So during peak hours, the place is quite busy with attorneys, jurors, doctors, nurses, etc. She and her crew bust @$$ to keep the line moving. She has the remarkable ability to make two or three customers' sandwiches simultaneously while still remembering what each one specifically wanted without needing to ask them again. For online app orders, she's the rare Sandwich Artist who actually reads the Special Instructions. When I type "Please wrap each half of each sandwich separately," she does it! In summary, Subway on Main is run by a lady who combines brisk work ethic with attention to detail. Quality of staffing is what separates a good chain outlet from a bad one. I've been to many different subways and this one is the best in terms of service. The lady that made my sandwich was like a food consultant, she made suggestions on what would make it taste good/better and I went with it. It's not too often that one ends up in a subway with someone who suggests or helps them with what to include on their sandwich. I typically get either the tuna sandwich or the toasted meatball sub with the herb and cheese bread. The bread is fresh and warm, slightly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. They will also toast the sandwich if you like. My main complaint on subway would be the tiny 1/4 slice amount of cheese that they put on the sandwich. I had to drop into Downtown Martinez yesterday to drop a job off at PDQ Printing. And since it was around lunch time, I thought that I'd grab a sandwich and get back to the Office, PDQ. There's not a lot of choice for that in these parts, and it's all complicated by the large County (including Jury) crowd looking for the same thing. This Subway is what it is and pretty much meets my already modest expectations for a quick bite, and at reasonable price. I usually gravitate to tuna fish and find myself in an internal conversation on how a Subway franchisee can make a living at this. I really like the Veggie Delite sandwich (since I like all veggies) and recently figured out that the egg sandwich is like any other hot sandwich at Subway, and can have all the veggies added to it also, with a little extra protein - so that's what I look forward to on every visit. The small Martinez Subway didn't deliver quite what I get from Walnut Creek's Locust St. location. My cheese wasn't entirely melted, yet the bread seemed pretty dry around the edges after baking (maybe their toaster was a little off?) I asked for all egg white, but the sheet of egg was ripped and they didn't have any more, so the worker put half egg white and half regular egg - that was fine with me. *(My cholesterol's 144 - I can egg all the egg yolk I want.) :) But she still should have asked. It's not very fun to try to figure out what someone is asking you when you can't understand them. I found myself repeatedly asking "what was that" and "can you repeat that" as I ordered my simple egg sandwich with veggies. The worker was very polite, but speaking softly with a heavy accent isn't a great combination. Sandwiches were ok. I feel they were really lacking in customer service... My mother bought my sons two 6 inch turkey sandwiches. I feel she could have been charged for one foot long instead because they wete exactly the same. Even from the same roll of bread. She charged $10.30 for two instead of $7.50 for the foot long. I had placed a large catering order online - 12 trays of sandwiches. I arrived early and saw some of our trays being made, so I knew they were fresh. Everything was ready on time and as ordered. Parking at this location is difficult, so one of the staff scoped out a place in front of the store and held it for me until I could drive my car from a few blocks away, and then she loaded all into my car. I was trying to get some subway and as the manager was making the sandwich he started just going at it making it like he new what i wanted. At NO point did he ask me what kind of cheese i wanted he just threw some on there, I did have to ask him to change the cheese to what i wanted, when i did so he rolled his eyes and gave me a nasty look.
