Cheesesteak was really good and flavorful. Originally, I was thinking these are some expensive cheesesteaks but I understood once I got the sandwich. It was massive and loaded with meat, definitely enough to share with 2-3 people. Mind you, this is only the half size. The service was good, the cashier was very polite. I waited about 10-15 minutes, which I didn't too much mind because I knew it was being made fresh. Much worth the wait, that sandwich was still piping hot after 15-20 minutes of driving home once I got to eat it. My only complaint was that the meat was quite fatty, which was a first time experience for me while eating a cheesesteak. It shows they use real meat but it's a little tedious to keep having to pull fat off of meat from your sandwich while trying to eat it.

I'm not a small person and this cheesesteak was longer than my torso ‍ Been hearing about Big Al's for a while n happened to be in the area. My spouse, who's from Philly, wished I had got one with the tomato sauce since he says that's how it's done. I wanted to try the OG right off the bat and not go wild with toppings. Cheese to steak ratio was perfection! Not a dry bite taken. Even though the place was pretty busy, my order was received in less than 10min! Still can't believe the amount of food you get for a decent price. I'll always snag a large of any hoagie

Came here after the cheesesteak debates I've seen all over the internet and said I'll do my own rating lol. This is by far the biggest Philly cheesesteak I've ever seen first hand! I got the large for my parent to share and did a regular for myself and omg delicious. The added peppers and extra meat took it to the next level. Next time I'll add more cheese just because I really love cheese but this thing was meaty!! The service was fast and the ambiance was chill with TVs to watch the World Cup games! Me and the parents will be back!

Went to try out the "best cheesesteak" in Jacksonville. It's a 30 minute ride each way. Picked up my order and took it back home at the beaches. When I got home I was disappointed to find the steak on their cheesesteak fries was undercooked - raw meat throughout. I ordered two small sandwiches - one was loaded with meat and one was very light on the meat. One of my bites had raw steak in it. I called the restaurant - she offered to replace the items if I brought them back - an hour each way for subpar food was not gonna happen. I suggested that they need to train their kitchen staff better. Disappointed in the food and the service. A refund on the order should have been done.

The "OG", here we go!!!! So far staff is friendly, nice crowd, and wow, this is the small? Leave your expectations at home, and pack an appetite. This dose not disappoint! After you order, go to the side counter and grab some napkins, put your phone down, this requires BOTH hands A real treat, nothing but love in this sandwich! Thanks

Had lunch here one day and ordered the big owl, the food was served quickly and was good I ordered the regular size sandwich that they had and it was still huge and definitely could feed two, The restaurant was clean with vinyl tablecloth which I've never seen before, the owner was there and was very friendly and helpful. Would go back to try a different sandwich.

Big Al's does deliver on "big" when it comes to their massive cheesesteaks. The sandwich is either for someone with a massive appetite or perfect for people to share. The steak is tender and not chopped up to finely which I prefer since I can appreciate the quality more. The standout is their homemade cheese sauce which really does make a difference compared to the traditional cheez wiz. The texture and flavor are much better and really brings the whole sandwich together. Only note for the sandwich I would make is a touch more seasoning on the steak itself. We also referred wings and they were crispy but weren't a standout. The fries we got were perfectly crisp and seasoned it went really well with the cheesesteak. The space inside is pretty small and most people were taking their orders to go. There is a patio outside where we enjoyed our food.

We took a 30-minute drive specifically to here to try these cheesesteaks and we were not disappointed! Outstanding!! And HUGE! 18" is large ... and the homemade cheese whiz incorporated into the meat with the grilled onions - perfection. Everyone was welcoming and wanted to ensure we were enjoying our meal. It was clean and easy street parking. Would definitely recommend and we will return! Owner, Al was quite gracious and appreciative that we made the trip to visit and eat. They also cater! Soft drinks and water in cooler - no fountain drinks ... no problem! And the seasoned fries ... plentiful and tasty too! Not spicy!

The service was great, love the ambiance, the cheesesteak was just ok.... 4 stars for the service, 3 stars for the sandwich, not a fan of cheese wiz.

    Needs more seasoning.

I tried Big Al's Cheesesteaks today. A small sub is $12.00, enough for two people. But, probably won't go back. It was good, but not much flavor or seasoning. They are located in the former Lewey's place on University Blvd. Across from Wawa. Let me know what you think when you go. I don't like knocking new businesses down when they're new, but I have to be honest here. I will probably go back again after they have been there for a while. Then, I will update my review. I think it just takes time to get going. Pros: they have outdoor tables, umbrellas and a huge flat screen TV. Cons: I believe for Arlington, the prices are kind of high. No kids meals.

The cheesesteaks are excellent. Great cheese and bread quality along with loaded toppings, though I think the steak could be a bit less tough. We also got wings and fries. The fries are a solid complement to the cheesesteaks, but you can certainly skip out on the wings. Nothing special there. The counter service was friendly and helpful. It's nice inside. Typical sandwich shop vibe. Overall, very good for Northeast Florida standard. Will be back.

Awesome addition to Arlington. Fresh ingredients and made to order. Their small menu options ensure you have a great experience. The small is a large in most establishments and worth the very reasonable price tag.

