This bakery is our new favorite spot in the Bronx. My husband placed an order for our daughter's birthday cake, the theme was Elena of Avalor and we picked Guava and Dulce de Leche as the filling. Gladys and her team did not disappoint. She reimagined the idea we had and made a beautiful delicious cake! The cake was light, moist, not too sweet the flavors were perfect and complimentary to each other. Our guests were also so impressed asking for seconds, doggie bags and for Gladys' business info. I bought a cake today for my daughter's dance recital after a coworker recommended it, even though I remembered that they weren't that great when they first opened. Again I really couldn't understand what the allure was. I love cake, but this is so generic tasting. Not to mention $$$. I would rather continue with De Colores, always moist, delicious, and cheaper by about $10. The workers were nice, but too many cutesy names as someone else mentioned. The cakes on display in the window looked so beautiful and amazing. I just had to give them a try to see if the taste matched the beauty. I ordered a strawberry shortcake and a flan. The strawberry filling in the cake tasted too sweet with almost a pineapple flavor. The flan was not as soft as I expected and was also very sweet. I love this bakery ,bought a special cake for a someone's birthday and it was a instant hit ,the cake was awesome out of this world ,the combination of flavors outstanding . I have been back three more time after that and had positive feedback on all of their products. One thing that is worth mentioning, i was craving a dessert one night, and happen to be in the area , it was past 10 and the store was closed. I made an attempt to walk to the door , but the door was locked. at That point I noticed someone inside and knocked on the door, the young lady that was inside was polite enough to open the door and let me in without and the questions to satisfy my craving. Decided to use this place to get a cake for my Mom's 50th Birthday celebration. Made the decision on a two tier cake with Passion Fruit Filling that serves up to 50 people for about $375. The day of the party I get a call around 1pm telling me that the cake is not ready yet which was fine. I was told over the phone that they needed about half an hr more so I gave them an extra 3 hrs and decided to pick up the cake by 4 pm instead. By the time I had arrived at Sugarboy the cake still wasn't ready for another 30-45 min. When asked "Why did it take so long?" the manager GLADYS' reply was "We had a problem with another customers cake..." which really didn't give me an answer as to why my cake wasn't ready. If you're in the business of making cakes then be honest with your customers. If they had been honest then I would have understood but the simple fact that they couldn't tell me the truth really annoyed me. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY... Last but not least they didn't put the cake topper on the cake that read "Fabulous and 50". Never using these people again and this was the second cake we purchased as returning customers... Thank goodness for a quality bakery is Riverdale, you don't have to buy your cakes at a supermarket! Everything I've tried has been very good and very fresh. A great variety of both Latin and classic American cakes and pastries. Something for everyone. My few critiques are that things tend to be a bit too sweet (at least for my palate) and the prices on some but not all items are a bit high. But the have to pay Riverdale rents, and the store is beautiful. The ladies who work there are very pleasant and hard-working. I recommend it. read more

Cupcakes were ok. Walked in to get two engagement cakes and they helped me with the design and got them together very fast. Caramel and strawberry shortcake-everyone loved them. I also got a red velvet birthday cake, everyone thought it tasted great but the design was disappointing. I'll describe just so no one tries this design again. I wanted a black cake with a neon "splatter" design- they said they could do it. However the "splatter" was not showing up on the icing that was airbrushed black. The girl worked with me on the price and tried to jazz it up with some candy dots, but the next day when we opened the cake it had turned grey! (the black airbrush had faded) and the color from the candy dots bled onto the cake. It looked horrible and was embarrassing. I would def. come here again, great tasting cakes, fast helpful workers, just don't do that design! read more

This place is very good!! I heard about it from a parent who had brought an amazing dinosaur cake to chuck e cheese. I went to this bakery to buy a cake for a get-together. There were about 4 other customers ahead of me. With one cashier and two in the back, service was extremely slow. At some unexpected point, the worker in the back yells to the cashier, "don't let them put pressure on you, let them wait!". I say unexpected because none of the customers said anything for this outburst to occur. I was turned off by her comment but had waited long enough so I continued to wait. The cakes are nicely decorated but extremely expensive. I bought a small tres leches cake that had fruit on top for 60 dollars. The taste was disappointing, my husband felt that it was bland and I felt it had a weird slight mint taste? Not sure how to describe it but I've had better tres leches elsewhere. My friends must not have liked it either because they packed the leftover slices and gave them to us to take home. Needless to say, I am not returning to this bakery. read more

Buyer Beware!!!!! Yes they are nice and friendly when you come in. The individual cakes are good, however some do taste old and like a fridge. I ordered a cake for my mom and it was exactly what I wanted. Cake looked and tasted fresh and delicious. I ordered another cake, for my birthday a much more expensive cake and I was completely disappointed. The cake decorations looked like my 12 year old sister could have made them. The cake was so DRY it literally Crumbled when I cut into it. The cake tastes Old! I was so embarrassed! No one wanted to eat my cake. They just looked at it with disgust on their faces. $300 down the toilet! I should have bought a smaller cheaper cake and it would have probably been fresh! I will NEVER trust them making a cake for ANY special occasion. Sugar Boy, you need to step up with your quality control! You are a neighborhood bakery and you can't afford to lose valuable customers. All in all, go buy your little cookies their if you wish. My guests were very pleased with the tres leches I ordered for my gender reveal. I did not have the cake reveal the gender therefore I cannot attest to how effective they would be if that would be your preference. According to their pictures, they do fantastic decoration. However, I was not blown away with my cake. It was nice but my expectations were not initially met. I requested a specific design and when my husband showed up to pick up the cake it was different from what we had discussed. Nonetheless, the baker/decorator was diligent to fix the issues we had with the cake before finalizing the order. Again, due to the updates the cake was not as flawless as I expected. I went here for the first time to order a cake for my son's 4th bday , the good thing about this place is that they can make any design that you want, they also provide you with a big book with a lots of options in case you don't have an idea of what design to get. The cake that i order was great in terms of design however not so much about the taste, i order a dulce de leche filling ($55) a pound and i have to say that i was quite disappointed, you don't expect a cake that look sooo gorgeous to taste not so great and for the price of course you expect that the cake taste as good as it looks.
