This place is great...great service, great food and great quality! I'm a bit shocked because I gave up on finding delicious Thai food, but I was wrong when I tried this place. I have only had take out, so I can't speak to the sit down service, but take out was on point. Apple Salad was so fresh, light and a perfect combination to tart and sweet! We also had a large Tom yum soup which was also delicious...and very big! The pad Thai was surprisingly good but the really good noodles were the drunken noodles...those were good and what we went back for. Oh, the shrimp chips are good and taste really fresh...random, but some Thai restaurants provide stale tasting chips. read more

First time getting carry out here and I really enjoyed my food! They were also very friendly and had my food ready at the time specified on the online ordering. I got the Veggie Tom Yum Soup: which had great veggies in it, good spice, it was just a little sweeter than I wanted. I also got the Pad Ped Pla Duk - medium plus. I misread the menu and was surprised it was a stir fry when I received it.. it was delicious! The spice was great, I like things a bit hotter and there was a nice kick. The fish was cooked nicely, the eggplant tasted really good (I think there was a breading on it but it didn't stay crispy through my drive home), the bell peppers and other components made the dish amazing. Props to Eric S. for introducing me to Sukhothai! This place is no joke. The prices are standard, the quality is amazing. Crab Ragoons, and Shrimp: I sampled some standard fair crab rangoons and jumbo shrimp stuffed with minced chicken and wrapped in egg roll wrapper. The peanut dipping sauce shrimp was not mouth puckering sweet as I've had elsewhere. Also, it was a bit thicker and coated the shrimp nicely vs a very loose peanut sauce. Hot & Sour, and Tom Yum: Eric let me sample his hot and sour. Really deep development of the broth here. I chose the Tom Yum fro my included soup. The lemongrass really came through, with a touch of heat from what appeared to be hot oil floating atop. The minced chicken in the bottom was a bit chewy. Curry Pad Thai: Holy mega whaaat batman. I've had coconut milk curry, I've had pad thai. I've never had them together. I ordered medium plus, and the coconut milk helped temper the heat. It was sweet, it was savory, it was spicy, and it was delicious. The bean sprouts where baby size, and exposed just momentarily to heat which kept them from being super crunchy and become more part of the dish than a top it. Once a month on Sundays, Sukho Thai puts on a buffet. This is the best $13.95 I've ever spent. Fancy sushi rolls, tom yum soup, and a plethora of thai dishes. My favorite was the pineapple and shrimp curry. There was even a huge table of desserts. My water was always full and my plates were cleared in record time. Mixed feelings on this place based on overall experience of my party. We were a four top. We were seated promptly, interior was okay, bar area very dated, the dining area standard tables and booths. Booths were not very comfortable. We ordered four entrees: Basil Fried Rice, Pad Prik, Bangkok Chicken, and Pad See Yew. We ordered spring rolls and hot and sour soup to go with the entrees. Most thai places in the area offer a cup of soup with an entree. They did not offer that though so we were a little disappointed with that. The spring rolls were good, the soup was not as good as the soups that have been included with meals at other locations. The pad see yew was delicious, the noodles were fresh and there was enough sauce with the dish. The Basil Fried Rice was passable, it was good but we have better elsewhere. That is where the good review ends. The Pad Prik was not good, the water chestnuts were easily canned and the chicken seemed pre-cooked. The fourth entree was not delivered, leaving one person without a meal. We asked where it was and they had to go check on it. Obviously they forgot about it as we had to wait for it to be cooked. When we got it it was chicken in what seemed like a real watery ketchup. It was not good. To top it off there was a white hair on one of the pieces of chicken. This meal was not eaten. Long story short we tried this based on some good review on yelp instead of going to our regular place. Next time we go for thai food we will go back to our normal place. I love this place. Ate here for lunch on my day off while out shopping at Red Wagon for delicious beer (This is located right next to Sukhothai). This was my second time dinning in & it failed to disappoint. I started with a long island iced tea & a Golden Pillow roll (eel & cucumber topped with avocado). The drink was $7 and plenty big & strong enough for one to get their day time buzz going. I didn't finish only because I did have to drive...lol For lunch, I ordered the veggie curry with beef, mild. It was so yummy and the heat was spot on. An up front burn that dissipated into a creamy curry umami delight. I enjoyed the left overs for dinner and wished I had more. Now before you write this place off as being over-priced, my girlfriend and I sort of ordered a lot of food, including a $15 sushi roll (pictured), the $15 appetizer sampler, split an order of the Bangkok Chicken, and I got their