The food is fantastic! The service is slow but through. This establishment is outside dining/to-go only. Prices are about $1.65 more per sub-sandwich than other sub shops. Located on Mayport road and has a sausage and dog cart in front of the Home Depot on Girvin Rd and Atlantic Blvd. Also very delicious. read more

My coworkers rave about this place and I had to see for myself what all the hype is about. Located in a small space, they have a set up where you order outside and wait for your name/number to be called. To be clear, this is a grab and go kind of spot. Parking is in a residential area and is hopping around lunch time so be prepared to call ahead or pack your patience. Capable of accepting credit cards and cash for payment options with no surcharge for doing so. The menu has plenty of options for vegetarians, carnivores and omnivores. I found myself torn between options and decided to go with the fuego philly. That means that it's spicy y'all! Not the kind of spice where you can't feel your lips but spicy to make you bite into it more and savor the meat, cheese and sautéed onions nestled in the hoagie bread. Tipping isn't required but you absolutely feel comfortable doing so with the care and concern they show their customers. When the weather permits, there are a few tables with sun umbrellas if you decide to dine there. I have to admit, I did enjoy my food and am excited to return to try so many more of the items on their menu. I've seen people order fries w/their sandwiches but I struggled to finish my food although the fries are a nice touch. Sorry, they don't have BBQ sauce for those of us who don't care for ketchup. Located on the main road in Mayport, is this locally owned business. We frequent here and love the freshness of the food and the delicious flavors. I usually order the Caswell but today decided to try the Turkey. It was fresh with cucumbers, sprouts and greens topped with cheese. Perfect on a hot beach day. Hubby had The Godfather. It's a Italian sub with Perfect spices and dressing. ( yeah I just had to eat some).... The staff are friendly and helpful, wearing masks and sanitizer in free. Come by here and try it. This is my go to sandwich shop in Jax. The only downside is the hours always felt a little weird. It isn't a restaurant, but essentially a sandwich cart. But don't let that fool you, these are gourmet sandwiches. The seating is all outdoors but covered with an umbrella. They have a lot of soda options that are outside the norm, which is nice. I love the subs at sub culture! My favorite is the roast beast with sprouts it is very yummy. Its just a little outdoor vendor, there is no place to really sit out of the weather its outdoors. Kinda like a hot dog stand but they have a building with a kitchen. They are fairly fast at preparing and getting the food packaged and to you. But I have seen people get upset because sometimes its not fast. One time we waited almost 30 minutes for 4 subs to be made. But we went at a busy time so I really can't hold that against them. I have been to this place several times when I can get over there that is. Every single time the food has been on point. Everyone in my family loves them. Fresh bread, fresh ingredients and a very down to earth staff. Only reason for four stars instead of five is because they are not open late enough usually for me. They close at 5:00 p.m. and I get off work at 6:00 p.m., but other than that everything about this place is great. I wish they would move to a dine in location and then stay open a little bit later. I'm struggling with this rating. I want to give it a 5 for some items and service, but a 3 for others. Here's why: On the one hand, their Fiesta Fries (nacho-like fries). were through the roof amazing, despite the take-out drive-home time. They are "Wow-good Wow"... Loaded with steak, Pico de Gallo, sour cream, cheese, great crispy fries with soft insides. Wow!!!!! Definitely crave-worthy! 5-Star! The Hot Sandwich - El Jacobo panini and tomato Basil soup I had were tasty but probably not crave-able for a second try. To be fair, my guy thinks he's like the El Jacobo again in the future. It's got some Mexican-flair goodness. So we all have different tastes. The tomato basil was just a bit to cream heavy for my preferences but others may love it. The real bummer was the Philly. My guy (whose from NJ but just outside of Philly) ordered this. We placed the order online. The description showed the Philly had peppers, onion, etc. So, in the online order-for-pick-up system, I didn't check that or any of the extras. Nor did I do that for the fries or my panini. But I get the Philly home and it's got nothing but the beef and cheese on it. What? My panini and the fries had all the described items on them without selection in the ordering. What happened to the Philly??? Apparently, I messed up on the Philly ordering. Thankfully, Sub Cultured's owner saw my original review and reached out to explain and apologize. Wow! Wonderful service!!! I looked today-- It is stated on the item menu (where you click to add it) to add onion and peppers if desired. We missed that. On the second page (on the ordering screen), that was where we got confused... lots of options but we were thinking those were add on additional items. So just order with eyes open or call it in if you are confused. Needless to say, we were disappointed by the Philly, but it was partly our fault. The bun was perfect, tho. The Fiesta Fries again? Did I say "wow" already? Ha! Definitely worth a drive across the city! There is an extensive menu. It's near where we live. The pick-up service was easy and good. And the owner reaching out to explain about the Philly was awesome. So, we'll definitely try again. Just next time, we'll call it in and ask questions! read more

The Philly Cheese is very good as are all their other sandwiches like the Godfather. The Philly has a tomatoey flavor to it that I can't quite put my finger on. It's a dry seasoning not a wet sauce. My current faves... the bulgogi hoagie, sweet caprese (add chicken if you are so inclined), but most definitely DON'T miss the tomato bisque-- it's sublime. It has a small dining area with picnic tables outside and a window stand to order food. BUT don't let that fool you about the food. And omg! The food! The 2 must-haves are The Godfather and the Miami Cuban. The Godfather is a simple cold cut Italian sub (you can also request it to be hot pressed) packed with meat and veggies, but it's the house Italian aioli that's what gets you. It's just beautiful. You will not see much into the prep area from the window you place your order. The sitting room is small with four tables. It is clean and in good condition. This was our first time here. It will not be our last. The food they make here is well above average. The hot sandwiches we got were pressed with good flavors. The meat tasted fresh cooked for the order. The cold sandwich we got had a nice flavor with hummus as an added plus. The hummus tasted prepackaged. The customer service was friendly. The turn over for our food was fast. In the sleepy little nook of Atlantic Beach is a shop I've heard AMAZING things about. So much so, that it's been on my Must Try list for over a year. This unassuming little spot in true beach fashion has an outdoor order window with picnic benches set up for the dine-in orders. Their menu is curated with awesome sub names like The Godfather, but I decided to go for the West Coast. The guy described it to me as a burger in sub form. I love burgers and I love subs so I figured this would be the perfect marriage between the two. The wait wasn't too long and the sub the brought out looked to be worth it. It was stuffed to the brim with beef, lettuce, tomato, and onion. I was getting stoked to eat it, until I took my first bite and the beef was really stringy and salty. I ate half the sub because I was hungry, but I felt incredibly ill after from all the saltiness and poor flavor. I gave the other half to someone else and they had the same reaction to the flavor. I will come back here and try something else because I've heard so many good things that I owe it a second chance. Hopefully I can update my review for the better then. read more
