My husband and I search Yelp and trust in Yelp to find us new delicious restaurants that we have never experienced, this is where we chose to eat on a Saturday morning before a day of swimming. I read the reviews and was very excited to try this new restaurant, as soon as we walked in everyone working was so friendly, so welcoming you couldn't help but smile! Our waitress was Reba she helped with our decision making for both of our meals she even sat with us (practicing social distancing of course ) talking about her favorites the new dinner that would be opening up soon and giving us helpful information as we were trying to decide on which of Rebas favorites we were to chose while my husband had the breakfast quesadilla with chorizo I had the wispy blueberry pancakes best choices we could have made being first timers.....all of it was too die for while the food was amazing our waitress was outstanding, friendly, and engaging, just an all around great place to eat!!!! Will be back again and again. This is the coolest place ever. I started coming here for breakfast when I was just a freshman at Xavier University. Now, as a senior, I bring my family here whenever they are in town for the weekend! Their menu is huge so everyone in my family can find something they like. This is usually tough with my picky family! They've got all of the breakfast classics on their menu. The restaurant is very efficient. It is a small space and there is usually a bit of a wait, but it goes quickly. The employees move so quickly and anticipate every need-- they clearly have been doing this quite awhile! The food comes fast and the portions are very generous. My favorite part of this place is the rubber ducks. Yes, you read that correctly. On the walls of the diner are hundreds of rubber ducks. Largest (only?) collection I have ever seen! Better yet, they have bins filled with random ducks and everyone who dines there gets to pick one to take home! Truly a special place. A family breakfast might take a little longer depending on what time you go. The food was amazing and they really try and get you the best deal, like with the omelettes if a build your own would just be cheaper they do it that way. The pancakes a thin and whispy and the omelettes are big and fluffy. Just the way it should be. The bright colors are very welcoming and the service was good until the end. They were definitely busy, but it seemed strange to me that the second my dad left for the restroom they cleared his place setting and set down a menus for the next customers. We love sugar n spice! We live right outside of the original location, so we can walk right to it for a quick breakfast. However, beware that the original location is very small, and is best for an intimate brunch for two. The OTR location is best for larger groups--a much bigger setting with a cool 1950's diner feel! This place is literally a whole in the wall diner. It's so tiny. But as they say, big things come in small packages! I absolutely love this place. The food is so good and always comes out hott! During the week you can almost always get right in however, on the weekends there might be a bit of a wait. But so worth it! Th wispy thin pancakes have a great taste! Don't be fooled by the thin size; 3 of these is plenty if you are getting sides. If you like scrambled eggs, make sure to order your eggs scrambled hard so they aren't runny. My family and I traveled back home to Cincinnati during spring break. This cozy little diner has always been one of my favorites. I moved away 20 years ago and it is still up and running. The environment was COVID-19 -safe with spaced seating and mass requirements. The food was delicious and the staff was amazing as always. It was the most normal eating experience we've had since the pandemic. These people truly know how to run a diner. There was a wait but everywhere has a wait now. This place is great. It is a little rough around the edges, I will admit. But once you're seated it's a great experience and everyone is super friendly. The spiced waffle with strawberry sauce is delicious. It really just tastes like the essence of this place. Once you're seated and have ordered they come around with a bucket of rubber duckys and each guest may choose one to take home which was a really pleasant surprise. Over the weekend I wanted to try somewhere new for breakfast and immediately thought of Sugar n' Spice, the bright pink diner on Reading Road just up the street from Xavier. We arrived just after 9am Saturday to find a completely full restaurant and a few people waiting in line for a table. Fortunately the turnover was really quick and we had a seat in one of the booths directly across from the bar counter seating within ten minutes. The inside of Sugar n' Spice is not very large, but the seating is really packed in. There is even a half booth with seating on just one side of the half sized table. The walls are painted bright and feature cartoon characters and breakfast items. There is a huge collection of rubber ducks too. Needless to say, my son was easily amused throughout our brief stay. For breakfast I ordered the biscuits n' chunky sausage gravy, which is only available on Saturday and Sunday ($4.50). The biscuits didn't appear to be homemade, but the sausage gravy definitely was. There were plenty of large chunks of sausage in the creamy and peppery gravy. It wasn't the best biscuits and gravy I've had, but not the worst either. I also ordered a side of goetta ($2.50) that was cooked perfectly. My wife built her own omelette (starting at $5.25, vegetables and cheeses are $.50 each, meats are $2.25 and up). This was the largest omelette I have ever seen! She really loved her creation and said it was one of the better omelets she has had. It comes served with a toasted English muffin as well. We ordered a half stack of blueberry wispy thin pancakes for our son ($3.50). He must have really loved these thin pancakes as he easily ate half of his plate, quite an accomplishment for our just turned two-year old. I stole a couple of bites of these famous cakes and really enjoyed their light and thin texture and was surprised to find them even a little crisp around the edges. Normally I prefer thicker pancakes, but the flavor in these was very nice. Our service was very quick and efficient. The way most of the seating is around a central service area really allows for the servers to do their jobs without fear of running into customers. The food was good and I think we will definitely return again sometime in the future. read more

