receive, once it came out they let us know they were out of sauce and didn't offer anything to go with it, I guess we were suppose to eat the dry fried calamari. Luckily the bartender paid attention and got us cocktail sauce. Following we ordered the cowboy (two meat) with brisket and pulled pork and a side of Mac and cheese. Another hour later we finally got our meals, again with no sauce and the meat was dry and tough. Once asked for bbq sauce, we ate it wasn't terrible but was disappointing. Not sure if this place is trying to become a steakhouse, but if so they need to go back to some roots and just serve some good smoked bbq and not try to fancy it up. We won't be returning for dinner. Went here a while back and it took 30 minutes to get our waters and tea, I thought that was strange as another table sat down and got their whole meal in that time. Then when we placed our order it took a long time for that to come out. This was during breakfast service, and I did wonder if we looked like city slickers too much and that's why we got pushed down the line? They were just reopening with new owners so I'll cut them some slack and try their bbq next time read more

I don't post a lot of reviews, but when I do it is because a place I a found a place that's worth talking about. Such is the case with stubbys bbq. It's a gem that is hidden in plain site. Having worked at a BBQ restaurant for multiple years, I consider myself a bit of a BBQ connoisseur... Stubby' did not disappoint. My only disappointment was not finding this place earlier. I had long horn, a smoked TRI tip sandwich, and my buddy had the western burger. We probably should have taken pictures, but it when it arrived we couldn't resist and jumped right in. The food was amazing, and the service was even better. If your in the mood for BBQ, this is your place. Great scenic drive, great food, great music, great service... Yesterday was our second visit to Stubby's as we came back for breakfast. Still haven't had the brisket because we keep showing up too early. Had the burger and pork selections on our first visit. Best burger ever! Seasoned hand-formed patty cooked to perfection with a nice soft flavorful bun. Pork was delicious with a little crispy edge to it. BBQ sauces were awesome - two to choose from - sweet and spicy. Had chicken fried steak and the meat lovers breakfasts. No frozen chicken fried steak here - hand-breaded prime rib. So much meat with the meat lovers breakfast! Meats had a nice smoky flavor - just enough but not too much. Great staff - the chef even came out and asked us how we liked our meals. Love that personal touch! We'll be back for brisket but we've found they do everything else well too! read more

I visited Stubbys when I checking out Cool. The smell of smoker is what got me in the door. The staff friendly and service was great. I went with the Brisket sandwich and Mac&Cheese. They brought out a spicy and a sweet sauce. Both were very tasty. I was expecting a nice size sandwich stacked with brisket. What I got was small sandwich with chunks of brisket. It was may have been around 3 1/2-4" long. Maybe 2-3 ounces of meat. The bun was good as was the brisket but it was more bread than brisket. The Mac & Cheese was very good but no bread crumb topping. I definitely expected more sandwich for a sandwich over $16. I doubt that I would eat there again with those portion size. read more

I stopped in for dinner for my 3-person family. First time here in my local town of Cool. Sad to say, it's a bit of a rip-off. $16 for a 1 meat dinner plate sounds good, honestly, but when we get the food and discover a half of a dry chicken breast and a single slice of brisket that is half fat. The side of beans were undercooked, and the mac&cheese was overcooked. The service was great, but the actual food is a joke. read more

After hiking near Cool, CA, my husband and I stopped there for lunch. What amazing food! He had baby back ribs (which they have Fri-Sun) and I had chili and their house salad. The chili was made with smoked tri-tip (just the right amount) and perfectly proportioned with beans and the other ingredients. So good! The house salad was more like a small Greek salad with tomatos, cucumbers, black olives, mushrooms, feta and dressing- just the right size. My husband loved the ribs with their spicy bbq sauce, but also said the sweet sauce was great. His coleslaw was the best! Savory with a tiny bit of sweet via the thinly sliced green apple in it. Light Mayo-based dressing, with fresh ground pepper. Delightful! Service was also very good. Have to go hiking up there again soon! Bravo! read more

Amazing!! I haven't even eaten the food that I had ordered for takeout yet..but just from the experience of placing my phone order alone I can tell you that Chris (presumably the head chef) is the most respectful and nicest guys I've come across! To be fair every worker there treated me nice as I walked in and the environment of the restaurant was very chill and relaxed! Even tho there was a mishap with my ticket not being printed when I had placed the order I was in no rush and was happy to sit there and check the place out! Chris got right on it and started making my burger, he approached me a couple times asking what kind of cheese I wanted, if there was any sauces I wanted and he went completely out of his way and made me a special avocado aioli that they had discontinued. He even let me taste it! It was bomb let me tell you..after the burger and fries were made for me he brought it out in the to-go container and showed me this masterpiece of a burger..I got hungrier than ever once he showed me it and I'll edit my review once I've taken the first bite! Thank you again Chris and Team over at Stubby's! Upon eating it my review still stands 5 stars all the way around! The burger was way bigger than I expected and it tasted amazing. Almost didn't finish everything it was a lot of food, additionally the price is great for around $17! read more

Ive been in a few times , least to say. GO SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! The environment was super dirty , there were multiple tables not clean when I went in and they remained dirty my entire time there. I ordered garlic fries for an appetizer , they came cold , I couldn't even taste the garlic all I can taste was oil and salt. I moved them off the plate to see how much excess oil was left and I could've deep fried them again with how much oil was on my plate. We also got mozzarella sticks , worst I've ever eaten!! the cheese wasn't melted at all , it was hard biting into. I didn't even finish it and left the last 5 on the plate. In my opinion it wasn't worth sending back after those and the garlic fries we paid for the tab and called it quits. The head chef came out and talked to us for a minute shook our hands as we thanked him for the food. We then watched him go back , not wash his hands and jump right into making more food. Disgusting right , also against health code regulations I believe ? I was greeted after 4 minutes of standing there while they had no customer with half their tables dirty. Their ticket times were insanely long and they have no proper restaurant etiquette. I will never be back to spend my money in there again. read more

My family and I just had lunch at Stubby's for the first time. We all ordered something different and everyone loved their food. The brisket was really tender and the bbq sauces are very good too. Kids loved the mac and cheese and the onion rings were the best I've ever eaten. Next time I"ll try the little street tacos. So happy to have a new good restaurant on the Divide. read more
