8oz filet, mashed potatoes and a little bread.
    Cam A.

Went for BBQ and got a steak. Unfortunately the only bbq they had was pulled pork or tritip. There was no chicken or bbq ribs available. The salad I ordered was good and fresh, the bread basket was tasty as well. The filet was a lower quality meat (probably choice) and the mashed potatoes were chunky. The steak was smothered in a sauce that wasn't very flavorful. When I had a bit of the meat that wasn't smothered in sauce the char was great and showed promise. A couple things that could help, if you order the filet, order the sauce on the side. Second if you are looking for bbq - check what days it's being served. Lastly, people were nice and attentive. A couple changes and this place could be really good. I'll be back for the ribs and see if it elevates the experience.

First, Stubby's has completely remodeled. And I don't mean just cosmetic, but full-on, professional, detailed remodel. I am not a contractor, but I do pay attention to detail; this remodel is 100% completed in such a way as to make all patrons feel like they are visiting ANY quality hometown restaurant. KUDOS to Brett and Ariel for their vision. Second, props to Tanya for her managing the front end. She handled a very busy night effortlessly, and you can tell she is enjoying her position with great care and positivity. She is a very valued member of the Stubby's team. Finally, props to Chris who manages the kitchen. Tuesday is prime rib night, and we are SOOOOO missed prime rib up in the divide since The Divide in Georgetown retired. The prime rib was 'chef's kiss!' It was perfectly paired with a baked potato and exceptionally seasoned zucchini squash. My only advice would be to offer creamy horseradish along with straight horseradish. Other than that, the meal was superb! Stubby's now offers an exciting selection of local beers and wine and now has an open bar for mixed drinks. Our local town has longed to the opportunity for classy dining experience; Stubby's has answered that call, finally!

Tuesday, December 24, 2024, and we're ready to enjoy an amazing Christmas eve breakfast at Stubby's Breakfast and BBQ, located in Cool, CA.

Stubby's Breakfast and BBQ is a small, family owned and operated restaurant in the Sierra Nevada foothill town of Cool, CA that specializes in delicious barbecue, with a twist... as both barbecue and breakfast are served every day the restaurant is open. The main dining offers seating at high tables, regular tables along with a small counter that has four seats. There are a couple of video monitors that were tuned to one of Sacramento's popular weekday morning shows. The restaurant has a simply inviting patio, but sitting outside wasn't an option on this rainy December morning. Note the large smoker at the rear of the patio, which is covered to protect the pitmaster from the elements. Stubby's off two varieties of in-house made barbecue sauce, "Sweet" or "Spicy." I tried both and both were delicious, Texas-style barbecue sauce, but the spicy type won my heart. From the "Breakfast" section of the menu, I went with "The Basic." The menu lists many choices, and I went with tri-tip, hashbrowns, eggs fried sunnyside up, and sourdough toast. Stubby's is a barbecue restaurant, so tri-tip, barbecued over oak wood in the smoker, was my choice of meat. The tri-tip was sliced against the grain of the meat, tender, juicy and simply delicious. The meat was perfectly barbecued to medium, maybe a little towards the rare side of the fence, with just a hint of smoke that you could taste, that enhanced the flavor of the beef, but didn't overpower it. Smoked tri-tip beef for breakfast certainly works for me! Pitmaster Chris has talent! I went with hashbrowns - other choices were country potatoes or fruit - and I enjoyed some outstanding hashbrowns. The large slab was cooked to an almost-crunchy golden brown on the outside - just the way I like them - and were white, tender and juicy on the inside. Come for the meat, but stay for the hashbrowns! As per my order, my two eggs arrived fried sunnyside up, and were fried perfectly. The sourdough toast arrived toasted and buttered. The Coors Light beer worked as an appetizer... or was it dessert? I must confess that after cutting up my tri-tip, I simply couldn't resist dipping it into a scoop in-house made barbecue sauce. I tried both varieties, both were flavorful and delicious, but the "Spicy BBQ" won out. My breakfast was simply delicious! The barbecued tri-tip beef was the "star" of breakfast, but the crispy hashbrowns were a runner up, and the sides rounded out the delicious breakfast. My friends Dan and Steve agreed their breakfasts were delicious. Simply said, Stubby's Breakfast and BBQ serves a delicious gold country breakfast in Cool! You'll simply love the great barbecue, breakfast, the rural atmosphere and the friendly hospitality that Chris and his staff offer. The fine cuisine offered at this restaurant will put a smile on the face of anyone who appreciates a fine breakfast, served by friendly staff. Oh yes... the barbecue is outstanding! During your travels to the gold country, you can enjoy your breakfast... along with fine barbecue at Stubby's Breakfast and BBQ, located in Cool, CA. Five star dining in every way.

It is one of the few restaurants that is around the area. Drove by here before when we were visiting Cool, Ca. We told ourselves if we ever came back we needed to stop in this place and check it out. We stopped in for breakfast on a Friday morning. It's a cute little mom and pop restaurant when you walk in and it has out door seating as well. We were greeted right away, were seated and given menus right away. The menu is easy to go thought, hubby ended up getting the chicken fried steak and I got the hot mess plate. Hot mess is 3 over easy eggs over their country potatoes, mushrooms, onion and their homemade gravy. Food came out quick and the servers were very attentive. They kept coming back to check on us to ensure that we had everything that we needed. Definitely cute little mom and pop restaurant.

