Yall are absolutely wild for hyping this place up. The egg itself was overcooked so the egg was grey and rubbery inside of a fried casing. And the Mac ? I know pleasing a southerner is hard when it comes to comfort food but this was so grainy and chewy in the worst way, with the smallest bit of lobster on top. These two dishes and a small glass of coke came to $70+. Absolutely wild. HOWEVER, our server was amazing. He was super attentive and checked on us multiple times. I came here to celebrate my birthday and was really excited about ordering my meal and enjoying a nice dinner. My wife's meal came out first, and at first I thought maybe mine was just taking a little longer. Unfortunately, she ended up finishing her entire meal while mine never came out at all. When I asked the waiter about it, he claimed that he had put my order in, but it was obvious that he had simply forgotten and then tried to cover it up. This situation really shows the importance of writing orders down instead of relying on memory, because mistakes like this completely ruin the dining experience. This was supposed to be a special birthday dinner, and instead it turned into frustration and disappointment. I had high hopes for this place, but the poor service ruined the night. read more

This hurts because we sincerely wanted to love it! We tried this place a few different times to give it a fair chance. My overall take is that I feel like all resources were expended on the beautiful ambiance. The food is disgusting and 2 out 3 times was simply inedible. Although gorgeous, seating is super tight that we have been constantly bumped.... like CONSTANTLY! Our 1st server seemed overbearingly annoyed that we had questions about the menu instead of being dazzle by the pretty decor. When asked where they oysters were from and when they were received, he kept saying he didn't know but they must have just gotten them. We asked if he could find out, he sighed and rolled his eyes and gave us a condescending 'SUUUUURE'... (we love oysters and always ask the same questions when we order them because shellfish can be tricky.) Our server came back with the answers to our questions and we ordered 1/2 a dozen. They were in a large plate on ice with 2 lemon slices, ketchup, and marinated onions that was supposed to be mignonette and placed atop a hot pizza rack... our table was tiny so it took up A LOT of space so I removed the rack and placed the tray on the table. I asked for horse radish, hot sauce, more lemons,and an oyster fork. He told us they didn't have oyster forks and where was the rock salt for the ice?... odd. By this time our drinks had come out as well. My lemon drop martini tasted like medicine so I asked for a diet coke instead. Our server insisted more than 4 times that the bartender would just remake the drink. Apparently I NEEDED to drink what he told me to. I took a sip of the remade drink, it was an overly sweet lemonade that ended up just taking up space. We had ordered the half chicken and glazed pork belly (see pictures). The chicken was ridiculously dry yet had disgusting soggy and seemingly fried skin that was doused in some sort of sauce. It was on top of very overcooked mushy rice and topped with dried lemon slices that were inedible and disgusting. The glazed pork belly was 2 cuts of dry pork with a dollop of bbq sauce on top. We were starving and didn't care at this point so we tried to eat but it was literally inedible. I was seated facing the mirrored wall and there was only 3 other parties when we arrived. I got to watch our server complaining about everything to the bartender and then to the general manager. After about an hour and a half, the general manager came over. She told us that our server was informed of our aforementioned menu questions and they did in fact have oyster forks. She informed us of her title of General Manager over SEVEN times and apologized that 'someone of my CALIBER' had a less than great experience. I made sure to let her know that I don't have any CALIBER I just like to eat food. As a general manager of a new restaurant, wouldn't you be sure to quality check orders leaving the kitchen when there was only a handful of customers? I'm sorry, this food seems cheap and previously frozen with a microwave doing most of the work. read more

We finally got around to trying brunch a few times and the chilaquiles are definitely a shareable portion and a nice kick to them and they do the eggs any style you like. Waffle is super fluffy and fried chicken is a thick and juicy piece. Eggs Benedict was also amazing and filling. They also have new weekly specials: whiskey Wednesday and Thirsty Thursday and a surf and turf Sunday. We've tried the surf and turf so far and it's such a great deal for a generous portion of filet and lobster that are both very tasty along with potatoes and seasonal veggies! They also have 50% off wine on Sundays. The speciality cocktails for the holidays are delicious! I don't even like mezcal and the red dress was one of the best cocktails I've ever had! Had a great time the first visit! Everything I tried was awesome and would definitely recommend. The only gripe (slight one) is the waitress seemed to know nothing about the menu and kept having to walk back to ask the kitchen staff. All should be aware of their menu. The other thing is, I asked which type of Wagyu their Wagyu cheeseburger is and they said it was Japanese Wagyu; I highly doubt it as it looked, felt and tasted like American Wagyu. Wow! We've been wanting to come here since it opened and we finally did - IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! So excited for downtown Upland to introduce a high end restaurant. The food was delicious, drinks were excellent, upbeat jazz/house music in background that allows for conversation! Only recommendation is to adjust AC vents so the air doesn't hit the table directly - our food got cold fairly quickly because of the AC. As far as service, everything was timely, both food and drinks were well prepared and arrived timely. Just moved nearby and heard a lot about this place from friends and Downtown Upland's social media page. I came here for a date night at around 9:05 but instead of greeting us we were immediately told that the kitchen was closed. Told the taller light skin gentleman that it says you guys close at 10pm but he replied that last call was at 9pm (which I didn't really believe). I asked if we can at least sit at the bar and have a drink and he said that bar was closed as well with a very annoyed tone directed towards us. That's when I got the hint that they just didn't really want to have any more work to do. I would understand that response from them if I walked in 5-10 minutes before closing but almost an hour? I'm sure on a different day someone there would've been willing to welcome us in but I guess we got unlucky that night. Don't want to say anything super negative about the individuals because I'm sure they had a long day at work and they were just trying to get out of there that night but not even allowing us to have a drink an hour before close is unacceptable. Don't think I'll be back here to be honest but hopefully they are a little more welcoming to guest who aren't able to make it in earlier in the day. read more

