Now, you're not going to be in a 5-star facility, the floors may be a little sticky and your table may wobble, however, this sandwich is absolutely 10 stars! The staff was friendly and the flavors in the sandwich were phenomenal. This is a hole in the wall spot that looks like a family owned business-a staple in the community. The vegetarian sandwich had warm veggie meat and cheese, vegetables and a secret sauce that really packed a punch. The bread was perfectly toasted. We had a big cup of homemade sweet tea that took us right back to the South! We ordered chips and a pickle with our sandwich. That's it, that's the review!

I am so ashamed that I've been in Charlotte all my life and never been here before now lol. I looked up best subs near me and they popped up. When I arrived I realized I've past this strip plenty of times over the years but not once have I looked and noticed it. The signage isn't very visible, but no matter I've found it now and believe me I will be back. I tried the New Jersey cheesesteak and it was oh so good! Got sweet tea to drink and it was pure perfection. When I walked in the, the nostalgia of an old school sub shop just puts you right at ease. I spoke with an older gentleman who worked there and was cleaning tables and he was just the nicest person ever. So funny and friendly. I can't wait to get back and try more items.

I am sad that it took me over 2 years living in Charlotte to discover this gem of a sandwich shop. This was easily the best sandwich I've had in town. Fresh bread, delicious meat and their oil and vinegar had such a delicious flavor! I can't wait to go back and support this local business again.

Sub One Hoagie House has been on my radar for a while now and I finally got around to trying them out. I went around 1pm on a Tuesday to avoid the noon lunch rush. There was a steady stream of customers while I was there and it took about 25 minutes for me to get my food ordered and out the door (so I recommend calling ahead and ordering if you are in a hurry). I ordered the cheesesteak because 1) I love a good cheesesteak and 2) theirs gets great reviews. It was a good cheesesteak but a little heavy on the black pepper and not on the traditional Amoroso roll. But it was also not super greasy like other cheesesteaks are. The size was also pretty big for the price. I'll be back to try some other menu items. Big parking lot, locally black owned business. Note- they accept credit cards but they charge you fifty cents for the transaction

I finally made it to Sub One after two previous attempts, both were my own issue and no reflection on the business. Today, I learned why the Charlotte staple is so popular in the Fourth Ward community and also why they're so important in the Black-owned business community. Service is great, prices are more than affordable (I paid $7 and some change for a hot hoagie and a bag of chips - a steal in this town), and I was in and out (I went around 1:30p and missed the lunch rush). I had the #3 (Supreme) but subbed the steak with chicken. It also includes cheese, onion, pizza sauce and mushrooms. It was all *chef's kiss* and I'll be back again. One thing you SHOULD know is the grill is open so you will smell like a greasy spoon when you leave the restaurant. Where it like a badge of honor. Definitely check them out!

So, I was headed to my usual sando shop and decided to check out somewhere I'd never been! Sub One Hoagie had just posted this delicious looking sando so I decided to stop by. I popped in on a weekday around 1:30PM and there was only one person ahead of me. The gentleman at the counter was super friendly and helpful. EVen though we all had on masks I felt like family! LOL This spot just had great vibes, what can I say. I'm a cold turkey and provolone sub kinda gal so that's what I ordered and it was delicious! Cannot wait to go back and try a hot sub one day. This spot is close to home so I'll definitely be back soon.

Love this small mom and pop shop! It's so homey and I instantly felt comfortable the minute I walked in. The girl who took our order was very polite and I'm definitely going to come back. I love that it's located on a black-owned strip of other small businesses. I never knew this location was there! I tried the New Jersey steak sub and it was so good. I would highly recommend this place for good subs.

Great atmosphere and customer services. I have been twice and ordered the Cheesy steak sandwich, added mayo, banana peppers, lettuce and tomatoes. Definitely making this my goto sandwich shop!

Yum Yum Yum. Sub One has hit the mark. The menu is basic and simple- You order by number and wait as the send of cooking beef and onion spice fill your lungs. I literally love this place. I am always a tad bit elitist when it comes to subs or hoagies-( the jersey native in me) I was of course skeptical about the whole concept of CLT somehow getting the sub correct. Babay - I was wrong. This little joint was super quaint and charming. My sandwish :) was delicious and juicy. The staff was extremely friendly - but did not have any time for my NJ shenanigans... (pretty such enuff tools have visited them already :) ) My coworkers were with me and although she had remembered getting a gluten free bread there in the past- they seemed to be clueless about the whole concept. IDK where she had a gluten free sub?? I enjoyed my overall experience. IDK WHY they are adding pizza sauce to sub/hoagies. The only sandwich that should get pizza sauce added is a meatball/ chicken/ eggplant/ Parmesan... not on a standard PHILLY cheese steak. The owners might want to take a trip to the city of brotherly love and eat a Philly cheese steak and realize it doesn't come with lettuce and tomato either. Also NJ because - the jersey sub doesnt hit the mark exactly either. If your still reading this.. just know this is an epic sandwich joint with no frills and Dr. Brown's soda... they arent here for the games or shenanigans... ORDER your delicious warm sub .. eat it there and go home to pass out.

