Normally when we get Italian Deli Co, we're having people over and buy 5 sandwiches to go. Today, we were planning to eat in for dinner, but my partner wasn't feeling well. We still wanted Italian, so I offered to go and pick it up. The online menu is sandwiches and piadina only, so I called first to make sure we could get restaurant meals to go. They said yes. I ordered eggplant parmigiana for him and Sauté di Cozze e Vongole for me, as well as a cannoli and a salted caramel dolce freddo to sip while waiting. The drink was delicious and the server, Brooke, was super friendly and helpful (A+, 100%, no notes). I'd had a long week and admittedly was flying on autopilot by then. I paid my tab, got my bag and went to the car. Now I am pretty extra about transporting food safely and without spills, so I put the bag on the front passenger seat and belted it in so it wouldn't tip over. So far, so good. I drove home relishing the delicious garlic smells wafting through the car. I got out and this is where things started going haywire. I walked in the front door and realized the cream sauce on the mussels had just dripped out of the box (not sure why liquid was packaged this way and I will definitely be on alert for this in future!) right through the bag, up the stairs, across the door mat, and all over my shoes (and the flip flops I had been about to put on). Ugh. I have cats who definitely should not be eating garlic, so my husband and I cleaned up the mess after taking photos. I also noticed I had left behind the cannoli And was resigned to calling the restaurant and asking for a refund for the cannoli, at the very least. When I got to the kitchen, I found that basically ALL the sauce had leaked right out of the box (did they not have a deli cup? It's literally a deli). I tried calling twice, but no one picked up. I figured they were busy, as it's the day before a holiday, though it was still pretty early, only about 5 pm. Between the lack of sauce in my dish, the left-behind cannoli, and the mess (thank goodness 90% of the sauce didn't end up in the car upholstery) I decided to just drive back and see what they could do. I am sorry I didn't get their names, but the servers (managers? owners? Apologies, I was SO frazzled. One of them was wearing a green shirt) at the front of house listened to my account, looked at my photos, offered to remake the dish for me, and let me sit at the bar while I waited. I also got my cannoli (perfect). I was offered water or a glass of wine (I declined, I forgot the rest of the dolce freddo at home and was looking forward to finishing it. When my meal arrived, the person in the green shirt told me to be more careful this time and when I expressed trepidation, offered to plastic wrap the box (it was still in a box! Weird but ok) which they did with that good industrial plastic wrap This did the trick by the way. So thank you to the staff at Italian Deli Co. for making it right. I had been looking forward to this meal all week, and though due to the circumstances, I will have to do some reheating at this point, I am really looking forward to our next visit. 1) if I have to order to go I will try not to order liquidy/saucy things 2) if I do order liquidy/saucy things I will ask for the plastic wrap treatment 3) aside from not having the appropriate to go containers for sauce, everything else about this place so far has been excellent, particularly the people and the food. I will be continuing to spent our hard-earned money supporting this local business. read more

The ambiance is beautiful, clean, and welcoming, with both indoor and outdoor seating that creates a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. We ordered the Tagliatelle Polpette, Pollo e Prosciutto, Burrata e Prosciutto, and Salsiccia e Peperonata, and every dish was delicious and expertly prepared. The quality and freshness of the ingredients really stood out. From the fresh arugula and Parmesan cheese to the prosciutto and wine selection, everything tasted high-quality and carefully sourced. The service was friendly, attentive, and fast. A special touch was Chef Lalo coming out to greet us personally, which made the experience even more memorable. The portions were very generous and offered excellent value for the price. We ended up taking food home because there was so much, and every bite was worth it. As for the noise level, there were a few families with children, but everyone was respectful, and the overall atmosphere remained calm and relaxing. Revising my review, I was remembering the location of one spot but reviewing another. The food was right but the locale was NOT the same. Forgive me, my habit is EATING!!! This neighborhood restaurant is down the block from my friend's house. It's a cool little hop skip and a jump around the corner. Here's what we ate: Panee Olio - Fresh baked ciabatta, olive oil, mixed olives - the bread was GOOD, nice crust, soft inside. It does make me sad that bread is no longer complimentary in 90% of all restaurants I dine at. Insalata Bietole - Roasted organic beets, wild arugula, strawberries, candied pecans, burrata, red wine vinaigrette - MMMMMM, this was a delicious salad. The burrata added such good creaminess to the dish. I love me a red wine vinaigrette, great balance of