Reba's is easy to find and quite convenient. It's a large restaurant with a very nostalgic feel…read more The place is open and lots of seating. Music is great! We grabbed a menu and sat down. I noticed it's a bit limited on burgers and sandwiches but perhaps good for the area and easy for the staff to make. We ordered and added some pies, paid in cash for the discount and left to fill our cups. The cashier and another employee had conversations amongst themselves while we were ordering and paying. Felt a bit awkward since we didn't want to interrupt their hugging and or whatever they were doing. The sweet tea stayed mostly empty but lots of unsweetened tea. We dove right into our pies first. The Almond Joy didn't taste like the candy bar as much as an amaretto coconut pie but really good! The buttermilk pie was really good too. I ordered the chicken poblano "burger". The lettuce was sadly very soggy as was the whole sandwich. Thankfully the bun was toasted because there was way too much mayo. I noticed right away that it was just bland. The chicken was thick which is great but it was bland on bland on bland. No poblano flavor. I looked for the peppers. They were grilled/sautéed and thin. Soggy sitting under the lettuce. No flavor. The fries weren't anything special but the crunch. The tea was sadly tasteless as well. I really wish there was more to say. My mom's sandwich was just sort of...there. Nothing special to talk about. I'd go again for pie and coffee alone and only if I was desperate for something to eat. There may be better places to eat in town. It's slow paced inside. Good to watch cars go by and imagine what the place looked like years ago.

OMG! I was not a fan of pizza, that is until I got a meat lover's pizza from Reba's. The crust, not…read moretoo thin and not too thick; Crispy, yet tender and the meat was oh so flavorful, my pizza was baked to perfection. (FYI, I live in San Antonio and am very tempted to take a road trip for my next yummy slice.) Then there dessert...well, located within a rocks throw of Brenham, you know what to expect, and it ain't just yummy cookies and cake. Yes, ladies and gentlemen (drumroll) you guessed it...BLUE BELL ICE CREAM!! Spoiler alert they failed to have my favorite daiquiri ice but you're not going to lose me over that. (Hint: just saying for future options. I'll be on the lookout next time I'm rolling down 290 East.) All good and well, the girls behind the counter were attentive and nice. And the restaurant rang of a good place to go after a go hometown Buffalo's Friday night football game. (This is Texas you know.) Thanks Reba (if there is a flesh and blood Reba out there) for expanding to your latest downtown location. LOVE IT!

My husband has pulled me all over the state of Texas to try different barbecue places and this one,…read morein my opinion, is by far the best. I had a rib wrap, which is just one rib and a piece of bread and it was the perfect amount and the meat was falling off the bone. So tasty. My husband had a barbecue sandwich and he said it was fantastic. The service was great. The people were friendly and I'll definitely come back if I'm this way again.

Ironically, this place isn't much better since it's only open Friday and Saturday. Needless to say, I got here at 2 o'clock on a Friday and it turns out if you get here that late they will be pretty much out of everything. So from 11 AM till 2 PM they've already run out of everything except a chopped beef sandwich and some fried wings. They also offered a fish sandwich, but why? As for the business itself, it is located in basically what can be considered a small garage with just 4 chairs to wait in for your order and three picnic tables outside. In other words, this place is just one step above a food truck and no public bathroom. Inside there will be a flatscreen playing an episode of either Bonanza, the rifleman or the Lone Ranger. In the background, you can hear the sound of numerous cattle mooing. My simple order still took about 20 minutes to make its way out despite only one other person in line. The tip screen will be waiting when you run your card while you either wait in the cramped cool room or sit outside waiting for your order. I have to admit the chopped beef sandwich was probably the best I've ever had as it was stuffed well beyond what the plain white bun was ever designed for. This sandwich alone took this from a three star to a four star review. To be honest, what I got was vey good, but the disappointment of little to nothing to choose from hardly made it worth the drive. If you're not the early bird, don't expect much. However, if you call 512-595-2477 you can make an early order. 10 photos included or more insight.

I usually call in our order when we are about 20 minutes away from our stop. Everytime I call in the order the person on the other end is friendly and repeats back what we order. The convenient store part of Hruska's has a lot of items that you can choose from to purchase and they have clean bathrooms which is a positive. When we get there we park, walk in and head to pick up our food at the counter. It's usually labeled with the ticket stapled to the bag. We then get in line to pay for our food. The line is usually backed up but moves fairly quickly. There is also a small area with tables and chairs that you can sit at and enjoy your meal or sit there if you need a rest. For my meal I usually order a Hamburger which comes with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions. I usually get mine with mustard. Their burgers are so good and a good size. Overall Hruska's is a great stopping place while traveling. Whether it's for gas, a bathroom break, or if you want to grab something to eat this is a one stop shop place.

Arguably one of the greatest foods ever invented. Atleast in my world. How can you go wrong with bread filled with sweet or savory fillings? Hruska's is about halfway between Houston and Austin and a perfect rest stop to fill up on gas, use the clean facilities, grab a snack or indulge in their amazing baked goods. They are steeped in history and have been around for decades passing along the family recipes. It's obviously improved structurally over the years from a country store and looks like a modern gas station now. It's always pretty busy every time I have stopped in, but they are a well oiled machine and keep the masses moving with excellent customer service. They have all your gas station essentials like snacks and beverages. What sets them apart is their bakery. Here, they label their kolaches as the traditional fruit filled variety. I like them, but they are never my first choice. I love the ones with meat inside. Here, they label these as pigs in a blanket. They have a large variety of both. I usually go for a regular sausage and cheese, but over here, they sell a delicious pan sausage kind. On top of all their sweet and savory baked goods, they also sell burgers on the grill. Their burgers have made it to the Texas Monthly Top 50 burger spots. I have yet to try it. Overall, this is an always stop place for me. I highly recommend stopping here to stretch your legs and enjoy a delicious pastry while you're at it. I will definitely be back.