I don't know what happened to this place but it is sad. SNS was the first place I ate at when I came to Cincinnati. I liked it so much that when we moved here it became a go to for me and for my family. My last trip there was a year to a year and a half ago and the food was great. My daughter and I had a great time and wonderful experience. Today? Idk what the hell that was. Don't even get me started on the dry tasteless overcooked beggars portion of hasbrowns. Or the sausage links, that were over cooked, chewed like jerky, and had more oats in it then a granola bar, ya no thanks. Pancakes by themselves were ok however the syrup had about the same amount of sugar in it that I put in my kool aid so ya, way too sweet. Eggs were cooked over medium to perfection so good job chef. And service was poor. Poor young lady. Definitely not the industry for you. I think she may have accidentally pierced her frontal lobe because, well, let's just say there may not be enough sandwiches for the picnic. Won't be going back. Sucks. We went to check this local restaurant as a recommendation from a waiter at a wine bar. He described the pancakes as wispy and that is a Great Way to describe them! The Mexican omelet was huge and packed with flavor. I'd suggest sharing an order of the 4 blueberry pancakes and then splitting the omelet. This is a tiny place so if you come after 10 on a weekend expect a wait. Food comes out quickly and the servers were great. They also let us sample the fried Mac and cheese bites and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. As an added bonus you are able to pick out an small rubber duckie to take home!! If your in Cincinnati or like us and lived here check this place out. There is plenty of parking and you can't miss the pink exterior with a pig statue balancing a plate of pancakes on its snout! The place is pretty small, so fair warning you're going to be waiting for a while. It also may look a little sketchy if you're not from around there and have never been. This diner has something for everyone who is seeking comfort and value, not health consciousness, including rubber duckies. The pancakes are tasty, and my dad's eyes almost rolled in his head over the bacon wrapped hot dog. They have hand cut fries, one of my favorite side dishes. I have to say there is something disingenuous about the omelettes, though. They are fluffy and competent holders of the ingredients you choose. The Greek fixings were just right, but the omelette didn't quite taste like eggs. I wonder what they mix them with to make them so fluffy. It was an oddity, the first time I felt like an omelette was faking. I know restaurants that supplement the egg with pancake batter and who knows what else, but they usually taste more like eggs. The server was INCREDIBLE for 75% of our visit, then as we finished she was hard to catch, but perhaps that was just timing. A friend from Northern Kentucky wanted to meet up for brunch and suggested Sugar n' Spice. Do not let Avondale's reputation dissuade you from visiting, this place is bright, cheerful, and homey inside. We went on a cold, snowy Tuesday, and the restaurant was still very busy. Luckily, there was only a fifteen minute wait for two! Our waitress was sassy, patient, and attentive, and gave us time to catch up over coffee as we perused the menu. My friend ordered a greek omelet, and I selected chicken and waffles, my weakness. As we waited for our food we played Connect Four, which they bring to your table while you wait, it's a nice touch. Our food arrived, piping hot, and was delicious. The chicken was had flavorful crunchy breading, and juicy white meat on the inside. It was served on the bone, but I didn't mind taking the time to debone it. The waffle was also incredibly scrumptious, fluffy with a little crispness along the edges. Drenching both chicken and the waffle in maple syrup and hot sauce, brought everything together. I had not seen this friend for months, and I really appreciated that the waitress never rushed us, even after we finished our meals. I should add that there was no longer a line, so we weren't hogging a table, but she still made sure to fill our coffee mugs as we chatted for another 30 minutes. So, sooo happy to hear they are opening another Sugar n' Spice! This is one of my favorite breakfast places to come when I want to feel at home-- the wait staff members at S&S are SO kind and personable. Many will greet customers by name and remember their favorite orders. Their genuine care and interest is refreshing! There are booth tables along the sides of the restaurant, but I prefer to sit at the counter, where you can really feel immersed in the community of regulars who come to the restaurant. The breakfast food is simple diner food, but it's done well, and I really have a thing for their coffee. Maybe it's the refills. :) If you're lucky, they'll be handing out brownie squares or complementary rubber ducks while you're there. I love love love this happy little diner! read more

Discovered a hidden gem in Cincinnati. Nothing fancy about this place, but the atmosphere and food are remarkable. This is a unique diner unlike any I've been to in the country thus far.
