They give you a full cup of any pudding option for $7.50 size small ($9.75 for large and $45 for a party size). I tried the vegan banana pudding and it was very good! Tasted on the sweet side which I expected, since to begin this dessert combines three sweet elements (ripe bananas, vanilla wafers and custard). You have to be in a pudding mood and when you are, theirs hits the spot every time! I ate half the same night and saved the other half in the fridge for breakfast the next morning*, it doesn't keep long so I wouldn't recommend consuming later than that if kept consistently chilled in the fridge. Aside from puddings and cupcakes, they have a selection of coffee and tea drinks, pies and cookies. They carry seasonal cupcake flavors too. Having frequented SSS often in their original location a couple blocks away, I kinda miss the coziness of that space though just glad they're around to provide that yummy, unpretentious and nostalgic dose of baked goodness the local community loves. On my recent visit the staff member on a weekend evening was friendly, served their treats with a smile, and a PSA that they were closing in 15 minutes, I appreciated the heads up! Side note: while I was there, a pistachio cupcake gazed very longingly at me, one of my favorites and I admit I gazed back, though for the sake of my waistline I had to cut off eye contact and tell myself I'd come back another time. I was walking by with my kids and realized that the location moved to Grand Street. A much welcome sight! I didn't mind walking to Rivington Street and neighboring area but this is awesome to have a dessert shop in the neighborhood. I popped in on a quiet Saturday afternoon and my treated my kids to the first flavors that piqued their interests. Bob (vanilla cake and chocolate) and the Ooey Gooey won. Ooey gooey hasn't changed. After 21 years on Rivington Street this beloved bakery and neighborhood staple recently relocated a few blocks away to the Grand Street "strip" next to Kosssar's Bialys. Also located on the same street as popular spots "The Pickle Guys" and "Doughnut Plant." You can't miss their extensive display showing mouthwatering cupcakes and puddings to grab and go. They also have a second location nearby which is housed inside the ultra popular Essex Market. Everything I've tried from here was incredibly tasty, from their puddings to their cupcakes. Their banana pudding is truly a standout and I believe their most popular dessert. It easily gives Magnolia Bakery's banana puddin' a run for their money. I think lots of regulars like me would agree that it's even better than Magnolia's. It's truly addictive! The sweets and staff are so good. I was pressed for time to get vegan desserts for a wedding and I knew about Sugar Sweet Sunshine having vegan options. I didn't expect them to be this good, if not better than their non-vegan options. The staff was incredibly nice and very understanding with me and my requests. I even called a day before the event to ask if I could switch the pick up time and they're were very responsive to aiding in my request. This place gives SUCH Magnolia vibes. And this is my first time here, but I've been to Magnolia before, and I don't know who's copying who, but I rest my case. We were excited to order from here and purchased quite a few things to try: So, here's what we got and what we thought of it: A yum yum bar - chocolate and raspberry bar - sounds a lot tastier than it was. It comes prepackaged so I'm not sure when it was made but it's a bit dry and something was off about it. Sunshine cupcake: this is just a plain vanilla store-bought type cupcake - no filling - nothing special about the buttercream or cake itself. Not super moist, and just okay. Lemon yummy: Same. It was a cupcake. The lemon flavor was artificial. We've made lemon cupcakes with freshly squeezed lemons. This was not that and also no filling also. Flan: We typically love flan when it's made right. This wasn't. This also comes pre-pacakaged. It was missing any syrup and that egg-y caramelized wonderfulness. It was just dense and lacking flavor. I always forget to take pictures every time I'm in here. It's a cute little spot right off of Manhattan bridge for those that are traveling to it from LI. They are dog friendly as well. There's a refined taste that Sugar Sweet Sunshine has perfected that contradicts the overbearing diabetic inducing sweet excess that some bakeries believe is required for the profession. Not everything has to be so sweet that it takes away from any other flavors that are being highlighted. Sugar Sweet Sunshine's subtle hint of sweet is rewarding. Sugar Sweet Sunshine's cupcakes is what cupcakes are supposed to be, not the monstrosities some bakeries have made them to be. Cupcakes are supposed to be single servings, not meant to be cut in two, or three, or four because of the enormous size of the cupcake. They aren't supposed to give us, and our young, sugar highs for hours.
