I had this place bookmarked for a while and we were in the mood for beef noodle soup today. When we walked in, I saw another customer eating it and it looked so good that I decided that I wanted my own bowl. My husband ordered half and half (tendon and beef) and I ordered just beef. The first bite made his eyes water and nose run, but I was prepared and it didn't affect me. The beef was tender and the noodles plentiful. We couldn't believe each bowl was only $6.60. I also ordered won tons with chili oil after seeing pictures on Yelp. Those were good too. All of the customers were Chinese, which was a good sign that the place was going to be legit. There was also a glass case with cold dishes. We didn't get anything from there because we already had enough food. Parking spaces were pretty tight in this strip mall right off Crenshaw Blvd. We didn't have any issues with service, unlike some of the other reviewers. My surrogate brother introduced this hole-in-the-wall because of my love for 紅燒牛肉麵 (beef stew noodle soup), & I always enjoy this classic noodle no matter the time of the year; it's also great when I'm recovering from a loss of appetite. The restaurant is located in a small strip plaza just north of Torrance Crossroads. Parking is limited & tight, & goes in 1 direction. The dining room is cramp, providing seating for 14? I rarely eat at the restaurant nowadays because I feel rushed to get done, especially during lunch/dinner rush so I'm unable to enjoy my meal at a leisurely pace. For its size, the menu is quite vast & our family probably had eaten through 1/2 of it over the years, skipping through some in preference of our favorites, & it's a long list. SAUTÉED A CHOY VEGETABLES (炒A菜) is unique to the Taiwanese; it's aka Taiwan lettuce, AA Chop Xin, stem lettuce, asparagus lettuce, celery lettuce, celtuce, wosun. Its stalks reminds me of cucumbers, leaves like romaine, & remains crisp after a quick sauté. Their HOT BRAISED STEW BEEF NOODLE SOUP (紅燒牛肉麵) has an unctuous soup, spicy yet tender beef, & consistent al dente thin noodles. =D The ever-popular WONTON IN HOT CHILI OIL (紅油炒手) is a fav if me & my husband, but sometimes the filing is a bit skimpy so it tastes mostly of wonton skin. :-| I had my 1st CHINESE BURRITO (牛肉捲餅) in SGV, & Sue's version isn't one to be missed; it's essentially the onion pancake without the onions, & stuffed with seasoned beef. =) My kiddos love the ONION PANCAKE (蔥油餅) & has been burned on occasion for their enthusiasm, they have since learned to wait for it to cool down; their other fav is Pork Fried Rice (肉絲炒飯). CASH ONLY! Sue's Kitchen is one of the very few places in the South Bay that you can get a decent Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup. Along with that, they have lots of Taiwanese/Chinese dishes that are very recognizable to its audience. I've been coming here with my parents for years when I grew up in the South Bay. After moving away and coming back, this place remains the same and there's just something homey about that. Mental note (to self): Do not order to far ahead of time because your food will be waiting in styrofoam boxes for a long time and the food will then congeal to the shape of the box and now you've got a mega goop of a wonton that's hard to eat. Not their fault, just something to note lol. They move fast! So tell them what time you will pick up the order because they will make it for that time frame. I was actually expecting haste and curt service and interactions but was surprised by the friendliness and efficiency. My recent take out order (barring my ill timing) was smooth as can be! I ordered the onion pan pancakes (AKA scallion pancakes), chili oil wontons, and dan dan noodles. The whole order cost me around $15 which is pretty reasonable for the amount of food I got! The pancakes were thicker than I was used to. The texture was chewy but pleasant. Not my favorite but not bad either. The wontons had a bit too much wonton wrap and not enough meat filling for me but I liked the flavor and combination of the chili oil. The dan dan noodles were kind of a disappointment because they weren't really traditional dan dan. They were more like chili oil noodles with a little minced meat. It wasn't saucy enough for the typical dan dan. It was a hefty portion, I definitely appreciate the price to portion. But I had to add my own oils and sauces to make it closer to dan dan style. It's been a while since I've had the beef noodle soup so I'll definitely be back for that and other menu items so I can update my review. But overall a-okay. Just not as traditional as I thought. Really enjoyed their soup dumplings, Chinese beef "burrito", the steamed sole filet of fish, and the green onion pancake. Also ordered the wontons in spicy chili sauce and fried rice noodles with pork. The food is tasty though slightly under-salted, which I'd take over being too salty. The prices are extremely reasonable and makes this an