This place is so good! My girlfriend brought me here on a Saturday evening around 7 pm. Luckily there were a couple tables available when we arrived but 15-20 minutes later the place was packed with multiple parties waiting outside to be seated. Very popular place. We ordered the Kao Soy soup ($10 - flat noodles, ground pork, and meatballs in chicken broth) and Kao Poon soup ($10 - vermicelli noodles and chicken breast in coconut milk). Both were so delicious and fresh - and huge portion sizes (two people can really share one). The broth was homemade and bursting with flavor. The noodles had a good consistently and there was a decent amount of meat in both dishes. Pay close attention to the menu as the items marked with an asterisk are deemed "spicy." The two soup dishes we ordered were labeled spicy, and for someone like me with zero-tolerance for spice, the spice was a bit too strong for me. Despite that I still really enjoyed the flavors. Service overall could have been more attentive (we had to ask for napkins and I definitely needed a quicker water-refill to help cope with the spice), but nothing egregious. If you're looking for a true hole-in-the-wall - quality authentic food for really affordable prices - Sue's Kitchen will do the trick! read more

I came back with my friend today after years of taking a break. I think the owner greeted us. He was very friendly. We got there right before 11AM and we were the first people there. Ten minutes later, the place started filling up fast. My friend ordered their combo pho and iced tea. She said her pho had no flavor. I ordered the vegetarian Pad See Eew (forgot to take a picture) which has fried tofu, broccoli, and eggs with wide rice noodles. The noodles were very nice and chewy but the sweet soy sauce was too sweet. I added two dollars for extra broccoli which I enjoyed but that brought my tofu and broccoli noodles to 16 dollars and total price of 20 dollars for lunch. Pretty steep for tofu and veggies. For these prices, I would go down to Albany to Shangrila Buddha and get their large lunch set with soup for 17.95 with unlimited tea. However, our favorite noodle place, Pho Craze, is closed on Tuesdays so this was our back up restaurant. Their curry with rice looked pretty good but the veggies looked overcooked. read more

Ordered three items for take out . 1. Fried chicken over fried rice . The fried rice was very flavorful and good but the chicken wasn't as crunchy and they only give you 4 wings 2.Kao Piak - chicken broth was very good with the fresh noodles definitely can tell the broth was made for a few hours with cilantro , green onions, and fried shallot 3. Pad Kapow- choice of meat was beef and it was stir fried with basil leaves and mixed vegetables . I was surprised the Pad Kapow was not served with minced Beef as It was served with slices of beef that was quite dry . Overall the flavor was great but different meat selection maybe better paired . Decent Lao / Thai restaurant but no dishes really stood out but will return to try other dishes ! read more

This is the best Thai/Lao restaurant in the North Bay. It is family-run restaurant and not a fancy place but the food is consistently good. It is frequented mainly by locals, and I am so glad that they survived through the pandemic. We went back recently to enjoy their Kao Soy noodles and their larb chicken, two outstanding dishes there. The portions are generous so certainly a family will be appeased. Sometimes if you are lucky they will have hand made desserts like pandan cake during the weekends. read more

me and mom used to come here all the time and my grandma actually knew the previous owner. their food was so good it was hard to stay away considering how close they were from us. we would go in mommy daughter dates here all the time. i used to order the fried rice, wings, kapiek, and the papaya salad and more! after the new owner took over my mom stopped going because it wasn't the same and i moved out so i never ended up trying it out since the new owners took over. me and my boyfriend went in after church because it was close by and i was craving kapiek so we stopped by to eat here. my boyfriend ordered the pad thai and i ordered the kapiek and wings as an appetizer. when we received the food we got our main dishes first. he took one bite and didn't even want to chew it let alone swallow it. he shook his head at me and asked me to try it so i did. i took a bite and i was at lost of words. the meat tasted old.. the flavors were sour. he didn't want to return the dish and i refused to allow him to eat it if he doesn't like it. i kindly asked the waitress if we can order something else because he didn't like it. she stood there and looked at him asking "you don't like pad thai?" i was shocked by her response... he responds "i do.." he was at lost of words himself. i said "he just doesn't like it" she takes the dish and he asks for fried rice because how bad can the friend rice be. apparently it wasn't all that either. while we were eating we were being watched the ENTIRE TIME. it was hard not to notice being stared at while eating. when i received my kapiek the bowl was HUGE and their was so much noodles i couldn't even finish it. the broth was bland and their noodles weren't like how it should be. i tried adding condiments to it to add flavor but unfortunately i couldn't get it to my liking. the bill came out to around $85-$90. moral of the story, we sucked it up and paid it but unfortunately we will NOT be back. read more

