This was a very pleasant surprise. So the space that used to be George Restaurant in north Pasadena has been replaced by this awesome Italian joint. Don't be fooled by the looks outside or the fact you walk in to a deli counter where they make sandwiches. Take a seat and enjoy some of the best if not the best Italian currently on the East Side of Los Angeles, and certainly the SGV. We went for lunch on a weekday, and the place was kind of empty. The interior was nice before and they have not changed much except maybe a coat of paint and the deli counter. Service was okay, but the two male waiters did tend to hang out with each other in the back by the bar which made getting our check a drag. They also make you pay for basic bread and olive oil. It was either $7 or $10, but whatever it was it was way too much for a few pieces of focaccia. Those would be my two complaints. Some might also say the prices are just a tad steep, but the food is in my opinion currently worth it. We got the carbonara and the tagliatelle à la Bolognese. My son almost always orders carbonara in an Italian joint and usually complains. He compares every place to Vito Restaurant by the Santa Monica airport. That carbonara he loves to death. He said this was now his second favorite. He also attributed it to them using guanciale instead of pancetta. He said it makes all the difference. My tagliatelle was delicious, as well. The meat ragu tasted so good. Bottom line, I'll be back and probably a regular. I hope more people go, as it would be a shame to lose this gem. This restaurant is now in my top 3 LA Italian joints along with Vito and La Pergoletta in Los Feliz. I cant wait to try the cacie o pepe. I just wish they'd at least give one basket of bread even if they charge for refills. I can't believe how many restaurants want you to pay an exorbitant price for bread and butter. Revising my review, I was remembering the location of one spot but reviewing another. The food was right but the locale was NOT the same. Forgive me, my habit is EATING!!! This neighborhood restaurant is down the block from my friend's house. It's a cool little hop skip and a jump around the corner. Here's what we ate: Panee Olio - Fresh baked ciabatta, olive oil, mixed olives - the bread was GOOD, nice crust, soft inside. It does make me sad that bread is no longer complimentary in 90% of all restaurants I dine at. Insalata Bietole - Roasted organic beets, wild arugula, strawberries, candied pecans, burrata, red wine vinaigrette - MMMMMM, this was a delicious salad. The burrata added such good creaminess to the dish. I love me a red wine vinaigrette, great balance of acid. Prosciutto Rucola e Tartufo - Ricotta sauce, fresh mozzarella, truffle shavings, arugula, shaved parmesan, white truffle essence - it's a nice light flatbread dish. I think I personally would have enjoyed the prosciutto baked crispy on the flatbread instead of fresh for more saltiness to the dish. Lasagna - Bolognese, bechamel, mixed mushrooms, parmesan - my friend loved her lasagna with the white sauce instead of red. I'm definitely coming back to try more of the menu. Came by to celebrate some birthdays during weekend brunch hours! During brunch the lunch menu is not available. Dog friendly, so we were able to have our well behaved dog sit outside with us. Bathrooms are decorated with dog designs. We shared some brunch items (panini and sausage egg dishes) plus some flat breads. Entrance is a deli where you can get sandwiches and Italian goods eg pasta sauce bottles, dry pasta. Inside the restaurant is cutely decorated and with comfortable seats. Parking was easy street parking. From 6-8pm they have a Parmegiano wheel on the side of restaurant where they make Cacio e pepe..this was so creamy and cheesy, I enjoyed it. I just wish we had been told they were making it so I could have gone over to watch, ( I thought they would wheel it over to make it more tableside). The Mussels and Clams was one of their featured entries, we ordered it with the white lobster sauce, which was lick your plate good. Did not realize it does not come with pasta, but took leftovers home to make our own pasta :) The Pisa was more like a flatbread, interesting, cheesy could use more toppings. This review is for the deli and not the restaurant. I really wanted to like The Italian Deli Co, but sadly it missed the mark for me. I actually wanted to try their sandwich because it looked really good. Parking was a breeze (there's plenty of street parking) and since I was going to the deli, there was no wait. I have been really craving a good Italian sandwich, which I ordered, and a porchetta sandwich, which I thought looked good. The employee was super nice and brought out the sandwich pretty quickly. Experience at the restaurant was great so I had high hopes for the sandwich. Unfortunately the sandwich was just average. The