Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday on 5/23, and our server Vanessa was absolutely amazing! She was so sweet, incredibly patient while we were ordering, and provided some of the best customer service. This was our entire group's first time dining here, and it was such a beautiful experience from start to finish. Trying a new restaurant can always be hit or miss, especially when it comes to service, but having a wonderful waitress truly makes a difference. Vanessa made us feel welcome and taken care of. Thank you again for helping make our celebration so special! We'll definitely be back.

The views are amazing! You really get a nice view of LA and you can even spot the Hollywood sign. Getting up to the restaurant can be a tight drive. It's valet parking only $20 The ambience is great and they have outdoor seating or also indoor seating with a cute pond inside. Service was a bit on the slower end. And our server didn't look too nice I got the grilled octopus but portion was very small and a bit salty. Didn't really think it was worth the price. Food was okay overall, nothing special to me. I came for a birthday and I think it's nice to come for a celebration esp for pictures. But that would be the only reason I'd come.

In the rover with the roof gone, we pulled up like Jimmy Neutron with champagne bottles as a carry-on, gotta move on like oh darn. The sun was coming down when we arrived, but don't worry we got ice bright enough to lit up the whole room. We got seated outside with a marvelous view of LA, the city of angels embellish by bright lights and colors that won't fade in the night. It was the weekend so you know the party doesn't stop especially with Shohei Otani around now. Up in the hills high above and you feel opulence from the vibe, design, and ministration displayed by this restaurant. Its part of the experience. Our waiter was super friendly and patient with all of us. I forgot her name, but she had a nice pristine smile that made me wanna buy more drinks. It was contagious I tell you that, lol. We ordered the large Sushi Boat ($415) that can feed all six of us, Spicy Edamame ($14), and hella cocktails ($17 each) such as the Hibiscus Highball, Gin and Tonic, Yellow Dragon, Ryujin, and the Silk Whisper. There were various kinds of different sushi like salmon, bluefin tuna, yellow tail, and etc arranged exquisitely on a wooden boat for a dramatic presentation. None of the fish was fishy nor smelly. My favorite is definitely the bluefin tuna. The night was filled with laughs, good talks, and memories that will last a lifetime. Don't worry about being buzzed though, we were good, alright lol. If you want to take your mom here, do it! Take your woman here too? That's fine as well. Even having a guys night here is awesome! Just do it like Nike. You won't regret it. I read the ratings here on yelp beforehand, and honestly I had a blast despite what others have written. I forgot how much the bill was, but it doesn't matter, people. As long as they or she is not hangry, I'm good! Its okay to be selfish for once and treat yourself to some fine dining If I do say so myself. And like they always say, "You don't need a silver fork to eat good food!"

5.8.26 By far one of the prettiest--and largest--restaurants I've ever visited. It overlooks the city, offering beautiful vantage points for photos, from the scenic views to the restaurant's exterior and gardens. Plenty of guests were taking selfies, and it's easy to see why. My husband and I walked from our hotel, and the uphill climb was definitely a bit of a workout. The restaurant is tucked behind the Magic Castle, and because of its elevation, it's noticeably windier. We opted to sit on the patio, and even with multiple heat lamps turned up high, I was still cold. I wore a light cotton dress with a jean jacket and definitely wasn't prepared for the chilly, windy conditions. As for the food, I ordered the braised short ribs with a side of white rice, while my husband had the chicken katsu and California rolls. He enjoyed the rolls but found the katsu to be just average. I felt similarly about the short ribs--they were decent, but not particularly memorable. For dessert, I had the salted honey tiramisu, which I enjoyed more than my entrée. The service, however, was excellent. Our server was attentive, personable, and checked in regularly without being intrusive. We ended up chatting for a bit and learned he used to live in the DC area, not far from where we are in Maryland. Overall, the ambiance and views were truly the highlight--definitely one of the most memorable parts of our LA visit.

