After all the hype, sugarfish was one of those spots I was eager to finally try on my LA trip. However, overall, the visit was average at best. I do think for the price, this is a very approachable and affordable option for those interested in a more omakase style dinner. However, I feel like the execution was subpar. The fish quality was just okay, and some cuts were a bit too mushy for my taste. The sushi rice was also too soft and warm imo. The presentation was also lackluster. I do think that the flavor combinations themselves (like the seasonings and ingredient pairings) + the handrolls were solid though. The servers were very sweet and understanding. However, I left the meal confused on who received what, and at one point, I think my friend's and my courses got switched a couple rounds, as we ordered different sets.

We got this delivered because we were pretty sleepy and it was my bfs first time eating it but they were within driving distance from us to our hotel so still pretty fresh! A must for me when I'm in LA. I ordered for us the following: * Don't think just eat $57 * Albacore sushi $6.25 * Sea bream with shiso $6.75

This is our go to for sushi as it has a nice ambiance, great food, and great service. We ordered 5 of the same order, but for the first 4 courses, only 4 would come out and the 5th person's much later. They continued to apologize and finally at the very end, everything came out together. I know they were trying to get it right and compensated at the end. We will always come back as their food and service never disappoints!

The most mid sugarfish experience ever. The serves had no idea what they were doing and two of them came because one was training. But the trainee did not know how to explain anything, because she was slurring her words, and the other person kept correcting her in front of us. Plates were given out and then taken back...it was a mess. We didn't get our unagi order and they said, "you didn't get it?" Very unprofessional for the establishment that they are. Obviously, food was solid, but usually you go to sugarfish for the "seamless experience" along with the solid quality of the fish, but that wasn't the case this time. RIP

Fantastic sushi and reasonably priced! Still as intimate and compact as your traditional sushi spot, but nowhere near as stuffy. We all went with the "I trust, you decide" option, and our faith was not misplaced! A variety of nigiri and hand rolls after a edamame appetizer. The Otoro was the best cut of fatty tuna I have ever had (I am by no means a sushi expert, but my goodness it was the most succulent piece of fish I have had)! Not only was the service decent and the fish fresh, but VERY reasonably priced especially considering LA prices! Worth a stop on your way through the neighborhood! My only regret was not getting a picture of the fish :(

Coming here is so dangerous for me! I live within walking distance of this location and would come here every day if I could. The sushi here is consistently fresh and always guaranteed to be mouthwatering. You can't go wrong with ordering the Trust Me meals and I also love the Crab handrolls and oftentimes will order a few extra if just those. The restaurant is on the smaller side so you may have to wait during busy times but trust me it's worth it! Takeout is also easy and they present the meals in clean/easy takeout boxes with dividers so the rolls don't touch.

Met a friend for dinner here after work on a Tuesday. Parking is a bit tricky, and I ended up in a garage down an alleyway behind the restaurant. Just be aware that it's pretty dimly lit and the walk was a bit far. Worth it though, cause I love SUGARFISH! We both ordered the Trust Me, which comes with edamame, tuna sashimi in a ponzu and chive sauce, albacore sushi, salmon sushi with toasted sesame, toro hand roll, yellowtail sushi with lemon, blue and dungeoness crab handroll, and instead of the Hirame sushi with yuzu ponzu, I believe we got toro instead. Everything was fresh and delicious. They always have warm rice with their sushi which makes it so much better. Got the uni and another toro on the side as well. Both were great. Our server was very attentive the whole night as well. Overall, a great dinner! I would recommend this location for a more intimate meal as they didn't look like they had tables for large groups.

Sushi is always amazing. Can never go wrong with the trust me box. The environment is very nice and clean however, when you place an order, they always take longer than the wait time they give you.