My husband brought a sandwich home to me from here several weeks ago. Although the pictures do the sandwich no justice; every bite was flavorful and overall just really good. Surprisingly this sub shop has been around forever and I had no idea. So from the pics posted, these are not the pics from when my husband brought me the sandwich, but it was so good I was craving another. Needless to say, the pics are from my THIRD trip there . I always get the chicken breast sandwich, which comes with chicken/cheese/lettuce/tomato/mayo and any additions you would like. I will say the door to the location swings open quite frequently as I found it's a community staple and people come from all over for their delicious subs. The staff were quite pleasant and very welcoming. They seemed to have a great connections with their patrons as so witnessed many of them walk in and the staff would say "you want your usual", implying they have frequent fliers. . Now, I only gave a 4 star because although the subs are great, facility is dated and needs some love and care.

All stars here!! Really, really great Cheese Steaks, very nice staff. I am there for quality, tasty meat, bread, cheese - and this was it! And the prices are low, really, really low! Traveled for this meal and worth it! Happy New Year Y'all!

Around 9:20 PM, I received a call from Olivia, the shift lead. She was incredibly calm, professional, and kind while explaining that she wasn't at the store and the employees working that night were fairly new and that they usually appreciate a little advance notice for catering orders. She asked whether I still wanted to move forward with the order. I told her I completely understood the situation and wouldn't be upset if they needed to cancel since it was so late and inconvenient. A little while later, Olivia called me back to let me know the catering had turned out great and that they could still deliver it if I wanted. When the order arrived, I was so impressed! Both catering boxes looked fantastic, and everything was prepared beautifully. I truly appreciate the employees who stayed late and put such care into making our order, and I especially want to thank Olivia for her outstanding customer service. Her kindness, communication, and professionalism turned what could have been a stressful situation into a wonderful experience. Thank you to the entire team for going above and beyond!

I'm sad to say I was feeling less adventurous that day so instead of the Dutch bread I opted for a regular white hoagie roll instead. They also offer all of their sandwiches in a wrap as well if that is more your speed. Their signature sandwiches all come with a number of their own unique ingredients but it's important to note that they have a standard blend of toppings that comes on each sandwich similar to jersey mikes and their "mikes way". I'm glad this was explained to me because I don't know how they would have possibly fit that many ingredients on my sandwich! I went with the Ellie Get In My Belly which came with some tangy honey mustard based barbecue sauce as well as their special Kicks white sauce. The sandwich was delicious although I think they may have gone a little too overboard with the sauce as the sandwich was very messy. That being said I can tolerate messy if the flavors are good and this was a very tasty sandwich and a great lunch. As with most places in the Monarch Market it is a little pricey, but that's the cost of having a small business operate Uptown. I would definitely recommend checking out Kicks next time you're looking for lunch options or find yourself perusing the Monarch Market.

It's right on the way to my yoga studio, so it's perfect for a quick in-and-out lunch, but honestly, it's also the kind of place where you end up lingering longer than planned. My usual order is the ABLT on rye with Boar's Head applewood smoked bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Simple, fresh, and consistently delicious every single time. I almost always pair it with the Spinach Bacon salad loaded with spinach, cranberries, goat cheese, tomatoes, toasted pecans, and brown sugar peppered bacon. The portions are huge and definitely shareable. What makes Rhino special is that it's more than just a deli. It's part neighborhood market, part coffee shop, part beer and wine stop, and part community hangout. They've got local products, grab-and-go snacks, fresh sandwiches, beer on tap, wine, outdoor patio seating, and sometimes even live music. It reminds me of the small independent spots I used to love in the Bay Area around Burlingame, San Mateo, and Palo Alto. Relaxed, local, welcoming, and full of personality. The staff is always friendly, and the atmosphere feels genuinely Charlotte. Not overly polished. Not trying too hard. Just good food, good people, and a place that locals clearly love. And if you are visiting North Carolina, you absolutely have to try Cheerwine at least once. It's basically a Carolina rite of passage. Cherry soda lovers will probably be obsessed. Me personally? Not exactly my flavor profile, but people here drink it like water, so clearly they are onto something. Rhino Market is one of those places that makes a city feel like home. The ordering and payment process was easy. I was solo so I took a seat at the bar area to eat. Sandwich looked good when I unwrapped it, large slices of toasted bread with fresh lettuce and tomato. The strangest thing was, on the left side of the sandwich were several slices of deli turkey rolled up. On the right side of the sandwich were several slices of deli ham rolled up. I hadn't seen a sandwich made like that before. It felt like half of a turkey sandwich and half of a ham sandwich as opposed to a ham and turkey sandwich. Was it bad? Definitely not. I waffled between a 3 and a 4 star for this one but felt generous because, overall, I liked the vibe of the place.