sandwich was so dry, there were not enough condiments. I ended up putting some of my own. The deli meat was also slightly dry, making the sandwich not very tasty. Not sure if it's because I ordered the wrong thing? Also, I know restaurants are cutting costs in general because of the economy, but the sandwich was pretty small for what I paid for. Overall, pretty disappointed. Normally when we get Italian Deli Co, we're having people over and buy 5 sandwiches to go. Today, we were planning to eat in for dinner, but my partner wasn't feeling well. We still wanted Italian, so I offered to go and pick it up. The online menu is sandwiches and piadina only, so I called first to make sure we could get restaurant meals to go. They said yes. I ordered eggplant parmigiana for him and Sauté di Cozze e Vongole for me, as well as a cannoli and a salted caramel dolce freddo to sip while waiting. The drink was delicious and the server, Brooke, was super friendly and helpful (A+, 100%, no notes). I'd had a long week and admittedly was flying on autopilot by then. I paid my tab, got my bag and went to the car. Now I am pretty extra about transporting food safely and without spills, so I put the bag on the front passenger seat and belted it in so it wouldn't tip over. So far, so good. I drove home relishing the delicious garlic smells wafting through the car. I got out and this is where things started going haywire. I walked in the front door and realized the cream sauce on the mussels had just dripped out of the box (not sure why liquid was packaged this way and I will definitely be on alert for this in future!) right through the bag, up the stairs, across the door mat, and all over my shoes (and the flip flops I had been about to put on). Ugh. I have cats who definitely should not be eating garlic, so my husband and I cleaned up the mess after taking photos. I also noticed I had left behind the cannoli And was resigned to calling the restaurant and asking for a refund for the cannoli, at the very least. When I got to the kitchen, I found that basically ALL the sauce had leaked right out of the box (did they not have a deli cup? It's literally a deli). I tried calling twice, but no one picked up. I figured they were busy, as it's the day before a holiday, though it was still pretty early, only about 5 pm. Between the lack of sauce in my dish, the left-behind cannoli, and the mess (thank goodness 90% of the sauce didn't end up in the car upholstery) I decided to just drive back and see what they could do. I am sorry I didn't get their names, but the servers (managers? owners? Apologies, I was SO frazzled. One of them was wearing a green shirt) at the front of house listened to my account, looked at my photos, offered to remake the dish for me, and let me sit at the bar while I waited. I also got my cannoli (perfect). I was offered water or a glass of wine (I declined, I forgot the rest of the dolce freddo at home and was looking forward to finishing it. When my meal arrived, the person in the green shirt told me to be more careful this time and when I expressed trepidation, offered to plastic wrap the box (it was still in a box! Weird but ok) which they did with that good industrial plastic wrap This did the trick by the way. So thank you to the staff at Italian Deli Co. for making it right. I had been looking forward to this meal all week, and though due to the circumstances, I will have to do some reheating at this point, I am really looking forward to our next visit. 1) if I have to order to go I will try not to order liquidy/saucy things 2) if I do order liquidy/saucy things I will ask for the plastic wrap treatment 3) aside from not having the appropriate to go containers for sauce, everything else about this place so far has been excellent, particularly the people and the food. Overall, I like the atmosphere of the place. It feels like I entered Italy. I think the food and ambiance reflect that as well. Judging by European food standards, the food wasn't overpowering. It felt like the spirit of Italy and its cuisine. Rather, ingredients were fresh and the flavor was not overpowering. The calamari was crisp and tender. The soup was okay, but I'm not sure if it was to my taste. It seems like it was some barley and it had some pieces of meat and a tomato-based soup. This is one of the most authentic Italian restaurant in the SGV; once you step into the establishment, you are feeling transported to Rome or Florence ; Actually my friend said its better then Rome since he was so disappointed of his recent trip to Italy . The pasta was really good and definitely from other alfredo/white sauces. The salad was also really good and fresh. My server was amazing and such a nice guy. I finally had the opportunity to come back and try the food. I had reservations on a Saturday night. Our server was a charming young gentleman. They