Worst experience I've ever had at a dine in theater. Chairs are old, worn out, and hard to adjust. Their oven was down so couldn't order anything I actually wanted. Popcorn and food came out before our drinks and to top it all off, food was barely warm. Complete mess all around. read more

I wanted to see Oppenheimer in the morning and at someplace I could eat. SMG has gluten free pizza and burger buns, that works, and I enjoy the SMG in Lincoln Square. So when we saw the South Arlington SMG had an Oppe showing at 10:45, we decided to go. The theater felt like a ghost town both outside and in. It almost looked closed as we approached the entrance. No people around, old movies on the marquee, tumbleweeds rolling by. There was no staff when we got inside, no one at the bar. Totally quiet. The lobby smelled musty. An employee appeared out of nowhere and printed our tickets, she was very kind. Our servers were great, too. The movie was great and sounded great but the food was not great. My GF pizza was undercooked and doughy and not hot. Jon said his burger was mediocre and they were out of cheddar cheese. The gourmet popcorn was delicious, however. And of course the sour patch kids. We should just stick with the classics, candy and popcorn! You can't go wrong. read more

Came here with my mother and her friends, during the day ($6.00 on Tuesdays), to see the Color Purple. The tickets were self pay and we were able to walk straight to the theater. The theater was pretty packed with people but we were able to find out seats quickly. The overall look of the theater is a little run down and you have to manually push the seat back for it to recline. The workers were efficient and fast with ordering, etc. I ordered a large popcorn ($8.50, no refills) and 2 drinks ($6 a piece) and our total came out to be approximately $23-25 due to the 18% they automatically add. The temperature in the theater was fine and we overall enjoyed the movie. I doubt I'll come back to this location and only came here due to being invited. By the way, the movie was great! read more

Ick. I haven't been here in years and I'm thankful for that. The theater is shabby. The fake leather is peeling from the seats and armrests. The seats have to be manually reclined. The call buttons to order food don't work. Our order taker said they need new batteries. We had to go down our row to find a working button. We ordered one serving of four chicken tenders with fries and one drink. The total was $27.00, including the mandatory 18% service charge. Never again. Much improved experience from last summer! Staff were nice - the ticket personnel was funny, waiter was friendly. Place looked cleaner this time, recliner seats were comfortable, attached tables were clean. The movie screen & sound were great, as expected in a theater. The cheese fries topped with bacon were delicious, with generous tasty cheese, the full portion was almost same as half portion though (smaller side). The southwest eggrolls appetizer were the best - very tasty, great combination of flavors of the black beans, other fresh fillings, & seasonings, in fried crunchy wrappers, just delicious! The hatch chili pasta was edible, decent portion but tasted like boxed Mac & cheese with pieces of chicken breast. The chicken strips were fresh & crunchy, good but not spectacular. The queso was a tasteless blob of nasty goop, the sliders had some terrible seasoning and didn't seem cooked fully, the pizza hada ton of sauce that was dumped over and and saturated (i asked for xtr sauce, but that was ridiculous) it was soggy. The choc shake was a water mixture. Absolutely disgusting. She said my bill was $56. I asked to see rcpt. She said it was a mistake, the total was around $43. (She said the discounts weren't added when she gave me the first amount and asked of that was ok). Wouldn't recommend this place. We took 1 bite of everything. I will say one of the draw backs to eating here is you automatically are charged 18% gratuity. The service was fine considering the staff's primary job was to serve people who may have wanted a drink or dessert before or after their movie. I was very impressed by the attentiveness to refills, it was completely unexpected. Sadly, the pop was flat... so that was a bit of a let down. Sweet potato fries were also super soggy. Portions were great, I was surprised to hear the entrees came with fries. Boneless wings were pretty close to delicious although a couple were over cooked. As any frequent reviewer of my posts know, I like to periodically (annually) re-review my reviews as things can change. Sometimes businesses close, get bad, or sometimes, better. This is one of those posts. Yes, I know I've been bad about checking in, but I just had a son, so I've been a bit busy. Plus, since the Pandemic, we've been getting deliveries from here more than actually picking stuff up. Update. I tried them again the last time we were in Texas, and they are still just as bad. I realize that this movie theater is not open right now, and hopefully, when it opens back up, they can be better. Perhaps, we'll try them out again because I'm a masochist apparently. The customer service, cleanliness, and general service has progressively gotten worse and worse. I say this as a person that has spent at least $100 a month here for the better part of two or three years because it's the closes SMG location. Forgive me, but I'm lazy. Each time we come to this SMG, we have a different experience, but we have not had an "amazing" experience in a very long time. In fact, I cannot even remember the last time we didn't have issues with something. Generally, we do not get our drinks or food until halfway through the movie. The drinks are usually watered down (unless you get them at the bar), the food is sometimes cold or warm from being left on a tray for too long, and we've had multiple experiences where the tea tastes rancid. Yes, you read that correctly, rancid. Another example of how terrible this location has become occurred when we received our check. We noticed that they charged us double, and we asked for assistance. But, the waiter told us that the manager informed him that we would nonetheless have to pay the bill. So, we were forced to wait until after the movie to speak with the manager directly. After explaining the situation to the manager, he insisted the bill was correct. We re-explained the situation, and the manager eventually fixed our bill, after wasting our time and ruining the ending of our movie. Essentially, rather than just taking the double charge off our bill (which only amounted to $5), the manger instead decided to insinuate that we were liars. So, after spending at least $1,200 a year at this place, staying loyal, even in the face of ever sliding customer service, this guy decided to call my girlfriend and I liars OVER $5!!! Now, I realize $5 is not much in the grand scheme of things, and part of me wanted to let this all go. But, at some point, you have to ask yourself when enough is enough. And, for me, this was my enough point. Simply put, there are too many other options in the area to drink and eat during a movie to deal with this place. My love affair with the SMG in the highlands has been over for a long time, and I still do not recommend this location. Even SMG corporate has stopped trying to respond to the crazy number of bad reviews! When corporate has given up, you know this place is bad. read more

