Well, I had high hopes given the reviews. I believe that the food is technically very good, but some of the prep details weren't so good. Starting with a positive. The crab Rangoon was some of the best I've ever had! Excellent! The menu was also very impressive! The service was average - nothing super, nothing horrible. The server seemed like a nice lady. My entree was the kang hung lay. Not that great. The meat and the vegetables were both tender and flavorful. The most notable problem, though, was the eight or 10 small shards of something very hard in the meat. I don't know if it was cartilage or something else, but I don't believe it should've been there. The vegetables and the pineapple that were in the dish were overcooked and mushy. Overall, the entrée selection was a little disappointing. All in all, the meal was OK. The atmosphere is very, very loud. If I were to return, I'd probably stick with something a little more mainstream like the pad Thai.

The pad Thai was really good and a huge portion. A lot of chicken and soy beans for that fresh crunch. Lots of crushed peanut included in the dish and a lemon wedge. As for the chicken yellow curry it was awesome as well. Large portion with big potato pieces. The perfect curry flavor. Rice was extra at 2 dollars. Service was quick but hard to park. Ambiance was amazing, friendly and excellent drinks as well.

Sugar & Spice is hands down the best Thai spot in the Boston area. The menu is packed with unique dishes you don't see at most Thai restaurants, which makes every visit exciting. The Khao Soi Moo Krob was incredible--crispy pork belly in a rich, flavorful curry noodle soup that I'd definitely recommend. If you love Thai food and want something a little different from the usual, this place is a must-try. While everything here is amazing, definitely try something outside of the typical pad thai or drunken noodles. Promise you won't be disappointed.

Sugar & Spice might be my new favorite restaurant in Cambridge. They were super busy tonight with both takeout and dine in orders, but everything still felt organized. Although I don't have pictures of all the dishes, the presentation was on point. I tried the sakoo sai gai, which had a mochi like texture and was filled with seasoned chicken bits, peanuts, and fried garlic. The menu was a little intimidating since there's so much to choose from, so I went with the classic pineapple fried rice to play it safe. Everything about the dish was perfect. The pineapple was super sweet and juicy. The rice had that nice wok flavor, slightly smoky and aromatic. I could see each individual grain, which is how I knew it was good fried rice. The curry powder added savoriness and subtle spice that balanced the sweetness of the pineapple.

Sugar & Spice seemed promising, but the experience was average. The flowers they use to decorate their plates seem to be compensating for the dish components that fall short. For example, the summer rolls were tasty, but the sauce they served them with was very runny and sour. A more traditional peanut sauce would've been better. Also the Thai Tea was oddly thick? And no matter how much we mixed it, we couldn't get past the strange texture. I did enjoy the Pad Thai, but one would certainly hope a Thai restaurant would do a decent job with a staple dish like this. They did skimp on the shrimp pieces (which is disappointing since you pay for the protein separately). The service was fine. Overall, their food is mid and you can find better elsewhere.

Very charming outside. Love the flower decorations. Unfortunately the outdoor seating was all booked so we had to sit inside. Definitely a different vibe. Better to sit outside. We went for lunch, since the place was busy so decided to give it a try. The menu is a bit convoluted, some menu on paper but full menu can be seen on yr phone. So better to ask the server for recommendations. I hate looking at a menu on my phone. We had a curry dish, pad tai n another noodle dish. All recommendations by the server. They were all good.

Came here on a Sunday night around 7pm and was pleasantly surprised to be seated almost immediately. The service was super quick and efficient. We tried a good mix of vegetarian dishes, and I was impressed by how many veg/vegan options were available on the menu. Vegetable Spring Rolls - These were just okay. Crisp and fresh, but nothing particularly memorable. Veggie Dumplings - delicious. Perfectly cooked and packed with flavor - 2 in each tray. Coconut Curry Soup - My first time trying this, and it was such a comforting bowl--sweet, tangy, and very satisfying. Pad Me Korat - Beautifully plated and flavorful. Not my personal favorite flavor profile, but still a solid dish. Mango Sticky Rice - A classic. Tasty, though I do wish there was more coconut cream on top (but that's a common gripe I have with most sticky rice desserts). Portions were generous, the space was buzzing but not chaotic, and overall, it was a solid, satisfying meal. I'd say it's more of a 3.75, but rounding up for the fast service and solid veggie options. Would definitely come back to explore more of the menu!

