I've been here twice recently and haven't been disappointed. Keep in mind that most, and I do mean most, of Sudie's menu is fried. So if you're not a fried food person go somewhere else. They do have options for the fish to be cooked grilled, blackened for fried, so there are options. They also have a good assortment of vegetables and sides. Both times I've gone I've gotten the Tilapia grilled. It's very good. This last time I went I will say that it was under seasoned; however, in their defense it was just after Hurricane Harvey and everything was crazy. Their fried okra is awesome. I get their green beans, but they're not your typical green beans. Snap green beans? Maybe...? I have no complaints whatsoever about Sudies. I live in San Antonio, and Sudies was recommended through Yelp. I can not wait until we go back. The fried green tomatoes, hush puppies, fried shrimp, coconut shrimp, and peach cobbler were phenomenal. It was better than my Grandmother...lol The waiter was so kind and friendly as well. My son wanted seafood (for his birthday celebration), so I thought of Sudie's. The Saturday special was All You Could Eat Shrimp, with two sides, for only $12.99/per person. Well, how could we pass that up? The hush puppies were brought out first and so tasty that it was hard not to fill up on them before ordering the main meal. The service was very friendly, accurate, and and fast. The shrimp choices were fried, coconut, spicy or a mix of each. A variety of sauces were also available. The sides we ordered were broccoli, mashed potatoes with cream gravy, fried okra, and macaroni and cheese. They were easily discernible as "homemade." All the food was fresh and hot. Maryan made sure we left with a "birthday" dessert of blackberry cobbler. Prices are reasonable for all items regardless of daily specials or regular menu items. Only thing holding them back were floppy fries -- across two different entries with fries as a side they were floppy and a bit greasy. Good ol' Sudies. If you have a hankerin' for some fried catfish that is done up right and gratifying, then you've found your place in this truly down home country place that's called Sudies. Sudies touts themselves as THE BEST catfish. I can't say this is an absolute statement, but I can indeed say that this is some seriously good catfish. Outside is that crisp, golden batter that's fried expertly and has that crunch you love. Inside is tender, succulent well cooked catfish. It's very fresh in taste and light in texture. It stands alone or pairs excellently with the cocktail sauce. The sauce is a kicky but still mild concoction that won't overwhelm the seafood. Other fares I've had at Sudies are the hush puppies which they bring to you in what is best described as a huge hush puppy basket. You could happily fill up on these suckers. Crusty outside and soft inside, these little balls of cornbread goodness are a great start. I've also tried the blackened catfish. Wow and wow! I was very pleased with this dish. The blackened seasoning was charred on beautifully. The flavors of the seasonings used were all there but none were overwhelming. It was just a wonderful melding of zesty spices. The Ponchartrain sauce, a buttery creaminess with crab and crawfish mixed in was ambrosial. I love a good sauce and this was one! In the veggie category, the green beans have that Southern touch of bacon. That's not something I'm used to in the green bean cooking category but I found it quite enjoyable in a comforting and tasty way. Other delightful tidbits are the fried shrimp and Cajun seasoned fish. The shrimp are big and juicy and fresh. The Cajun seasoned grilled fish is spicy without incinerating your taste buds with red pepper like some Cajun themed dishes do. This is very well done. The bread pudding is a gargantuan chunk of sweet sensation. I love the caramel-y sauce ladled over it and the warm hint of cinnamon along with the apple bits. The servers are very friendly and efficient. The overall vibe of Sudies is relaxed and not at all pretentious. The patrons seem to be regulars and are also very amiable. It's as if no one is a stranger here. That's something sadly not often found within the city. It's too bad Sudies isn't closer to my area. I really enjoy this place and will come here again when I want a nice, friendly, casual country dining experience. read more

When we finally got seated we sat there for ten minutes before we got any drinks. Luckily the nice waitress apologized. The meal comes with complimentary baskets of hush puppies. They were good. I got a combo, stuffed crab, fried shrimp, fried catfish, and fried crawfish. The shrimp and crab were good, catfish ok... I didn't care for the crawfish, and I love fried crawfish... I think they overcooked them. The baked potato was da bomb, it was loaded with toppings, unlike most places which skimp. So, I'm active on Yelp, Google and any other social media you want to look at my reviews... We called ahead to make sure they were open on New Year's day... Friendly voice assured us that were open. We get there and they have open seating, meaning just sit down and they'll get to you. The server was nice but not knowledgeable about the menu or beer prices. Now, let me digress a bit, my son and I are looking to start a YouTube channel for food and conversation about the food, staff, and anything else we want to talk about... Similar to Seinfeld when they are in the restaurant but we'll be talking about every topic from sports to politics to fashion to cars...and of course the food we eat... We will give it a review... We want to look at a few local places to see where we want to start... I shall proceed... They claim world famous chicken tenders... My son ordered them with mac and cheese... I'll give them 4 stars for the mac and cheese... It's dang good... Not chick fil a good... But, homestyle good...my wife and I split a mean with 5 shrimp, 4 fish and a crab cake... The fried shrimp was Sam's club quality... Zero taste and as bland as cardboard... The crabcake seemed to be frozen or an old oder they heated back up to save a couple of bucks... The the catfish was about as bland and boring like a night with my ex-wife... We paid 23 bucks for a plate that was below Long John Silver quality... But, I did have the mac and cheese... And if I didn't say so yet .. it was good... I asked my boy if I could try the chicken tender because I fancy myself a tender Connoisseur of sort... I didn't even get it torn off before I noticed the pink chicken staring at me like Pink the singer singing a love song to me... We notified the manager, we weren't Karen's about it, and we declined to have a reorder... Finished our drinks and the couple of bites of mac and cheese... It was that good... If you go, just order the mac and cheese and you'll be safe... Then our server brought the check... I am now getting in half Karen fired up... Not only did they try to make my son sick, they were going to charge me to do it... This was a 3/4 Karen mode at this point, but I stayed calm and after waiting for someone to acknowledge my existence for about 15 to 20 minutes, I finally asked the server in a loud voice for the manager... Finally, she came by and offered a discount on a meal my son wasn't able to eat... Dang, if you need the 12 dollars that bad, I can pay for it... Geez... I was in full Karen fuming but stayed calm... She left for a few minutes to get another manager.. she finally reappeared with a new check minus the tender killers... Now, I have been a restaurant manager and my son a sous chef... They were not busy and they struggled with the few people who were there... I cannot recommend a place who will not apologize for their screw up and then blame you for their screw up... At this point enter at your own risk... They has a few good reviews, but they might be from friends And family... Just beware when you enter... I always forget to write a review about Sudies, as often as I come here. I like the very southern homey atmosphere this place has to offer. It's always clean and the staff are always very friendly. Please note that if you are super hungry, I wouldn't recommend coming here, as it takes awhile for the food to come out. Reason being, everything is made to order. The food always comes out fresh. You can choose to have your cat fish battered with either coconut, spicy or just regular. In my opinion the spicy batter gives it a nice kick. The catfish is thinly breaded and the portions here are huge. Fairly reasonably pricing, great service, clean and tasty eats! read more

