Driving from Portland to LA and were looking for a good breakfast spot to eat with our dogs. Great outdoor patio. Food was delicious. Waitress offered water for the dogs. We ordered the Northwest Salmon Benedict and the French toast and eggs. Don't bother with the other stuff on the menu no matter how good it looks. The Benedict's are divine and clearly the specialty of the house! They were poached to perfection. Hashbrowns were tasty crunchy bits of yummy goodness, French toast was a little dry, but had a delicate house made almond custard that accompanied it. Coffee was nice and strong. My only complaint with this place is that the service wasn't very attentive, or fast, but it was very friendly and it might have been because we were there in the middle of a shift change. Eggs benedict is my favorite breakfast and Studio 1 offers 8 different varieties! We tried the Zorro's Pride and The Big Easy. Both were delicious and flavorful! The full plate has 2 eggs, with sides and was very filling. I will probably order a 1/2 plate next time. The place is very small, so there may be a wait. The staff was very nice and attentive with refilling our coffee and loose leaf tea. The menu offers a fabulous array of breakfast options and I look forward to my next visit! read more

Called restaurant to check policy for seating and reservations. Was told even though they do not take reservations to call back to let them know the total number and roughly when we would be coming. Long story - called back was told "well even if you come with 12 - total that can be seated together - we will sit 4 before you and continue to do so to make more money." I can see that we would not be welcomed and sadly I have never been and have always wanted to go. Rude customer service is uncalled for. The pandemic is already an issue I get it but pretty much telling me you refuse to sit groups vs numerous small groups...I will not even attempt to eat here. Or rather loved it until yesterday. We don't live in Eugene anymore so we don't get to frequent the place often so we ending up going twice this past week for breakfast. There was a night and day difference in the service we received on Saturday vs Sunday mornings. Saturday: amazing and attentive services. Food cooked to perfect and beautiful. Prompt wait staff all around. Received our food quickly on a busy morning. Consistently checked in on. Just amazing all around! Sunday: seated immediately and served our water. Ignored for 15 minutes without ever being greeted by our server. We watched the tables around us receive prior service and consistently checked on throughout our wait. It was not until I asked a bus boy about a sever that our server was directed to our table. She arrived without a polite greeting or apologizing for not acknowledging us. We then ordered our food and waited at least 30 minutes before our plates arrived. Our food was cold and incorrect. We also never received any silverware and took us a while to get the attention of our sever so the bus boy once again helped us out and brought us our forks and apologizing. (We really appreciated him among this experience) our sever never checked back in with us and another server ended up bringing us our check. She showed up five minutes after we had our check to bring us the check we already had and then walked off. We went to pay and were charged for the incorrect ticket and that frustrated us as well. Stand alone, these events would be something to shake off but we felt we were treated poorly by this server and discriminated against being the only people of color in her section. To receive such different service than those around us and different than the day before we are very disappointed and shocked. We definitely left what was our favorite breakfast place feeling like we were no longer welcome there. Such a bummer to us and frustrating all around. Please make sure all your servers respect customers and make them feel valuable when they dine in your establishment. read more

I really do love breakfast. And it's always a treat when I get up early enough to enjoy a real one. This relatively small local joint is really the place to go for good breakfast. There's a decent amount of street parking if you go early enough, and seems like a healthy wait for all the patrons. Personally, I love the all traditional benedicts, omelets, and biscuits and gravy for breakfast, and this place offered really good benedicts. My husband and I shared a Northern Lights Benedict (smoked salmon, spinach and tomato under a poached egg, on top an English muffin with hollandaise sauce - $10.50 for full size) with a side of homefries that were perfectly cooked. I like my potatoes a little brown and the pieces here were all perfectly browned and a little crispy outside. The other benny we ordered was the Field of Dreams Benedict (fresh biscuits, topped with ham, spinach poached eggs & country gravy - $8.75). If you love biscuits and gravy and ham as much as I do, this is your benedict to go to. I definitely loved this one more then the northern lights (though both were very good). Very hearty breakfast and worth the wait. The service was good and coffee was not bad at all for a breakfast joint. Stopped in for breakfast on our way out of Eugene. What a good choice we made! This is a cozy café, staffed by friendly folks, serving up good food a decent prices. I was so taken by the benedict selection on the first page of the menu, I had to be told the breakfast selections continued on the next page. I ended up with the Rooster Cogburn Chipotle Chicken Benedict. This included some of the best Hollandaise Sauce I've ever had and was accompanied by a generous serving of tasty home fries. My husband had the Salmon Omelet. This was overflowing with smoked salmon, which he reported to be just the right amount of smokiness, definitely present, but not overwhelming. We really like this place. It's quirky and has a very Eugene-esque menu. Sams favorite is their salmon bagel. OMGosh, this thing is loaded with cream cheese and salmon...almost always FAR more than Sammy can eat. Occasionally the bagel is a bit hard but she gets it every time. I tried their special French toast. Um, no...never again. Regardless of how eloquently it is described it is dry and bland. PS cooked strawberries are not visually appealing. Note to the chef, try fresh berries over the flaccid, pink/grey spoonfuls of warmish strawberries. That being said their eggs Benedict totally made up for that on our 2nd visit (in as many months). Yummy scratch hollandaise sprinkled with first Cajun seasoning atop crisp, bright green spinach and deep red tomatoes with perfectly ripe/buttery avocado. Showed up on the busy Sunday morning after St Paddy's Day. This place is pretty small, but they turned tables over quickly which minimized the wait. A friend told us that their specialty is the challah French toast. I tried it. I ordered the original version, with fruit compote and Romanoff sauce. The presentation was surprising. I was expecting the Romanoff sauce to be piled high, but It as not. It also looked as if it would be sickly sweet with the amount of compote provided. It was not. The Romanoff sauce was very tasty. The sour cream cut the sweetness of the whipped cream. The compore tasted like fruit, not like sugar or a jelly sauce. The challah bread was fresh, light, and fluffy. My order came with eggs and bacon. I asked for crispy bacon and this was perfect. No annoying glob of fat on the end. The eggs were eggs. Nothing special, and a little on the cold side. Of course we had 6 at our table, so the eggs probably sat for a minute as the rest of the order as assembled. If you're in Eugene, I'd suggest that you give this place a try. I lived in Eugene for a year and this place was the saving grace of brunch. on a weekend morning. I got so tired of IHOP that I get shivers every time I pass one now. This place is down to earth, has some great movie memorabilia on the walls and has amazing "Eggs Benedict" and "French Toast". I definitely recommend getting the fruit toppings on your french toast but it makes it look more like dessert than breakfast. When the UO is in session there's going to be a line at peak brunch hours but it always proved to be the worth the wait. I love that they also have some pretty unique teas on the menu, though that doesn't apply as much now that I've become a coffee fiend. I've heard good things about the eggs benedict, but since I live in mortal fear of hollandaise sauce, I will avoid it forever. But people who like that sort of thing like Studio One's version a lot. It does take a long time to get your food, I'll admit, but patience and kindness are good for you, and just remember: if this joint was located down in the Bay Area, we'd call it part of the Slow Food Movement and charge $14 for that challah French toast. read more