Tom Kha, which I pretty much make myself get when I go to a Thai restaurant because it's usually so damn tasty. Yeah, we were feeling blimpy. Coming in at about dinner time on a Monday night, there were only one or two other occupied tables in the restaurant, but somebody was calling in take out. Not a lot going on in the dining room, but Yelp seldom lets me down. Don't do it now... *shakes fist* Alright, the positives... the appetizer sampler was great as it had.. ehm.. a sampling of a lot of their appetizers: curry puffs, crab rangoons, spring rolls, and shrimp rolls -- each with their own different dipping sauce. I liked them all, especially the crab rangoons. The Sexy Roll was a nice choice for sushi: maybe it was my imagination, but it looked like the pieces were bigger than some other places I've had. Fresh, well-rolled, and good flavor. I appreciate that most of the sauce on the sushi is actually on the plate more so than on top of the sushi at Sukhothai. The service was great compared to a lot of places -- maybe borderline overly attentive to some people. The cons about Sukhothai make me wish I could give it a 3.5, but whatevs. Straight away, don't get the Bangkok Chicken. The menu lists it as a supposed "specialty", but it was mediocre at best. The sauce was good (even if maybe a little bit *overly* sweet and tangy), but the chicken wasn't crispy at all, and some pieces had a bizarre rubbery/chewy texture. Not inedible, but pretty close... that's the biggest problem I had with Sukhothai. Second, I ordered Tom Kha with shrimp but got it with chicken. Not a huge problem though, because I just told them to bill me for chicken instead of taking the soup back. Tom Kha is hard to make poorly, and while this wasn't poor, it's about how I picture it tasting if I were to try making it at home. It wasn't exactly bland, but it wasn't as ... Tom Kha-y as I was hoping it would be. Okay, I think I'm done typing. Sukhothai is another better-than-decent Thai restaurant in the area. The interior has a nice look to it, the servers are attentive, and a majority of the food was well done (no pun intended in regards to the chicken...) as well. read more

Hands down the best Thai in the area! - Amazing Appetizers - Perfect Pad See Ew - Superb Spicy Pad Thai Curry I stumbled upon this place a couple of years ago with my wife, and it is her favorite go to restaurant of any genre. It doesn't matter what I order here, they always get it right. I've recently been introduced to getting the "spice rack" with my entrees to add the right spice and flavor at every experience. Let's start with the appetizers I've had. The crab Rangoon is standard flower shaped fair, and won't disappoint. The Curry Puffs are like little pillows of curry awesomeness with a cucumber onion dip that is fresh and sweet. The Spring Rolls are always perfectly crispy, and very fresh tasting. My wife and I regularly order the Pad See Ew (Chicken - Mild Plus). Lately, I've been adding a small amount of each spice from the spice rack for both that smokey and peppery spice. The brown sauce is consistent, the broccoli is still a little crispy, and the chicken is well cooked and mixed in perfectly. If you're a fan of the See Ew, you will come back time and time again for this superb example. My go to when I want something a little different is the Spicy Pad Thai Curry. This little dish of heaven is nothing like I've experienced at any other Thai restaurant. Feel free to order this dish one step spicier than you're used to, as the coconut milk added to it will neutralize some of the spice level. It's got spouts added at just the right time, and they add a great crunch to contrast with the rice noodles. The fortune cookie rolls given at the end of your meal will have you craving more and more. Fantastic roasted coconut flavor. All in all, if you want the best Thai in the area, look no further than SukhoThai. Every person I've introduced to this place can't get enough. read more

I've been ordering Sukhothai delivery, for parties of 10-20, for greater than five years. They're the best. I just test them the number of people, date, time, and location and I don't have to worry about a thing. They keep my card on file. They are always on time. The clean the tables before setting up, label their food, never forget serving utensils, and bring sides of sauces, peanuts, etc. The price is reasonable. The owner is a super-nice guy. I came here with some co-workers yesterday on the recommendation of one of them. I was craving Thai food like a crazed ravenous liger. We arrived to a very pleasant, elegant atmosphere, a notch above the average Thai place. Upon ordering beverages, we were given bowls of wonton and a sweet-and-sour sauce in which to dip them - quite yummy. I ordered the Pad See Ew which, like all the other lunch menu entrees I believe, comes with a soup, all for $7.25. Not bad! I had the Gaeng Judd Woon-Sen, or Clear Noodle Soup, which was quite good, and reports from co-workers were quite positive on theirs as well. Our food arrived shortly thereafter. I have to say - I've had better Pad See Ew; this dish seemed a tiny bit dry and low on sauce. However the sauce that had taken shelter in the broccoli was quite delicious - I