Not sure if I went on an off night but my food was not it. I was excited to try the food here. I got the chicken shawarma spicy. I regret that it was so spicy I couldn't eat it and I'm indian.... So definitely ask for the sauce on the side. The chicken was not good tasted old or like its been out all day and no flavor. My pita was a soggy mess. Lentil soup was decent but nothing to rave about. Falafel was good and crispy again nothing wowed me. I think pita inn is better I would pass on this spot. I went here over the weekend with friends. I shared the chicken shawarma dinner and I enjoyed it. I have extremely sensitive tastebuds and can't handle spicy food at all. I tried everything on our plate & the chicken and rice were both too spicy for me. I tried the cucumber salad but I don't like cucumbers one bit so I just tried the one bite. The hummus and chips were quite good. Not the best I've ever had but all that food for $8 was a good deal. The best part of Sultan's is the BYOB & the workers! We brought in our own wine which made it a fun ol' time. We were the only people in here on a Saturday night at 9pm and the workers blasted music for us and made it our own little club. What can I say? This place was alright. Stopped by for a quick bite late one Saturday evening. Ordered the Vegetarian Combination ($6) and a Baked Zatter Bread ($2). Definitely can't complain about the prices. The Veggie combo came with your choice of Lentil or Curry Rice, choice of Tabuli or Jerusalem salad, Hummus, and two pieces of Falafel. Wanting to try both rices, I asked for a little of both and they happily obliged. The food itself was good but not amazing. Everything tasted like it was missing something, not quite sure what. So it was my first time visiting the Sultan's Market. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma plate. Here's how I'll break it down, each item with a rating from 1 to 10: Chicken shawarma: there was plenty of chicken but it was kinda dry. It would have been better had it been a little more moist and juicy. Plus, the basmati rice didn't have that rich Rice-A-Roni-esque flavor to it like it did when I had it elsewhere. 6/10. Jerusalem salad: was very bitter; didn't care for it. Maybe I'll have better luck in the future with the tahini salad. 4/10. Hummus was amazing. Fabulous restaurant. The menu has a great selection of foods. We ordered their combo plate with lentil rice, lentil soup, zaatar bread and falafels. We absolutely loved the food! It all tasted so fresh and the restaurant has the best outdoor seating atmosphere - minus all the bees which forced us to love indoors. The staff were really friendly and helpful with deciding what to get. Parking in the area is also pretty easy to find. Best spot for cheap and quality mediterranean food in Chicago! My husband and I both had a dinner plate and shared a bowl of lentil soup for $22 dollars with a drink. The portions are hefty and I couldn't finish what was on my plate. Aside from the price tag and portions, everything is fresh and excellent quality. The food is super fresh, flavorful AND cheap ! I wasn't sure what to order and I was handed a delicious falafel (I'm usually not a fan, but this one was fine !!) while deciding. You have plenty of choice between chicken shawarma, lamb, kefta etc...if you don't know what to pick, just go for the meat combo dinner plate. For $8, you'll get the meat, fresh hummus, pita bread, salad and rice. I love that you have the choice for your salad (you can choose between the Jerusalem Salad - cucumber, tomatoes. & Parsley mixed with tahini, olive oil & lemon juice or the tabuli) and for the rice (you can pick between the curry basmati rice or the lentil one .If you still don't know what to choose, just do half and half of everything. On top of this, i got a maracuja juice (yum) and a plate to go because i couldn't eat all of it this night. About a 2.5: I was excited to try this place out as this place is famous for their falafels. My friends and I came here for an early dinner. The falafels were okay, but I felt as if they were a little too soggy. The exterior seemed to be a little thin and not as crispy-ily fried. It also came with tomatoes and Jerusalem salad. I had been wanting to try this place for a while now...thanks to their outdoor decor and the advertisements we see all the time on the benches around wicker park blue line junction. The only cash policy did kind of threw me off a couple of times but I finally tried it for lunch. It's not as fancy inside as the outside suggests, a rather casual spot tbh. They have pre-made cafeteria-style buffet options to choose from or you could just order separately as well.. which I did. I think I got the falafel pita sandwich, baklava, and a pop. It all came to be about $8 which wasn't very bad. Sandwich was nice, baklava was alright. They did have some dipping condiments at the self serve water station - tahini maybe. That was tasty. On a side note I dislike change. I was given a sandwich wrapped in wax paper ready to eat. I found a nice booth and I took a few bites. As I sat there I noticed a self serve Tahini Sauce & Hot Sauce Bar. This is exactly what my sandwich needed. I loaded up a plastic cup with both sauces and when I poured it on my shawarma I was in heaven. These guys get it. I've been to other shawarma places that make you beg for sauce or hide them behind the counter. No begging necessary here because it is totally self serve. Once I loaded up my sandwich with "the sauce" I was in Shawarma Nirvana. These guys know how to make a killer sauce for their sandwich. This neighborhood is all about late night drinking and this places offers an amazing sandwich to fill your drunken belly. The sandwich hit the spot on my craving for some yummy food. It seems Brett D. and I are on a quest to hit every falafel stand between here and Memphis. I can't believe how much food we got for a low price! Well, enough for two meals because an order of "three falafels" turned into three falafel sandwiches! I loved that they already added the red spicy sauce to a pita that was high and strong and kept the tender falafel from spilling out. It was a taste delight! The chicken schwarma with rice had a nice undercurrent of warm spices to it, and was filling in its own right.