My friends I went hiking at the nearby trail. This place is a great stop near the trail to go and grab something to eat! The food tasted great and fresh. We had some small critiques, but nothing too major. The beer battered onion rings had a little too much batter. They were out of regular shoestring fries for the garlic fries, so we subbed it for curly fries. The mac and cheese had some jalapeño flavor, which wasn't stated o the menu. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing as it was delicious, but it was unexpected. The service was a bit finicky. The waitress we had was new so she was getting used to the ropes. The kitchen staff even came out instead to deliver our food to the table. The store had an overall great ambience. There's lot of natural lighting and seating. Great place to grub at after a hike and catch up with friends.

We were off to a good start. Our waitress came and told us the specials and updated drink orders while we looked the menu over. Pricing gets your attention right away. It's pretty pricey. They charge $3 dollars for bread service, which literally is a piece of bread about 4 inches long cut into tiny slices. We need several of those and then proceeded to order a variety of food. The service was inconsistent. Our server didn't check on us very often but the server taken care of water refills was doing a good job. When our food came, I think we all felt that flavor-wise it was pretty good. My husband ordered one of the specials, which was a Mandarin chicken with ginger rice. When the server took our order and he said that he'd have the chicken, she did not confirm whether it was the special or what was apparently their regular roast chicken so she brought in the regular chicken. When we brought this to her attention, she said "oh well note for next time". For the cost of the meal we were having that really should've been handled with a simple. "I'm so sorry I misunderstood. Let me go and get the rice for you," but she didn't do that. Very disappointing. One of the people in our party had a steak that she barely ate any of it. She didn't like the sauces that were with it. I had the rabbit with noodles, which was tasty. All in our group which of the experience about 80 out of 100. While we enjoyed an evening out with friends most of us said that was a one and done because we won't be going back.

A lot of ground to cover, with all the levels and Upstairs/downstairs. Makes it hard for staff! But this owner made it into two spaces. Downstairs more causal and upstairs more fine dining. Reminds me of the stone house in grass valley. Same concept. The decor facelift from previous restaurant makes it feel less weird. Very nice colors etc. brings it all together. The bar is cute but would need more appetizer food options and cheaper for me to want to sit there! The waiter was very nice and did his job well. We did however have to wait quite a long time for our food which seems to be the theme in the reviews. Drinks also took a minute, but again It's a big space so lots of orders coming through--Inside and outside. And understaffed. Now for the food: We were a group of 7, which this place can accommodate. But for a hefty price. For 7, you will pay under $600-$700 easily. Unfortunately, this price tag will possibly sink the ship. We did not order any of the steaks as the reviews weren't great there. But what we did order was not at all price comparable. One of dishes was a fried cheese (size of a iPhone 13) with 5 asparagus. $36!!! And that was it! See photo. The asparagus, egg and mushroom appetizer had more going on. But unfortunately the flavors were not working together. It was like having separate items on one plate. I had the lamb salad. Not what I expected. The lamb was like smoked shredded meat. A little tough and the salad dressing was too spicy for a salad! It took away all the flavors. Now, if you were to put this dish into a few corn tortillas, and call it a lamb tacos, it would have worked way better! But not for the price tag. I didn't get a picture of it but the elk was beautifully done. The best meal on the table with a wine/berry sauce. Overall price point is too high. Quality is middle. So you don't want to pay the high price. Sorry Oakhouse!

She patiently explained the menu and answered all of our questions. We ordered across the menu: a ribeye, a filet, the salmon, and one of the daily specials, scallops. We also ordered the Brie and bacon jam appetizer and one of our party had a Caesar Salad. There were a couple of substitutions: extra spinach instead of mashed potatoes with the salmon and fingerling potatoes instead of the mashed potatoes with the ribeye. I ordered the Brussels sprouts as well. Everything was delicious and prepared exactly as ordered. The proteins were substantial, well worth the price. We tried two desserts, the crème brûlée and the banana cheesecake. They matched the quality of the entrees. Everyone remarked on how great the sourdough bread that was brought to the table was. As the ladies in our party said, you could make a meal out of the bread along with some cheese and wine. We were seated in one of the side rooms, which didn't seem to hinder the service at all. Our water glasses were promptly refilled. It was a great experience.