acid. Prosciutto Rucola e Tartufo - Ricotta sauce, fresh mozzarella, truffle shavings, arugula, shaved parmesan, white truffle essence - it's a nice light flatbread dish. I think I personally would have enjoyed the prosciutto baked crispy on the flatbread instead of fresh for more saltiness to the dish. Lasagna - Bolognese, bechamel, mixed mushrooms, parmesan - my friend loved her lasagna with the white sauce instead of red. I'm definitely coming back to try more of the menu. Came by to celebrate some birthdays during weekend brunch hours! During brunch the lunch menu is not available. Dog friendly, so we were able to have our well behaved dog sit outside with us. Bathrooms are decorated with dog designs. We shared some brunch items (panini and sausage egg dishes) plus some flat breads. This review is for the deli and not the restaurant. I really wanted to like The Italian Deli Co, but sadly it missed the mark for me. I actually wanted to try their sandwich because it looked really good. Parking was a breeze (there's plenty of street parking) and since I was going to the deli, there was no wait. I have been really craving a good Italian sandwich, which I ordered, and a porchetta sandwich, which I thought looked good. The employee was super nice and brought out the sandwich pretty quickly. Experience at the restaurant was great so I had high hopes for the sandwich. Unfortunately the sandwich was just average. The sandwich was so dry, there were not enough condiments. I ended up putting some of my own. The deli meat was also slightly dry, making the sandwich not very tasty. Not sure if it's because I ordered the wrong thing? Also, I know restaurants are cutting costs in general because of the economy, but the sandwich was pretty small for what I paid for. Overall, pretty disappointed. Overall, I like the atmosphere of the place. It feels like I entered Italy. I think the food and ambiance reflect that as well. Judging by European food standards, the food wasn't overpowering. It felt like the spirit of Italy and its cuisine. Rather, ingredients were fresh and the flavor was not overpowering. The calamari was crisp and tender. The soup was okay, but I'm not sure if it was to my taste. It seems like it was some barley and it had some pieces of meat and a tomato-based soup. I barely was able to make time before they stopped the parmesan wheel pasta and I'm very glad I was able to make it! It was a very nice dinner. The pasta was really good and definitely from other alfredo/white sauces. The salad was also really good and fresh. My server was amazing and such a nice guy. I will say I do understand how the service can come off weird from the front desk because they had a confusion on their end about my reservation but she was very rude towards me until she realized it was their mistake. I finally had the opportunity to come back and try the food. I had reservations on a Saturday night. Our server was a charming young gentleman. They don't have a full bar but wine & beer are available, so I had a Hugo Spritz. It was refreshing & tasty. We were lucky that our reservations were at 6 pm, so we could partake in The Parmigiano Wheel Experience (daily from 5:30 - 7 pm). The dish is prepared at the center of the restaurant so all guests can get a view of the Cacio e Pepe being made to order and the delicious smell that fills the restaurant. At $24 it's a bargain, so we had that along with Linguine al Frutti di Mare ($31) and the Insalata Mista Stagionale $17. The Cacio e Pepe was Chef's Kiss! The Linguine was al dente, the sauce was delish, and the seafood was fresh. The salad was also incredibly good - mixed greens with California yellow peaches, caramelized pecans, crumbled goat cheese, & a pomegranate dressing. It was a special but should be on regular rotation. For dessert we shared the Tiramisu and it did not disappoint. A few weeks later I returned. Our server, Carlos, was fantastic! An absolute delight. Pleasantly impressed- I feel like it's the perfect combo of casual meets a bit nicer in decor. It felt warm yet fun. But the best part of our visit hands down was the food. The short rib! OMG. It's amazing. I had a lemon spaghetti special that was delicious. The cacio Pepe is a must try. Perfect creaminess. We also ordered the bruschetta appetizer- it was fantastic! The bread was perfect. Desserts were super good too. The panna cota and the ice cream trio were my favs. The tartness of the sorbet balanced the vanilla and chocolate out perfectly. I will definitely be back. We got a couple of sandwiches here one was caprese the other the Italian girder... the caprese was meh but the grinder brought me back to going to "Belly Buster" as a kid. It was almost as good as the Buster but the bread was not quite there though still quite good. Great balance of meat and fixings and bread. The place was cute with a little shop by the sandwich counter. I'm interested in sitting down and trying some pasta next time. We've now visited this Italian deli four times, and there's so much to love--especially the warm, inviting atmosphere. That said, the noise level inside has become a real drawback. It gets quite loud, and some acoustic paneling on the ceiling would make a big difference in softening the sound and improving the overall dining experience. On