Very good Thai food/ we ate outdoors on a warm day but the food and ambiance were nice. Had 6 dishes- all nicely presented and tasty. Most had pad tai with chicken or pork - very tasty, reasonably priced. Street parking (if you can find it).

Cute spot down in porter square a block from the Porter Shopping Center. It's got booths and ample seating for dinner. The outside is definitely dated (older building) but inside is clean with AC! Service was quick and expedient, with a pleasant vibe! We ordered the following: + Crispy Chicken Basil - now this is a bit different than a lot of other places. Perhaps a different region of Thailand it's got the more tangy spicy flavor profile (fish sauce base) however this one was more of a sweet chili flavor profile. The chicken is sliced thin and was crispy. Portion was heavy so good for lunch the next day. I do prefer the spicer style basil sauce though. + Kow Soi Moo Krob The lady grabbed this to try as she typically likes Kow soi a lot. Broth had good flavor, tons of depth, creamy and generous portion size as well! Shareable! + Spicy Chicken Wings Crispy, moist and tossed in a sweet chili not so much spicy wings. The sauce was like the crispy chicken basil. + Crab rangoons I enjoyed these as well as their wrap was a style i prefer. Good crunch, nice chew and the filling had imitation crab meat, onions and cream cheese. + Thai Milk Tea Large - earthy Thai tea flavor, nice balance of sweetness and creaminess. Overall liked the space and service. I would have def preferred the southern Thai basil sauce more. Least what I'm told is more southern spicy style.

The restaurant was packed and lively when my friends and I arrived. The service was friendly, but the food took a while to arrive. I thought the food was pretty mid. I thought the scallion pancakes were soggy and tasted like they were cooked from frozen. The meat was also difficult to chew. It's an okay option if you need a last minute place to grab dinner with your friends. Next time, I'd probably just order a plate of pad thai or pad see ew.

Located in the heart of Porter Square, Sugar & Spice is a beloved Somerville staple! Their menu displays an array of Thai dishes, all clearly labeled by region, and most of which have a vegan alternative!! Whenever I have friends visit, Sugar & Spice is always a stop on the itinerary. I must have tried about half the items on the vegan menu by now and have yet to be disappointed. Some favorites include the Vegan Kow Yum, Kow Soi, and Pad Mee Korat. And of course, the mango sticky rice is a must :D The service is always quick and the staff are super kind and attentive to table needs. Whether you're here for a casual lunch or dinner with friends, the big windows looking out onto the bright Somerville streets create a lovely atmosphere to enjoy your meal. Located right off the Porter T stop, and conveniently near the Porter Square shopping center with a large parking area, make sure you stop by Sugar & Spice on your next trip to Boston!

I need to come back ASAP! Completely lives up to the hype. Complex and unique flavors, and so many dishes that I wanted to try. Prices are pretty reasonable in my opinion. Only downside is that it gets busy, but the service was very fast and the waiters were really efficient. Ordered the taro dumplings and simply surprise for appetizers, and Kanom Jean Nam Ngiao and Kow Soi Moo Krob for entrees. The simply surprise and Kow Soi Moo Krob were my favorites, but everything was incredible.

A solid Thai place that features dishes from different regions of Thailand! We loved giant squid, and the pad see ew was well made. However, as stated in the restaurant name, I find that most dishes here are sweeter than regular Thai dishes which is not really a preference of mine. Service is quick and friendly and it does get packed super quickly during lunch and dinner hours even though they have a good amount of seating ! It's difficult to judge a restaurant in a general sense if you've only had experiences with it during covid. Alas, that's the case as both times I've had food from here was during the pandemic and they were both disasters. The first time was a dine in experience. The waiter took 30+ minutes to get us water after sitting down, let alone taking orders. Everything lagged and our food was very late to come out of the kitchen (took 50 minutes for appetizer and entree to get to our table after ordering it). A meal for two took 2.5 hours because of how slow the service was. By industry standard, it should take less than 1.5 for a table of 2. Either ways, we decided it was an isolated incidence and tried again. The second experience, we ordered in via Ubereats. What should've been a 50 minute delivery became a 2 hour delivery. Yup, 2 hours. It stated the restaurant was delayed and it reflected because when the food arrived, everything had to be microwaved again. The beef curry dish was basically missing beef ($17 for 2 small pieces of beef?) and overwhelming in its star anise flavor. The other curry was spilled into the bag. Lastly, the pad Thai came as a bowl of chicken instead of pad Thai. Considering the order took 2 hours to arrive, you think it would've atleast been correct. The only correct and delicious item that arrived was the mango sticky rice dessert. Overall, both dine in and take out experience were terrible. The restaurant is slightly more experience than an average Thai restaurant but unfortunately quality nor quantity reflects that. Cannot recommend unless you go to eat during slower hours instead of normal dining hours. read more

