Changing my rating to three stars feels extreme, but they've consistently let me down by leaving off at least two ingredients on every sandwich I order. I don't make crazy changes! I merely add pickles, peperoncinis, spicy mustard, and the ~famous~ garlic sauce -- and without fail, at least two of those things never make it on my sandwich. My most recent sandwich lacked pickles and garlic sauce, and there's no way they were out of pickles, because my boyfriend's sandwich had them *sobs in boring sandwich* In order to be sure I get pickles and pepperoncini, I've learned I need to pay an additional $1 to get them on the side. Today, I added side pepperoncini in addition to selecting option for free add today, I only got side pepperoncinis. I thought ordering irl vs on their site could help get the order right, but nope, same result. Sandwiches are everywhere around San Francisco. There are so many choices to grab a sandwich it becomes a matter of personal preference. When I am in the Noe Valley there is a place which has a great combo of sandwiches and ice treats. This place serves Mitchell's Ice cream but also make a sandwich so influential that one person decided to open a sandwich store in Brooklyn based on their style of sandwich . It's on the corner of 24th street and Castro and it's called Subs Inc. Inside you will see a fun decor for a sandwich shop. They have the signature subs such as baseball legend Joe DiMaggio and SF Giants former neighborhood resident Matt Cain. I had to try the Godfather. It had pastrami, turkey and provolone. The sandwich was tasty and not too saucy and the bread was not flaky like some in SF. This is the place to grab a sandwich at a great corner spot when in Noe Valley. So grab a "drink" although it's shrinkflation these sandwiches don't "shrink" no need to go elsewhere in Noe Valley no need to "overthink" just go to "Subs Inc." Gave this place a try again since I live nearby and was craving a sandwich. It's been a couple of years since I've been here and I didn't remember it being that great. I ordered the Southwest Beef Melt and the Matt Cain. The Southwest Beef Melt was the saddest sandwich I've seen in awhile. It looked nothing like their website photo, not even close. The bread to meat ratio was sad. There was so much bread that I had to take the top portion off. There was way too much bread and onion and not enough meat. I would not suggest this sandwich to anyone. It definitely could have used something else in it. As for the Matt Cain, it had more meat and felt like a fuller sandwich. They unfortunately burnt the bottom of the sandwich. I also ended taking that part off. I liked the meats, didn't care for the amount of diced onions. Sliced would have been easier to eat. For the price vs amount you get, it's just not worth it. We had to eat something else after because we weren't full. It's always a bummer when you order online and pick up in store, tip before hand and when you show up, the people at the store seemed annoyed you're there. read more

This location used to be Buds Ice Cream back in the day, in the 1970s. I have fond memories of coming here for ice cream when I was a kid. This is now a small subs shop where you can also pick up some Mitchells ice cream with your sandwich. Menu has a good selection of meat and vegetarian options. Prices are affordable and their sandwiches are filling. I picked up the TBA sandwich on Dutch Crunch during my last visit. I'm always happy when Dutch Crunch is available and not sold out. The TBA sandwich has Turkey, Bacon, Avocado, Provolone with Mustard, Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion & Oil & Vinegar. They toast all their sandwiches. I know the menu says the regular size sandwich is 6 inches long. However my TBA sandwich was definitely longer than my 6 inch ruler. It's mostly take out here because there isn't much seating inside. The people here are friendly. It can be challenging to find street parking in the neighborhood during peak times. These subs are crazy huge and so good. I got the large Matt Cain and it was my first time. It was about $20 but well worth it. The ratio of the meat, veggies and sauce was perfect. With the Dutch crunch was a "chefs kiss". The inside was small but the location and vibes were great. Staff was super friendly and kinds as well! The inside tables were slightly dirty but it just showed how much people loved their food haha. Nothing a wipe down with some napkins could do. That's the only thing bringing the score down. Delicious! Went on a Friday for lunch with a friend to get a sandwich to go, and there was a short line, you order at the register and wait. We split a large build your own sub. It was plenty for both of us and we were very full afterwards. The ingredients tasted fresh and they have a ton of really great toppings at no extra cost, such as sauerkraut! The sourdough bun was great and the turkey and ham were a lovely combo (you can mix two meats). Only comment I have is that we waited probably a little over 10 minutes for our sandwich even though there was only one party who ordered ahead of us. For 10+ yrs I've wanted to try this place and finally did! I got a mortadella sandwich on sourdough and it was so good! Get the garlic sauce- made my sandwich so tasty! The sourdough bread is unlike any I've had at a deli and has the perfect level of sour and isn't hard! The folks that work here are super friendly and patient and love how large the space is! Subs Inc has sadly let me down again. Decided to indulge in my first sub post-pregnancy, and received a dry, unseasoned stack of bread and meat. Scanned the menu for an Italian sub (not even an option), next looked to the build your own (now I see why Italian isn't an option - there aren't enough Italian meat options to even make a sub), and the kicker - every sub comes with mustard (WTH?!). So I place my order for the best option I can find - Matt Cain ordered with no onions or mustard, add pepperoncini. I receive: meat, cheese, lettuce, one slice of tomato, and approximately 4 pepperoncini slices (read: no mayonnaise, oil / vinegar, seasoning of any type). Some positives: bread was fresh, meat / cheese were of decent quality and sliced nicely (not too thick), and there was a nice volume of meat & cheese. Save your money and check out one of the other Castro / Portola sub shops instead. TLDR; less than satisfactory service. I hate writing a subpar review but today's service was thought provoking. I work in the neighborhood so every time I eat here I order ahead, I ordered my sandwich at 2:09pm and was told my order would be ready at 2:31pm. Around 20 minutes but not unreasonable. I waited 25 minutes around the neighborhood and walked in to get my sandwich. They gave me someone else's order when I told them I was there for a pickup, good thing I always check. I asked again if they had my order and they had no idea what I was talking about until they checked their tablet. If you're asking who "they" are, it's the two people standing behind the counter who didn't really look all that concerned with keeping busy. They told me it would be a few minutes, meh whatever I'm already this late for work. I waited 10 more minutes for my sandwich, came to work, sat down and started eating it. There is avocado skin littered all over the sandwich including the little nub on the top of the avocado which is impossible to bite through.
