Super cute coffee shop right in Neptune Beach and walkable distance to the beach. The staff were very friendly and made our coffee perfectly! Highly recommend and we saw they have breakfast earlier in the day next time we got to try it!

Stopped in after an event with a group of friends for a coffee and a quick bite to eat. The staff was super nice and accommodating, as well as very helpful when it came to making suggestions. I ended up ordering a strawberry Matcha, which was made with real strawberries, not just straw syrup and the Barada toast which was creamy and flavorful in every bite! Next time I'm over in this area, I'll probably stop back in to grab a coffee and maybe a bite of food!

We visited the Southern Grounds location in St. Augustine the day before coming here, and that location truly stood out for its atmosphere and service. Unfortunately, the Neptune Beach location didn't quite have the same charm, and our drinks weren't as good compared to what we had the day prior. That said, I still enjoy Southern Grounds overall and appreciate it far more than the typical corporate coffee chains. Even when one location doesn't quite hit the mark, I still prefer supporting a brand that offers a more thoughtful, local coffee experience.

An amazing location and vibe. The outdoor seating is so relaxing and makes you feel like youre on vacation. The staff are very helpful and nice. I got a salmon toast, it was okay. I wish they added more salmon. Not bad but also not amazing. Their matcha was good too, I loved it with the lavender. Overall I had a great time hanging out here, its a good choice if youre in the area looking for a cafe to hang out in.

Wandered over to this place which is also on the JAX coffee donut trail. It's got outdoor seating and indoor seating. You order at the counter and if you're dining in you get a table number. The staff is super friendly and sweet. It's got a retro but industrial farmhouse look inside which is super cute - and the patio is open and inviting. We ordered two coffee- a cold brew with lavender for me and toasty pumpkin latte for him. He got a chocolate chip caramel cookie and I got a nutter butter cookie. We both thoroughly enjoyed our cookies, demolishing them before our drinks came. He demolished his drink before I got to my drink. Super well portioned and tasty. We would absolutely eat the entire bakery case if we could, lol. Side bar: they make their flavored syrups in house and it is on point.

This was highly recommended by family in the area. We got coffee and some treats for later (after a beach sunrise). The staff was nice. Bathroom is across the outdoor eating area in the back. Every time we are in Jax, we walk the beach at sunrise and then go to Southern Grounds for breakfast!

My friend said this was the best coffee on the beach and yes, it's very good. I didn't try the others. Nice vibe here at this very busy coffee shop with a queue to order and a few minutes later, they bring your baked goods and coffee to the table. I was early for our meetup so I did some Yelping while waiting for him to arrive. Lots of pretty people coming and going this time of year. Parking on the weekend was free but it's usually paid with one of the mobile apps. My cortado was perfect. Served in the proper short glass, it was delicious and had the right amount of caffeine to keep me going. Half espresso and half steamed (not foamed) milk, it's like drinking a proper coffee and not a "coffee flavored milk" latte. I recommend you try a cortado! I used to love this café -- we had many meetings here before. The food was always delicious, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. But something has changed. I hadn't visited for more than six months, and we recently came back for a business meeting. We ordered a salmon toast and coffee, and when the food arrived, I was shocked. The ingredients looked like they were just thrown together, and the presentation was very unappealing. I asked them to remake the toast, but the second one was even worse. The bread was burnt, and there was only a very small piece of salmon, not to mention almost no filling. I will not be coming back and cannot recommend this place to anyone. Please improve -- your location is great, and I would have loved to keep coming here, but now I remember our meal with disappointment. The coffee also smelled bad, the tables were sticky, and overall the experience felt unpleasant.

Amazing food and drinks! Open on Thanksgiving for Pete's bar which was very much appreciated! The campfire mocha was phenomenal as well as the hot latte

I love coming here. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, which works in multiple seasons. The food is fresh and made to order. I've been to a couple of their locations, but this one at the beach is the one I've visited most often.

First time going with friends and this is definitely on my list as a cozy spot to study or chit chat! Between my friends and I we ordered the delicious food you below and everything was so tasty . Service was great, the barista answered all the questions that I had and helped with making suggestions.

Friendly staff and quick service. All good things about a coffee shop next to the beach. They turn out a solid breakfast all in a relax atmosphere. The California Benedict that I got had nice chunks of avocado with a light hollandaise sauce. Eggs were poached well, with a nice runny center and not over cooked. A good relaxing start to the day :)

Great service with a seriously tasty menu. And if you're looking for a great coffee this is your place. Chill vibe outside and the only thing I'd suggest is signs for the toilets on the doors of the courtyard!

Ask the Community - Southern Grounds

Do they allow dogs on the outdoor patio?

The patio seems to be part of the shopping complex and I saw many dogs both days that we were there.

Is it sit down or order at counter?

Hi Allie! You order at the counter, but they usually bring your order to your table

The vibe is lively, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming they even surprised the table with a complimentary order of fried crab claws with garlic aioli that were absolutely delicious. For my main course, I had the trio fried platter with fish, scallops, and shrimp, accompanied by hush puppies, fries, and coleslaw. You can truly taste the freshness in every single bite; everything is locally caught by their own fishermen. On this last visit, we just had drinks and appetizers, but on previous visits, I've tried a lot of the fish dishes on the menu and have liked them all. They also have good hush puppies. Their mixed drinks are good as well. I can't remember the names of the two I tried (in the photos), but they were refreshing. My husband had an espresso martini, but instead of vodka, he had them make it with the O'Kahan Agave Mezcal Purple Heart, which is something you have to ask for. It's a different twist on the usual espresso martini. Overall, it's good food in a good spot right on the corner in the Beaches Town Center. Never been disappointed and have been eating there for years.

I was one of 6 in a group and had great conversation and larger than expected appetizers. I ordered a flight of reds, broadening my tastes to explore a Tempranillo. It was my favorite, actually, and paired well with the Shanghai Short Rib! I was pleasantly impressed. I did have the crab, shrimp and lobster bisque for my appetizer, the seasonal Shanghai Short rib for my entree and the peach butter cake to finish. Truthfully, I was finished long before the dessert, but had to taste each course. It was delectable! Personally, I would've appreciated more spice in the Shanghai sauce, but it was tasty for a more general palate and customer base. There's some risotto that called to me, so I will definitely return! Our server Frenchie also made it very clear that she's only working for tips - but she wasn't working very hard for them. Not only did she belittle our party for our ages, but also made it our problem for taking our food/drink orders late. One person in our party asked a question regarding an entree on the menu and he was met with a smart remark and little to no detail explaining the entree. Later on in the night when the whole table is done eating - we all decide to help out and clean up the table as best as we can. Frenchie decided it was a good time to make yet another smart remark about stacking the plates on top of each other. She continued to say "Have you ever been a server before?" and before really answering she cut me off to say "well then you should know not to stack the plates because you don't know if the server can handle that many plates" ... as she continued to take the pile of dishes out of my hand. If she can't handle too many plates in her hands, then she should've just waited to clear the table or politely say "i'll come back for those plates in a minute" by the end of it all , the entire table felt very uncomfortable by her demeanor towards us - of course we still tipped because we understand what it's like to make a living off of tips but to have a sour attitude and continually reminding us that you're here for tips isn't a great way of having customers coming back.