Love it here. The patio area on the street is nice. Kow Ka Moo Longan -pork is so tender it falls apart. Flavors are so good Pad See You flavors are on point without the greasyness you sometimes get with this dish. Would happily drown in a bowl of this. Gray-jub - very tasty soup dish, didn't blow me away with the flavors but there's a ton of crispy pork and tofu. Fried Honey Banana - they're wrapped up like springrolls and deep-fried. I've lived in Camberville for a over a couple of years and always wonder why I rarely eat here until I leave unsatisfied again. I really want to like Sugar and Spice but the dishes are a hit or a miss as a Thai food lover. Some dishes I've liked include the fried calamari and duck breast, papaya salad, sakoo sai gai, and excited chicken. I absolutely loved the tom saab gai soup which is super umami and fresh, but nothing else has really stuck out aside from that. I more so remember some disappointments, like the boat noodle soup which lacked flavor and especially the chicken on fire which was overdone to the extent it was hard to cut up. The jumbo shrimp pad thai has tasty noodles and sauce but the two jumbo shrimp on top have mushy meat on the inside. The food in general lacks spiciness for me. Also the Thai iced tea is too sugary and creamy - tastes premade. Alcoholic beverages are 75% ice at a minimum. I will try some more dishes the next time I inevitably come back. Try to get on the wait list if you go during a busy time since the line can be bonkers. It's chaotic so you better let the staff know when you've arrived, been called for a table, need a table, etc. I didn't like dining inside because I was swamed by fruit flies the last time I came around. read more

I was recommended this place by a friend, and I live near by. I was meeting a friend and needed a place to take them, and hopefully impress them. I finally had the opportunity to check Sugar & Spice out! EXPERIENCE My friend and I showed up close to opening without a reservation. We were seated immediately and used the QR code to look at the menu. A server came by to take our order. Our food came out quickly, we had to ask for extra serving utensils as we were eating family style. They were quick to provide. A good casual vibe to talk to your friends at. The portions were large, and we finished with many leftovers. FOOD (5/5) Kow Yum - The plating is beautiful. When mixed together, theres so many different flavors in every bite. I enjoyed getting bites of fresh fruits like mango and grapefruit! The dressing was relatively citruisy as well. There was also crunchy elements for texture. I've never seen this dish before, so it was really unique to me. Highly recommend! (4/5) Red Curry - Only 2 pepper signs, but it was fairly spicy. Not unbearable but definitely began drinking a noticeable amount of water. It was really good otherwise. The chicken was moist and the flavor other than spice was good. Ordered Sugar & Spice for pickup through UberEats. Everything was ready to go upon arrival. The restaurant was pretty busy, including the outdoor seating area. We got the drunken noodle and pad Thai, both with chicken. The portion sizes were fairly generous and the dishes were well-seasoned. Next time I would consider trying some of the regional dishes. Sugar and Spice is one of my go to Thai restaurants! Coming from California, I was so impressed with how amazing the Thai food in the Boston/Cambridge area was when I first moved here. Today, I ordered the Lemongrass Tofu, the Vegan Larb Gai, and the Fresh Watermelon Drink. The Lemongrass Tofu was delicious! I really enjoyed the texture of the tofu, and it was glazed in the lemongrass sauce, which had a nice balance of sweet and savory. I only wished that the green beans were cooked more, so that they could be more tender. The Vegan Larb Gai has a wonderful combination of sweetness, savory, spice, and sour.The lemongrass also added another depth of flavor to it. The flavors really worked in harmony together. I love how the fried tofu was cooked, crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. The Fresh Watermelon Drink was so refreshing and had a good sweetness to it. Our server was really nice and friendly, and she answered all our questions. Our food also came to our pretty quickly on a Monday afternoon. The restaurant definitely lives up to it's name of sugar and spice! Looking forward to many trips back to Sugar and Spice! read more