As good as I remember it being several years ago. I used to live next door to Studio One when I was in college and ate there several times. Enjoyed their dozens of affordable and delicious breakfast options. My father and I were down early in the morning for a Duck game this past Saturday and decided to come check it out again since I hadn't been since 2007 or so. Got the Animal House Benedict and it was absolutely fantastic. Still affordable too and friendly, quick service, especially with only one server working at the time. She was very sweet. I've never had a bad meal here so I'm surprised to see all the negative reviews. However, I've only ever had one thing here... the turkey and avocado wrap. The wrap is something I would think about in class, empty-stomached and bored, and drool over. I would reach for turkey and avocado at the grocery store, intending to recreate the dish, until realizing that I would never, ever be able to do it justice. I honestly don't know what makes it so magical - it just is. The sweet potato fries and the salad (the side options) are what they need to be. I usually end up with a wrap (1 out of the 2) to take home with me. Service has been eh, but I don't really care. I always go when it's busy, so I'm not surprised at the slowness. Prices are decent, and could certainly be worse. The space is small and cramped, although I wouldn't call it dirty or unpleasant in any way. It is what it is. Sit outside if the weather is nice enough. The hours annoy me, and I would definitely go there more often if it was open past 4pm. I should mention, my boyfriend is a huge fan of breakfast foods, and the one time he accompanied me on a trip to Studio One, he told me the eggs were disgusting. Studio One is a classic nouveau, veggie-friendly diner. The decorum is a clash between art house lobby and bed and breakfast. Figuring out which movie scenes are depicted on the walls drew my attention away from the menu long enough to keep me from choosing diligently; so I decided to just get three items off the menu instead: score one for Studio One. The Morningstar was a good selection. This house specialty contained plenty of vegetables, along with a protein (tofu or tempeh), and topped with sour cream or vegan gravy (I went with the gravy). The french toast was a bit disappointing, but still tasty. It's like they left all the flavors for the toppings and forgot to add them to the batter. I rounded off the meal with biscuits and gravy, as no breakfast diner experience should lack this down-home entree. The gravy (same as on the Morningstar) is good, but compliments the biscuits a little too well. I prefer more traditional cream gravy made with soy or rice milk. Their gravy is more like a thickened veggie broth- good, but not like folks do it back home. The prices were reasonable and the mixture of "bros & barbies" with the tattoo parlor loving environmentalists keeps the place from being a homogeneous hangout. I also really appreciated the service, which was moderately paced (not terribly fast, but not pushing customers out of the door either). I really enjoyed the food here. I had the fried grits with eggs. Let me just say that it's really nice to have toast perfectly toasted. It may not seem like a difficult thing, but I find more often than not that my toast at brunch is either overcooked or soggy. Fried grits was more like fried triangles of polenta. nothing wrong here with that. I had some of my friend's french toast (delicious) and potatoes (standard home fries but better cajun style) I give them major props for handling our party which kept expanding to over 15 people. I will however mention that service pretty much just left us to our own devices as far as finding, moving chairs, tables. They were definitely a bit brusque and also occasionally forgot orders. But, I found it mostly understandable since they were pretty busy and our party was overwhelming in size. I would definitely come back here for brunch if I'm in Eugene again. read more