Tried out just opened Studio Four29 for dinner and was really impressed! Started with the fried deviled eggs and oysters--both were delicious. For the main course, the Wagyu burger and bourbon-glazed pork belly were cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. Finished with the peach cobbler, which was good but not great--it almost tasted more like apples than peaches. The atmosphere was great, and the service was solid. That said, I'm definitely looking forward to going back and trying more from the menu! read more

We called to ask if we could eat outside with our dog and if they could make some food for her and we're told yes on the phone. When we arrived, I confirmed again that they could make a dish for the dog and were told yes. However, after we were seated, Christian our waiter told us they couldn't per the manager. So we left. I would have understood if they told us upfront they couldn't prepare a meal for the dog but to be told twice they could then told no by a rude waiter, that's just not cool. What an awesome night!!! We celebrated our daughters graduation and mothers birthday here on a Saturday night. We had a group of 18 and the service was incredible, the food was absolutely delicious and we never wanted for anything. Not many places can do that with such ease. Most of our party had not been there before and could not stop raving about it. Even got calls and texts the following day saying how much they loved the restaurant. So first and foremost, this place is very nice, the decor was beautiful and vibe was pleasant. I really loved their bathrooms, they were extra clean and comfortable. I didn't get our servers name but she had brassy blonde hair, she was very kind and attentive. For drinks we ordered the Jagger tequila cocktail, it was pretty good 8/10, and a classic old fashion with Old Foresters which was also good 9/10. The food however was a little disappointing, great presentation, but the flavors were not there. We ordered the Wagyu burgers $26 each, came with a side of fries, and they were extremely salty. Probably the saltiest burger I've ever had. My boyfriend was so hungry he ate all of his but I couldn't enjoy mine. I had to send it back, the salt was over powering the entire burger. I thinks it's because they add some type mustard seed sauce that seems to have hits of horse radish in it, as well as bacon and the burger seasoning. Too many spices going on. They brought me a fresh burger but it still wasn't good. The Wagyu burgers were 4/10. We also ordered the Lobster Mac and cheese and we were also pretty disappointed with it as well. The flavor was very mid, seemed to be missing seasonings and hardly any lobster in it for $32. It was a good portion, but definitely not worth the price. I would still recommend this place to friends and family since it was overall a good time but I would recommend trying different entrées. read more

This is a great addition to downtown Upland. An upscale joint that stylistically fits into the Upland vibe, the food we got was great and we'll be back to try more of the menu. We got a good way through the drink menu and they're all interesting and different and full of subtlety with nothing overpowering anything else. So, let me start this off by saying this was mine/our experience. 1st I called to make reservations for 7people ok cool they got it. Called last week to update reservations from 7 to 9 people & explained need separate checks (not a problem). Called 2 nights ago (while on speaker phone) and asked if we are allowed to bring in a cake... person said "oh yeah of course". Got there tonight.... absolutely fabulous place/ gorgeous & stunning.... Greeted by Berlin (she so nice). Couple people went to bar to get drinks because it was happy hour. On the menu says well drinks for happy hour. So, our person ordered regular short glass margarita & charged full price. Argued to bartender about the price because it says well drinks (no description on the menu). (Yes, margaritas are commonly considered well drinks because they use basic, house-pour liquors (tequila, triple sec/orange liqueur, lime juice, sweetener) that are readily available in a bar's speed rail, fitting the definition of using standard, budget-friendly spirits unless a premium brand is specified. They're a classic, easy-to-make cocktail perfect for serving as a well drink, often featuring simple recipes and mixers according to online & the bartender sitting at our table). However, he would not adjust the price. At this time I realize the table they reserved is only for 7 but not a problem Berlin switched that quickly. As we are sat at the table rhe next lady comes over (by the way never said her name) and let us know she will be taking care of us. Explains happy hour & I then asked question about the Margarita & the price she says thar it not considered well drink. Moving on I announce to table it is happy hour and drinks and appetizer on happy hour so we ordered. Well, 1 group ordered the cheese charcuterie board (happy hour), Deviled eggs.... furthering on we cut our cake we brought and eat it as well as give a slice to Berlin... the waitress then comes over and says I will waive it this time but next time there is a $3/pp charge for cake slicing... I explained we called and was told it was ok.... ordered food (pork belly person got was soooo over cooked and didn't want to say anything because they already had the issue with the drink & the restaurant not accommodating). Going further bills come out and I hear that the people who ordered the cheese plate was charged full price.... at this point I ask our waitress who was manager and she said she was. So, I then went down the line of what was the issues for the night and although she did correct the bill she telling me she paid out of pocket for the plate.... I know that not right. She went on to tell me how her family owns this restaurant & Allegro. I don't care. I care about what is going on at the time of our experience. Finally, she had to have gone in the back to speak of the situation because the other staff standing just beyond the curtain talking to Berlin was looking right at my group and snickering. Very rude. To have this many issues and then to find out she was the manager and took on the large group (there other staff that can earn the tips). Like I said she did fix that except the drink & still continued to debate why it's not a well drinks. So... my suggestions: #1- print on the happy hour the exact drinks included #2- announce your name #3- specify when taking orders if what the person is asking for is what you are assuming #4- Do not tell customers that your family own the place & Allegro when there are issues and concerns being brought up to you #5- As a business owner do not throw people in the management position that is not ready for it because this person is not As a consensus of the table everyone said they would not come back. That is 8 different people. Like I said at the beginning this is mine/our experience please do not allow you to determine that you will not try this place e because your experience may be better than ours. read more
