I still stand by my original review but I am taking a few stars away because I don't like that they rest our sandwiches on their sleeves while adding the toppings. These sleeves are not covered with plastic and neither are their arms. That's very unsanitary. If you look at their Instagram page you will see a video of them making the sandwiches and half of the sandwich is laying on a sweatshirt sleeve . Also I have been eating here since I was a kid and the meat on the sandwiches has become less and less over the last year or so. I really like your sandwich shop but people will notice the change (maybe they already have) and they will stop coming there. This is the BEST sandwich place in town, locally owned and staffed. They use very fresh ingredients and deliver. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality. You can find cheaper but may only get 1 slice of tomato. The service is pretty fast even during high traffic periods. Seating inside is small but clean. I first came here when they opened - in the beginning, they offered giant, flavorful subs for exceptional value. Unfortunately, since opening I feel that the overall quality has been slipping, and my last visit (yesterday, the 7th of October) was abysmal. I arrived to the normal setup - minimal line, everything was clean, etc. I ordered a giant French Dip on the Italian herb bread, light Dijon mustard, easy pepperocinis. The sandwich was made quickly, and for a second the smell gave me hope that it would be delicious. Unfortunately, when I cracked into the sandwich in the car on the way home, I was met with the flavor of salt. Not of seasoning, not of the delicious meat, not of fresh bread, nor of spicy pepperocini... just salt. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was salty. The meat, the pepperocini, and the dip... I might as well have unscrewed the salt shaker at home, poured it onto a hero roll, and ate it. The time prior my pastrami was salty, and the time before that the sandwich attendant drenched it in Dijon. I honestly can't recommend this place... in fact, I downloaded Yelp on my new phone just to tell you to go to Subway instead. They may be light on flavor there,but you won't be consuming copious amounts of salt. read more

Loved Sub Machine when it was in Santa Monica. My favorite sandwich back then was the "Lucky Luciano." This shop on Lancaster doesn't use all the same names for the sandwiches, but the quality is just as good. Love that this place is super close to my job. Not only are their sandwiches delicious but the service is just as great. They have lots of yummy options. Lunch hour is always busy but you can call in your order and they'll have it ready when you pick up. I usually get a breaded chicken sandwich which I believe is called the cordon blue but I could totally be wrong lol. I just know it's delicious. And super filling! I've given Sub Machine a lot of my money over the years. They give you a large sub at a price that's hard to beat. It says 12 inches but it trumps Subway's footlongs in size easily. They have a large selection of subs to choose from in both the hot and the cold varieties to satisfy all customers. They have a weekly $4.95 footlong special that changes to a different sub every week. I work an afternoon shift that goes late into the evening and I like to bring a large bag of chips to work with me and grab a $4.95 footlong from here. That one sub split in half is easily my lunch and dinner for the night. That can't be beat price wise. Even the regular priced subs are at a much cheaper price the most other sandwich places. Some of my favorite subs here are the Club, Kansas City, St. Vals, Meatball, Pastrami Special, and the Traditional Italian. They have many more subs, but I tend to choose one of these most often. They make homemade pickles which is a nice touch to go along with the "hole-in-the-wall" environment here. If you dine-in they offer you a piece of fresh fruit to go along side your sub too. I usually dine-out, but I'm not that much of a fruit person anyway, lol. The place itself is a small hole-in-the-wall size spot that seats maybe 20-25 people. It's clean and well kept up and has a Mafia style decor to it. Hence the name Sub Machine. Most of the subs have a mafioso name to them too. Now this isn't all rainbows, leprechauns, and pots of gold here. I do have some issues with the food here. I think that Sub Machine is a good for the price that you pay for a subs, but they aren't the best subs and they would struggle if their prices were higher. My first issue is that I'm not a fan of the quality of the sliced deli meats that they use. They don't use the traditional style deli meats that you'd find at Jersey Mike's, Sub Marina, or at a traditional Deli to where to meats are sliced fresh to order. They use the lower quality processed square block style turkey, ham, etc., with their sandwiches. If you read any of my reviews you'll see that I'm a big stickler for quality and that's one of the issues that holds this place back when compared to some of the other sub shops. Issue #2, they don't put much meat on the cold subs. They use the above mentioned meats and they give you 1 thin layer of it. If you're going to cut a corner and not give me the best quality, at least pile my meat high. The sandwich looks deceiving because it's large and piled high, but that's mostly all veggies and not meat. This is only an issue with the cold subs though. The hot subs are piled pretty high with meat. Issue #3, they don't use fresh baked bread like most other sandwich places and because of this you can tell whether they gave you fresh bread or they're at the end of their stock with the first bite. One day you'll have a sandwich and the bread is awesome. The next time you go they bread may taste a few days old and be a bit crumblier, if that makes sense. I think that they'd benefit from baking their own rolls daily like most other sub places. Sub Machine is great for the price. If you want a good tasting sub at a cheaper price then other places, them this place will fit. If you're looking for a great quality sub, with the best and freshest ingredients and you don't care about the price, then I suggest going to Jersey Mike's or Sub Marina. read more

I found this place by accident, or maybe it was fate! But what I do know for sure is that I've found my next duchess-hood pursuit! The food: It's a sandwich place so you can pretty much order any kind of sand which you want. I ordered a Philly cheese steak! It was 6 inches of heaven ;) Ok this is probably the oddest Philly I've ever ordered. What made it odd was it served the traditional way, tons of cheese and meat, the oddity is the marinara sauce. It threw me off! I love my Phillies jam packed with delicious meat goodness and saturated with a form of cheese dripping everywhere. So I gave it a go! And guess what? It was good! Actually beyond good, it's Amazing! I'm tempted to recreate it at home! Philly plus marinara who knew? I didn't but I'm glad I do now. After your sandwich is made they offer you a piece of fruit with your sub. I got a pineapple. Service: Good the girl at the counter was very helpful. The sub was made in a very timely manner. The shop itself! The only thing I didn't enjoy was they rent out p.o box units. So there's a lot of foot traffic, it's best to pick a sear far from the mail units or else you'll probably be moving in and out of your chair a lot. I've been here multiple times and their sandwiches are excellent. The workers are always super friendly and helpful. One thing that I love is that they are not stingy with their meat and toppings. Compared to some other sandwich shops, they pile on everything which makes for a delicious filling sandwich. The fresh baked bread is super soft, and I like how they chop up the toppings. First time here and I was disappointed. We ordered the Kansas City and a Turkey and Cheese sub along with a roast beef for the kids meal. Portions were great and service was good. Bread was way too dense and a little dry. We love bread, so for us to take off one side and eat the sandwich that way, was rare for us. I did save the remaining part of my sandwich to try to make a salad with the contents. Bread was terrible. The roast beef was way too salty and very well done. The sandwiches themselves are delicious. Getting things "Mafia style" grants you a huge array of flavor with whatever sandwich you opt for and the price is unbeatable. The staff is also amazingly personable. The bread itself is alright, but allowing for options there would be amazing. Also there was a steady flow of people coming in and out, but things were moving very slowly. (All of this to me is a half-star gripe.) I'm rather baffled by why sandwiches come with honeydew melon.