Sugar and spice is my comfort restaurant in the neighborhood. They have very reliable, quality food for a great price, whether lunch or dinner. Food comes out quickly and service is very efficient. They also have a great online system where you can "join the line virtually" and will be notified when you're close to getting seated. I've never had to wait long to get seated. Has great indoor or outdoor seating in the summer. read more

We came here for dinner at a Saturday night. We arrived around 6:30, there are 9 tables ahead of us, the waiting time is 45 mins. But we decided to wait. It does worth the waiting! Everything taste so good. I ordered their sugar & spice shrimp, it's sooooo good! No wondered it named after the store name. Girlfriend ordered seafood soup, wow, very big portion! she can't finish it. It's definitely a place to come back to try other stuff on the menu when there is a chance! read more

Best Thai food in Cambridge! I came here to catch up with my friend, and we took a while to go through the menu. The menu is extensive!! We both wanted to try something new, so we ordered the Guay-Jab and Kanom Jeen Namya. The Guay-Jab is the a noodle soup with crispy pork and tofu in a soy sauce broth. The noodle soup was flavorful and it was perfect for a chilly day! My favorite was the Kanom Jean Namya which is a rice noodle with spicy salmon curry topped with crispy salmon, boiled egg, vegetables. The salmon curry was creamy and definitely had a kick to it! read more

4.5 star rating: I'd definitely come back to this restaurant! There are so many delicious looking items on the menu and plenty of options to meet multiple dietary restrictions! The place is very popular and busy so plan accordingly. Despite being so busy, the service was exceptional. They were friendly, helpful, and everything came within a good amount of wait time. The food was delicious for the most part - the drunken noodles tasted slightly off than the flavor profile should be, almost like they gently burnt the onions but It wasn't so bad that I'd be willing to order it again to give it another chance. Everything we ordered was from the gluten free menu but that did not compromise any of the flavors or taste - I actually forgot that it was gluten free until my friend reminded me! Pricing for the food would be between $ - $$. The ambiance of the restaurant isn't much. The food presentation was very unique and definitely perfect for photos/insta-worthy. Helen was nice enough to reach out with a gift card for the initial salad order being wrong. I avoided salad the second go around and enjoyed the generous portioned pad Thai, veggie gyoza with tasty soy sauce, and crab Rangoon full of deliciousness. Everything that a Thai place should be and feel like. Their menu is extensive and we were spoilt for choices. This place opens for limited hours during the day, so its quite busy during peak hours. They do not take reservations. They have outdoor seating which is full almost every time you walk past this restaurant. We went in at 6pm with the hope of getting a table and were lucky to find one. Its a small, cozy place. We ordered Thai Iced Tea - the best I have had in and around Boston, not too sweet, but still creamy, loved it. Coconut Cream - Friend who had it gave it a thumbs up. We ordered veggie dumplings (2 dumplings) - it tasted better with the sauce it came it, otherwise it was okay. We also ordered Vegan Drunken Noodles - They were a little oily, not at all spicy, but tasted amazing. Friend who ordered Crying Tiger loved it. read more

