My wife is a SBNP'er and is extremely dedicated and diligent to their workouts... I would say that the establishment is 99% female considering the nature of the workout and the environment... If you are a dude there and want to take a class, they are very protective and professional, as they want to make it a safe space for women to be able to work out in peace without harassment. When I took a class there, I was there to support my wife Aimee, so they knew my intention... This was my first time attending studio barre! I wanted to try it out because of class pass and I was thoroughly impressed Kailey was the front desk receptionist who was helpful and had good energy. Shannon was the instructor and I loved her class. There was a variety of instruction which I like in a class: bands, barre, weights, stretching, skaters, ball and floor work (abs and booty). Shannon had both encouragement and great energy. This was my second barre class in the last two years and I appreciated the feedback on my form (needed and appreciated). I took barre devotedly, twice a day, at the founder's studio and four other locations over five years in San Diego. I moved to LA in July and thought it would be an easy transition to a new home at this Newbury Park studio. Instead, I received a refund after one month. I've tried to forget this inhospitable experience from summer, but I should share the facts for others seeking a total body workout that allows for modifications for YOU...and then I'll forget all about it. Barre always allows modifications; instructors often put weights in my legs during lifts (in San Diego) and swapped my three-pound weights for fives. Tough love. ;) This led to the most bizarre studio/gym/workout experience, maybe ever. At this studio, only modifications that *lower* the barre are allowed. I used hand weights during leg workouts and never missed a beat. Fifteen minutes, into class, an older botoxed plastic surgery lady started screaming and spitting in my face, telling me to f--- off because I was throwing her off and should open my own gym. I told her three times--during COVID--to back off my mat because she was spitting inches from my face. The instructor stood idly by, totally impotent. I wondered what would set someone off? And why was she watching me instead of focusing on her own workout? I found out after her tirade when I saw her struggling to keep up, taking repeated breaks, and keeping half time. A total, pathetic fail. I emailed the owner. The result? No apology. Just an offer of a refund. So don't waste your time if you truly want a total body workout and aren't a Stepford Wife. Since leaving, I've received amazing results mixing up my workout, so happy trails! And I won all my Studio Barre t-shirts in challenges so although they will be wasted, they were free. read more