awesome deal! The Chinese beef burrito was super tasty--tender beef and plenty of fresh crisp cilantro wrapped in a green onion Chinese pancake. The soup dumplings were right on par--they come in 4s--although the skins break easily because they're tightly packed together when they're steamed. Beware and don't lose the soup! The main issue I had was with the chili sauce used in the spicy wontons. The wontons themselves were tasty and meaty, but whatever sauce they used literally leaves your tongue numb--lidocaine comes to mind, and there is a strange almost perfumy aftertaste. The moment I stepped into this small mom-and-pop restaurant, I was a bit confused and didn't know whether I should grab a table first or order at the cashier counter first. In addition, the cashier didn't have a great attitude and the overall service felt somewhat chaotic (I tried to order an appetizer listed on the menu and ultimately I cancelled my order because he simply didn't pay attentions to my orders). [Ordering logistics] - Walk in, order at the counter, find a place to sit, and 1) pick up your food at the counter OR 2) waiter / waitress will bring food to your table (you're just going to observe and react accordingly). After I grabbed a table, the staff served a cup of complimentary hot tea and eventually I picked up my food at the cashier counter (condiment is located at the cashier counter too). No public restroom and chili oil will cost extra $0.25. *** #1 Beef Noodle Soup (personally requested for half meat and half tendon, $6.60): Broth was floating with a layer of chili oil (the source of spiciness). Wow, it's been a few years since I was last here. Had the Beef tendon soup with the glass noodles. Wasn't in the mood for flour based noodles. Yum! The chicken fried rice was decent. This is as authentic Chinese Taiwanese as it gets. You won't find Kung Pao or Orange chicken here. I didn't have room for the 3 side dishes because soup just seemed like a better choice on a chilly rainy day. But I always appreciate the Chinese burrito. Super good on the go. Service is gruff mainly due to a language/cultural barrier but no big deal. We sat down and the guy served our water and brought the menus promptly. No frills. I've heard great things about the Spicy Beef Noodles at Sue's Kitchen so I decided to trek down to the South Bay to see what all the hype was about... Located at a strip mall, Sue's is TINY! It's also extremely warm in there. I was sweating like a pig, Oink! Get there before 6:30pm (weekday) to avoid a wait. Parking is a pain. They offer to-go orders as well. Many of the patrons phone-in their orders and pick it up. Ordered: *3-Item Appetizer Plate: 1) Seaweed, 2) Veggies and 3) Beef Slice. I enjoyed all three. Their spicy peanuts are good and very popular, highly recommended! *Spicy Beef Noodles: Overrated! The meat was tender, noodles were chewy but the soup was kind of bland. Tip: you can ask for all beef or half beef, half tendon. The noodles don't include pickled vegetables. You'll have to order it on the side. *Green Onion Pancake: Meh, it was too doughy. I've had better from the grocery store's frozen aisle... *Xiao Long Bao: SKIP! The skin was too thick and it wasn't juicy. There's four XLB served in a metal dim sum steamer. Their dining room is not large by any stretch of the imagination, and cute, rather, with about ten tables. It's clean, too; no idea why this restaurant's health score was a "B". For the curious, just about everyone inside spoke Chinese. I had my friend ask our lady server in Chinese whether she was Sue or whether Sue was in. Her reply was that there was no Sue, and that's the name of the place is just that, a name. Their cooking is fantastic. We gorged on seven dishes family-style, which ended up being insanely cheap. Between five of us, the final cost was $10 (including tax and tip) a person. Of the dishes, we had a few noodle soups, an outstanding, tender pork dish ($5.50), and a peppery tofu dish. Every dish had its own personality, yet they all were pleasant. Since my friends ordered for the table, I have no clue what we specifically had - I was just munching on semi-spicy peanuts anyway. This place is the bomb for hot braised stew beef and tendon noodle soup. Only $6.60 for a big bowl of authentic Taiwanese cuisine! You can get it lightly spiced (my preference) or really spicy, if you like that sort of thing. Very generous portions, and you'll definitely not leave this place hungry. The beef are huge chunks that are quite lean without much fat, and the tendons are melt-in-your-mouth tender and soft like butter. Oo la la! The location isn't fancy because it's basically just a hole-in-the-wall in a tiny strip mall, but you come here for the food, not the ambiance. There are several varieties of side dishes up front that you can choose from to supplement your meal. I haven't tried all of them yet, but the tofu skin and pickled cucumbers are pretty good. read more

