I have been an irregular shopper at this since 2012. This has been my go to Indian grocery store because it's right next to NJ-17 Northbound. I primarily go here for Maggi noodles, Maggi sauce, Indian spices, pickles, curry powder, snacks and sometimes sweets, yogurt, basmati rice and mango lassi. Items have fairly decent price and have a good variety of Indian brands. This store used be dark and old. But they have done a renovation after which its appearance has improved significantly. New front signs, new floors, aisle markings, new fridges were added as part of renovation. But still the shelves in vegetables area are way outdated. Vegetables and fruits also don't appear appealing to me. So I stick to the non perishable items. In all these years of shopping here, I never had any problem. Staff are friendly and helpful usually. Checkout lanes are usually fast. Hope they keep doing well, so I can keep doing my desi grocery shopping from here. read more

I like Subzi Bazaar this is a small Indian grocery store that has hard to find plant based cooking items that are very inexpensive. These same items can be expensive in other grocery stores. The staff are all helpful, and friendly. Parking is easy. Definitely a great place to purchase bulk items for vegetarians, and vegans. read more

Remarkably one of the good things that came out of this social distance was my return back to cooking. Yesterday my partner Ralph and I waited almost 1 1/2 hour just to go inside the 99 Ranch Supermarket(an Asian market) in Hackensack, NJ as I was picking up some ingredients for Pad Thai. We left there without the tamarind sauce which was one of the key ingredients to this recipe. After doing some research and a call, we came this morning to this Indian market predominantly catered to the Indian cuisine in Rochelle Park next to the Outback Restaurant off of Route 17 north. This average size store has a large variety of frozen foods as well as appetizers such as roti and samosa. They also have fresh produce such as parwals (pointed gourds) and assorted sauces. So if your ingredients call for something of an Indian spice not found in the local market, this could be the place. read more

My friend Val X. and I stopped in to grab some groceries and snacks on our lunch break. The staff gave us (the only two non-Indian people) in the store the illest looks. Val was completely unaware of their stares as she went to buy her safi. I was enamored with their snack menu, while Val did her shopping. I picked up some pan, a chicken samosa, and a big potato samosa. One of the staff members questioned if I really knew what pan was and if I actually wanted it. Frustrating, since I definitely know what it is and I've had it in India. The samosas were cold and mediocre. The "big" potato samosa was one of the smaller ones I've had. The samosas are definitely better at the Subzi Bazaar in West Nyack. Prices for the Indian ingredients are about the same, so no big difference. read more

Subzi Bazaar is a convenient local Indian grocery store where you can find pretty much anything and everything Indian. Prices are high for some items, so I'd recommend price comparison for things you can buy at Shoprite, like cashews and almonds. The store isn't the cleanest or the most organized, and 99% of the time the cashiers and staff are unfriendly. $10 credit card minimum, but the most important thing I must emphasis is CHECK THE PRICES WHILE YOU'RE BEING RUNG UP! This store is notorious for labeling their shelves with one price, but charging you a different price at the register. Please pay attention at check out! It could save you a lot. Other than that hiccup, decent amount and variety of inventory if you're not an avid Indian food consumer, so it's perfect for quick little trips. read more

You'll find most if not all of what you need. Go here for bulk spices and Indian produce. Prices for Indian food are comparable, possibly less expensive than other Indian grocers I've frequented, with the exception of those found in Jersey City. This place has a little shop where you can get limited Indian snacks/entrees made-to-order. This was my first time trying bhelpuri, so I can't compare, but it was fresh and full of flavor. I haven't been to the other locations, but I agree with my fellow yelpers that some..... Key word "some" items are expensive. The staples I come here for are rice, flour, lentils, Indian seasonings and Indian produce that's hard to find at your regular supermarkets. It's pretty difficult to find turmeric root and certain okras, but in here it's easy peasy! In addition, there rice and flour options are vast and in bulk, I'm talking 10-30 pound bags here folks! Exotic produce, spices and the masala naan breads are my excuse for stopping in. Now and again the frozen samosa's or pakoras are a useful grab -- but check the born on dates. Beware of the prepared food here! My friend Nick C. was on a mission to have me try some samosas, since I was unaware what they were. He was on a quest to enlighten me and indulge my taste buds. Walking into the store it wasn't the most appealing market I've been too. I'm not sure if it was the lighting but it was a tad dreary but nonetheless I was on a mission. This is one of the few places that you can buy safi. Reading reviews about how safi transforms your skin to a radiant goddess I had try this magic. I bought a huge bottle for $9, which is nothing for glowing skin. Moving on,their cooked food selection is very minimal but that wasn't going to stop me from trying a samosa. Being my first samosa I really have no other samosas to compare it too. I'm not a regular customer of theirs but I do stop in from time to time to pick up an item or two. I usually get some dried fruit or nuts. Their almonds are fresh, delicious and well-priced. Their clients seem to be mostly ethnic Indians. I can't actually remember a time when I wasn't the only non Indian in the place. I assume this means that their offerings are authentic and well-priced. One huge issue is that, for lack of a better word, the store is filthy. Floors, shelves, glass, displays, counters and just about everything else could use a thorough cleaning. If this was a mainstream supermarket, they'd probably be closed and reviews would be dismal. They do have a cafe but I would never consider eating there because I'm so skived by the rest of the place. It's really a shame because I do like Indian food. Oh well.... read more

