I booked this via email after reading reviews and all 3 of us wanted to go in at the same time. Response rate was good and we got a booking in for 2 days time. I'll probably give it a try again with a different masseuse. The location was convenient and easy to locate. Prices are average and the place was clean enough. Although all 3 of us enjoyed our massage, it was a hit and miss ranging from the service we received. I got the deep tissue and requested for hard pressure, which didn't really quite hit the mark. I had circled the areas I wanted to be focussed on (and didn't want anything on the front) and she rarely hit the areas on my lower back. She then proceeded to massage my head, which I then told her not to and just to focus on my shoulders to finish off. She informed me that she would give me "only 20 times more". I didn't want argue and accepted it while she counted it out loudly for everyone to hear. My masseuse was also 15mins late and although this didn't bother me, she didn't go the entire hour. Pretty sad I didn't love this place as I live nearby and my old place closed. I booked a particular masseuse the night before and they called me and asked if I had a preference which seemed odd but I assumed the person I booked for may have not actually been available. Therefore, I am not sure who my masseuse was and perhaps if I had the one I booked for the experience would have been better as that person had great reviews. Great experience for a massage! Included hot sauna prior to massage. I attended along with four friends. We called one day before looking for 4 massages the next day and they were able to book us promptly. We all booked the trigger point massage. They informed us we could present early for the sauna. We unfortunately did not arrive early enough for the sauna but the staff was friendly and pushed our massages back so we could enjoy the sauna. Oof... my back hurts. I had a 60 min massage with a male therapist that absolutely was NOT trained and I'm pretty sure damages you more than actually massaging you. He did not speak to me at all, surprisingly, not asking for more or less pressure and he was acting out of violence it felt like when he was throwing my limbs about and stepping on me and trying to bend my limbs. I have had multiple Thai massages, some even in Thailand and this was truly NOTHING like those, it felt like an angry teenager was trying to hurt me for taking his lunch or something. It was truly the worst and most terrible massage I've ever had and I'm sorry to say that since i know there are other masseuses here that do better jobs I'm sure but I wanted to leave an honest and open review of my massage. To top it all off... the guy's feet smelled pretty bad and they were ALL over me. Blech. The location is decent - good parking and the inside is kind of neat how they decorated it but it's a bit run down. I've always heard how painful Thai massages are so I've never been to one! My partner surprised me for a weekend massage date. It was a sweet gesture but was definitely nervous. The lobby area was decorated beautiful and gave a very relaxed environment. The receptionist hands you a sheet where you circle where you want the therapist to focus on. Also how much pressure you would like. We didn't have to wait too long and we were led to the massage room. The room itself could probably fit around 5-7 people at once. It was all divided with fabric hanging from the ceiling. It was dim and smelled really nice. We got to our couples area and were given these alladin pants! Very comfortable. The therapist I had was super sweet and calm. He asked all the right questions and started the session. I was a bit nervous so I don't think I was relaxed as much but dang it was a good massage. It is a weird sensation to have someone stand on top of you and using their toe knuckles to massage. Once I got comfortable I definitely felt way more relaxed. My favorite part is actually the stretching. It was actually kind of enjoying being put in weird positions but it felt really good to be stretched out. Manee stood out as one of the most beloved masseuses, so I booked an appointment with her. It was my first Thai massage, and I'll never go back to Swedish. Manee is as much of a rock star as I'd hoped, and more. She's kind, she understands my body (more than I do, it sometimes seems), she pushes where necessary and yet she's super responsive. My pain tolerance is like.... ZERO. But once in awhile, I have to subject myself to some pain because I know that it'll benefit me in the long run. So for an hour, I lie there and let this petite Thai girl, Nikki, work on me. She knows I'm a wuss and checks on me often: "are you ok? do you want more pressure?" to which I just silently nod to in response because I'm afraid my voice will betray me and say: "no more pain!!" But seriously, between the stretching poses, the way she kneads my back with her elbows and steps on me using