Yamashiro was a drive to get to but worth the views and vibes once inside and with good food and company. The service has to be top notch here and the menu is definitely exciting. Sushi was fresh and tasted nice. Oysters were delicious and the cocktails were strong and not too sweet. I loved being able to go outside on the terrace, walk down the stairs or even go to the inside garden and just look around. Such a beautiful restaurant. Will definitely go back during the evening to enjoy the city scape.

TL;DR: Beautiful views and atmosphere, but extremely disappointing service and food quality that did not match the price. Staff communication was confusing and at times confrontational, dishes felt overpriced and underwhelming, and what was supposed to be a birthday brunch ended up becoming frustrating. The only highlights were the scenery and the photographer. ---------- I decided to come here for my birthday brunch yesterday with a group of 10 people. I had been wanting to try this place because of the atmosphere and views. I had seen some of the lower reviews online beforehand but still thought it would be worth trying. Unfortunately, I was gravely mistaken. The main theme throughout the experience was the disappointing quality of service. They charged $20 for valet, which I thought was completely fine. We were seated promptly since there were plenty of open tables during brunch. However, the table itself felt extremely cramped to the point where my group was practically shoulder to shoulder. Our server was friendly and nice overall, but it was difficult to flag him down whenever we wanted to place orders or get refills on water. It seemed like there were very few servers working, which likely contributed to the decline in service quality. The food came out as each item was finished, so people in our group received their meals at different times, which honestly was not an issue. However, things started getting frustrating when I asked one of the food runners, Gio (a man with reddish-brown hair), who had come by to drop off some of our food, if he could bring additional water for the table. He responded by saying, "Oh, that's your server's job." I just sat there a little confused by that interaction. Unfortunately, it did not stop there. The same food runner, Gio, later brought out our $37 Yamashiro Roll and explained the situation in a way that made us believe there had been a mistake and that we had received an extra roll for free because of it. After everyone else had received their food, we realized that my mom still had not received the Yamashiro Roll she had actually ordered. We flagged down another food runner and our server, who went back to the kitchen and apologized for the delay in service and for the missing roll. Once the missing Yamashiro Roll finally arrived, Gio came back to our table in a confrontational manner and said, "I will be letting your server know we will be charging you the extra $37." My entire group was confused because the earlier interaction had made it seem like the additional roll was due to a mistake on the restaurant's end and was being given to us. At that point, I was completely over the experience. More specifically, we ordered the following dishes: Yamashiro Roll ($37): Low-quality roll that was nowhere near worth the price. The fish did not taste fresh and the sushi rice was hard. Chirashi Bowl ($39): Also disappointing. The fish quality tasted low and the rice underneath felt undercooked. Sashimi Pizza ($32): Essentially sashimi placed on top of a cracker. Blue Crab Benedict ($26): Very small portion and did not even come with a side. Chicken Katsu Sando ($21): Better than the dishes I mentioned above, although that is not saying much. Matcha French Toast ($21): Probably the best thing we had at the restaurant, although parts of the toast were slightly burned. Since I was celebrating my birthday, they brought out a sparkling candle with cheesecake and fruit, which tasted fine. Unfortunately, I already had such a sour taste in my mouth from the overall experience that I could barely smile during it. We also were not the only table experiencing issues. A nearby group actually moved tables because they felt cramped and later called over the manager to discuss the quality of both the food and service. They specifically mentioned issues with the rice and how the fish did not taste fresh. Additionally, another table across from us had a problem when they tried explaining that they had not ordered a particular dish. The interaction with staff also seemed combative and slightly annoyed. The one highlight from the experience was the view and the photographer, who made our group genuinely happy with her service. Although the photos were expensive, she was one of the only people there who felt like she had any real customer service skills. Overall, this ended up being one of the most overhyped and overpriced restaurants I have tried. The views were beautiful, but scenery alone cannot make up for poor service, confusing and confrontational staff interactions, and food quality that came nowhere close to matching the price point