I asked for boneless wings, but they were out. Almost half of the menu was unavailable. I don't think I will be back. Online ticket purchase is fast & easy, BUT remember to print tickets with email code at kiosk inside the door (or with cashiers) before heading to theaters. Seats are UH-mazing recyclers. Servers are wonderful, responsive, & patient. Food is pretty good, but starters are the better choices flavor wise AND the popcorn is to-die-for (esp if you purchase add-on dill sprinkle o.O). Our "waitress" never came back after dropping off the first 1/2 of our food (without drinks), and after that we were helped by the managers. We asked every 20-30 minutes where the food was, since they kept saying "we're making it now" and "it'll be out in 7 minutes". The managers finally got us water after 45 minutes of waiting. After the movie, I wasn't delivered a bill like normal - only to get home and they had charged me for our food AND the of the people next to us. The customer service email is ready to help until they actually have to refund your money and then it's like pulling teeth trying to get someone to contact you and get your money back. read more

It's worth a Groupon visit ($5 for a movie). The one nice plus is the inexpensive price to see a flick on the big screen. The theater seats were run down. My cousin swapped out her seat for one that didn't have those tiny micro tears that happen with "pleather" seats. I had to wipe crumbs off my seat. Everyone knows "pleather" does not work in the hot, humid South. All SMG's have sub par food and weak cocktails, so I won't comment on that - it's the same at all of them. If SMG owners would actually put together a tasty menu and some nice cocktails, their theaters would offer a nice experience. I only have wine here when it's $5 day. That's the only time it's worth it. They get two stars because this location has nice, friendly staff. Well, if you're just going to catch a flick, then grab a Groupon and head here. Had we not ran into the manager we would've more than likely have gone without. I am not ever going back so how will replacement tickets help me? The food was disgusting so the only reason to go to an SMG is to eat while you watch the movie. If I am going to just watch a movie, I am going to a Cinemark or other theater. Duh. I am thinking I don't want food poisoning with old dry food or food that sat out all day so it's a hard no for me. But before the server put in our order she said she needed to pre authorized my cc. Well, that is not the case...I'm here at 11:33am only to be informed that the Box Office personnel aren't in...thus I cannot purchase tickets until noon. Please correct all sites that show you open at 11:30 a.m. The SMG website says "The SMG Arlington Highlands box office opens one hour before the first scheduled movie of the day and closes 15 minutes after the start of the last scheduled showtime." This is not true. SMG doesn't open one hour before the first scheduled movie. Today the first scheduled movie starts at 12:30 p.m. and the theater is not open. read more

Took my 6 year old to see inside out. We arrive at 5:30 pm, lady who took our order had an attitude because my son pressed the service button. Didn't get a how are you or what would you like to order. I ordered a margarita & either she didn't hear me ask for his red icee, Or she forgot to add it. My son was thirsty and I couldn't share my drink with him nor did either one of us get a water. Movie time was 6 pm. Once I realized everyone had a drink but my son I was irritated. I pressed the service button & had to wait about 25 minutes for someone to come over. By the time my son received his drink it was 7:15 pm. Once we got to eat the food was cold. If your AC isn't down we should be warned or you should close for the day. Movie was uncomfortable due to this. The waiters yell when taking your order and it disturbs the movie.
