Gave this place a try again since I live nearby and was craving a sandwich. It's been a couple of years since I've been here and I didn't remember it being that great. I ordered the Southwest Beef Melt and the Matt Cain. The Southwest Beef Melt was the saddest sandwich I've seen in awhile. It looked nothing like their website photo, not even close. The bread to meat ratio was sad. There was so much bread that I had to take the top portion off. There was way too much bread and onion and not enough meat. I would not suggest this sandwich to anyone. It definitely could have used something else in it. As for the Matt Cain, it had more meat and felt like a fuller sandwich. They unfortunately burnt the bottom of the sandwich. I also ended taking that part off. I liked the meats, didn't care for the amount of diced onions. Sliced would have been easier to eat. For the price vs amount you get, it's just not worth it. We had to eat something else after because we weren't full. It's always a bummer when you order online and pick up in store, tip before hand and when you show up, the people at the store seemed annoyed you're there.

Thought I'd stop by since I was in the area. So glad I did! They pack your sub with a ton of deli!! For the Matt Cain on French bread. Fire

10 stars! The yummiest deli sandwiches in the neighborhood! Had the pleasure of meeting Eric today when I popped in for my first visit. It will definitely not be the last! I ordered a Black Forest ham and cheese + the works - the Dutch crunch was toasted to perfection, the right amount of toppings and delicious! I'm excited to finally have a go-to and reliably yummy sandwich spot!

Underrated sandwich shop and probably one of my new favorites! Both sandwiches were the TBA (turkey, bacon, avocado). We added peppercini, pickles, and their special hot sauce and garlic sauce. The special sauces are a must have!! Entire sandwich jammed packs with ingredients and so good! Highly recommend!

This location used to be Buds Ice Cream back in the day, in the 1970s. I have fond memories of coming here for ice cream when I was a kid. This is now a small subs shop where you can also pick up some Mitchells ice cream with your sandwich. Menu has a good selection of meat and vegetarian options. Prices are affordable and their sandwiches are filling. I picked up the TBA sandwich on Dutch Crunch during my last visit. I'm always happy when Dutch Crunch is available and not sold out. The TBA sandwich has Turkey, Bacon, Avocado, Provolone with Mustard, Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion & Oil & Vinegar. They toast all their sandwiches. I know the menu says the regular size sandwich is 6 inches long. However my TBA sandwich was definitely longer than my 6 inch ruler. It's mostly take out here because there isn't much seating inside. The people here are friendly. It can be challenging to find street parking in the neighborhood during peak times. Check out the art on the walls while you wait for your sandwich to be made.

Got the T.B.A- do not sleep on adding the hot sauce, garlic sauce, pickles and peppers! It adds so much flavor. I also got this on the Dutch crutch. Fabulous meal, great service in a cute area. Will definitely be coming back

Solid sandwich. Filling, decent price, not too fancy. Ordered on phone for pickup. Service was fast.

Delicious! Went on a Friday for lunch with a friend to get a sandwich to go, and there was a short line, you order at the register and wait. We split a large build your own sub. It was plenty for both of us and we were very full afterwards. The ingredients tasted fresh and they have a ton of really great toppings at no extra cost, such as sauerkraut! The sourdough bun was great and the turkey and ham were a lovely combo (you can mix two meats). Only comment I have is that we waited probably a little over 10 minutes for our sandwich even though there was only one party who ordered ahead of us. I figured they were probably satisfying other pick up orders. The wait was worth the sandwich! Get it toasted!

The Noe Vegetarian Sub!! Roasted eggplant, roasted red peppers, red onions, provolone, pesto, spring mix and tomato
    Thomas D.

Roasted eggplant, roasted red peppers, red onions, provolone, pesto, spring mix and tomato make up the vegetarian sub called The Noe. I'm glad I ordered the "regular" 6" sub. It was big. I love Dutch Crunch and was happy to see it as one of the bread options. There are many sandwiches to choose from as well as Mitchell's ice cream. Good service. Price is ok. I paid around $12. The flavors didn't pop as I expected. Next time I'll ask for a splash of balsamic vinegar.

TBA Sub - 3.5/5 - this was fine, nothing special.

Happy to know we have a great sando spot in the neighborhood! They offer both hot and cold sandwiches and two different sizes. As someone who has a big appetite, the smaller one was plenty big for lunch. But i could see the bigger size being great to split or for dinner. Pretty quick service and friendly staff. Small area for indoor seating too. We will be back!

These are the two beautiful ladies who made our yummy sandwiches today!