We had a friend visiting from Florida whose friend had recommended we go to Yamashiro. They only offer valet parking for $20 + tip. We arrived a little earlier than our reservation so walked around their lovely grounds a bit, but were able to be seated early outdoors. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal, and the live DJ was mixing music with records! The structure for dining in is ornate and the restrooms located down a stairwell even had an attendant. While the menu was extensive, the food was honestly underwhelming for the prices charged. I ordered kabocha miso soup which was flavorful but small in portion, plus hamachi collar and tantanmen. The tantanmen was cold and refreshing, but was surprised that the wagyu was ground beef. The hamachi collar was the highlight of the dinner, tasty and quite large. I also ordered the shaved ice for dessert which was nice and light. As the sun set and the restaurant darkened the lights came on and the powerful heat lamps kept us warm. Overall, the atmosphere was picturesque with gorgeous views of the city and service was top notch, but don't come here for the food.

We had an amazing time. Alec was an incredible host and waiter and truly helped us decide on so many great dishes here! We loved it all. Great service, great views and great food. What more could you ask for?

This restaurant is absolutely breathtaking beautiful. The views you get of LA are spectacular! I would come back solely for the views. The food is good we enjoyed the tea and some drinks and some basic sushi rolls all were good. They did a desert for my friend's birthday which was a matcha cake very tasty as well. I would definitely make a reservation we made one for 7:30 and it's the perfect time we were able to catch the sunset while we waited for our table and then enjoy the night views. The Service was good as well everyone was friendly and attentive.

Came here for a special occasion and to finally try the food, and overall it was a great experience though not without a few trade-offs. First thing to know: parking is valet only, so be prepared for that. Timing also matters a lot here this place is best enjoyed in the afternoon or evening for the full experience. I made a reservation about a month in advance, but we still didn't get seated inside. The host offered outdoor seating instead, which was still nice, but something to keep in mind if you're expecting a specific table. The food was good, but for the price point, it didn't fully exceed expectations. It's solid, but we were hoping for something a bit more standout given how upscale it is. The ambience can get pretty loud since the place is usually packed, but it still has that unique, elevated vibe. Service was fairly quick overall, though there were moments where we had to check in about how long the food would take. At the end of the day, it's more about the experience the views, the setting, and the overall atmosphere. Definitely worth trying at least once.

This restaurant atmosphere was amazing. The views you get of LA are spectacular! I would come back just for the views. The food is good we enjoyed the hot sake and some drinks and some sushi rolls all were good. The Service was good as well everyone was friendly and attentive.

I had such a beautiful experience at Yamashiro Hollywood. The location is absolutely stunning, choosing between sitting along the outdoor railing with sweeping views or inside in the serene garden setting. Both options felt special. We came on a Saturday night with a reservation, and although it was busy, the space is so large that it never felt crowded or overwhelming. The views overlooking Los Angeles truly make the entire experience feel elevated. As for the food: * Crispy Rice: 4.5/5 * Yamashiro Roll: 5/5 * Calamari: 4.5/5 * Garlic Steak Noodles: 2/5 * Miso Strawberry Shortcake: 4/5 Overall, the food was delicious, with just one miss, but the ambiance is honestly unmatched. I'll definitely be coming back ....it's the kind of place that feels like an experience, not just dinner.

    Rebecca L.

Dining at Yamashiro is an experience as much as it is a meal. Perched in the hills of Hollywood, the views alone are worth the visit; especially around sunset when the city starts to glow. The ambiance is unmatched, with its historic Japanese-inspired architecture, lush gardens, and a romantic, almost cinematic feel throughout the space. It's the kind of place that feels special the moment you walk in. The menu offers a mix of Asian-inspired dishes and sushi, all beautifully presented and full of flavor. Everything feels elevated without being overly fussy, and the cocktails pair perfectly with the setting. Service is attentive and welcoming, adding to the overall experience without ever feeling overbearing. Whether you're celebrating something or just want a memorable night out, Yamashiro delivers on both atmosphere and experience.