Authentic Thai food! Extremely delicious and highly recommend. They use fresh Thai chili peppers that are spicy in their dishes. In addition, their Thai iced tea is fantastic. We came on a weekday around 7:00 and this place was packed! I made the mistake of not adding ourselves to the waitlist beforehand. I definitely recommend checking the waitlist ahead of time to see if there's a wait. The staff was slammed with takeout orders. It took about 30 mins for my party of two to be seated. We also noticed that there were space heaters as it was a little chilly by the door. We ordered the Guay-Jub and Jumbo Shrimp Pad Thai. The presentation was spot on. Both dishes were super flavorful and delicious. Our waitress checked up on us throughout our meal which I appreciated. I was super excited to go here since the food looks really good!!! I ordered the Kow Soi Moo Krob and my boyfriend ordered the Tom Yum Sukho Thai! Food: Kow Soi Moo Krob - It was super flavorful and the portion was pretty big! I liked the crispy/crunchiness from the pork belly and the and fried noodles? Tom Yum Sukho Thai - It was pretty big for a large. Thankfully my boyfriend didn't order the extra large (if you really like tom yum then go for it)! It was spicy and it was a little too much for him over time. Service: The waitresses were super nice! Cute, neighborhood Thai spot near Porter Square in Cambridge. Lots of menu options from all across Thailand, including vegan choices. I had the mango curry which was very tasty. I'd pass on the edamame next time as it had no seasoning. Also split the mango sticky rice for dessert and a few rounds of the Nom Krok coconut-lychee cocktails, all of which were addicting. Ordered from here for the first time on NYE and can't believe I've lived here so long without trying it! I placed a huuuge order but some of my favorites included: - Drunken Noodles - Salmon Saab (look out though, she's spicy ) - Crispy duck (a must try!) - Crab Rangoon Everything was delicious with so many unique and complementary flavors. Though I would totally order take out from here again, the only reason I went with a 4 and not a 5 is that some things could have traveled better and the textures were a bit off after cooling down in the car on the ride over. I'm looking forward to visiting this spot in person, maybe I'll have to circle back to update this bad boy to a 5 ‍ read more

I like the vibe and service here in the restaurant. The food is decent too. I went with friends and had it family style (each dish was shared). The food came with big portion and all of us were pleasantly surprised by how much it was We went on a Thursday afternoon so it wasn't very busy (although it looks almost full) and were seated right away. For appetizer we had papaya salad and I liked it. It was cool and refreshing. The vegetables were crunchy and flavorful. We also had crispy duck which was great too. I like how they make the duck fried outside but not as oily as other fried food. The duck meat was still juicy and tender. I enjoyed it a lot. The pad Thai was decent, although I wouldn't say it blown my mind away when eating it, but I am not regretting having it. The service was in time and patient, they checked back on us often and added water frequently. Good night experience catching up with friends. read more

Now one of my favorite go-to places for Thai. Great tasting flavors, reasonable prices and value. I've only gotten take-out, but noticed they do have sit-down dinning now! They have a cute outdoor set-up with lights. Everything we've ordered has been super tasty, bursting with flavor. Would order any of the items we again depending on what we are craving that day. Kanom Jean Nam Ngiao: fall of the bone dish that comes in a broth. The meat is tender and super tasty and something new that I've never had anywhere else Pad thai: classic pad thai made just the way I like it, moist but not soggy with plenty of flavor Drunken noodles: nice balance of flavor with a little spice. Super good! Crispy chicken basil: plenty of chicken with a slight crisp in a sweet and sour sauce. Love the small pineapple chunks and some veggies mixed in. I've been ordering takeout and dining in at this place for years and it never gets old. Best Thai I've had in the Boston area! I put my name on the online waitlist on a Sunday night for a table for 6 and when we arrived the place was packed! Inside is funky, modern-looking decor. We were seated within 5 minutes of arriving. The service was great despite how busy they were. The crab Rangoon are my favorite of all time - a must try! The Thai iced tea was delicious, as always. I love the Pad Mee Korat dish so much it's become my go-to! I used to always get the chicken drunken noodles, which are so good, but the pad mee korat is so much fresher and an absolutely massive portion. I love that I can have it for lunch tomorrow. I had heard some good things about this place and it definitely lived up to the expectations. The number one attraction is the huge selection: they have all of the classic items you expect from a Thai restaurant in the US and then separate menus for the foods from different regions. It was honestly overwhelming, though obviously awesome that there is so much to explore. The drinks menu is similarly long, with lots of cool cocktails it seems. I tried the Kow Soi, which was quite good (though still not the best I've had in Cambridge). My friend got a spicy tofu dish and that was excellent. With so many choices in sure there will be a great one for you, the trouble will be finding it! The staff was super friendly and the ambiance was nice. Since it was a nice day we took advantage of the outdoor seating which was really cute. All told, probably the best place I've been in Porter square! read more