nothing but a piece of cloth hanging from the ceiling to balance herself, oi. This girl KNOWS her stuff. This Suchada Thai location is smaller than its counterpart in the Embarcadero, but it's easy to get appointments -- I've gotten speedy replies online and on phone messages. It's $60 for a traditional Thai massage and recently, they started giving a massage card, buy 9 and get the 10th one 50% off. I've taken my mom here multiple times (she's a very discriminating massage therapist) and she is pleased with the results. I think I heard her say one time, "I prefer the guy because he gives it to me hard." Ummm, what position are we on NOW? I lost count at 128734908... Let me preface by saying that Thai Massages are not for everyone esp if you do NOT have a high pain threshold. I get Chinese Foot Reflexology and Deep Tissue Massages on a regular basis and Thai Massages are much MORE intense. You will be bent, pulled, and stretched into positions you never thought your body was capable of. You will get elbowed and kneed at every little crevices of your body and you will leave feeling like you got pounded w/ a meat tenderizer and whacked w/ a rolling pin. BUT BOY, I TELL YOU, EVERY TEETH CLINCH, SQUIRM AND SQUEAL WILL BE WORTH IT... Last night, Nov 1st, my friend and I came to Suchada for the "HOT ON YELP" Deal: $150 for a 3-hr Royal Lanna Massage (reg $300). This was my 5th time coming to Suchada. All the other times, I got the Thai Aroma Massage which is a relaxing combo of Deep Tissue Massage, Swedish Massage and Stretching. For some reason, I thought the Royal Lanna Massage would somewhat be an extended version of the TAM, but I was in for a rude awakening. ROYAL LANNA MASSAGE: A 3-part massage w/ each part to last 60 mins, however, my timing differed. And, my massage was only 2 hrs & 40 mins even though my masseuse, Patty was 20 mins late on starting. 1) Thai Foot Reflexology (~50 mins). My feet were soaked in an herbal foot bath and bathed with lime slices. After drying my feet, I was asked to lay down on my back. The TFR is very similar to CFR (those $30/hr foot massages prevalent in SF's Sunset & Richmond districts), however, it's much more comprehensive and intense. While CFR spend about 20 mins on your feet and 40 mins on other parts of your body, TFR solely focuses on your feet. Massage cream was applied to my feet and calves. Patty used her thumbs to powerfully glide along the arch and soles of my feet, and calves. She used strong circular motions on the top of my feet. She then used her knuckles to get into every nook and cranny of my feet. At times, she would get a wooden stick and poke at various points on my feet. The TFR ended with her cracking every single toe. 2) Aroma Massage (~25 mins): This is where the "beating" began. Warm lavender oil was lathered on my back. With all her might, Patty used her elbows, forearms and fists to dig into my back. Her elbows and fists jabbed into various regions of my back and she used her forearms to glide across the jabbed areas. I spend 9 hrs everyday slouched across the computer and have constant back pains. The back massage was very intense and made me squirm at times, but it instantly relieved all my tension in my shoulders and back. My Aroma Massage only lasted about 20-25 mins before Patty started w/ the Herbal Massage. However, it looks like she combined the 2 massages together and interchanged between the oil and the herbal compress. 3) Herbal Massage (~85 mins): A warm herbal compress made with Cassumunar (ginger), Camphor (menthol), Lemon Grass and Kiffir-Lime was dabbed on my back. She then proceeded to massage the back of my thighs and legs w/ the lavender oil. This was the MOST painful part of the massage. She shoved her elbows into my legs and then used her entire body weight and pressed her palms on them. The entire time I wanted to scream, but I sucked it up thinking she was probably doing my cellulite a favor. She ended the torture by pulling my leg 90 degrees up while I was laying on my back. Next, she had me lay on my side w/ one leg hugging a pillow and both my arms crossed while she dug her elbow and fists into my shoulder, back and rib cage. Again, she shoved her elbows and into my legs and thighs. The final round of the "beating" ended while I laid flat on my back. Patty massaged my head, neck and shoulders paying special attention to various pressure points. She then proceeded w/ dabbing the herbal compress on my chest, stomach and the front of my legs while beating my cellulite w/ her elbows, fists, and palms again. She then had me sit Indian style and gave me a shoulder and back rub. The massage ended w/ the "wringing a wet towel" stretch while she stomped on the side of my back. AFTER EFFECTS: Walking out of Suchada, I literally felt like I've been run over by a landfill compactor. Less than 2 hrs later at 11:30 PM, I KTFO. I'm an insomniac and I'm lucky to even get 4 hrs of sleep. However, last