My son didn't make a reservation because it was a Wednesday night and he didn't think it would be crowded. But with 5 adults and a baby carriage, we had to wait for the right table because the somewhat small restaurant was full. We soon got a good spot and ordered the shrimp ceviche and the pan fried dumplings for appetizers. The ceviche was served on a bed of crispy noodles and it was refreshing and satisfying. The dumplings were crispy, not greasy, and flavorful. For dinner, we got 2 orders of japchae and 3 orders of bibimbap. With 2 Korean-born children and having visited the country, those are among our family's favorite dishes. And they did not disappoint. The japchae noodles were just right. They were not too firm and not too soft and well-seasoned. With a mixture of veggies, meat, mushrooms, eggs, and that delectable sauce, the bibimbap tickled and satiated the tastebuds. I told the server there was a birthday at the table and she brought out an excellent creme brulee with a candle in it. My husband and I didn't pay the bill. But the prices were reasonable with most of the entrees costing less than $20 each. We have four more days in town and may very well make another visit to indulge in that scrumptious food.

Bing buns: 9/10. The dip trip it came with was fantastic and went with the buns so well. I was super confused what to expect as I'd seen some photos with actual bing and others with buns. We received actual buns that look like dinner rolls, but made with what is probably bing dough. It's really good and probably the highlight here. Potatoes: 7/10. Good, especially the crispy parts, but definitely a little oily. Corn pancakes: 8/10. Good pancake. The cornflakes work well on the pancakes to add a crunch it comes in a 3 stack. Would've been better if the cornflakes were put in between layers as well, especially given the price. Steak and eggs crispy rice: 7/10. The crispy rice was too oily. I couldn't taste and enjoy the rice until I dabbed the bulk of the oil off. Only then was it good. Roasted half chicken: 6/10. Nothing special, honestly. While the food is good, it's so expensive and it doesn't help that parking is paid, too. It's not a paved lot, so it feels kind of bad to pay for it. Came here early on a Sunday and the place filled up quickly as people came in for their reservations. There's a mandatory 3% charge to pay for back of house staff, regardless of if you're doing takeout or dining in.

The roti was highly recommended, and although I've enjoyed roti before, nothing has come close to this version. It was incredibly delicious--light, buttery, and perfectly flaky, with delicate layers that practically melted in my mouth. The accompanying dipping sauce complemented it beautifully. I'm a big fan of drunken noodles, but the version served here was truly exceptional--the best I've ever had. The flavors were rich, vibrant, and perfectly balanced. Our server was attentive, patient, and genuinely kind, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. To top it all off, the prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food and service. I would happily return and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an outstanding meal.

Rustic Spoon - Toluca Lake…read more You're quaint and close to great. Limited parking in back, but plenty on the street this small sibling eatery to Rustic Spoon - Valley Village has a lot of those familiar beats with both inside and patio seating. I haven't been to this location in many years, but the service and eats definitely had me nostalgic. Stopping in for dinner before an event night, my friend Shaun and I enjoyed the Pad Thai (him) and their Warm Noodle (myself) w/ Tofu. The portions are smaller than the Rustic Spoon in Valley Village, but the flavors and quality are abundant. From curry to desser, noodles to rice dishes, appetizers, salads, soups, chef's specials and even a kid's menu. No wine, beer or alcoholic beverages available here, however excellent mocktails (Rose Mojito, Bloody Lychee), teas, and various classic beverages. We experienced a minor mix up with my order initially, I was brought a noodle dish with steak, but I think it was meant for another table since I don't eat meat and can't remember the last time I used steak in a sentence. It was an easy fix and we had zero other issues, aside for me leaving my bag at the table - they were super kind enough to flag us down on the sidewalk. Very clean and intimate inside with nice lighting from the street and their own special touch at night. Restrooms for customers Wi-Fi available upon request. Patio is pet friendly. Solid for groups, but absolutely plan ahead (they do take reservations). Open daily from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM and 4:30 PM - 9:00 PM on weekdays as well as from 3 PM until 9 PM Saturdays and Sundays.