What is this slow roasted Italian beef? No it's your OG

I'm a Philly guy so my standards are pretty high when it comes to my cheesesteak. I decided to give Big Al's a go after seeing so many good reviews and positive reactions. Unfortunately for me, this place totally missed the mark. The counter gal was helpful and she was highlight of the trip. I got an OG and a side of sweet fries. Now I've been to damn near every corner of Philly and south jersey eating cheesesteaks for the better part of 40 years and I don't think I've ever been sold an Italian beef cheesesteak. This meat was not seasoned well and it had the consistency of pulled pork. Not to mention the cheese wiz didn't even touch the bread. This was one of the driest un flavored Phillys I've ever had, I'm talking Sahara desert in your mouth. Not sure how they are cooking that meat lately, but they sure aren't chopping that ribeye up on a flat top. The bread was probably the most solid part of the sub, and it still was a little tough, you really gotta bite down and tear through it.. the sweet fries were just alright but nothing could upset me more than this huge unflavored sandwich. Do yourself a favor and just go to Surfwiches or Edis & Sons if you want something you won't regret.. I don't like being the bears of bad news, but if they keep serving up that mess they will quickly find themselves out of business. What I can't explain is how some of the pictures posted actually show a true Philly with meat that looks like it was cooked on a grill and not in a slow cooker.. I hope you take my review as a wake up call to put some pride back into what you're doing, but to each their own.

I saw they had a Tuesday deal for two margarita pitchers for $20 so I was really excited to try them. You cannot see into the restaurant from the street so they looked closed but once I got to the door and heard the music, I went right in! Unfortunately, the drinks were a major disappointment. I ordered a blackberry margarita and a mango margarita and both had a very strange taste. I ended up having to send the blackberry pitcher back because it was that bad. I honestly think the premade margarita base may have been the issue because neither drink tasted right. Thankfully, the shrimp tacos were AMAZING! They were some of the best shrimp tacos I've had, and they definitely weren't stingy with the shrimp. Even the chipotle sauce which I was initially hesitant about, paired perfectly with the tacos. The staff was also very friendly and didn't give us any trouble at all when we returned the blackberry pitcher which I really appreciated. The decor was super cute with paintings featuring influential artists and notable figures throughout the restaurant. But the DJ was definitely the highlight of my visit! I didn't stop dancing or singing the entire time. I would definitely come back the next time I'm in Jacksonville and give the drinks another try. The restaurant was packed with people enjoying a variety of menu items, so I think a second chance is definitely deserved. Hopefully the drinks I try next time are better because the food, atmosphere, staff and music were all great

Ordered at the front counter and was greeted by a friendly young lady... good start. I went in planning to get the muffaleta off the specials board. They checked on it, but no luck... they were out of the cuts needed. I was pointed toward the Italian, but my buddy already grabbed that and I felt like being different. Noticed another special on the wall, a smoked brisket sandwich. Can't remember the exact name, but that's what I went with. Instead of chips or their homemade tots, I grabbed the balsamic roasted brussel sprouts as an appetizer. Tables weren't the cleanest and were a little wobbly, but nothing deal-breaking... we made it work. Food came out pretty quick and looked solid. Flavor-wise... a little mixed. The brussel sprouts were very flaky and leafy, almost crumbled apart. You really had to work your fork to get a bite. I was picturing larger roasted halves. Sauce was fine, nothing bad, nothing special. I'd give those a 3 out of 5. The brisket sandwich was interesting. The meat was very fatty and kind of tough to chew through. Not sure if that's just the cut or the prep. I ate about three-quarters of it. It wasn't bad, just didn't hit the way I hoped. Probably still thinking about that muffaleta. Another 3 out of 5. I'd come back, no doubt... but next time I'm sticking with what they're known for. Those cheesesteaks always look great, and that's probably the move. Today was about trying something different, and I'm glad I did... even if it didn't knock my socks off.

This is one of those places that we love but haven't been to in far too long. We both tried things that were new to each of us tonight as well, which was cool. I ordered The Ole Smokie, with everything on it and choose cheddar cheese. My first thought when it was brought to the table was "oh, I'll probably have to go at this with a fork & knife" but I decided to give it a shot as intended. I'm glad I did because the bread held up surprisingly well! As far as ingredients go, the brisket was good and smokey. There was a good mix of everything else and more than enough cheddar. My wife ordered the Chicken Cheesesteak. She also had a choice of cheese and she picked whizz. The thing that separates this from what people might expect is that it's chunks of chicken, not shredded chicken. She said that's not a bad thing at all, just a change from what some might exoect. She thought it was a welcome change. She liked their cheese whizz a lot and liked the roll as always, so she was glad she tried it. It's worth noting that both sandwiches were big enough that we both took half of each home. I didn't get the name of the two people that were working there this evening, but I'd still like to give then a shout out. They were both incredibly patient with the customers ahead of us and they didn't make us feel rushed even though we were there fairly close to the time they close on Friday evenings. Another good visit to Clarke Bros. Here's hoping it doesn't take us so long to get back here again for the next visit!

We came in on a Wednesday evening. We asked about the menu and were told at the counter that it was Wing Wednesday and the wings were $1 each. Well how could we not add those onto our order. We ordered a Burnt Ends platter with mac and cheese, and corn nuggets, a Brisket Platter with corn nuggets and beans. We also ordered a large mac for my son and a side of lean brisket. For the wings we ordered the Cajun ranch. Our food started coming out in about 5 minutes. Firstly, I was shocked at the wings. I love wings, but they aren't something I usually order often as I find them just OK. There are only a couple places that I visit specifically for wings. Well, let me tell you, I would make a visit back just for these wings. OMG, the Cajun ranch was simply amazing, really addictive. They were my favorite item. We devoured them. The burnt ends were very good. I appreciate they are big chunks of brisket with no pull pork filler. The flavor was amazing as well and the bits of fat melted in our mouth. The corn nuggets were fine and the Mac N Cheese was quite tasty. We enjoyed the meal so much, were were trying to figure out somewhere for a family lunch the next Sunday and came back again. This time my sister, son and I brought my dad. We of course ordered more wings and burnt ends and brisket with lots of Mac N Cheese. The food really is something special. The wings are absolutely wonderful and the burnt ends are a hit. This is definitely one of my new favorite restaurants and will always be on my list of visits to enjoy when I come back to Jax.