night was the first time in a LONG time that I got 6 hrs of uninterrupted sleep. This AM, I slept through my 1st alarm and literally had to pry myself off my bed. When I got up, the back pains that I normally wake up w/ was completely gone (even w/ a deep tissue massage the day prior, I wake up w/ back pains) and the tenderness from my legs went away. My entire body is still sore though, but a good sore like after having a vigorous workout. "No Pain, No Gain" definitely rings true with Thai Massages. As a Thai, I can tell you Suchada is the place to go for a real Thai massage. Their staffs have trained both in Thailand and in the U.S. There are different types of Thai massage, traditional, herbal, aroma, foot. Make sure you understand the main purpose of each massage before you make an appointment. Also know your ability to receive each massage. For example, if you've never done Thai massage before, go easy with foot massage or aroma massage. If you'd done Thai massage long time ago, I'd recommend you get the aroma massage to start with. This massage is a combination of Thai & Swedish, designed to relax muscles and reduce stress both emotional and physical. You can tell your masseuse if you feel like she puts too much pressure on your body. This way you won't get hurt and your masseuse knows how much pressure she should do for you. That's the sound of me breathing, long relaxed breaths, while my body is in state of nirvanic awareness, flexibility and stillness. And it's been 4 days since my massage! I decided to try Suchada after reading the review on SF Station. I had been longing for a Thai massage since visiting a spa in Chang Mai with my mom a couple of years ago, and this one promised to be the real deal. It is. The business is 3 months new, and consists of the owner, Apple Duatpagra, and maybe one other employee. She runs the massage therapy out of her home - seems a little odd when you pull up on the residential street (it's wayyyyy out there by the ocean), but once you are welcomed inside, you enter into a lovely oasis where every sense (smell, touch, sound, even taste) is attended to, and this new world envelops you with the promise of good things to come. The spa is rich is color (reds, dark wood), a far cry from the beige-ness of the surrounding neighborhoood, which instantly melts away. I had booked a 2-hour herbal Thai massage (2 hours for $120! Great price, I was feeling relaxed already). While I sipped fresh mint tea, Apple explained to me about the herbs she would be using, and their benefits. Then the work began. How to describe a Thai massage - if you've never had one, it's probably different than what you are used to. You're on a matress on the floor. This one was heated. The masseuse uses his or her entire body to move yours into yoga type positions, as well as massages your muscles with hands and sometimes fingertips (the pressure opens up your muscles and helps break up the toxins). It doesn't always feel soothing - this is no Swedish rub. In the herbal part of this massage, a hot bag of herbs (a large bouquet garni, if you will), is pressed on to your body and held there for a short time to let the herbs penetrate. It's a very (non-sexual, non-sensual) intimate massage - in that you are working, breathing together. OK, I didn't really do any work, it was done to me. But I fully participated! When I wasn't snoring! (such a delicate flower...) I can't speak more highly of how I felt afterwards. Loose, fluid, peaceful, relaxed, (dare I say) happy, accepting. I went in there as my usual high-strung, over-thinking, non-breathing, somewhat spastic self and emerged a new, grounded, whole being. Apple is very professional, but a gentle soul and extremely caring - a healer in all senses, both body and mind. If you want to try something different, that won't break the bank ($60 for an hour! C'mon!), I highly recommend Suchada. Be patient with the scheduling - they're still small, so it' only one appointment at time. But having the whole place to yourself, like some mythical Thai prince or princess, is well worth it. read more

This place has taken a turn for the worst and is not what it used to be. Like several recent reviewers have noted, massages start late, the masseuses are skimping on the hour, they're giving half-assed Swedish massages when people request (and pay extra for) deep tissue, and many masseuses are just generally lacking in any sort of real skills. This place is like a cattle call. It used to be that they only hired top-notch masseuses such that you can pick anyone at random and get a great massage. Not so anymore. They've grown so much and have gotten so popular via Yelp that they're cutting corners and worse yet, ripping people off. Let me go into some details: The worst problem of all is that more often than not, the masseuses are simply bad. You pay $80 for a deep tissue massage, which is by no means cheap, and you get someone who's giving you