After I sat down, the two workers asked me to move to a 2-person table that is located behind the counter, and almost in the kitchen. Yes, I understand that I was dining alone, but there would've been two other tables if I stayed at the original table. When I first walked in, this 2-person table was "occupied" with the employee's belongings. When they moved me to this table, they removed two items, and left one item on the chair. If that couple didn't show up to eat in as well he'd probably only want us to do take out. He was probably tired and bored and wanted to go home as it was the last day of the work week for the restaurant but there was still 1hr left! Eventhough we ordered first the guy put down plates/bowls/utensils/water to the other customers first. A normal self-respecting and well fed person would have left but it was 8pm and not much was open on Chirstmas Eve and the food was supposed to be good so... We plowed through and ordered the #1 Spicy Beef noodle soup $6.60, #45 Beef Burrito $5.45, #50 Pork & Leek Dumplings $6.60. The Beef Burrito (Beef Roll) is smaller than we were used to but given the price it was okay. The roll is thicker than we'd like but it still satisfied me. Other places have a huge roll for $10 and loaded with stuff but hard to eat. Their signature Spicy Beef noodle soup was very good. Noodles were chewy and broth was oily and flavorful but extremely spicy. It burned my throat. The beef was really tender and very good. You can't drink the broth by itself unless you really like spicy things. The 14 dumplings were good were of good size but this is a northern Chinese cuisine restaurant so the wrap was thick which would normally make the filling taste more bland. I dipped it in the spicy oily beef broth of our soup and it was pretty awesome. The dining area looked well kept. The kitchen looks a little dirty but they have a health rating of "A". I came here for lunch with my mom one day because we had heard from her co-worker that this place is famous for their beef noodle soup. This particular day was dreary and cold and so hot soup sounded like the perfect choice for a meal. We came relatively early (around 11:30) and so the parking wasn't too crowded. When we walked in there was only one family present and so we were seated right away. It didn't take long though for the place to crowd up. The place is tiny and so it filled up really quickly. When we came, the lady in charge handed us some tea in a small Styrofoam cup and handed us the menus. We ordered the beef noodle soup (the non-spicy version) and the Chinese burrito (I had made sure to go on yelp before coming here to see what others were ordering and I saw that the Chinese burrito was one of the items people ordered). The lady who took the orders did not speak much English and at first spoke to us in Chinese. My only gripe would be that it took a bit to get our order. The cook cooked it pretty fast but the waitress was busy arranging newspapers and cleaning and so she didn't notice right away. That's OK though...when the food finally came it was worth the wait. Sue's kitchen boasts some pretty good chinese/taiwanese food this side of the 405. The beef noodle soup is pretty good, and it's a good price as well. The ma-jiang noodles is also bomb. It's a really simple dish, pretty much sesame paste, garlic and other delicious flavorings, noodles, and some cucumber on top. But something about this dish just reminds me of Taiwan and it's simple, but delicious. The cold plate trio is also pretty good. You get to pick 3 of the cold dish items in the a-la cart area. The pig ears are good, the beef tongue is good, the cucumbers are super garlic-y delicious, the seaweed is also spot on. If you had to pick one item, I'd go with anything with noodles. Torrance Food Crawl #212 For years I had driven by here and thought it was just a hole-in-the-wall American diner. The first time I came here I was surprised to find out it was a Chinese restaurant. I went with the first listed item on the menu, the Hot Braised Stew Beef Noodle Soup. There were 5-6 big chunks of beef, a little on the fatty side, but easy to eat except for one piece that was much tougher than the others. The noodle base was average. This was listed as one of their spicy dishes and it is of average spiciness to my tastes, not so spicy that you question eating it but a spice level where you can appreciated it and still eat without difficulty. There is a slight oily film on the broth surface from what I assume is chili oil, but not bad, just noticeable. The broth is good. Overall a good spicy soup. I also tried a cold dish, the Shredded Bean Sprout with Sweet and Sour Garlic Sauce. I was expecting something something that looked like soybean sprouts but the dish looked more like a seaweed salad. Whatever it was, it was just average in taste. The restaurant is on the small side, with only nine tables inside. It appears they do a healthy business on take out orders so that would put less pressure on seating. Service was average. Beef roll (chinese burrito): I have never had such dry beef rolls ever. Beef rolls are so easy and pretty consistent everywhere. I finally understood the reviews about the dry beef rolls. Spicy Beef Noodle Soup: This was just spicy oil water. There was zero flavor. This was the most disappointing thing we ordered. Beef noodle soup should be hearty and flavorful. Save your money. Dan Dan Noodles: Zero flavor. The great thing was the chunks of meat but other than that, there wasn't even enough sauce for the noodles. Half of the noodles weren't even touched because of this. It's extremely disappointing how little flavor there is. You can definitely tell that they do not put care and thought into their food or their service. When we were paying, the man was extremely rude in throwing the change. I understand social distancing but there was no "thank you" or "welcome" or anything. Instead, an old man sat in the corner and yelled into the kitchen. No one was wearing masks when handling food. They wore masks when people entered to pick up their food. You can see how little effort they want to put into their food, health of customers, service, etc. I would not recommend this place at all. I love the food but the service is horrible. I had to go to the counter for water twice, as well as my to go bag and containers. The other customers that were of the same nationality received wonderful service. They brought their drinks immediately and the to go containers right after they began eating. I left my leather jacket hanging on the chair next to me, so I called. They acted as if I had the wrong number and could understand no English. Hopefully it's still there as the place is so small there's no way they didn't see it right after I left. I won't ever go back there again. Pretty unfortunate.... read more