We were in the area for a high school football game. Catfish sounded good, so we went there. The catfish was very good, hot, fresh, and crispy. Very nice, flaky catfish with a golden cornmeal crust. The waiter tried his best and was very good, but the flaws in the kitchen is why they get a three. The order took forever. Our lettuce salads were warm, the macaroni and cheese side was cold, as were the mashed potatoes. There is no reason for it to take an hour to get food out that is cold when it arrives. The restaurant was also dirty. If all you eat is the catfish, and you have an hour to wait, eat here. read more

Hey Pasadena! There is a hero among us. The Hispanic female, who is managing this fine establishment, not only provides great food and great service but saved a life today. The life she saved was my father, a 70 year old Vietnam Veteran who was having a diabetic episode. She received a phone call that he was in his car and could she check on him. Awesome food great service! The owner Mr. Bailey personally asked me and my date how our food was. He was a delight and the staff was polite, friendly and made us feel right at home. The catfish was fried to perfection and for the dessert I tried the bread pudding and the banana pudding both were outstanding but I believe the bread pudding was the winner out of the two. I thought the food and the experience was just average. I really enjoy hush puppies, and theirs was just kinda bland. I did have some crawl fish, and they were actually pretty good. But the rest of my food was average at best. But my parents come here quite a bit and really enjoy it. The service was polite and very efficient. read more

Had this for lunch today. Ordered the Catfish plate which came with 2 pieces of catfish, fries, hushpuppies (4-5) and coleslaw (which you could sub with their other sides). The dish was a lunch special for 7.99. The catfish was really good. Not the best I've had, but the breading was still good. It thin, but didn't break up upon eating. It was still crispy and the fish was a good portion. As for the sides, they seemed pretty typical. Nothing too out of the ordinary. Hushpuppies were bland though... I'm used to HPs with some more spice to it. However, I'd go back because I think the portions were pretty well worth it. read more

Overall it was okay. I went with a couple of friends after playing some golf. Parking was no issue as well as getting a seat, pretty quick no wait. We arrive about 1 on a Friday. I had the catfish since it was supposed to very good. I ordered crawfish etofee but was served shrimp etoufee and it was horrible. The catfish was pretty good lightly battered and light flavor. My buddies said they enjoyed their meals. Both ordered a combo catfish/crawfish and side order lunch special. The service was not bad nothing to write home about. The atmosphere was not bad again nothing to write home about. Overall not a bad visit but nothing to write home about. For three of us the bill was $50, we all had plenty to eat they did not have any leftovers but I left the etoufee on the table it looked and taste like it came from a can. Sudies used to be a good place, Back in the day. I Went their last fall And received very Poor service. The waitresses were dragging their feet, And they treated us like 2nd class citizens. They seldom Came around to the table to see if we needed anything. I wouldn't take my dog to Go eat there. I Think the waitress was on the rag. Or she might have been shorted on her Check. But she had a very uncomfortable Look on her face. If she had a week or whatever the problem was, It really shouldn't affect the customers. I have spread word not to go into that Place, Due to the poor service and the over battered seafood. Between them and long John silver's , I believe next time I will take LJS. Sudies is a great place for catfish and shrimp. The blackened catfish was well seasoned and tasted terrific. The standard menu is fried catfish and shrimp, but you can ask for grilled or blackened and they do a great job of preparing it. The fish is fresh, flaky and nicely done. The boudin balls are some of the best in the region. That was an appetizer well worth ordering. Rather than the standard "french fries" with your seafood (which most restaurants offer), Sudie's has two sides or one premium side. You CAN order fries, but I prefer their homemade real onion rings or okra. I had their broccoli, which was freshly steamed and had a snap to it. It wasn't typical steam-table broccoli, or just reheated frozen food... but fresh vegetables. You can't do much better. The prices are low for the good quality food. The restaurant is layed back, relaxed and the waitstaff was attentive and friendly. Overall, this is a nice place to try. If you want a go-to place for friends to gather... Sudie's is it. read more

Went in and the food was good only problem was I asked for pico on the side because I can't have spicy foods, and they didn't do it and then the waitress argued that I said jalapenos on the side.