MAJOR UPDATE: I was reached out by an overseeing manager letting me know to come in again for another try and to get 2 comp a la carte items from the menu. I've always heard good things about sugarfish so decided to give this place a second run, and I'm so happy I did. I was greeted by their manager from the beginning and he explained for the mishap that happened a few weeks ago and that ultimately it was a miscommunication. We proceeded to order the Nozawa Trust Me menu, which all fish were in stock and available and we were so pleased with the quality from start to finish!! Fish is beyond fresh and truly melts in your mouth. We got a round of albacore in the set and it's truly the best albacore I've ever had, so creamy and soft, not as lean as most other places have it. All other items in this set were *chefs kiss and flavor was on point. Portions are excellent and this sushi shop definitely makes you consider quality of quantity (especially since my partner and I usually frequent AYCE locations) As for the comp items we got a limited special of Anago and Hirame. Both were fresh and yummy. We especially loved the Anago (eel) because it was more meaty vs skin, which is usually how eel ends up. Service was impeccable! The manager continuously checked in on us and kept making sure our food was coming out promptly. The experience felt very personable and I appreciated that they took the time to make sure our experience today was nothing but great. Also felt appreciated to know that our reviews are being heavily regarded in their business. Ambiance is clean and tidy. Seating is quite limited, but customers and in and out consistently, so wait times seem manageable. Coming here during the day also brightens up the scene and I preferred this ambiance over the nighttime one since it was brighter and welcoming. Parking can be difficult. We came on a Friday afternoon and had to park a block or two away at a meter, but truly was worth it for the experience we received. After this experience my partner and I are excited to frequent sugarfish more often when we want an upscale sushi dining experience.

First time at this location went for lunch, and we were the first customers of the day. The place looks new, and the service was great--our server was super cool and kept my green tea flowing. I ordered the Trust Me, and we added a bunch of different nigiri. Everything came out quick and flawless, as expected from Sugarfish. I hadn't been in a while, but the quality was still good and fresh. The only downside we had this trip was the rice--it kept falling apart? In the end I'll definitely be back to Sugarfish soon maybe not this location as it is quite far from my house. Also don't forget to sign up for your birthday meal!

The food was fantastic, the fresh fish was da bomb. Quaint place not to big but very comfortable. Our severs were amazing and made sure we got what we needed. When in LA I will fur sure come back.

The reservation times open at 10 am every Sunday on Tock, and I set an alarm to remind me to book it. I missed the alarm by 30 minutes, and when I went to book, the coveted Friday and Saturday reservations were gone, but I was able to score a 5:15 pm reservation on a Wednesday night. If a weekend reservation is imperative, I recommend being at your computer at 10 am on the dot on a Sunday morning. We arrived early and parked in the neighborhood, street parking was easy to find at this time on a weekday afternoon. We were welcomed into the restaurant at a few minutes before our reservation time by a member of staff wearing a suit. We were seated at our table, in the second room. We were asked about our water preference and then immediately brought said water and an alcoholic beverage menu. We were not brought a food menu as the restaurant is kaiseki course and all options are decided by the chef. I believe that they accommodate some dietary restrictions, but I am unsure of which specific ones they can accommodate and which they can't. N/Naka serves 13 courses in their kaiseki, and each course was plated beautifully and with a lot of detail. While everything was superb, a couple of standouts for me personally were the truffle pasta (which the staff informed us, chef had been cooking and serving every day for many years), the wagyu steak and the sushi. The ambiance felt upscale and elegant without being over the top or gaudy. Service was lovely. The staff were friendly and focused on providing the perfect experience for us. Everyone was kind and attentive without being overly formal, like some fine dining restaurants. Chef Nakayama came out at the end of the meal to greet us and thank us for dining, which was a nice touch. The staff also took a Polaroid of us to commemmorate our evening, which was the perfect ending. We were sent home with some madeleines and tea. This was an 11/10 dining experience, however, I will say that it was probably the priciest dinner I've ever had in LA.

When reservations opened online, we had to quickly copy and paste our credit card information to complete the booking before it sold out. A deposit was also required to confirm the reservation. It goes without saying that this 10-course fine-dining omakase is a truly memorable culinary experience. It is also worth noting that the sushi quality is fresh, very good with a nice prestation, but they are not the best in comparison to some of Japanese Sushi eateries at DTLA. It goes without saying that this 10-course omakase delivers a memorable dining experience from start to finish. The sushi is undeniably fresh, beautifully presented, and expertly prepared. While the overall quality is excellent, I would rank it just below some of the top-tier Japanese sushi restaurants in Downtown Los Angeles. Nevertheless, the combination of attentive service, elegant presentation, and the overall dining experience makes it well worth the visit. On the other hand, the high price point may have been one of the factors behind Michelin's decision to downgrade n/naka from two stars to one star a few years ago.

We crossed a few intersections to get there, and it was well worth the walk. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a warm and welcoming host. The ambiance is light and airy, featuring high ceilings, light-colored walls, and light wood furnishings. The overall aesthetic is clean, modern, and very inviting.