One of my favourite cheap(er) eats places in Boston/Cambridge. Their curb side patio is magical. Noodles were delicious (both the drunken noodles and pad mee morat) and the summer rolls were fresh. This place would probably be great for take out and if I was judging it solely as a take out eatery I would give 4 stars. But alas, this is a restaurant and we sat down and ate here- so I'm giving our experience 3 stars. The service was good. Our waiter was very friendly. The food was tasty and had affordable prices for Thai food. The food took some time to prepare. But, the 3 star rating is mainly for the lackluster outdated atmosphere. This restaurant needs a serious upgrade. We ordered: 1.) Gra Pao Chicken 2.) Virgin Garden Both dishes were good! The day has come when I'm no longer a fan of this restaurant. Used to be a good local Thai place but since it became popular, the quality of the food and service has plummeted. That little something that used to make them unique and special just isn't there anymore. They also changed their menu the past few years and removed some of their more authentic choices to appeal to their current audience. I stopped coming here since about six months ago. Hope they are able to make a comeback in the future but for now, I'm saying goodbye. read more

The food has amazing presentation and taste! We got the chicken over the fire. Very fun presentation, literally slices of chicken on top of a little fire. the flavor was sweet and nicely charred. Also got the hor mok, which is salmon, shrimp, and egg curry in a legit coconut shell. This was amazing as well. Great flavors and presentation. Then we got the crispy pad Thai with pork which was basically fried pad Thai noodles. This was delicious as well. Got the elephant's blood cocktail. It was eh, very tart. This is the second bad experience I had with customer service. The first time they delivered the food but never notified the number on the site. When i went to get my food an hour later it was not there. They banned me from deliveries as their result The second time the system added 2 items for a few items on the order. I requested them to fix it just after placing the order and was told they couldn't. I was held responsible for both their mistakes. The food is ok, but with that customer service I am happier going to another Thai restaurant. It's not any better in my opinion than the many other Thai options. I miss the old management. The food portions were bigger, the prices were less, and customer service was more sincere. I will not return again as a result which is unfortunate as the order was inexpensive and they lost in the long run. read more

Terrible. Ordered pickup on a Friday night and gave them an hour before I showed up at the restaurant. Waited for another hour and it still wasn't ready. Manager had an attitude and it took close to two and half hours until they finally gave me a refund. Place smelled like dead fish too. Will never go back. read more

Vegetables were all cut in huge hunks - both dishes had giant pieces of red bell peppers and onions. Fried rice was pretty bland and barely had any Chinese broccoli in it. Ambiance was bare bones - you order at the counter and they bring you your food and plastic side plates. Half the tables were stacked with boxes and bags of takeout orders. To top it off there's no bathroom, we were told to use the bathroom at another local business. If I'm gonna spend $60 somewhere, I expect to be able to wash my hands before eating and use the restroom. Perhaps there are some specialty dishes that we didn't try but this was my 2nd time ordering from here (I got take out once before) and both times the food was pretty bland. A truly underwhelming experience - especially when there are so many better restaurants in the area.

