three burritos on a yellow plate

Oh my gosh! This place has gone downhill. I ordered a sandwich to be picked up, and when I got there it was just sitting on top of some thing I don't know. It wasn't even put in the refrigerator and it was a cold sandwich. I got it home, 12 miles away, and when I opened it I thought it was such a puny sandwich. Then I started eating it. The bread was not even cooked completely. It was doughy and nasty. I guess I'm done with SUBWAY® for a while. A long while. One star is too much.

Just passing through the area and thought a sandwich would be better then fast food. Do yourself a favor and hit up the neighboring Safeway Deli. Corporate needs to pay this place a visit. The restroom was awful. Not a clean table in the place, Went to order and they were out of tomato, bell peppers, chicken, meatballs and ice. Place lacks overall cleanliness.

Came here for dinner after work with a co worker. Lily was the one who attended us. She was really friendly, attentive & took her time making our food. My only disappointment was they don't offer honey oat bread.

We arrived around…read moremidday and once we'd gotten our hotel room sorted, we realized that after hours on the road eating gas station snacks, we were pretty hungry for a real meal. It's New Years Day 2026 and we assumed that most non-chain-brand places in a small town like this would be closed, but we gave Side Iron BBQ a call and were pleasantly surprised to find that they were open. Upon entering the place, we immediately knew we'd made a good choice. Side Iron is located inside the Pioneer Building and is dripping with legit old-school frontier ambiance combined with touches of classic Americana. There's an antique piano and fully-functional vintage pinball machine in the entryway, and as you pass into the main dining tall you'll find a full-scale pool table, a shelf of classic board games, a foosball game, and even some well-maintained acoustic guitars placed around, all of which invite visitors to not just scarf down a meal, but to hang out and have a great time. I've had the good fortune to eat BBQ in Texas numerous times and it has basically ruined California BBQ for me - certainly nothing I've had in the Bay Area can really compete with what I've had in Texas. Despite that, I had a good feeling about Side Iron so we went ahead and ordered a variety of items - brisket, pulled pork, a sausage link, fried okra, mac and cheese, jalapeno bacon corn, and even a burger. I'm delighted to report that this was hands-down the best BBQ I've ever had in California, and is right up there with the best BBQ I've ever eaten, period. The smoked brisket in particular was a real standout: tender, juicy, and with delightfully crispy burned edges. I seriously cannot overstate how good everything was. If Side Iron was located within 50 miles of San Francisco, there would've been a line of "food influencers" three blocks long and we would've paid 2-3X as much for this meal. The fact that we were the only patrons on New Years Day and enjoyed this incredible feast for a fraction of the price we would've paid closer to home is genuinely incredible. If you like BBQ and you're EVER anywhere near Susanville, you absolutely cannot miss the chance to try Side Iron!

They had lots of old memorabilia and some great paintings. I ordered a brisket sandwich and it was over $25 with coleslaw. It was about a pound and a half of meat so I understood the price. But I was still surprised that it was so expensive. California has some great things, but it's always expensive. The guy who took my order said things were getting expensive and I understood. The sandwich was really delicious, there could've been a little more coleslaw. But pretty amazing. I'll get three or four meals out of the brisket. Delicious!

Pretty decent store. But....ahhh, there's always a but when you don't make 5 stars…read more Amanda and Sailor--- in the deli section making sandwiches and etc? Here's the deal. It seems to me, ladies, that you should know that forks and napkins and spoons are essential to the deli business. After walking around and not finding any, you can imagine that the average Joe or...Jodi might be mildly annoyed. Not ticked..., not upset, just --you know kind of like a fly buzzing. No biggie. Upon asking for a spoon, you advised something to the effect that "you have to ask for spoons ..........now.....?" Whatever. After sitting down to my hot chicken soup, I noticed I didn't have a napkin. Back to the counter. "Excuse me, ma'am, any napkins?" Now I am 58. You? Well gentlemen don't ask nor do they venture to guess. Suffice it to say, I am older. So, the appropriate response ....I think, would be to say "very sorry, sir" or "one moment please and I'll help you out." Instead, w/o even looking at me you said...."--go over to Starbucks." So, now you mix in that annoyance with the fact that I can't find a dang napkin, had to search for a spoon and it's become a "double --maybe a triple whammy" if you will. (Depends on how you count, e.g., attitude, and whether you count the napkin and the spoon separately). I wandered over to Starbucks again and can't find napkins. NAAPPPPKINS! They're not in plain site, that's for sure. So back to the counter. I make a point this time of looking at your name tags. I ask, "can you please get some napkins" to which you respond "we're out, that's why I sent you over to Starbucks." OK, back over to Starbucks. I wait for the lady to finish with her frappe-whatever for a customer and ask for a napkin. She advised that they're back around the corner. Hidden in my view.....but----whatever, my soup's getting cold. Aside from the customer-service niceties and the fact that the deli is out of key utensils .....aside from the fact that Amanda and Sailor didn't seem to give a rat's behind....nor, apparently the store management, HERE IS WHAT GIVES ME HOPE!!!!!! Sailor tracked me down! !!!!!!! Yup!!!! She sought me out. I was at Starbucks sipping soup. She didn't apologize. Nor, did she smile . But, she did walk over to Starbucks where I was having my soup and asked why I looked at her nametag --which is not your everyday name--Sailor. I told her I just wanted a napkin. She advised again that she didn't have any. I said ---ok, thank you. But, the fact that she searched me out suggests she CARES. Perhaps there were other motives. Perhaps she was pissed that I dared to get her name. But, I choose to believe she CARES. In the future Amanda and Sailor.....I know work can be a drudgery....and people who are having bad days can add to your own difficulties....but; suck it up butter cup!!!! Smile. Try to be helpful. Smoke and joke with the customers dragging their feet in a funk. I'll bet if you make someone smile.....you'll feel better. That's all. Now get some forks, spoons, and napkins out. And if the manager says he doesn't have any; you might use it as your first joke to a customer who will look at you, relate, and be totally in synch with how you're feeling. Remember. Smile . It'll pay off.

Unfortunately, we just couldn't find anything that tickled our fancy and opted to go find a restaurant instead. We fully understand that a smaller footprint supermarket cannot carry everything a larger store can. The customer base can't support it and it simply wouldn't be profitable. However, there is no excuse that staffing in the deli department can't spend two minutes a hour to stir the prepared salads. Nothing is less appealing than when the outer layer forms a "crust" giving the impression that the food is not "fresh". You can easily see a difference in texture and color between the portion of the salad that has not been touched compared to the portion of the salad that has been served from. Pass.