don't have a full bar but wine & beer are available, so I had a Hugo Spritz. It was refreshing & tasty. We were lucky that our reservations were at 6 pm, so we could partake in The Parmigiano Wheel Experience (daily from 5:30 - 7 pm). The dish is prepared at the center of the restaurant so all guests can get a view of the Cacio e Pepe being made to order and the delicious smell that fills the restaurant. At $24 it's a bargain, so we had that along with Linguine al Frutti di Mare ($31) and the Insalata Mista Stagionale $17. The Cacio e Pepe was Chef's Kiss! The Linguine was al dente, the sauce was delish, and the seafood was fresh. The salad was also incredibly good - mixed greens with California yellow peaches, caramelized pecans, crumbled goat cheese, & a pomegranate dressing. It was a special but should be on regular rotation. For dessert we shared the Tiramisu and it did not disappoint. A few weeks later I returned. Our server, Carlos, was fantastic! An absolute delight. We've now visited this Italian deli four times, and there's so much to love--especially the warm, inviting atmosphere. That said, the noise level inside has become a real drawback. It gets quite loud, and some acoustic paneling on the ceiling would make a big difference in softening the sound and improving the overall dining experience. On this visit, we arrived early and were greeted by (who I believe was) one of the owners. Unfortunately, the welcome felt a bit cold, which was disappointing. Hospitality matters, especially in a place you want to return to. Service was mixed. We had the same waiter we've had before--he's kind and well-meaning, though still a bit inexperienced. After ordering an appetizer and two glasses of wine, we also placed our dinner order. Typically, you expect a bit of pacing so you can enjoy each course--but both the appetizer and entrées arrived at the same time, which took away from the experience. As for the food, there were some highlights. My husband really enjoyed his meatballs and pasta. My chicken parmesan, however, was just okay--nothing special, which is a bit surprising for such a classic dish. For a restaurant that recently opened, the staff was friendly but it looks like they are still getting used to the weekend rush. Some things were a bit hit or miss, for example, a few of the Yelp pictures and promotions posted are outdated. The Parmesan cheese wheel event, which was advertised for weekends, is actually only available on weekdays. I was a little disappointed since I had really been looking forward to trying it. Parking: There's free curbside parking available right outside the restaurant, which is super convenient. However, it can get packed during peak hours, so I recommend looking around the residential streets. Food: We started with some coffee, on the menu it seems that they use beans from Italy. The coffee came with a biscuit with refills. We ordered the Brussels Sprouts, which were decent, nothing too special, but it's always nice to have some greens. For our main dishes, we ordered the Pasta Carbonara and the Lasagna. The Carbonara was creamy and flavorful, with thick, al dente pasta. I personally liked the Lasagna, it was rich, hearty, saucy, and generously portioned. I couldn't even finish it so we took it home. For dessert, we tried the Crème Brûlée Cheesecake, which was light, smooth, and not overly sweet. Seeing some reviews, I would love to try the panna cotta next time. Ambiance and Service: The restaurant is bright, clean, and tastefully decorated with plants and warm lighting. The servers were nice and attentive, though really busy keeping up with the crowd. A couple of months ago on a weeknight I made the last minute decision to celebrate my birthday here with my immediate family. I was able to make reservations for 10 the day before with no problems. Upon arrival, parking was easy to find on the street. I was greeted with such warmth and familiarity. They accommodated the kids choice of meals and constantly checked to make sure we were doing well. Carlos was are served and he was amazing! He made some delicious recommendations on meals and we all loved it so much. The food was absolutely flavorful. They presented me with a desert and sang happy birthday to me in Italian. This is relatively new restaurant that opened this summer, at the former The George restaurant location. The setting is pretty much the same, which compliments the Italian vibe. We came here for dinner during the week and was very impressed with the level of service and food. Our server Nicole was very attentive if she didn't know the answer to a question she would go out and get an answer. The food came out in a timely manner. The outside seating is cute, but it can get hot even with the misting spray above and the road (Washington) can get busy from a noise standpoint. Service was very nice and acceptable