The best part about our dinner was that the staff let us stay and chat for hours without rushing us out. It was not a crowded evening being so cold but it was a very pleasant experience. My family has been coming to noodle market since we first bought our home in town in 2018. It's our go to place for pho when someone is sick. The wine was crisp and dry and a perfect accompaniment to the oysters we ordered. Hourly usually has up to 10 oysters on offer from New England and the Chesapeake. We ordered 2 each of the Paine's Creek, East Beach Blonde, Island Creek, Buttercup, and four of the Mookie Blues. Our favorites were the Buttercups and Mookie Blues. Both are from Maine and are larger with a textured brine and crisp finish. The main course was the Roasted Monkfish Almondine served with a cauliflower puree, raisins, caulilini, brown butter, and capers. The filet was meaty, flavorful and roasted to perfection. We also had the Striped Bass which was served on the bone with snow peas, zucchini, squash, and fava beans. Our server was prompt, attentive, and informative and we could not have been more pleased with the service. One of the genuine joys of dining at Harvard Square is you meet other wonderful, interesting people. The table on one side had two astronomers from MIT while the other had four high school principals from Houston. The conversation was engaging and delightful. Hourly has some strong choices for dessert but it sits next door to Mike's Pastry, a Harvard Square tradition, so we opted to indulge our sweet tooth there. We were presented with the menu, which was fairly comprehensive, and a stern warning not to waste food...at risk of PUNISHMENT. This was not an issue as my party did not believe in food waste. We collectively ordered a number of non-sushi bar items (like hibachi) and sushi and sashimi. I thought the quality of the sushi was solid. I've been to AYCE places where they go especially heavy on the rice and light on the fish. This was not the case here, fortunately. I enjoyed all of the sushi bar items I ordered. The hibachi steak was also tasty. The venue is well-decorated, although it's not the quietest when it's busy. Value was decent if you come with an appetite: around $37 as of June 2026 for a weekday dinner. My only hesitation is with the service itself. They didn't have a huge number of people working at the sushi bar or a huge number of waiters, so some of the items took a little while to come out. I think I'd be better calibrated the second time around to order more strategically. We also sometimes had to flag down the wait staff to order more items. Don't expect them to come to you. Given its location, the restaurant was surprisingly busy when we visited on a Tuesday night. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes for a table at a time when we assumed students had already left for the summer (alas, we were wrong). After being seated, we were handed menus and given a very "generous" 30 minutes to look them over, though not by choice. Limited staffing combined with the dinner rush meant that no one came by our table for another half hour. My friend and I sympathized with the staff, but the delays definitely added up over the course of the meal. In fact, by the time we had placed and finished our first round, a waiter came by to ask whether we wanted a second order, only to immediately let us know that the kitchen was closing. As for the food, we mainly ordered sashimi (because why fill up on rice?), along with a few appetizers: hibachi steak, teriyaki steak, fried calamari, fried tofu and gyoza, as well as several hand rolls. With the exception of the steak and sashimi, everything was strictly fine. The fried calamari tasted good but had uneven breading, with some of the coating falling right off. The fried tofu and gyoza were standard; not bad, but not particularly memorable either. The salmon, however, was excellent and on par with Nijiya: buttery, fresh, and satisfying. The steak was also tender and juicy. For some reason, Sushi Kingdom prepares the two steak dishes differently. The teriyaki steak had better flavor, but it was noticeably more well done than the hibachi cubed steak. Unfortunately, everything else was incredibly mid. As others have noted, many of the rolls are absolutely drenched in mayo. The worst offender, and one I'd strongly avoid, was the Tuna Lover Roll. The roll itself was bland, and the minced tuna in the center had a warm, almost sour taste. Suffice it to say, we did not finish it. We came to Sushi Kingdom hoping it might be a better, or at least comparable, alternative to Nijiya, but considering both the food quality and the wait times, I'd much rather travel a bit farther for a better meal. That said, this may change. One of the waiters mentioned that they've been seeing a significant uptick in customers since opening, so perhaps things will improve once operations become more streamlined, or once the initial hype dies down. Until then, I'd probably steer clear unless you're specifically a sashimi or steak fiend. In that case, by all means, eat away. The portions are GIGANTIC so I would maybe order something smaller next time, but man that pasta was delicious. The "chicken" was perfectly fried, and the pasta was well seasoned. First of all, I loved the atmosphere and funky design, color and accessories of the place. Made me feel welcome and gave me a feel of being in Cambridge (or how cool I picture Cambridge to be). We ordered steamed shumai and that left us satisfied. The beer is $3.95 which is also very affordable comparing to Boston. However, the lost stars are due to my pad tai being soo sweet and soo sticky that I honestly didn't know if I could finish it. and here I thought, how could I go wrong with that! Two shrimp and not as much chicken as I was hoping for didn't help the situation. My friend ordered "drunken noodle" which has gotten great reviews and he seemed happy with it, although it was a bit spicy for his taste. I believe there were marks next to it indicating it but I suppose everyone's ability to handle spicy varies. We