Best sandwich place in SF area! :)) This is our second time around coming here! I couldn't Yelp it last time coz it's our first time to ever taste their sandwiches but this time..hands down their sandwiches are yummy delicious from the first time and especially today! We appreciated the cashier who took our order down to the beautiful ladies behind the counter making them! :)) Here's what we ordered today..I got the Pastrami Rami and it was perfect from the warm bread..tasty pastrami with this yummy cabbage salad..pickles and let's not forget the thousand island dressing..I added mustard coz I love mustard! Lol! Then my honey man got the Godfather..made for a big man appetite! But their sandwiches are awesome coz they're HUGE!!! :0 You'll see it on my pictures I'm including They also had a good selection of chips! They have Mitchell's ice cream there too! We did try that but when we went the first time as our dessert! Yummy!! :) If you ever go to the Noe Valley area on Castro..please support this amazing sandwich place! The workers there today were excellent and they were very nice..cheerful people! The guy cashier was very patient and kind with this lady in front of us ordering her sandwich! It's a small place where it's limited seating..they do have a bar like seating area which helps! Overall..our trip there was wonderful! The three hard working people there made our experience great coz we know we were hungry but to have fresh..warm delicious sandwiches made our day Awesome! Thanks to those three great workers there! :)) I hope they get a great job from the owners! It makes a great deal when you have fabulous people who care about making their customers happy! We appreciate you guys for making us satisfied and happy! Thank you! :)) We will be back soon!! ;)

    Ruta G.

For 10+ yrs I've wanted to try this place and finally did! I got a mortadella sandwich on sourdough and it was so good! Get the garlic sauce- made my sandwich so tasty! The sourdough bread is unlike any I've had at a deli and has the perfect level of sour and isn't hard! The folks that work here are super friendly and patient and love how large the space is! Def coming back to try more!

The fish cone is pretty good, I enjoy both types the regular fish shaped cone and the mochi version. The mochi version is indeed mochi. It's an unpleasant fragrance to smell while you're waiting or trying to enjoy your food. They've finally added more tables outside the shop where people can hang out and eat their ice cream. The small size was around $6 and includes two flavors. They offer tasters, on real metal spoons, so you can try the unique flavors before committing. The servers were so friendly and must have the patience of saints -- there are too many good flavors to choose from!!! I had the honey lavender and the crème brûlée. Both were 10/10! The honey lavender was so unique and the crème brûlée had little chips of hardened caramelized sugar like the actual dessert. Disappointing, Overhyped, and Not What We Expected…read more My family and I are very experienced diners, and we rely heavily on Yelp when we're looking for honest opinions from other customers. We were recently in San Francisco and were excited to find a great ice cream spot. With so many options, we turned to Yelp and that's where we found Bi-Rite Creamery, boasting nearly 11,000 reviews and a 4.5 star rating. Those numbers set some pretty high expectations. I read through quite a few reviews beforehand, looking for recommendations on standout flavors and specialties. After all that praise, I was genuinely confused when we arrived. First, finding parking was a nightmare and the surrounding area felt pretty rundown. The shop itself was underwhelming, the employees weren't particularly welcoming and the ice cream looked noticeably soft as though the freezer temperature wasn't quite where it should have been. The flavor selection was surprisingly limited and I wasn't impressed by the use of reusable tasting spoons. I ordered the sundae, expecting something memorable after reading so many glowing reviews. Instead, it was completely ordinary and the bananas weren't fresh. There was literally NOTHING about it that justified the level of hype I had read beforehand. And that's really my bigger issue: the experience simply did not match the reviews. It was confusing. This wasn't terrible ice cream, but it was decidedly average. The selection was limited, the ice cream wasn't as cold or impressive as expected, location sucked, the atmosphere was nothing special and the customer service was marginal at best. Afterward, I started looking more closely at the business and its enormous volume of reviews, and I honestly found myself wondering how our experience could be so dramatically different from what I had read beforehand. Nearly 11,000 reviews?? That is an extraordinary number for an ice cream shop, especially when so many reviews describe the experience as exceptional and rave about specific flavors which were subpar. Obviously, I can't speak to the authenticity of other customers experiences and I'm not going to accuse anyone of manipulating or leaving fake reviews without evidence. But I can speak to ours: it was nowhere near the experience YELP led us to expect. This is exactly why I wish Yelp did a better job helping consumers distinguish genuine, useful customer feedback from whatever is driving these enormous review counts and inflated expectations. My family spent our time, money, and effort getting there based largely on those reviews and we left wondering what we had missed... Nearly 11,000 reviews and a 4.5-star rating? Based on our experience, that's a level of hype this ice cream simply didn't live up to and something's up. It sucks when dishonest people take advantage of useful resources.
