A foot long Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki Sandwich
    Adrian C.

Well it's a subway like any other. The service here is pretty quick and responsive. But honestly there is much better options around the area when it comes to food. I would recommend going to somewhere else cause it'll probably be better and cheaper than coming here and buying carbs.

6 inch bacon, egg, cheese with free coffee. Also video of coffee cup top.

Review for breakfast only: Overall not that bad of an experience, although today was raining so it may be an outlier. I was in and out within 8 minutes and two people were staffed in the place. I ordered the bacon, egg and cheese 6 inch sandwich on flatbread with some extra veggies (and cheese of course). Happy to report that free coffee also applies for breakfast items before 11AM on weekends too! The coffee is via a commercial Keurig so don't be too amazed at the quality but at least I was able to get vanilla flavored this morning. Also, I thought I had a double lid for the coffee too but turns out it's actually part of a swivel that can stop or allow liquid through (see video). The only down side is that for some reason I felt like the volume of liquid flowing when open was less compared to other coffee cups. Everything was well stocked and clean, and the team seemed pretty chipper despite the weather. The parking was empty and that's probably because it's Sunday and there isn't school. Will come back to explore more of the breakfast next time. Cheers!

First bites are always the best.

Ready to buy an overpriced sandwich with a soda? Make it worse with processed cookies that they take freash out of the refrigerator to the oven? Get ripped off here.

    Sales tax charged for dine-in
    Erica A.

So came in this afternoon. The bf and I shared a footlong meal. The girl, Fanny, automatically gave and charged us for a 32oz drink. We noticed we also got charged tax. Now typically there's no tax. So he asked, why the tax? The response "dine-in tax"!!! What the....really? They charge taxes for dining in. Next time I come here we're saying to go and then will take a seat. :-) BEWARE of the dine-in tax this place charges.

    So good

It was always a real treat. As a teenager I dated a couple of the girls that worked there so I was there on the regular in those days. In my 20's I lived right up the street and hit them up quite often. I don't get there as much as I'd like nowadays but when I do, it is always consistently great. Times have definitely changed but Connal's quality food and super customer service has not! I am a huge Combination Grinder fan and have not ordered anything different for well over 30 years. They are always stacked with lots of high quality cold cuts and delicious Provolone, crisp shredded Lettuce, thin sliced Onions and Vinegar and Oil on a delicious French Roll. In my teens and 20's I did try many samplings on their vast menu and as memory serves, everything was always delicious. Today's Grinder absolutely hit the spot! It had been a while since I last tasted one but the Combo Grinder most definitely never disappoints. I went for it, and got Zings (Zucchini Sticks and Onion Rings). Super hot, crisp and very tasty, especially with some Bleu Cheese Dressing. Jesse took my order and he was very personable and showed me some excellent customer service. If you are looking for some great grub, you cannot lose with Sandwiches By Connal. It is not the original owners but they have kept the same quality and standards over the years.

Once upon a time, we lived dangerously close to this establishment, and I've honestly thought about it more often than I'd like to admit ever since. So when I found myself in Pasadena a few weeks ago, you better believe I was coming back. I ordered my usual: an unbelievable burger, fries, and a Coke--of course. But the crown jewel of the meal, as it has always been, is the fried zucchini. I have never found better fried zucchini, and trust me, I've been trying for years. Service at the window was just as friendly as I remembered, and we grabbed a spot tucked under the patio instead of staying inside--perfect for people-watching as folks came and went. There's something really special about being welcomed back by a place that tastes exactly like you remember. Connal's still delivers.

They do ask if you like them to warm it up for you in case you are eating it on the spot. I said no and took it home to put in the air fryer. I can't wait to go back and try other things they have. Hubby got the Classic Aussie sandwich and the bread pudding, while my son and I got the Beef Pho meat pies and Popcorn Pork meat pie rolls. The beef pho meat pie definitely had the pho flavors and aromatics. This was absolutely delicious! The Popcorn Pork was good, not as aromatic as the pho pie. The flavor was lacking on the Taiwanese popcorn chicken basil flavor that it claimed. It reminded me more of a Vietnamese meat pie (pate chaud), which is peppery with a smoother texture that this one did not have, but it was still flavorful. The bread pudding was good but the texture was more dense reminding me of a banana bread loaf. I didn't care for the dollop of yogurt on top, which took away from the flavor of the bread pudding itself. Hubby said the Classic Aussie was good but was expensive for the size of the sandwich (small burger size). Hubby got the Long Black coffee which was good, but sadly my iced matcha latte was lacking in the matcha flavor. It was very pale in color and tasted mostly of milk. Service was quick and friendly. I will come back for the meats and try the other flavors of the meat pies next time.

It consisted of lettuce, avocado, corn, black beans, jicama, tomatoes, onion, quinoa, krispies, kale, cilantro, and cotija. The lettuce wasn't too fresh and there were some that were yellow green but not a big deal. It was packed with flavor even without the chipotle vinaigrette (relieved I got it on the side because I wasn't s big fan). The avocado was very fresh and plentiful. I added chicken for extra $4.74 and it was very tender! Overall, I enjoyed the salad but a bit pricey so it was a good one time experience! The Chicken Pesto Caprese ($14.10) was pretty good. It consisted of chicken, mozzarella, red peppers, pesto, and mixed greens. The greens were very fresh and the sandwich was packed with flavor. The chicken was a little dry but not a big deal. There was a lot of red pepper and it was a bit overwhelming so I wished there wasn't so much. Really enjoyed the pesto since it it wasn't too salty and was the cherry on top to the sandwich! I also really liked that the bread was soft and fresh. Got the "Not so Fried" Chicken Sandwich ($13.68) - 1/2 portion and it came with a side (paid extra $1.26) for tomato basil soup. It consisted of chicken, krispies, mustard pickle slaw, tomatoes, onions, and herb aioli. The bread was very fresh and soft. I'm glad I got this in half portion because I thought this was just ok and nothing special. The tomato basil soup was very oily and salty so wasn't too enjoyable. The Pomegranate Mint Lemonade ($5.10) was sooo sweet. It was refreshing but the mint was a little too overpowering. Definitely recommend adding ice and/or water otherwise it's way too sweet! Overall, the sandwich and salads were a bit pricey but definitely one of the better spots for sandwiches and salads in terms of quality and quantity!

I've gotten at least a dozen sandwiches (and likely more) from Ike's over the years, and it was always my favorite local sandwich shop after they finally opened a location in the northeast side of LA. But I must say, as of late, their quality is really not the same as the past. I recently ordered a sandwich that came with mushrooms and it was barely cooked and mostly raw. Having raw mushrooms in a sandwich is really not it, and considering each sandwich here is about $16+ post tax and tip (yes I did tip), I think we can expect a little better quality, or at the very least, not having basically raw mushrooms in a sandwich. While they do have many sandwiches to choose from on such a vast menu, and everything is customizable (just with additional charges), it does feel like they'd do better if they nail down some of the details like making sure their cooked ingredients are actually cooked. All that said, the store is kept clean, there's some dine in tables as well as outdoor seating. The music indoors is kept loud, and the decor is very colorful and bold. Service feels like what you'd expect from employing recent high school or college students at their first jobs, but it's always been polite.