this visit, we arrived early and were greeted by (who I believe was) one of the owners. Unfortunately, the welcome felt a bit cold, which was disappointing. Hospitality matters, especially in a place you want to return to. Service was mixed. We had the same waiter we've had before--he's kind and well-meaning, though still a bit inexperienced. After ordering an appetizer and two glasses of wine, we also placed our dinner order. Typically, you expect a bit of pacing so you can enjoy each course--but both the appetizer and entrées arrived at the same time, which took away from the experience. As for the food, there were some highlights. My husband really enjoyed his meatballs and pasta. My chicken parmesan, however, was just okay--nothing special, which is a bit surprising for such a classic dish. A couple of months ago on a weeknight I made the last minute decision to celebrate my birthday here with my immediate family. I was able to make reservations for 10 the day before with no problems. Upon arrival, parking was easy to find on the street. I was greeted with such warmth and familiarity. They accommodated the kids choice of meals and constantly checked to make sure we were doing well. Carlos was are served and he was amazing! He made some delicious recommendations on meals and we all loved it so much. The food was absolutely flavorful. They presented me with a desert and sang happy birthday to me in Italian. The ambience of this restaurant is absolutely beautiful as well. You can choose to have a nice sit down dinner, visit the bar or just simply order something quick to go. Saw a video promoting The Italian Deli Co and their authentic Italian dishes and went online to make a reservation for Saturday. For a restaurant that recently opened, the staff was friendly but it looks like they are still getting used to the weekend rush. Some things were a bit hit or miss, for example, a few of the Yelp pictures and promotions posted are outdated. The Parmesan cheese wheel event, which was advertised for weekends, is actually only available on weekdays. I was a little disappointed since I had really been looking forward to trying it. Parking: There's free curbside parking available right outside the restaurant, which is super convenient. However, it can get packed during peak hours, so I recommend looking around the residential streets. Food: We started with some coffee, on the menu it seems that they use beans from Italy. The coffee came with a biscuit with refills. We ordered the Brussels Sprouts, which were decent, nothing too special, but it's always nice to have some greens. For our main dishes, we ordered the Pasta Carbonara and the Lasagna. The Carbonara was creamy and flavorful, with thick, al dente pasta. I personally liked the Lasagna, it was rich, hearty, saucy, and generously portioned. I couldn't even finish it so we took it home. For dessert, we tried the Crème Brûlée Cheesecake, which was light, smooth, and not overly sweet. Seeing some reviews, I would love to try the panna cotta next time. This is relatively new restaurant that opened this summer, at the former The George restaurant location. The setting is pretty much the same, which compliments the Italian vibe. We came here for dinner during the week and was very impressed with the level of service and food. We ordered the Arancini as appetizer, which was very good, and the sauce was not overly tomatoey. I ordered the Carbonara which was very well seasoned and flavorful. She was hands-on the entire time -- making sure we had exactly what we needed, clarifying details, checking in thoughtfully, and staying focused on service. You can tell when someone cares about their tables. She does. But what stood out just as much was the entire staff. Every waiter and waitress walking by had a smile. They greeted us, asked if we needed anything, cleared plates immediately, kept the table organized, and made sure nothing was missing. Not once did anyone seem rushed, irritated, or disconnected. Every interaction felt intentional. Arms wide open hospitality. That's rare. The hostess (short blonde hair -- I wish I caught her name) went above and beyond in a way you just don't see anymore. The deli had technically closed, and our son only eats salami. Instead of saying no, she reopened the deli area, cut multiple samples so he could decide which one he liked best, and once he chose, she made him a simple, neatly plated dish with bread on the side. She made sure he was included. That mattered. It wasn't just service. It was care. We also learned they've started a Saturday & Sunday kids cooking-style activity for ages 5-11, and my kids are already asking to go back. I'll be booking as soon as there's an opening. The outside seating is cute, but it can get hot even with the misting spray above and the road (Washington) can get busy from a noise standpoint. There's a small deli and "market" inside but the focus and priority is really the restaurant. Service was very nice and acceptable as they work through getting used to things with the grand opening mode. I ordered a spaghetti. Yes, it's basic but they did a great job with it. I love this place. We came for dinner on a Thursday night around 8, and it was still buzzing -- about 80% full. For a weeknight, that says a lot. I was really looking forward to trying this spot for an early Friday dinner with my two sons around 5:30 PM today, but we didn't even make it to a table. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty at that hour, we were immediately met with by a blonde woman with glasses who asked if we had a reservation. When I mentioned that their online information says walk-ins are welcome and reservations aren't required, she dismissively told me twice they would be "busy at 6:00." She and another staff member then stood at the podium with their heads down, while we waited for an answer on whether a table was available. As a Mexican-American family dressed in casual clothing, the lack of basic hospitality made us feel incredibly out of place and unwelcome. We ultimately decided to leave rather than wait for people who clearly didn't want our business. The food was fresh and delicious, and the lasagna was exactly what we hoped for, large, cozy, creamy, hearty, and easily enough to share between two people. We are also looking forward to trying their deli items and more from the menu. So now there's an Italian deli/restaurant/bakery in my neck of the woods! Glad to see it. More reason to love East Pasadena. Parking is street, and it will get busy in that area as it shares a block with a few other commercial establishments. Inside looks larger than it does from the outside. Surprisingly, they even have a bar. Lots of seating inside, and a few shaded seats outside. Full menu is provided, along with a to-go area right at the entrance where you can order one of their many Italian sandwiches. The nice kid who took my order was helpful and patient. Asked what was the most popular sandwich and it was the Italian Deli Hero. So I went ahead and got that. Sandwich is large and pretty solid. They don't skimp out on the meats. Bread was surprisingly soft and quite easy to eat. Best part of the sandwich for sure. Took about 15 minutes to make, so if you're in a real hurry, go down the street to Subway. As another reviewer had stated, the tall, older gent who works there might be a little rough around the edges. He got a little curt with me when I misunderstood what he had asked at the cash register, but oh well. He seems like a decent man who's probably under a lot of pressure. No hard feelings. We visited The Italian Deli to pick up sandwiches for dinner. Everyone was friendly and hard at work. I was happy to see that there was a bit of a crowd considering they'd only been open a few days. There are a couple of tables and chairs outside with cute sidewalk seating. We had the Grinder and Vito's. I was really impressed by the flavors of the Vito's. Their bread is perfect- it has a nice softness and a beautiful crust. We are happy to have these guys in the neighborhood and will definitely be back! read more

I will sum up my experience quickly and easily. A couple of years ago we were walking around Rome, and happened upon a quaint restaurant. I ordered some pasta that day, and I still dream about that meal. Well, fast forward to last week, and we went to lunch at Italian Deli Co. I had the bowl of hand made pasta with Bolognese sauce, which instantly transported me back to Rome, and all for a fraction of the cost! My wife had the flat bread Margarita pizza which was also light and delicious. Can't wait to return and try more of their menu. read more

I have visited The Italian Deli Co twice and both times I've been amazed at how wonderful this restaurant is! The space itself is welcoming and the waiters are friendly, polite, and patient with their guests. Thankfully I have been able to enjoy various delicious dishes , such as the Pollo Al Marsala plate, lasagna plate, ensalada della casa, pane e olio, mortadella e pistachio pizza. I was recently also able to try a few seasonal menu items that were simply amazing, which included their crepes made with pears and served with espresso ice cream. Also, we were able to enjoy a few various red wines recommended by our lovely waitress, Mindy. Ultimately, I will drive the one hour it takes me to get here to enjoy a lovely meal with a dear friend any day . read more

This is such a charming place and beautifully curated inside. If you pass by the smells will call you in. You might just want to have a cappuccino or cold Peroni. The service was great and very welcoming. Since this place is fairly new I wanted to try the basics. I very much enjoyed the food, everything was warm and so fresh. I loved how different the pizza was. It has a corn meal bottom and nice texture. The pasta was cooked well and not drenched in sauce. I had a solid first experience and definitely want to go back for a group lunch. read more

I came here for breakfast a couple months ago and it was delicious!! Dinner was the same! The Pinza Vegetariano was perfect--crisp but slightly chewy crust, delicious veggies and tangy sauce with just the right amount of cheese. Hunny ordered the Pinza Diavalo which had thick slices of spicy salame. To die for!! We saved room for their holiday dessert, cookie bread pudding with espresso gelato. Yum!!! Service was impeccable. And the place was busy, as it should be on a Friday night. Definitely noisy. As someone who's hard of hearing, it would be difficult to hear if we had another couple with us.