as they work through getting used to things with the grand opening mode. I ordered a spaghetti. Yes, it's basic but they did a great job with it. I love this place. We came for dinner on a Thursday night around 8, and it was still buzzing -- about 80% full. For a weeknight, that says a lot. The vibe is warm and inviting, with little outdoor tables that instantly reminded me of Europe. Such a nice touch. We ordered the mussels and clams, a pasta, and a pinsa. Everything tasted great. The mussels were on the smaller side, but the cream sauce we chose (they also offer a tomato base) was absolutely delicious -- especially with the perfectly toasted bread they serve alongside. The energy is welcoming, and the aesthetic balances the warmth of a classic Italian restaurant with a chic modern touch. Excellent food, friendly service, beautiful inside and outside seating pretty much sum up my review of the newly opened The Italian Deli Co., We were sad about the closing of The George but we are delighted to discover a new restaurant had opened up. We are especially happy that it is a full service Italian restaurant serving breakfast all the way to dinner. They are still at the soft-opening stage so some of the menu items are not yet available. There are restaurants... and then there are places that truly understand hospitality. The Italian Deli Co delivers real, intentional service. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt welcoming. The team was dressed in the cutest angel wings, the décor was beautifully done, and everything felt festive without being overdone. Mindy was exceptional. Detail-oriented, attentive, and genuinely kind. She was hands-on the entire time -- making sure we had exactly what we needed, clarifying details, checking in thoughtfully, and staying focused on service. You can tell when someone cares about their tables. She does. But what stood out just as much was the entire staff. Every waiter and waitress walking by had a smile. They greeted us, asked if we needed anything, cleared plates immediately, kept the table organized, and made sure nothing was missing. Not once did anyone seem rushed, irritated, or disconnected. Every interaction felt intentional. Arms wide open hospitality. That's rare. The hostess (short blonde hair -- I wish I caught her name) went above and beyond in a way you just don't see anymore. The deli had technically closed, and our son only eats salami. Instead of saying no, she reopened the deli area, cut multiple samples so he could decide which one he liked best, and once he chose, she made him a simple, neatly plated dish with bread on the side. She made sure he was included. That mattered. It wasn't just service. It was care. We also learned they've started a Saturday & Sunday kids cooking-style activity for ages 5-11, and my kids are already asking to go back. I'll be booking as soon as there's an opening. In a time when many restaurants feel transactional, this place feels community-driven. Out of this world. We'll absolutely be back. read more

We visited The Italian Deli to pick up sandwiches for dinner. Everyone was friendly and hard at work. I was happy to see that there was a bit of a crowd considering they'd only been open a few days. There are a couple of tables and chairs outside with cute sidewalk seating. We had the Grinder and Vito's. I was really impressed by the flavors of the Vito's. Their bread is perfect- it has a nice softness and a beautiful crust. We are happy to have these guys in the neighborhood and will definitely be back! read more

Let's just say I'm local to the immediate area of this bar/restaurant/trattoría and work for another establishment in the neighborhood, and when I went in, there was no greeting, nothing. I ordered a pinsa and a sandwich. Both were underwhelmingly average. And the sandwich cost $17. I had heard good things about the happy hour here, and I'm sure this place is great for happy hour, but for a quick pickup, not really. Listen, when people come in, someone should greet them. We had another amazing Italian meal at The Italian Deli. The name doesn't lend itself to belonging to a fine Italian Restaurant. But that's exactly what it is. We have probably been there a dozen times since they opened. That includes numerous times to their actual deli. I have not had a bad meal there once. Their wait staff is very good and accommodating. Carlos has been our waiter 2 or 3 times. He is always pleasant and funny. Their sandwiches are wonderful. We have enjoyed the Fettuccini Alfredo, Their Classic Parmagiano Wheel, Caesar Salad and oh, the Short Rib Entree with Spinach and mashed, and the Tagliatelle allá Bolognese, among others. An excellent place with real attention to detail. The lamb shank was one of the best I've had in LA -- perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and beautifully presented.
