Well, on the positive side, I had a really nice time in good company. The restaurant was clean,…read morerather spacious, and I certainly appreciated the white tablecloths. We sat at a round table that perfectly fit our group of seven. It was a very comfortable setting, so we could talk freely. We came for "Buffet Night Wednesday," served from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m. Around 6:30 p.m., I felt like we were late to the party and should have been grateful there was still some food left. We knew a large group of 25 people would be coming for the buffet that day, but I didn't think it would be a problem. The buffet looked kind of sad to me. I managed to sample almost everything, even Goat Curry. Everyone said it was very good. I passed on the Samosas (not too appetizing looking). Also, I didn't want to commit to the whole piece of Tandoori Chicken, so I checked the Chicken 65 instead. It was nothing like I had tried before, but the bite size pieces were good, plus it wasn't really spicy. Everyone's favorite, Butter Chicken, was very tasty. I had only a small piece of chicken. When I went back for another one, it was gone, only the sauce remained. I think just one dish was refilled during our entire stay. I was hoping for fresh Samosas, but it didn't happen. The Tofu dish was one of my favorites. Luckily, there were just a few pieces hanging around, so there was no risk I could overeat at this particular buffet. For dessert, I had a little white pudding. It was a generic dish you'll find in every Asian buffet, nothing special. We learned that the ownership had changed, but it seemed like it was still a family business. The children were supposed to clean up the dirty dishes, but they didn't. We were surrounded with dirty plates, and none of the employees seemed to care. This was my first visit to Shalimar BBQ & Grill, and I can't compare my experience to previous quality. I can't complain about the taste and flavor, really, but the entire buffet was missing something. Maybe the food? :)

I really enjoyed the Goat Curry & the Aloo Gobi. I thought most of the other dishes could have used more heat. I took a samosa but not sure why. It was very dark & dried out. We found out while there that they're under new management. Going from Southern Indian to now Afghani. That might explain the difference in spices. Everyone was friendly but the service lacked a bit with no one cleaning up the dirty dishes or asking if we needed more naan or water. I'm on the fence with this review 3.5 to 4 so I'll go up to 4. 2025-64

Our server was super friendly and patient as we all went back and forth on what to order. We all started with samosas. They were packed with nicely seasoned potatoes and peas. Ever get them where there's more air than filling inside? I ordered the chicken jalfraize, a dish I never had before and was glad i did. It was loaded with chicken, peppers, onions, and a perfectly seasoned sauce and a touch of lemon. I'd definitely order this again. Overall, a very good meal. 2026-32

There were two dipping sauces. One was green and chunky(like a salsa) and the other looked like soy sauce. It had a nice kick to it. I ate both the samosa and the deep fried leaves. I liked the fried leaves very much, with the dark brown spicy sauce. Not easy to eat, but tasty. The hot items on the buffet were labeled, but I did not write down the names. One was, of course, rice! Most of the dishes had nice chunks of chicken in them. The Tikka Marsala was my favorite, lots of chicken with the peppers and seasoned sauce. There was also a dish with paneer cheese in it. Also nice, and the paneer does get nice and soft. Another dish was a chicken curry. There were several dishes that were vegetarian. Everything I ate had a nice flavor and some also had some heat/spiciness. I think the lunch buffet is offered 6 days/week. It's $19.95. It's a lot of food for lunch. It is not clear whether the buffet is also available at dinnertime.

This very authentic Pakistani restaurant serves menu items I've never seen elsewhere. At the top…read moreof the list it clearly states, "The default is level of spiciness is medium-hot but the kitchen can adjust to your preferred level". They mean it! The flavor profile is not "rounded down" for the average Buffalo palate. For me, this is a great thing! There are many vegetarian options, and some vegan ones as well: Lots of chickpea dishes, potato based dishes, vegetable pulao, paneer curries, and pooris, parathas, and naans. We had the vegetable samosas to start, stuffed with potatoes and peas, served with a sweet chili sauce. The kalak chai and Kashmiri chai were both excellent; the latter with a froth and topped with chopped pistachios. The garlic naan was hot from the oven, perfect amount of char on the back. For entrees my husband ordered the mutton pulao, which was tender from hours of simmering, and fragrant with the aroma of cinnamon. My BBQ fish arrived on an iron sizzling platter, with a chilli-based dry rub, caramelized onion slices, and what I thought were sweet green peppers. Nope! These were the hell-hot cousins, complete with seeds! Another patron, noticing me wiping my eyes, told me that sweet green peppers are not a part of Pakistani cuisine....so now I know, and respect them. BTW, the complementary raita served with the meal was the remedy: a tablespoon of this, and the heat disapated. I really loved the fish: It had sweet flesh and it was perfectly cooked, falling from the bone. I also loved the hot green pepper slices, once I got over the shock of it! In the 90 minutes we were there, we were the only people who were not Southeast Asian. The owner/chef/waiter was handily managing the flow, and checked on us often. He explained that soon the menu would be expanded to include curries. For additional atmosphere, the sound system was playing Dua Lipa hits, "Despacito," and 2010's cover songs in Punjabi or Urdu. Loved it. If you're in the area in the morning, the restaurant opens at 10 am and has a dozen breakfast items. Catering available.

The restaurant is clean and bright. A few pieces of artwork depicting Pakistani culture. Nice.