were approached to see if we were finished before we were. And we were never approached to see how everything was. It is unfortunate but the service was a little lacking. It was good to catch up with my friend whom i haven't seen in a while but now that I think about it, it was actually a long time before we were approached to order way in the beginning too. Boyfriend and I get dinner from them every Friday - they're always so nice and greet you with a smile no matter how busy it gets. *Top things to get are the crab Rangoon's (life changing flavor), jumbo shrimp pad Thai, veggie pad Thai, and the steamed shumai. The dinner portions could feed 4 (I always eat for 1...) and it's so cheap! Dining in with them: quick service and food time is hardly ever a long wait. The ambience is fantastic and warming- the design is modern with touches of culture. Not a lot of seating (more popular as take out) but they do have outdoor seating for warmer days! Take out: 99% of the time the food wait time is pretty good as well- one time the driver forgot our food but they're always crazy busy so it was fine. This place is great on so many levels. First off, the food is delicious and the prices are very modest. Secondly, the entire staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. Even if the food was horrible, I would still come back here just b/c the staff is so nice I am a big fan of the crispy duck, the sugar and spice shrimp and the drunken noodles. I'm also obsessed with their Jasmine green tea. Even though you would think all green teas taste the same, there is something about theirs that has a little xtra added umph to it. Not sure what it is - or maybe I'm imagining it, since I am so intoxicated in love w/ this place. In any case, it's a 4-minute walk from the Porter T stop and even if you hate the food, it is so inexpensive that it isn't a big loss if walk away disappointed. But, I'm sure you won't be. Go! Let me start by saying that I don't know how good their food is. Unfortunately I did not stay long enough to find out. On 01/18/2009 at around 6 pm my wife and I came to this restaurant for some food. We were met at the reception desk by a young woman who by her body language seemed to be telling us that we were a monumental inconvenience to her. She neither greeted us nor made eye contact. After being led to our table she threw our menus on it and simply walked away. My wife and I looked at each other, amazed that someone could behave like this. After such a welcome we decided not to eat there and walked out. I read some of the reviews regarding their rude staff but this must be a new low even for them. The crab rangoon appetizer was honestly the best I've ever had. The texture was perfect -- crispy on the outside with a rich, flavorful filling that was clearly made with care. For the entrée, I ordered the Chicken on Fire, and it was both a visual experience and a delicious meal. The perfectly seasoned chicken arrives with a flame underneath it, making for a memorable presentation, but the flavor itself is what truly stands out. The restaurant has a fast-moving energy to it -- the food comes out quickly, the service is very efficient, and it feels like they do just as much takeout business as dine-in, which honestly adds to the neighborhood spot vibe. I absolutely adore Sugar and Spice. This has been my go to Thai restaurant for the past 5 years. I have had many meals here, and I am always impressed with the wonderful service and incredible food. The servers take the time to greet you and get to know you. They are incredibly friendly and attentive. I recently dined at this restaurant and was blown away by the flavors and presentation! We ordered Hor Mok (salmon curry served in a coconut) and the Crispy Pork, which was cooked to perfection. I am so happy to say that it not only tastes better but also more authentic from the last time I've been here! I only have one suggestion for you when you come to Sugar & Spice: Get their Tom Yum Sukhothai. It hits the spot during winter! It's also much healthier than greasy ramen, and more flavorful as well. Great restaurant with such affordable and authentic dishes! The size and quality cannot be beat. I love their new drinks menu, and honestly I can't resist getting a Thai Iced Tea every single time I come here. The food is just the right amount of spicy, and they are very accommodating with that as well, so as long as you let your server know what degree of spicy you want, you'll get it! This was my favorite place when it was called Spice and Rice over by Inman Square. Then the moved and I couldn't find them. I was sad. Then I noticed the decora inside Sugar and Spice looked similar to Spice and Rice. So I asked. It WAS the same place. And my Spice and Rice chicken is now called Crispy Chicken Basil. My blue-nosed pitbull loves the Crab Rangoon, too. As do I. Best Thai place in the area - and I have looked. read more

I ordered the Tom Kar Soup and Drunken Noodles from Sugar & Spice, and both were really good! The soup was rich and comforting with a perfect balance of coconut and spice, and the drunken noodles were flavorful with just the right amount of heat. Portions were generous and everything tasted fresh. A great spot for Thai food--I'll definitely be ordering again! read more

I took a 3AM bus from New York to Boston, just to be here for the weekend, so I could come to Sugar and Spice for the mango curry. Seriously, get it. I can not recommend it more highly. Also, the garlic wings are spectacular and the frozen tarp boba is so creamy, I do not understand how they make it so good. read more

Sugar and Spice is a staple for us. It's a reasonably priced and tasty Thai restaurant. I usually get drunken noodles or basil fried rice, which I love. My wife likes the curries and pad Thai, also excellent. They have an outdoor dining option and take out. I'm a bit biased though-I met my wife here. read more

Everything is Excellent.. My favorite menu is the Pad Thai Country and I also like the Sugar& Spice Shrimp Umm YuM YuM.. Let talk about dessert Oh my!!!!!!