something worse than a Swedish massage. They put in very little effort and pressure (even if you circle medium to strong pressure) and kind of just rub/pinch you lightly all over. Afterwards, you feel no difference, no relief from tension, and you paid for essentially nothing. Or, you get someone who used to be excellent, but because they're overworked or disgruntled or for whatever reason, they start slacking. You circle a few areas on the chart before your massage, and your masseuse doesn't even work on those areas. Massages start more than 15 minutes late, and they still end on time! There wasn't even a clock in the room, I had checked my phone afterwards and realized they ripped me off. Some examples: Bow and Matha used to be excellent at deep tissue. For one reason or another, they've become hugely disappointing. Bow was the one who started 15 minutes late, still ended on time, and still charged me for the full hour. I had circled my back, neck, and shoulders, and she hardly worked on my neck at all. The massage was more like a bad Swedish massage rather than any sort of deep tissue. The pressure was also very light. She used to be so good at deep tissue and was very diligent, not sure what happened. Sun is highly rated here, but I found him to be quite rude. He seemed irked that my muscles were tight, as if I was burdening him. He paused a lot during the massage, sighed a lot, left the room a couple of times, and also didn't work on my neck despite the fact that I had circled that area (I had only circled back, neck, and shoulders). His excuse? "We only have 15 minutes left and your neck is too tight." Tammy (Tammi/Tami/Tammi) was awful. She seems to be the obvious amateur, who has no idea how to give a proper deep tissue massage. She's very friendly, but they need to be charging a much lower rate for inexperienced masseuses, or just don't hire them at all. I've had Anthony a couple of times. He's very friendly and diligent. He's very good at deep tissue, and he works hard. He's probably the last remaining person I would go to. The "rooms" are just areas that they segregate with curtains. Because they've grown so large so fast, the rooms are now even smaller than before. The room I had yesterday wasn't even a rectangular room, it was triangular, like a slice of cake. It was difficult to walk from one side of the room to the other because it was so tiny and cramped with the massage bed. The curtains don't fully close on the sides so people could see you change and you can hear all the noises from your neighbors. They're doing this so they can cram more people in. TL;DR - I would NOT recommend this place for deep tissue massages anymore. Unskilled, disgruntled, amateur masseuses, short you on the hour, and put in virtually no effort. WOW!! First time coming here today and all I can say is WOW!! (okay, a little more than that, since I need to review it). I didn't know what to expect and hate the unexpected. The experience from beginning to end was amazing. Probably one of the best massages I had (with clothes on suprisingly). I check-in she had me fill out info on what areas they should focus on and what areas to avoid (I had an injury on one of my big toes and advised to avoid it). I waitied in the lobby and my name was called and was led to the room. There was a loose shorts laying there, but I was not sure if I was suppose to change or not. The person must have forgotten I was new and then Belle, my massuse, came in and said I was to change to the shorts, but they forgot the loose white shirt in the room, so they got me one. Okay, I am alittle slow and didn't know how to wear the shorts...but after a few minutes I figured it put as the strings goes on the back and then you tie it to the front. The shirt was funky too, but you tie it in the front. TA-DA! I didn't know if I laid on my stomach like other massages or what since I never had a Thai massage, so Belle came in and said to lay in my stomach and my face goes in the pillow with the hole, which I didn't see...my bad. It was dimly lit in the room. Okay, let the massage begin. The Thai massage was somewhat like a deep tissue massage as that is the only way to get into my soreness and she really worked it with her hands, knees, elbows, feet...it was a heavenly bliss actually. I put my body thru alot and this was a treatment I needed. For 70 minutes, she worked me and at the end really put in yoga type poses to help stretch me and it felt so good. Also, she avoided my big toe that had the injury - glad she my chart and remembered. When the massage ended, I wanted more...next time, I will need to make it longer than 70 minutes. After I got dressed, I headed back to the lobby and what was given to me was a shot glass of coconut water, peach, and trail mix. This may be only given becasue I got the Father's Day special. It was just a good ending to a wonderful experience. I will have to make this a monthly visit. read more
