Ok this place is AWESOME! Um I seriously felt silly for not bringing my laptop with me to work. It's a fantastic place to grab coffee and a delicious treat and get some serious work done. I spent far too much time staring at the case full of house made treats. I finally chose a blueberry crumb frangipane tart and a passion fruit macron with a cold brewed coffee! The macron was soooo good! Like so good. It was tart and sweet and chewy and fantastic. The tart was perfect as well. The coffee is prepared perfectly. I wanted chocolate sauce and I was advised against adding it because it's just sink to the bottom, but I was still given a sample. All coffee syrups are house made as well and again.. fantastic! OMG! Cannot say enough good about this bakery. They know how to bake it! Their little heart shaped almond cakes rate in my top 10 "be still my heart" foods. The croissants are well crafted with a variety of yum fillings and the fruit tarts are delish. The delicate lavender cookies are perfection. OMG THE COCONUT & MOCHA MACAROONS!!!! Gluten-free + amazing. My boyfriend and I let out groans of pleasure after every bite. The coconut one has real coconut inside, and the mocha one has big chocolate chunks and other assorted chocolates inside. Both had the most incredible flavor & texture! This place is amazing. I can't believe I passed by it nearly every day for two years and now this is my third time here in just a few weeks. The place has such a good atmosphere. It's got tables and very comfortable seating. The staff is so darn nice and helpful and don't even get me started on the Saturday cinnamon rolls. This place is legit divine. I was out in St. Charles for a quick meeting on Friday and ended up getting a last minute invite for lunch. I didn't want to show up to lunch empty handed so I consulted Yelp for a nearby bakery and Sucrose came up. It's apparently fairly new. It's decorated in a modern and minimalistic way and I love the logo with the sucrose molecular structure. Very clever. I ended up buying 6 iced decorated cookies (3 watermelon and 3 beehive) and 12 french macarons. This came to $34 and some change which I felt was on the high side. It all looked beautiful and everyone at lunch thought they were cute. I had one of the iced cookies and I'm going to give it a 5 out of 5 for appearance and a 3 for taste. There wasn't a lot of flavor. I had one macaron (pistachio). It was excellent! The crust was thin and light and the inside was just chewy enough. The filling was smooth and sweet. YUM! Some of the other pasties looked delicious as well. I think it's a cute place and I would give it another try if in the area which doesn't happen too often! It's certainly worth a stop! read more

How adorable is Sucrose?! Stopped in for a quick dessert with my mom after dinner on Main Street and couldn't be more charmed. Everyone working was extraordinarily friendly, the interior design is perfectly minimal and clean, and the desserts, well...they didn't stand a chance. We both ended up buying extras to sample for tomorrow, though I don't know if the pistachio macaron is going to make it through the night. I'm so glad this is in St. Charles! read more

Amazing bakery on South Fifth Street. My parents followed this bakery from their last space on Campus Drive. The new space is adorable and mush more spacious with a cafe attached. The pastries are still amazing. They have added a coffee bar which was also great. I would have included a photo of the Almond Joy macaroon but I accidentally ate it before taking a photo. We contacted Sucose online as we were hosting a wedding rehearsal dinner. We were from out of town and looking for a place to pick up desserts. We ordered fruit tarts, lemon bars, chocolate brownies (?), a chocolate pie, and apple pies. They were all AWESOME!! The apple pie was an absolute favorite - a fantastic amount of applies, sweet, yet a nice saltyness to the overall flavor. Best pie I've had in ages. The white chocolate lemon bars were excellent and the bite size fruit tarts were great. Flavorful and the right amount of filling to not overpower. This place was very helpful via email. We were actually in the area a few weeks before the event and popped into the shop and picked up samples to taste. They didn't disappoint. The wedding party and guests were VERY complimentary of these treats. Highly recommend. Thanks Sucrose for some great work -- and helping someone from out of town to figure out what to do. I always bake for Thanksgiving. This year, I decided to try out a bakery instead to clear up some time in an already busy day. I'm writing this review the morning of Thanksgiving because I am beyond impressed by the quality of the bakery items at Sucrose. The maple pecan pie is to die for. The crusts of all the pies are delicate and buttery with out being greasy. We also purchased a pumpkin and coconut cream pie which look equally as amazing. This is by far the best bakery in STL and I am extremely picky with baked goods. In addition to the talent of the bakers there, everyone is so friendly. Nothing but smiles on a busy pie pick up day. Going forward, I will be using Sucrose for all holidays, special events, and any time I want delicious sweets. Thank you all for making our Thanksgiving dessert spread the best ever. read more

Coffee tasted very weird. Orange lavender cake tasted like soap, too much lavender. Also, no WiFi on Saturday? Really? Said it was because their parking lot was too small and they wanted to get people to leave. However they didn't seem to care about getting the four screaming toddlers to leave. You could hear them across the entire place. I wore noise-canceling headphones and still couldn't get any work done because they were so loud. If you're going to charge me $9 for a latte and a pastry, the experience better be worth it. This was my first visit and it will be my last. read more

This was my first time visiting Sucrose with my sister accompanying me and well pleased with my visit. Entering the bakery, the smell of baked goods was delightful. Looked around before I actually selected my items and it was organized and clean. I found Sucrose to have a great variety of baked goods. Selected quite a few different pastries and cookies. Came home that evening after my Christmas journeys and had a bite of each item. All I can say I WILL return. All cookies purchased were delicious. The macaroons were to die for...partial to the Almond Joy and the original. Please try the Boca Negra. If you like deep rich chocolate and rum....indulge!!! I could go on and on...talked with my sister the next morning and she is ready for a second visit. To be honest this overwhelming beats out Nathaniel Reid Bakery. Prices were within reason and justified. The staff was helpful explaining the details of any item I had questions about and very polite. First time here. I had their cold brew and shared a fruit tart with my sister. Everything is delicious. The place is spacious and clean from the showcase to the dining area. Walking in, you're greeted immediately with a smile and not rushed to order at all. My cold brew, I only added cream, no need for sugar. Doesn't taste watered down at all. Meh. Yes it is crisp & clean and beautiful looking but the service left much to be desired. I ordered a roulade, quiche Lorraine, and a lemon bar to go saying I was going to eat in the car. My fault for figuring they would heat the quiche for me. (Are they served cold if you dine in? Seriously, are they??). Also ordered a chai latte which came out as basically steamed milk. I asked the girl to add some chai to it since it had NO CHAI FLAVOR and she added a very small bit. I saw and told her I use Pacific Trail at home and could she just pour some in but alas, bo more so basically I probably got a shot worth of chai for $3.50. Bummer. (Just FYI - Pacific Chai is not a syrup so needs to be mixed 1:1 with your milk) Ended up giving it to my daughter who also rejected it saying it had no chai taste. Oh well. The quiche was good but would have been much better warm. The roulade was not what she described but the chocolate ganache (?) On top was yummy. Lemon bar ok. I wont be going back. Stopped by here on my way back to KC on a whim and I'm so glad I did! The atmosphere is awesome, we don't have anything like it at home. The cases were filled with all kinds of pastries, muffins, and breads. Along with a variety of coffee and other drinks. Everything looked to good to eat! And all the employees were really helpful and nice. They even had some locally made goods which I picked up for my family back home.