Found out about this place watching Check Please. Call them on day of ask about getting reservation table for two very friendly welcoming on phone. Everything was very good as it should be with some help of our waitress she told us differences between what dishes how it's prepared and served to table. Have you ever enjoyed a place so much that you wanted to return right away to try their other dishes? That's what we did just a couple of days ago. Funny thing is that this was our back-up plan. We ended up walking out on the first place that we went too because we were completely ignored. Good thing this place was close by and we were rushing to get here as it was around 8PM and they close at 9PM. We could tell this place is popular as there were still a lot of patrons waiting for a table and lots or take-out orders being picked-up at that time. Once we got seated, we ordered the Combo Platter (Fried Tofu, Chicken Satay and Egg Roll), Tom Yum Goong, Nam Kao and Fried Chicken over Fried Rice. The Combo Platter was a nice trio for starters and the soup was on point, but it was also on the sweet side which was odd and unique. I love that it had plenty of shrimp The Nam Kao was fresh, herbal, delicious, playful and fun. As for the Fried Chicken, it looked appetizing but it wasn't their best. However, the Fried Rice was tasty and we were really enjoying the dishes and got excited just reading and seeing the other dishes being delivered at other tables. We definitely wanted to return to try the rest of their menu and we ended up here the following night on a Friday evening. This time, we knew exactly what to get and ordered Somtum-Gai Yang (Papaya Salad and BBQ Chicken) from their specials menu; plus we got the Kao Soy and Moo Young. We were eyeing these last two dishes the previous night and they did not disappoint. The Kao Soy has everything in it and loved loved the spiciness to it, but there's always a hint of sweetness. But I was blown away from the meatball. This thing just looked plain, but after tasting it with just one bite I had fireworks full of flavor in my mouth. I asked what type of meatball it was and they said it has tendon in it. Whatever else was in it, I wanted to buy a whole bunch. As for the Moo Young, I decided to add an egg on top and wish it was more runny. But the pork was tender, tasty and terrific. Mixed together with the rice and it was a happy smorgasbord. And we didn't go wrong with the Papaya Salad and BBQ Chicken specials menu. The salad was tangy, spicy, sweet, crispy, fresh and delightful. The BBQ Chicken was superb with all types of wonderful spices added to it. There will definitely be a third, fourth and even more visits as we are aiming to eat their whole menu. A friend of mines recently moved to Rodeo so came out here to have lunch! Sue's is located on a hill with other businesses. There's a small parking lot which smelled strongly of fish sauce lol. We were a party of 4 and ordered a beef salad, ka poon, ka soy, chicken pad thai & beef pad kee mao. Originally wanted ka piak but they were out. Thought the pad thai was good but the noodle soup flavors were too salty. Service was pretty crappy, no one refilled our waters or checked in on us. Probably won't be coming back. read more

I have been coming here for years now and when I heard they had reopened dine in service I had to make my way in. I've been back 4x since they've reopened and the food hadn't disappointed til this recently visit. I order kao soy but asked for a noodle substitution and they forgot so they had to take it back in to fix it. They didn't make me a new bowl but instead just switched the noodles out with the new noodles. By then my bowl was no longer hot and now cold. I didn't want to have to wait any longer so I just ate it but wasn't satisfying at all. We also ordered lat nah and it was really just very sorry looking. Ahhhh the veggies!! I'm a mostly vegetarian and I really enjoyed their vegetarian options. The vegetables were fresh. I felt the snap of freshly cooked green beans and the aromatic gifts of freshly sautéed basil. The green papaya salad is what got me in the door after my colleague brought some in to work to share. It's fresh, crisp, spicy! So good. Eat here. Do it. The ambiance is relaxed. Casual. It accommodates small groups and people on dates. The severs were attentive and friendly. I'm definitely coming back. Came here because the reviews looked promising. Although it's a bit difficult to find this place it's definitely worth it. They give mounds of food that can be eaten for days. My favorite pick of here is their Khao Soy and their Nam Khao. Their Khao soy is the Lao version. Its a broth with tomato, fermented beans and minced pork topping. Thai version has coconut milk. It's super savory with some heat and really warms the soul. The Nam Khao is delicious because the rice has great flavor and super crispy. I love that they put big chunks of fermented pork in the dish. All with plenty of herbs and lettuce to go along with it. read more

Whenever I am back in the bay I try to arrange a visit to Sues. They are open for take out for delivery which is awesome and I felt like none of the quality of the food was lost. We ordered the nam kao of course which is a must try , the crispy sour pork in it is amazing. We also ordered noodles and Thai tea and it was excellent as always. Definitely recommend trying some of the specials. Parking: there is a lot and never have had issues but not particularly large although with Covid it doesn't matter. People coming in and out to pick up orders flowed. The Yelp reviews are what made me come here. The combo appetizer was disappointing. The egg rolls and peanut sauce are not as good as in other restaurants. The chicken satay was pretty dry and fried tofu anywhere is not really that exciting. The drunken noodles was pretty much average, nothing to rave about. I liked best was the seafood curry with salmon and shrimps though it's just the usual. It came in a plastic bag. I am wondering why a pretty busy restaurant cannot have proper packaging. Too bad I forgot to take a picture. Shall I come back? Ah, Sue's kitchen, very nice place. Great food and great service. Once we came here a while back and got hooked, now we come back when we can and are in the mood for some thai. The BBQ chicken is great. The food is fresh. One thing I like about this place over some of the others around is they give you a full serving. There's another one that you pay a LOT for and still are hungry after and that's not acceptable. This place is great. I love Sue's kitchen! Back in the day it was called Bamboo Chopstick. I loved it then and now, I still love it! I love their exquisite Kao- Soy and Nam Kao. Their papaya salad is also yummy. The search for authentic Lao papaya salad is what first brought me to Sue's Kitchen. I have been eating papaya salad for over 30 years bought from the same Lao lady, The Papaya Lady (delicious and authentic) in the Central Valley. Sue's version certainly didn't disappoint and satisfied my craving for home papaya salad. It tastes yummy and the ingredients are super fresh. I have also eaten their curries, stir fries, appetizers, and noodles. All of it is just as delicious and like the papaya salad, all the ingredients are fresh and high quality. The portions are generous too and enough for family style with the right number of entrees ordered.