just wished there had been more of it. Everything in the dish was well-prepared. Certainly not bad, especially for the price. Everyone else gobbled up theirs very quickly, and reported good things as well. After we all had finished, the waitress came with the bill and some "Thai Fortune Rolls" that I must say were better than most fortune cookies. Overall, good choice for lunch. I would recommend this place, partly due to the good service, atmosphere, and low price for how much yummy Thai-ness you get. 3.5 stars. The man who seated us was so sweet and friendly so that alone accounts for one star. The decor is charming, much cuter and cozier than most Thai places I've been to. I came with a small group and we were pretty pleased with our food. It was standard, slightly above average Thai fare. My veggie curry was yummy and I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of veggies. The presentation of the rice (served separately from the curry) is beautiful. I wanted to try their squid but they ran out unfortunately so I got tofu. Pretty good but squid would've been a more interesting choice. Beware- anything above Mild+ level of spicy is EXTREMELY spicy! My Mild+ had a great kick, but my friend's medium level dish was so spicy that even 2 glasses of water couldn't get her tongue back to normal. I know for some people this is a good thing :) Although nothing particularly stood out to me, the food was fresh and I would give this place another visit. read more

I did it. I think I found the best Thai place north of 13 mile. I love Thai food, it's my immediate go-to when I don't know what I want to eat. The flavors hit me in all the right spots in all the right ways. And I don't think it's been done better than at Sukhothai. The place itself is surprisingly nice with a patio and elements that make you feel like it's more than just good food they're serving but an experience. I'm slightly biased about service because a friend of mine works here and she's pretty great. We ordered three dishes - pad thai, veggie thai curry and another noodle dish and we decided to be bold and get them at the highest level of spice. I do not recommend the highest level of spice. I am Indian and specifically the kind that was brought up on spice and it was intense for me. I grappled with taking a bite, letting the flavor hit me, then feeling a fire in my mouth and trying to chug as much cold water as possible and then HAVE to go in for another bite because of how delicious it was. We've been here a couple of times and the food has been excellent each time. The mixed drinks leave something to be desired, though. Spider Roll - holy cow, I love this appetizer. The soft shell crab is so tender and sweet and the juxtaposition between the warm tempura and the cold roll is enticing. My husband ordered a pork curry which was nice and I ordered a sashimi platter which had a rich and buttery white tuna. Honestly, it was enough for two or three people. If you like Thai food, go. Yet another wonderful visit to Sukhothai. They are offering free appetizers to patrons who sit on the patio, and since it was a perfect night we decided to take them up on the offer. The patio is gorgeous. Beautiful flowers everywhere, color-coordinated umbrellas and seat cushions; it is really a great space. Upon being sat, we were promptly greeted by our server, who was polite and attentive. I asked for spring rolls as our free appetizer, and we each got two spring rolls. They were garnished with chopped peanuts, which was a tasty touch. Usually when I get spring rolls at a restaurant, they taste like the kind you get in the frozen food section of the grocery store, but not these. They were flavorful, with a slight peppery taste. Tasty! I ordered drunken noodles with vegetables and my boyfriend ordered Bangkok chicken. We split an ebi ten maki roll. The sushi roll looked impressive, and tasted delicious. The roll was large and I loved the sauce that topped it. The drunken noodles were very good, and the mild+ spice was accurate. I liked that there were a lot of vegetables, and the basil in the dish made it stand out. The Bangkok chicken was made with a thick sweet and sour sauce, and was a good meal. No spicy flavor in the mild sweet and sour sauce. The portions of both our entrees were large, and appropriately priced for the quality of the food. Our service was very nice, even though we left shortly before closing time. My water was refilled several times, and our food came out fast. Overall, a great night out! Whether it's dining in or grabbing a quick carry-out, Sukhothai is hands down THE best spot for Thai food in Metro Detroit. My wife and I spent a few weeks in Thailand last year, and we both feel that Sukhothai is as authentic as you can get. Portion sizes are huge, flavors are always on point, spice levels tend to be on the spicier side so we usually stick with medium :) and all ingredients are always super fresh. We've yet to come across an unsatisfactory dish. Drunken Noodles, Khao Soi, Gaeng Kheaw Waan, and Pad Ba-Mee are just a few of our go to's that I'd highly recommend. I arrived and let them know I had arrived and unless I gave them my credit card information over the phone or paid cash I would not get my order.