Here's a little tip: to get inside you have to go around the building to the back of it in order to enter the store, so technically the 'store front' is around the back. You have make a right off highway {17 North} and go down the side street a short distance to get to the parking lot and entrance.The parking lot will be on your right. Check out the two photos I added. I love to cook Indian food and this place has tons of ingredients for Indian / Middle eastern cooking, both fresh and dry ingredients. Herbs spices, basmati rice etc. This place is indispensable when it comes to finding ingredients for this type of cuisine. I buy my beans, rices and spices in bulk here. Pretty nice store. I liked everything about it except that I couldn't get curry leaves there, which I thought was odd. They have just about every other produce item imaginable but not curry leaves? I don't know, maybe I was just there on a bad day. I do like that it is a really quick 5 minute drive from my place in Hackensack, I could even walk there I felt like it. I cook a lot of South Indian food and for the most part, this place has me covered. I just wish that I knew that curry leaves would be there because this place is so much easier to get to than the store in Lodi I go to more often :( read more

Avoid this place. Not only do they charge higher prices, they even don't check and discard expired stock. Bought some Indian snacks and found that they were past the expiration date. In another trip we bought some fruits and vegetables and those had all gone bad. The management doesn't seem to care about quality. Have had at least three bad experiences and now I have finally decided that a trip to Jersey City is better than wasting time at Subzi Bazaar. The prices are cheap and that's where the positive portion of this review ends. If you like to shop in a disorganized, dirty, back alley in a circus like environment with rude service then this is the place for you! Products are placed in any location with no thought to store layout. Conditions are dark, dirty and cramped. During these COVID times you would think they might have a limit on persons allowed in the store but this last visit was so cramped it was a Covid cess-pool. It was incredibly un-safe. The highlight of our trip was when we were in line to purchase sweets at the sweets counter and a man standing behind us proceeded to jump in front, wedge his body into the crevice beside the counter so he could point and breath all over the sweets from the opening in the back. We told the woman managing the counter were first and she ignored us and let the man continue to order and breath all over the open sweets and gesture violently as if he were conducting some crazed orchestra. PLEASE try to follow some safety precautions or any precautions for that matter! Don't visit if you value your health!! read more

This place is amazing! While they recently upgraded the produce section (yay!), it seems they downgraded the spice selection, which to me was honestly the most incredible part of this cool store. I used to buy a 7 OZ bag of Swad red pepper flakes for 2.99. Now the only option is a 5.5 oz plastic container (overkill), much higher priced at 5.99. Still a bargain compared to getting this much red pepper at a regular market, but I came to expect that better bargain from Subzi. Perhaps they will eventually bring the spice aisle back to its original glory! And here's a rave: Masala Yogurt. I am in love. It is spicy, sweet, and rich!! You really owe it to yoourself to check this market out (and get some yogurt). read more

I had to walk out after waiting in a long line and the ladies up front don't care at all about anything except the TV. Terrible place and service. I can get my things elsewhere. This is my first review ever on Yelp because I am so disgusted by Subzi Bazaar. I am Indian and just moved to NJ from New York and was looking for a place to get staples like Tea, Atta and some Indian veggies. My experience at this store has been terrible. Here is what I found: 1) WAYY MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OTHER INDIAN STORES: The groceries are WAY more expensive than Patel bros. because this store is the only such store in the area. Edison is very far from where I live and Jersey City is a parking nightmare. Some veggies are gnarly and old and you have to sort through it carefully to get fresh veggies. 2) WORMS IN THE ATTA: I once bought Laxmi brand atta and found that the thing had little worms in it when I opened the package. I went back to return it and the owner then LECTURED me on buying the wrong brand of atta. Hello? Your atta has worms in it!!! He exchanged the atta with another brand but it was pretty disgusting that he knew there were problems with the batch but didn't do anything about it. 3) TEA WAS EXPIRED, WAY PAST SELL DATE: Most recently, I bought Brooke Bond Red Label tea because I ran out of the stuff I buy from India. The tea tasted funny. At first, I thought it was because I wasn't used to this brand. But I figured something was wrong and checked. The tea was manufactured in October 2009. I had bought the tea in March 2013. WTF people!!! That's disgusting. Please don't shop here. When you shop in America, you can confidently buy stuff that won't have worms in it or is way past its sell by date. This guy is in business because people are bound by habits and keep returning. This is no way to run a business in the community. I have a small child - what if I buy stuff from here and my kid gets ill. I feel I narrowly dodged that bullet. I am not Indian but my husband is. I shop in Subzi Bazaar in Rochelle Park EVERY WEEK and I will tell you THEY ARE NOT EXPENSIVE!!! As a matter-of-fact, their prices are much lower than the major groceries stores in the area. Tell me, when is the last time you purchased a box of Morton Salt for .75 cents ? ? ? Please be careful at the counter. My friend had warned me that they charge you twice for items, so this time I was paying attention while at the counter. But when I went to my car and checked the bill, I found that i was charged twice for the most expensive item in the list ($9.99) . Immediately I went back, and the girl at the counter gave me $10 back. I thought she acted like she knew it. But I didnt want to make a scene in front of some Americans there, so I kept quiet. You will get the needed Indian groceries here, but they are over priced and you should make sure that you are billed for the items you purchased. There are billing errors and the same item is billed twice and checked this only after returning home. Make sure you check the bill before leaving. I just bought wheat flour(Aashirwad) from Sabzi Bazar and found that it had worms scrolling in side. And clumps of flour.And manufacture date and batch number was erased.I would suggest that do not go there and buy the items.It was bad that they don't care about people and selling the bad items. read more
