The one-star deduction is because this place is really noisy, so much so that we could hardly hear the person next to or across from us talking, at a very skinny, uncomfortably crowded table, which, for me negates a lot of the reasons for a Sunday brunch. It's an occasion to feel relaxed, and to catch up with friends/family in a comfortable place where we can converse...over excellent food (skip to the next paragraph)! With its industrial atmosphere, very high ceilings, and no soft surfaces or finishes whatsoever to absorb or soften sound, it was deafening. If you don't enjoy a crowd, and especially if you don't have a reservation, I wouldn't even think about going there for Sunday brunch! On the other hand, the Summit Grill shines when it comes to the excellent food part! The Buttermilk Biscuits with Fritz's Sausage Gravy tasted a lot like my grandmother's, with tender biscuits and lots of good, old-fashioned flavor. In addition to that, you get a serving of perfectly cooked "scrambled cheesy eggs." My friend loved the Thick Cut Brioche French Toast with fresh berries, whipped cream, and sausage. And the folks who had the Jalapeño Cheese Grits In A Jar, which includes bacon, sausage and poached eggs, were very happy campers! All of these menu options included very generous portions for extremely reasonable prices. Top all that off with either a Bottomless Mimosa or Bloody Mary, and throw in a designated driver! Also, the (not bottomless) Peach Bellini was just delightful. As was our (beyond adorable) server, who skillfully managed our party of 12 (with separate tickets), along with his other tables, and did it all with charm and grace, despite the very crowded conditions. Although I saw a couple of items on the dessert tray that were almost irresistible (Candy Bar Cake and Cookies & Ice Cream Cake), I knew I was going to be waddling out of there as it was, so I had to pass. Came in today after work because I typically have amazing service. However, today was horrible. I sat at the bar as usual. The normal bartender (a black guy) wasn't present. I sat between to white individuals in which the bartender and service asked them several times if they were ok and if they needed anything. Not once did they address me until I addressed them. First address: I ordered my drink and Spin Dip. The waitress brings ticket before food comes out. Second address: Hey can I order the cheeseburger sliders. This was our second time eating at the Summit Grill in the past month (both on Friday night in their new space, replacing 75th Street Brewery). I refrained from writing a review the first time, mainly because I hesitate to hand out a 4/5 star review based on just one experience. A number of factors go into a review - and sometimes "rating-blindness" can occur simply by partaking in one too many glasses of wine or enjoying a really good piece of chocolate cake after you realize your New Year's resolution is completely unrealistic. So, with a clear mind and stomach, here's the skinny on Summit Grill. First, if you're planning on a quiet night out, this may not be your place, but it should be. The front end of the restaurant is a large bar area with the dining room behind it, separated by a giant wall of liquor and TVs. It's loud, filled with "happy noise", but has an exciting energy from patrons having a good time that sort of pulls you in like you just joined a party with your closest KC friends. It has an upscale, black leather trendy, vibe with low lighting that's still jeans and casual friendly. So, what about the food? Patience, I'm getting to that! We started with the calamari, which came lightly breaded and tender, with peppers, parmesan cheese and a spicy tomato sauce. Calamari so fresh and well prepared, you might think you're in California! Next, we moved on to salad and soup. My wife had the steak and vegetable soup, which she's still talking about, so I'm going to say she really liked it (she's not one to normally get overly excited about food). I had the wedge. It was good, with plenty of bacon and blue cheese, but it's an iceberg lettuce salad you can find at countless other places. For dinner, we had the chicken fried chicken and fish & chips. Both delivered, but the fish & chips could rival what you would find in one of London's finest pubs. This dish had me making "Mmmm" noises, with large, crispy, flaky, tender pieces of cod and a perfect tarter sauce fit for the pickiest of dippers. If you can pause long enough to stop eating the fish and try the fries, you'll find they are well seasoned and deserve a little love and attention of their own. You're probably hungry and still trying to decide if you want to eat at Summit Grill, so I'll wrap things up. During our other visit, we also enjoyed the french onion soup, prime rib sandwich and pot roast entree. I don't think you'll be disappointed with any of those either. My wife is nudging me to make sure I mention the mashed potatoes, as she says, "they are to die for!" So, there's that. Reflecting back on our visits, I now believe all of the "happy noise" is clearly about the food. We'll be adding Summit Grill as one of our neighborhood favorites. This was a very good happy hour (3-6 pm daily) spot. The large bar area was spacious and nice, with background music (not too loud), while the happy hour menu had a good variety of reasonably priced drinks and foods (including $3.50 tank 7 and $4.95 house wines). I found the service to be professional and attentive. Unfortunately, this