Pros: authentic Chinese food at reasonable price! They are hope in the wall kind of small restaurant with 4 or 5 dine-in tables inside. I usually order take out. I love their pork chop rice! Cons: terrible customer service. But it is typical for Chinese restaurant, and honestly to me, it's kind of proof that their food it authentic! Haha read more

I have ordered a combination of cold dishes on their menu. The price listed on their menu is #50 @$6.90 for 1 meat and 2 vegetables. They charged me $8, i.e. 16% on tax. They said the tax is correctly charged! I went into their bathroom through the kitchen. It is disgusting to see the hygienic condition of the kitchen. All staff do not speak English and are very rude. read more

The flavor of the noodles are good, but the portions are small. I guess you can't complain since they claim they never raised the prices in the past few years If you need a place for noodles, and there's no wait, I'd suggest eat here. Its a tiny place and parking can be a pain. read more

I really wants to love this place, it always have good soup and noodle, I shouldn't go back when I found it taste weird for the first time, but because it's been on of my favorite store, I want to give another chance. It's extremely disappointing. I ordered fry rice and beef noodle soup and when I got home open the box， The rice looks like it's been chilled in the refrigerator for many days, and then they use a lot of disgusting old oil to Stir-fry the old rice with (there are a lot of black ash on the rice grains due to excessive reuse of oil), the smell is a bit stinky. Beef soup is even more terrible. a lot of oil is used to cover the taste of the soup. The first scoop of spoon was only oil and the entire cup fill with and inch or two of oil. I suspect I bought oil soup and it smell bad also !! I dare not even eat it and pour them all, It's a waste of money! read more

Sue's Kitchen is one of my favorite places for good home style Chinese food. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy...only about 10 tables, but it never seems crowded because I think a lot of folks order to go. 5 stars for the food. I would almost give 5 stars for the service, because the grouchy slow servers are part of the charm...you have to ask for everything, bowls (I think they only have a total of two so good luck getting any more than that) spoons, plates, refills on tea. Best chance of getting served is to just walk up to the counter and point. Then watch as they scream your order at the kitchen staff. My favorites are both the fried fish w/rice and the steamed fish (we'll switch every time we go), the spicy beef noodle soup, and the Chinese burrito (never seen it on a menu before, but it is super tasty...kind of like a fat green onion pancake with meat and hoisin sauce. read more

I'm SO ecstatic that I found this place!! Their food was delicious. My boyfriend and I tried a variety of dishes and each one had their own unique positives. For the spicy beef/tendon noodles, the noodles were well seasoned and chewy--loved that it wasn't over cooked!! Even though I wished the broth was a bit more thick or flavored, the dense seasoning in the noodles made up for it. The beef in the soup was tender and well marinated. The tendons were also the perfect blend of chewy and mushy. I was able to chew the tendons a few times before it melted in my mouth. I LOVED the beef burrito. The outer covering (what we would usually call the tortilla) was chewy, almost had a slight rice cakey kind of texture, which I absolutely love. Though I don't like cilantro, it worked well inside the burrito. Just to make it taste a bit more delicious, I suggest you take a bite of the burrito and take sips of the spicy beef noodle soup to get an extra kick! Although some people might comment on the rude customer service, I would not give them a worse rating because of it. People come from all kinds of cultures and backgrounds, so what's rude in one culture might not necessarily be rude in another. From the way I see it, people all have different ways of interacting and varying cultural conducts. The workers here aren't good at English and maybe they may be silent at times, but they use their smiles to communicate. Everything on the menu is pretty cheap, too.. would definitely come here again. read more

Really good food, not so good service. Go to: beef noodle soup with tendon. Onion pancake and pig ears are good, too. What really irks me is that we saw two people pay with card before us, then when I tried to pay with card-- he said sorry, cash only. I see a card machine on the counter and I see a VISA/MC sign outside and it bears repeating-- LITERALLY THE TWO PEOPLE IN FRONT OF US PAID WITH CARD.... wtf? read more