FOOD we started with the chilled prawn cocktail. the prawns were fantastic, and the cocktail sauce was divine. we jumped into a cup of lobster bisque; which was something i was looking forward to. unfortunately, the soup tasted like a very bland tomato fish soup. ugh. it lacked flavor and i don't think there was hardly any lobster in it. major bummer! we go the surf and turf (with lobster), the rib eye, and mushrooms and brussels to accompany the steaks. TONS of food, which was nice (especially for the price)! both steaks were ordered medium rare; the filet was cooked as ordered and the rib eye was on the medium/medium well side. however, the major bummer with the rib eye was the menu states well marbled but the steak gas VERY fatty when you're paying $62 for a USDA prime, "well-marbled" (per the menu's description) steak, the last thing i'd expect is to describe the steak as more fatty then marbled. the sides were great; the garlic mashed potatoes with the soy wasabi sauce were incredible! SERVICE our server started out very attentive and progressively we saw him less and less throughout the night; waiting for the check, needing water refills, etc. i get that everyone has busy tables and the F&B industry is having a tough time, but dang. at a place like this, i'd expect top notch service throughout the dining experience! AMBIANCE it's very nice inside. super cool bar when you first walk in. lots of spacious seating so you're not sitting on top of one another and modern decor. after having worked in F&B, i totally understand the industry; some nights people call out, larger parties consume the kitchen, etc. but for the price, nothing really seemed to blow us out of the water :( hopefully it was just a bad night that we went. it has a great reputation for a reason! hoping the next visit is a better experience!

We ordered the wedge salad and surf and turf to share. Both were a perfect amount of food to share. The wedge comes with two iceberg lettuce pieces so it's actually perfect for two. It had thick bacon pieces, tomatoes, pickled onions, radish, cucumbers and blue cheese dressing. I loved it. Very fresh and the dressing was sweet. The surf and turf had a HUMONGOUS lobster tail and an 8 oz filet mignon. Seriously, I could barely even finish the lobster tail it was sooo big! It was very fresh, not fishy whatsoever, and came with a butter dish and lemon. It was the best lobster tail I've had in a long while. The filet was more rare than medium rare. But we ended up taking it to go because we were so full, so when I warmed it and ate it later it was perfectly medium rare to eat. Overall I loved my dinner at Henry's! It was a great experience.

The ambience was genuine French countryside (with a mix of a sports bar inside that didn't really match??), but given everything else was off the charts we didn't mind. The service was 5-star level with their manners, panache, and the knowledge and experience you would only expect at a Michelin-grade chophouse. The food. Spectacular. No words. Presentation was surprisingly impressive even with their side dishes. Their New Zealand Lamb Chops were criminal. Lamb will never be the same after having theirs. It. Was. Perfect. I did not care for any of their side sauces, which were on point, but I just prefer a simpler wine sauce. The wife ordered the Filet Mignon, which was prepared perfectly and was that melt in your mouth tenderness you hope for. Their included sides were asparagus, glazed carrots, AND mashed potatoes which were all fantastic. Appetizer was a jumbo white prawn cocktail which was good (wife birthday choice ;), even though I was eying their Wood Oven Oyster Rockefeller with spinach, bacon, and bearnaise sauce. Next time...sigh. The dessert was so good it was like torture after being so full. Thought I just had the best cheesecake ever that weekend at the Fairmont which was a Pistachio cheesecake with Boscotti crumbles. This blew it away. DARK CHCOLATE OREO CRUSTED WITH A DARK CHEERY COMPOTE. O.M.G. Wife had a banana crème brûlée which was equally amazing. Oh and they forced us to have as many dessert drinks as we liked (her bday came in handy) on a drink cart. (A full bar lol from scotches, sherries, brandies, ports, any style of chocolate liqueur). This will be our new home kitchen away from home. 20/10 rating.

The dish had good flavor with the highlight being how fresh the shrimp tasted. Next level freshness that would resonate through the meal. The one thing I would adjust with this dish is the level of crispiness. I normally order fries extra crispy and I should have done the same with this. Next was the french onion soup and the Caesar salad. The soup was classic style with the onions being on the sweeter side. Good rendition. The salad was something that my friends had raved about and it was quite good. Nothing wrong with it but I have had better. The presentation was cool too. For my entree I had the ribeye steak. It comes with potatoes and vegetables. The steak was good but I would have preferred a higher char level. I ordered medium rare and it was closer to medium. Cooked at a higher temp for a shorter time would have been better, still the steak had good flavor. The potatoes and veggies were uninspired but there was nothing wrong with them. I order fries on the side which like the calamari could have been crispier. The peppercorn sauce was delicious. My wife had one of the specials for her entree, the ahi poke salad. This dish was delicious. Again the freshness of the seafood stood out. A terrific balance of flavors with some wasabi heat. 10 for 10. It was my birthday so the restaurant gave me a free chocolate mousse dessert which was delightful. All in all a good meal. We will likely return but next time focus on the seafood as I believe this is where Cordeiro's excels.

The martinis are fabulous; I ordered the lavender lemon drop and it was hands-down one of the best I've had. It was also nice to see that they carry locally made South Fork vodka. I had the chicken piccata for dinner and it was outstanding, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. We came in with my husband, my in-laws, and our two kids, and everyone genuinely enjoyed themselves. The kids' menu was great, which kept the kiddos happy, and the atmosphere felt welcoming for both adults and families. Overall, fantastic drinks, great food, and wonderful service. We'll definitely be back!

No wonder it was packed! The food was great. Service was great! I got the ribeye which was cooked perfectly median rare with charred flavor. The bread that came for the table was crispy outside and soft inside. It's surprisingly tasty!! I have to mark this place for must stop when I come to Reno next time!