is a popular spot, and the noise levels rose quickly due to the poor acoustics. There was parking behind the building. We came to Kansas City to celebrate Thanksgiving Day at the Country Club Plaza to be part of the flipping the switch to turn on the Plaza Christmas Lights. We made reservations at the Summit Grill Waldo. We are so happy we did. They sat us at our table at the time of our reservation. The restaurant staff was very helpful and courteous. The ambiance of the restaurant was top notch. The food was very delicious! We had the traditional Thanksgiving meal, Turkey with all the trimmings. Wish I had more pics of the food, but all I was able to snap was dessert Anyways, I love this place. I have yet to have anything that disappoints. And the prices are reasonable. On a college student's budget, I was extremely hesitant with eating at Summit bar and Grill. However, I must say that the food is definitely worth it. The interior of the restaurant has a very chic vibe with plush couches dispersed among the tables and fancy hanging lights. Their menu is quite extensive with typical American food such as burgers and steak and an amazing dessert menu. My friend told me that this restaurant has one of the best fries, and I was extremely skeptical. Once the food was served, my thoughts quickly changed. When it comes to salads at a restaurant, I'm always weary about ordering one if it contains typical ingredients. Their salad options here are extremely unique and all sound delicious. I opted for the Faroe island salmon salad and requested that the bacon and the corn salad that contains cilantro be placed on the side. The meal was served exactly how I requested, and the salad was huge! The salmon was perfectly cooked, and the chipotle chips complimented the greens very well. When others said this was the best salad they have ever had, I would have to agree! It definitely makes the Top 5 list! I finally got to try their fries and desserts that my friends rave about. The fries are definitely worth the hype as they are skinny with a crispy exterior. I couldn't stop eating my friend's fries! Their desserts are quite extensive and were enjoyed by my friends especially the candy bar cake. The only downside is the waitress did not refill our waters, and I only realized it after when my friend pointed out how parched he was. Went here on a Sunday solely for bottomless mimosas. My boyfriend and I showed up right as they opened because I know they get pretty busy on weekends. We were sat right away and served quickly after. The menu had so many tasty sound items that it was hard to choose. I got a classic with eggs, sausage, and toast and was pleasantly surprised when it showed up with cheesy grits... they were sooooo good! They had a little bit of spice to them. Honestly everything else was a bit sub par. That's where that lack of star comes in. Our waitress was the best. She was personable and I felt like I was talking to a friend. Another thing I thought was really clever was that they had the mimosas made up in giant carafes. It made it quicker for them to refill our glasses and create less dishes. Summit Grill is one of my favorite spots in Waldo. Their happy hour and lunch prices are the best!! I usually always get the street tacos. They are delicious and the price is good also $8.95/$5.95 on happy hour I believe. You get three with your order and it's all you need to feel full. They Also have great drinks. I can't think of the name of the drink I get, but I will be back there soon and will get it however, they have an awesome selection so you can't go wrong. The atmosphere is great. It's not quite romantic but it's not overly loud either. So it's a good place for a casual but nice first date and beyond(especially if you don't want to be too cozy). First time visit to this Gladstone eatery. Having made reservations we were able to be seated immediately. On a Friday night this place was rocking at full capacity. Face masks are still required and in dining room area tables seemed well socially distanced. Our server was new, this being his first night on the floor but he did a great job. I think they may have been quite a few new servers that night as food was attempted to be delivered twice to our table that wasn't ours! Happy hour is from 3-6 but we were told you can only order happy hour if you're seated at the bar. Our waiter had a hard time with our group when everything was super simple. I remember when this was the old Kennedy's. The one that smelled like stale beer and was lit like a dungeon. Then the fire happened, then new Kennedy's, then Remedy, and now there's the new kid in town: Summit Grill and Bar. The atmosphere is similar to Remedy although slightly more modern, and the overall feel is not dissimilar to The Jacobson in the Crossroads. I have to say after sampling a large portion of the menu a few weeks back, I'm genuinely excited to go back here. Our group tried: -Spinach Artichoke dip which was just okay -Street tacos (chipotle steak, queso fresco & cilantro) which were delicious -Fried calamari which was excellent Then they brought out the big guns, and this is what has me wanting to go back: -Chicken Fried Chicken. This would normally make me think of something in a backroads diner but it was SO good. The whole table made short work of it. -Black Angus Ribeye: This is under $30 and cut with a butter knife it was cooked so well. Very flavorful. -Poutine, which tastes as good as it is fattening.
